How would you rate Uprising Muffin Company?
These are the most incredible and indulging muffins I've ever had! I love their location and space. Their savory bacon, egg and cheddar muffin is my absolute favorite! It's an entire hardy breakfast in just one baked good. Their staff is very friendly and they offer a great selection of coffee drinks.
Very good muffin, dirty store with underwhelming atmosphere. Dirty cups around, dirty rag on a table, crumbs all over the floor. Cheap, hollow looking furniture (think fake wood and fake leather) that looks like it was all purchased on clearance from TJ maxx.
I've been wanting to try this place out. How many muffin shops do we get the chance to go to any way? I walked inside with two buddies and was pleasantly surprised to see lots of seating from couches to tables. I ordered their chocolate chip muffin and enjoyed it. It wasn't the very best muffin I've ever had, but it was good! I may need to come back here to work since they have lots of room inside! Also, the owner takes his business seriously and is willing to invest in making his business good. That deserves a fourth star!
We ordered a hot chocolate six muffins and chai latte. The latte was awful not sure if they used bog water! The hot chocolate tastes sour as well. They should stick to making muffins! Muffins were ok nothing special. $8 in drinks I'll never get back.
Great muffins but a little on the pricey side. Make sure to get there early when they are fresh.
I used to think this was a nice place to sit, have a cup of coffee while waiting for my friends until I started getting harassed by the staff. I wasn't until a few weeks ago I noticed (she must have been a new worker) a blonde female treat some of the customers rudely.
One day I was in using the bathroom, and she started banging on the door making me feel uncomfortable. I have friends that live and work around Howard, and a few of them used to go to Uprising, who have been offended during their visits.
One of my friends was refused access to the bathroom, because ( same blonde worker) said that there was a girl who used to use it without buying anything, and since she was from the neighborhood and came in the store frequently, was considered a "suspicious " person? WTF?
Then there was another time, where I saw a man in there on crutches getting sugar - and he got yelled at by the same woman.
People around the neighborhood have noticed the lack of respect at Uprising. Not only that, but the food is way over priced and the taste doesn't hold up to what they charge for it.
Compass Coffee is MUCH better, and is right down 7th street, and there's one around the corner off U street - where the coffee and food is awesome and the staff are always friendly. Don't waste your money or time at Uprising, especially if you're from the neighborhood
Excellent customer service. The food is amazing, and so is the coffee. We had a hazelnut and caramel latte and they hit the spot! Clean and inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Excellent pour-over. Music entirely too loud and the Wi-fi kept going in and out. But otherwise comfy and chill place to get some work done.
Great coffee, amazing muffins, delicious sandwiches, and awesome service.
Found this place while interning down the street and LOVE it! I'm there very time I'm back in DC. Bacon egg and cheese muffin and cream cheese streusel muffin are beyond good
While the cashier was very friendly, I asked for a "Biggie" sandwich at 6pm because I was hungry and wanted to eat dinner since there were no other restaurants or places to eat nearby. The guy working behind the bar said he couldn't make me one. He also was rude and acted like I was inconveniencing him. Isn't the customer entitled to what they want to purchase to eat? Maybe lots of other folks like coming here, but I won't be coming back.
Awful breakfast sandwiches - microwaved as hell so the bread is chewy and it's served too hot. Also all their food and coffee are overpriced. You way overpay for being next to the metro don't do it!! Then they forgot my order when they weren't even busy!! Muffins are good tho so they 2 stars.
Went to Uprising Muffin this morning for the 1st time. OMG, who knew you could put bacon, eggs and cheese in a muffin!! I was a little mad at myself because I bought only 1 and had to share it with 2 other people....imagine that!! Lol...next time I will know. Also bought blueberry, carrot, banana pudding and cream cheese Omg!! Definitely going back!!
Their coffee was excellent, and I appreciated all the options both on the board and at the condiment bar. I had a parfait and a chocolate espresso muffin, and both were great but that muffin was stellar! I wish I lived in DC so I could visit often!
Family owned. Really good sandwiches, muffins and coffee. There's free wifi so you can sit and get some work done. The atmosphere is lively. This is your neighborhood coffee shop.
