How would you rate Unity National Bank - Blodgett?
i went in today and opened an account. everyone was friendly, helpful, and the process to open was quick! i even met the president of the bank, who is surprisingly approachable! never been to a bank like this!
I love this bank. When you walk in, instantly you are a person of respect. There's no judgement and you just fit in well with the community itself. It is great to bank with people who look like you, talk like you, and share similar world experiences like you.

The check-in was amazing, but once my name was called to open a checking account, it wasn't the best experience. The person that opened my account wasn't as nice to work with, she wasn't warm at all. Again, the check-in staff were awesome.
Very unprofessional service at this location. I can clearly tell that many of the employees have their noses in the air. Today my wife applied for a simple checking account, and received poor service. The woman who completed the application did not tell when her debit card would come in, and did not even pass out her business card. Honestly, we don't even know her name at this point. Will move to another bank after this fiasco.

If I could, I would give this bank a negative 1. First off, I tried to support my fellow black business, but like I thought, it was not a good idea. I opened my account in August and everything was okay, until I applied for a loan early November and I was instructor to get my bank information and send it back. I went to Unity and asked if they could supply me with documentation that would show my address, date I opened the account, the account number etc. The lady at the very end of the teller desk asked me first my account number which I provided and never asked me for ID. (First mistake) Second, she confirmed my address with me and did not let me confirm it back two her. (Second mistake) Third, she printed out this paper which had all my information on it and did not confirm my identity by asking for my ID NOT ONE TIME! I was a victim of ID theft and I felt very unsafe. So I went back to the branch late November and closed my account, or so I thought. I just reviewed my loan activity and realized the payments have been coming from that account I closed! The account is now negative 370.00 because the lady (by the glass window by the bank vault) I sat with did not close the account as she advised and there has been ACH payments being deducted from the account and fees. I am so upset! Not only did this bank fail to protect my account, but they lied and did not close the account. Now I am going to be responsible in paying back the fees. I should have stuck with my bank!

To all the idiots posting negatively about the banking experience based on things you yourselves are responsible for...you didn't get the purpose of opening an account with a black owned bank. My experience hasn't been perfect but I remain loyal because THEY NEED US! Quit expecting to be spoon fed by your people. I love the service overall and look forward to maintaining a great relationship with my bank.
There are many new accounts being opened so they do get overwelmed, but it was a good experience overall

