How would you rate Akwaaba DC?
My wife and I stayed in the Zora Neale Hurston suite from 03/31/13 - 04/03/13. Everything about our stay was exceptional. Service was impeccable, accommodations were exactly as pictured, and breakfast was fantastic. It is within walking distance of several nice restaurants and reaching the museums and National Mall is quickly and cheaply accessible via taxi.
The peace and serenity I exoerienced at Akwaaba is unparalleled. From the service to the decor to the surrounding activities in close promixity to the property, I was thoroughly impressed.
Kudos to the Akwaaba team! I will be returning.
Excellent place to stay, relax and unwind!
Excelente cálido amigable.
Excellent all around. Our host Kim was consistently gracious, helpful and friendly. The building is a Victorian era house located in a great DC neighborhood. Rooms (friends stayed there too) were comfortable and nicely appointed with antique furniture and African-themed art. Breakfast and happy hour both were great. Five stars all around.
Stayed here during the inauguration for President Obama's 2nd term. it was just as pictured. The breakfast was great. Enjoy.
It was a great experience. We are planning to come here again.
Very nice service, great stay. Definitely recommend!
Great service and wonderful details.
The people who ran the b n b were wonderful! The breakfast was one of the best that I have had. The room that I had, had a lot to be desired. The veneer on the furniture in the room and bathroom was showing through and needed refinishing; the bedroom chair had a piece of material on it; the bedspread was a heavy velvet; the bedskirt was soil looking; the fabric around the shower did not look at though one wanted it to touch them; the shower floor had some unsightly stains. With some elbow grease, stain, and new fabric, this room would be decent to stay in. As I have never stayed in a three check hotel, I don't know if this would equate to one.
Just visited recently and all was well.Looking forward to our next visit.
I was eager to get here after great reviews and recommendations. The location was great and assessible to lots of restaurants, museums, etc. Chose the Langhston Hughes room, which was Lovely, For A BNB, I thought the breakfast selection could have been better and provided with a more buffet style rather than a prepared meal. Could use some minor upgrades on decor. The idea of Happy Hour for socializing with house guest is great, however the presentation and variety of light snacks and beverages were medial at best.
May need to visit other locations before referring others.
We are at the B&B right now for our 18th year wedding anniversary. We choose the Romantic room with the fireplace and the 2 head shower. Love the room, breakfast was great, staff is professional and customer service oriented. This is a real gem in Dupont Circle. We usually stay at the Ritz in honor of our wedding night stay there. This has been a real treat.
Perfect Staycation; wanted something in my own area...EVERYTHING PERFECT.
Looking for a Bed and Breakfast, this is it. I enjoyed my stay there. The staff is very accommodating. Breakfast and happy hour prepared daily. It was always good. The staff 'thumbs up'!!!
Very disappointing. 4th floor walk up with crooked, uneven and unstable stairs, extremely low ceiling and very little in the way of amenities. Attempts to update the brownstone or the accommodations were almost non existent. The window unit that strained and chugged loudly in the 90+ degree heat was held in place by scotch tape and bubble gum. Literally sleeping on the sidewalk would have been better.
Felt like a home away from home. Very comfy and in a great location. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Fantastic experience. Comfortable room, great location, super easy process. Can't recommend more!
I love every moment spent here. The inn keeper Noni was great. Her recommendations for things to do were fantastic. Food was amazing. She even left a happy Birthday note with champagne and Chocolates. Definitely will stay again.
Second visit to DC location for my husband and I. Excellent as always! Love everything about this B&B!! Highly recommend staying here if you want a real great getaway, or even if you are just in the area for business. It's a slice of home away from home!
Wonderful place to stay at. If you're ever in the DC area try to stay at the akwaaba bed and breakfast. The service was very good. The food was phenomenal and the room was very clean.
Beautiful, if you are into history and can appreciate African American history this is the place for you. Emerging yourself in the DC culture is what you will be getting. Kim the Inn keeper just makes you feel at home with her sweet an welcoming personality. This is exactly what a Bed and breakfast should be.
Short stay was everything I thought it would be. No complaints they treated us well, the breakfast was good. The crowd I ate breakfast with was diverse and sociable.
Just checked in and already loving it. Black owned with Black memorabilia and photos throughout. Lovely reception and walkthrough by hotel caretaker. Area is very historic, with townhouses and tree-lined streets. Reminds me of Brooklyn Promenade with a mix of Upper West Side. Definitely a good choice when in DC.
I stayed over the 4th of July weekend in the Inspiration room. It was private and filled with light - we had an amazing experience. The Innkeeper was so...read this and 19 more