This place is consistently good. Service is prompt and friendly. The bakery has a cool vibe with quotes and artwork on the wall reflecting its' sort of resistance theme. My favorites are the Pina Colada muffin, Apple Spice, and Almond Bliss.
My husband and I visited D.C. over spring break, and we stumbled upon Uprising Muffin Company our first morning there. Long story short, we visited every morning after to get what became our "regular"--the sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich (I can't remember if there was a specific name for it). It was fresh and delicious every time!
Today was my first time stepping into the shop. I ordered the chicken sausage, egg, and cheese on a croissant and the house coffee. Both were delicious, and I'll definitely be back.
Fantastic muffins and a nice variety. Nice open seating, friendly staff, and right at the top of the Howard/Shaw Green /Yellow Metro exit. Wish for longer hours.
Friendly environment, good savories and muffins. Enjoyed the comfortable and original vibe. Had a good time coming from Charlotte!
My very favorite coffee cafe, the options are great and the staff is very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. The music is great as well
Fantastic muffins and great people! The service is fast and friendly. Combined with the delicious eats, this place is amazing!
Delicious muffins. Perfect place to grab breakfast and go. Also they have a loyalty program-always a plus!
Good vibe and coffee. Nice creativity in muffin choices but pretty plain for taste and rubbery texture.
Loved the service and the muffins. The coffee was really good. Relaxing place to meet and chat
Muffins are really good. Coffee is really good. Staff is not too professional, but I didn't mind it so much. I wish they played better music, though.
Amazing service, good prices, very knowledgeable staff!
Best muffins in DC no contest. Really good coffee, drip and bar. Only downsides to this place is how quick they sell out of things, how often they rotate muffin flavors and the price. If you can get a maple pancake muffin you have to, there’s nothing like it out there. Staff is cool, no nonsense and the mood music is always good. Ask them to heat up the muffin if you’re dining in trust me.
This is one of my favorite locally owned spots. The muffins are delicious. They have a large variety of muffins available every morning. Some muffins flavors are available daily, others are "flavors of the month" and only around a short time. The staff is friendly and efficient. Plus, the drinks are good as well. The chai tea latte is my favorite. The atmosphere is upbeat and there is space available to work or meet up with someone.
Muffins were very tasty and hit the spot. The service was sub par, for a Sunday which one would expect to be a busy day for them the guy working the counter seemed to care very little. He was playing bad music and acted like he didn't want to be there. Wish they had been more friendly.
If you are in DC this a a stop you have to make. Great hot drinks and the best muffins. They even have sandwich options. Don't go to Starbucks go here if you're in area.
A really lovely place for baked goods and coffee. It has a good atmosphere suitable for work or a casual chat with friends. And it is conveniently located off of the yellow line.
I ordered a couple of muffins and hot tea from Uprising Muffin Company. The muffins were good but not anything spectacular.
These muffins are out of this world!!!!! They are insanely delicious and priced right!!! I’m here for a total of 5 days and I have been there every morning for the past 4 days. I’m sad to be leaving DC tomorrow but I will be at Uprising Muffin at 7am to get a dozen muffins to take home to my family so they too can taste the deliciousness in DC. So glad to find this gem the 1st day here.
During my morning commute, this is a welcomed stop. I love their cranberry orange muffins! Warm and friendly staff, and quick service.
Very convenient to metro station. Purchased coffee & cream cheese muffin. Service was prompt, staff very friendly, value was on par. Enjoyed reading the quotes, nice touch . I will visit again when on the area. Keep up the quality !
A couple of weekends ago, I was riding the Metro in to the National Mall for the kite festival. My 4 year old daughter could not wait to use the bathroom. Thankfully, when we got off at the Shaw-Howard U stop Uprising was there. We ran in, ladies room was occupied but we were told right away that she could use the employee's bathroom. Thanks for saving the day... without hassling us about buying anything. That's how customer service works!
I live in the National Harbor area. Out here waiting for my daughter to complete a hair appointment. Looking for coffee I noticed this shop sign Uprising "Muffin" Company. Place is warm atmospheric, clean, friendly staff, media friendly and very accessible to Metro. Up the escalator of Shaw-Howard University Station. Now there menu expresses breakfast bites, lunch menu of deli sandwiches, coffee of different varieties and then you see the muffins displayed on shelves behind the cashier. I order the Snickerdoodle Muffin. Scrumptious! Come visit. Won't be my last.