I love the idea of black owned and operated, the speed of service could be better or maybe just more employees to help open accounts. But GREAT experience overall and very helpful with questions.
I have an account here because I want to have some of money in a black owned bank. Yes, the service is limited and there are only two locations, but, to me, the ends justify the means and it's worth the once a year trip to make a deposit. At least now the drive thru is open on Saturdays! #isupportblackownedestablishments
Great service. Much better than Chase. I'm glad I made the switch because my work makes me travel constantly and Chase doesn't allow out of state withdraws. Not a problem with Unity. Smooth f'ing sailing.
Great in house customer service doesn't offset the fact this bank is literally behind in the times. There's no benefits to this bank whatsoever. I'm sorry, I can't.
I had the worst experience at this bank. Can't pay bills using Unity Bank Debit card, (Light Bill, Mortgage). No Chips in their debit cards. Poor Customer Service. They are not open on Saturdays, only the drive through. Limited ATMs (only one outside the bank), but charge you when you use other ATMs, (like we have a choice). This place is a sorry excuse for a bank. I tried to support them, but they cant support me, or the average person daily living.
First Red Flag, I tried to pay my electric bill, via debit card, and it was declined. I called the bank, cause I knew I had money in the bank, and was informed that reliant does not take their debit cards.
Next, I tried to pay my mortgage, via debit card, and it was declined stating I was over the daily limit amount. So I called the bank, knowing I had the money in bank and was told my daily limit amount was $1,500, my mortgage was $2,000 and they were not able to increase my daily limit to pay my mortgage bill.
Then, I was out of town and they cut my debit card off, (on a Friday) for unusual transactions in another state. This was understandable, so I tried calling Saturday morning during normal banking hours and no one answered. Online it says their Saturday hours are from 9 am to 1, but no one answered. I was so upset. I had to get a friend to wire me some money so I can return home Sunday. How embarrassing.
How can this bank stay in competition. I tried to support them but I cant. I'm done!
The people who are posting positively about this bank are MOSTLY PAID REVIEWERS. The worst customer service of any bank and talking about GHETTO!
I like the personal service and I would recommend it to my family and friends. Additionally I have experienced nothing but good people who work there and it's like family.
Although locations are limited, opening accounts at Unity is one of the best decisions we’ve made. Customer Service is great and they are adding features that make banking more convenient. It was important to us to invest in Black owned businesses and banks, and we have yet to be disappointed.
This place needs a huge revamp. They hold your money for BS reasons then lie about when they will release it then have attitudes like you owe them. Places like this make you not want to support black owned business. Y'all just lost a customer and I'll make sure I tell everyone looking for a new bank not to look in this direction. Even Ray Charles can see y'all full of it.
I actually regret opening up this account. I opened my accounts because I love supporting black businesses, but the services they provide are so limited. I moved and I cant simply update my address over the phone or online. It is a long drive to get there. Every time I call I’m told “You'll need to come up here to do that." and have the nerve to blow their breath when I ask questions. I'm DONE!!! I can't even order checks online. I'm closing both of my accounts within the next week. I guess if you just need somewhere for your money to sit, then this bank is fine. I would not recommend it to friends and family.
I was totally embarrassed when my purchase at a high end retailer got declined twice. I got a call from fraud protection which asked me about the purchase which I confirmed; went back a 3rd time and it was declined again. The balance in my account was well over the amount to cover the purchase..... I need to hear from someone at Unity! COMPLETELY DISSATISFIED!
I really wanted to love and support this bank since it is the only black bank in Houston, but sadly my experience offered ample evidence of why this bank is unfortunately sub par in their service and offerings. After having already called ahead to inquire about the necessary paperwork and process to open a business checking account, I was disappointed to arrive to an unorganized mess. I waited an entire hour for an attendant to see me, only for the woman to be completely rude and unprofessional, failing to perform even the most common of courtesy such as introducing herself, asking my name and attempting to outline their service lines. She then proceeded to tell me because I owned an actual business and not a sole proprietorship, there was only one lackluster account option which had no perks and very high fees. I explained to her that this was not what was told to me when I called ahead, or what the marketing material she was showing me detailed. She rudely called a manager, who seemed to lack any basic understanding of business accounts, how they worked or paperwork required, and she eventually admitted t hat their paperwork that they had provided online and in person was WRONG, and that they really don't do business accounts. What a complete waste of time. This bank will never get my business
I will never bank with this bank. I called in and spoke with someone named Ashley and she gave me wrong information, I found out it was wrong after I drove 45 min to get the branch to find out they wouldn't do what Ashley said they would do and on top of all that she didn't work at this branch. This bank is terrible I would never recommend this bank to anyone. I also spoke to a person named Debra who I was told is over the tellers and she told me the same thing I was told in the bank and began to talk with an attitude towards me. I thought the customer is supposed to be right. She could have at least tried to help me resolve the matter but she didn't.
I called as long a question about products the bank may have.
I was interested in home and auto. Like other banks.
The lady who answered was irritated.
Then when I was trying to think of the word product. To ask was products the band had.
She rudly asked if I thought the bank sold insurance.
Then abruptly for off the phone.
I was trying to support black owned business. But she confirmed it is not worth driving from Pearland to do business with them.
The absolute worst bank ever. Outdated services. Poor customer service. No 24 hr contacts. Rarely answer the phones. Non-responsive to emails and complaints. Incompetent staff with no follow through. I have 2 business accounts. Continuous issues that I don't have with other banks.