First time at this local favorite. The environment is upbeat. Vanilla steamer with almond milk was light, tasty, and mildly sweet. Staffers are friendly and professional. Very close to Teach for America and UNCF offices. Overall, the experience was wonderful. One thumb up.
Place we visit before going to Church...great muffins. Coffee and service. Highly recommended!
Really going to miss this place.
I miss the shaw location so much, but happy that Donnie now caters! Every time I have ordered catering from Uprising, they have been nothing but professional and wonderful. Their muffins are amazing, people are still talking about the yogurt, fruit & granola. If there is ever an issue (very rarely!!) Donnie always owns up to it. I have been working with Uprising and Donnie for years and cannot say enough good things about him and his muffin shop.
Great food! Great people! Clean and comfortable! Best muffins I've ever had! Loved it!👍👍👍
This bakery shop offering homemade muffins, cupcakes and many more goods which taste are superb.
NOW A CATERING COMPANY, COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL.
I now understand why their Shaw neighborhood storefront is closed. It's probably due to their poor customer service. Uprising Muffins now markets itself as a caterer, but use at your own risk.
I ordered muffins fruit and coffee for an in-house committee meeting. I had asked that the order be delivered between 7:30 - 7:45 am. I even email the evening before, and asked if they could be closer to 7:30 am, and received a response that it would be no problem.
At 7:55 am I finally received the order....muffins, fruit and cookies, but no coffee. Meanwhile since my meeting starts at 8:00 pm, my board members are standing in the lobby of the office...waiting for coffee. When I call Uprising Muffins number, and tell him that his service sucks and that being late and forgetting my coffee is unacceptable, when I ask him to deliver the coffee he tells me he will not bring me the coffee that was missing "because I told him his service sucks" !!!!
After I threaten to call American Express to dispute the $200 charge for the catering, he finally sends me an email with a new invoice where he discounts the order and removes the charge for the coffee, the delivery charge, and driver tip. Unfortunately, he then proceeds to make excuses for not being able to get the order right. He told me that he was going to give me a 50% discount on another order, to make up for it but because he thinks I have been so nasty to him, I can forget that. He also told me that the way I spoke to him speaks volumes about my character. MY CHARACTER, you got to be kidding.
It's a shame the owner of this business is such an arrogant fool, because the muffins, and cookies were delicious. Like I said, I understand why he closed a storefront, he has no sense of how to run a business. If you are caterer, you do not deliver an order late, forget the coffee and then proceed to mouth off to a customer when the whole thing was your fault.
This is one of the most unprofessional and rude caterers I have ever worked with and as a 30 year meetings professional I have worked with some of the best caterers in town....this is NOT one of them.
***SO I NOTICED THAT MR. SIMPSON CHIMED IN BELOW WITH A FALSE NARRATIVE OF WHAT HAPPENED.
Just for the record, it was more than that. HE is the one being removed from EZ cater, for unprofessional behavior not me. it's just an online service, anyone can use it. Yes, he was late and forgot coffee, but it was more than that. Below is the actual email he sent me questioning my character and showing his arrogance. He also was completely rude to me on the phone...that you don't see here. He only refunded my money after I threatened to dispute the charge through American Express.
"We’re an excellent partner for EZCater and I’m sure they can vouch for our reputation. Again, it was an unfortunate mistake for which I have apologized. Your demeanor, telling us we “suck” and requesting a local small business be banned speaks more to your character than anything I need say. We have successfully catered for over five years and will continue providing stellar service to our clients, but it doesn’t mean things won’t go wrong on rare occasion.
A mistake happened, a refund was given at my request, apologies were made and still, you ask to ban us? Maybe we aren’t the ones who need to be banned. "
WHO SPEAKS TO CUSTOMERS LIKE THAT???? Donnie Simpson's father is a minor celebrity in DC, so I guess he not use to not being able to gloss over his mistakes....and the way he treats women. I just don't want any other person, or planner or assistant to have to go through the stress and the veiled threats he issued on the phone.
I always walk by this place and I never go in. For the first time yesterday I caved and was glad I did! I only ordered one thing which was the Chocolate...read this and 277 more