I just tried to open a business bank account. I figured since I planned on doing business in Africa it would only be fitting that I should open my first business in the ONLY black owned bank in the US.
From the jump, I sensed bs.
First no one said anything, just kept passing me by.
When I finally got the lady's attention, she just couldn't belive they I'd somehow obtained a dba and ein. At one point she even asked whether I had the funds to open the account in a way that implied that I must likely didn't.
When this didn't work they started asking about my personal living arrangements, and finally said I couldn't open an account because somehow my adderess history is incomplete even though I've only moved twice in the last 3 years. Most bs thing I've ever heard.
I went right to chase(with whom I already have a personal account) and went right thru the process
I know what it was though. They judge they own harder than anyone else. That's why after all these years of being open they've never grown.
If you black and not totally sold into the system, don't bank with them.

I tried to support this bank (for 3 years and 4 months) but can no longer back a bank with outdated services, poor customer service, routine technical issues and no 24/7 customer care line to call. The overall idea of this bank is great but you sacrifice a lot of "basic" bank amenities, or so have you. Now, if I were to see that they were actively trying to improve, I would not be so harsh but after my personal experience I see no effort to change. No thank you! I do wish them the best though, I just can't be apart of this.
I will no longer support this bank my debit card was compromise and bank reused to send me a new card . Agent was to supposed to remove card a another transaction went through . banker got up set because they had replace my money so my punishment was no DEBIT card for me. Took 20 days to mail card. when i called to inquire no card had been mailed.

I feel Unity Bank is a Family!!! I really appreciate Angela (Customer Service Manager) & Linda going out of their way to assist me during my time of need. The staff are very professional, accommodating, and thoughtful!
During this quarantine, we were in the midst of traveling. The areas we were going to visit were closed or being barracaded. The hotels we had reserved were being cancelled on us.
So we decided to stay put where we were until things rolled over. But we could not access our funds, and this amazing bank were able to wire the money from my Savings into another bank checking account, so we could stay put.
We will travel home when things cleared up. This eliminated much stress. We have our vehicle (so no flying back the thousand+ miles) and we a family of 8. So this helped us tremendously. Thank you😍
I recently had an issue with my account but from the moment I called to the point of my arrival, I was treated with excellent customer service. I have had my account for a few years now. Initially, I opened it to help further minority banks and I am glad to have done so. Although they don’t have many services like their competitors, they are continuously making improvements and I have seen the growth. I want to thank Ashley Martin once again for her assistance in fixing my account situation so promptly. I will continue to bank with Unity bank for as long as I can. I know they will continue to grow and display great customer service.
I don’t know what happened to the customer service here. No one wants to pull up to unhappy faces with no greetings and to have the teller give long customers a hard time who have been banking for years. I don’t care what type of day you had, put on a smile for the customers please and thank you.
Where else can you find a community bank that offers so much assistance? Every member of the team is professional and willing to go the extra mile to help no matter how big or small the issue. Not to mention they do it all with a smile! Community and support!

I called the Bank to get information on services they offered and received outstanding service from Ashley. I greatly appreciated her professionalism and how she told me what she can do for me instead of what she can't do. There are so many businesses out there that are focused on saying no to everything that they miss the opportunity to help people. Ashley took great care of me and gave great advice!
I don't know what happened but the customer service has gone down. I hate to even leave a bad review, but listen to the other reviews regarding customer service and outdated procedures. Kreayshawn and Regina are awesome even Yolanda is great. But I have had some recent interactions with some people that work there including Jeanetta that has really turned me off. I am truly embarrassed by the poor service recently. I have been a member for a few years now and was extremely proud but recently has convinced me to no longer make deposits or open any new personal or business accounts here.
It's time to control our capital, our growth and our future....yes ours black banks are struggling to compete....but that only because of us. Thank you Unity National Bank, I put respect on your intelligent.
I called at 9:15 am to talk with someone about a commercial loan and was told Ms. Gidrey would call me back, nobody ever did. I called back at 3:45 pm and was told Ms. Gidrey would call me back, I told them they told me that in the morning and I was she was with a client and would call me after. She didn't, fortunately a lot of other banks did call me back.
