How would you rate The Red Sea Bar & Restaurant?
Awesome service, awesome food. Best Ethiopian restaurant in the twin cities without a doubt. Recent new ownership made a huge improvement.
My partner and I love Red Sea. We always get the sampler. The service is great too. Check out this restaurant.
Great experience with my family, I can wait to go back and have that spice food again.
Also the Vegetable combo is the best meal.
excellent customer service and very welcoming hospitality because of the tasty food I am a regular customer keep it up
AMAZING food, I highly recommend anyone to eat here when they've got the chance.
The New owners are fabulous , Best customer service and BEST FOOD every time we go there which makes us feel like we never get let down for our hard earned money , 5 ******
The Best Ethiopian Restaurant in MN. Serves authentic Ethiopian Cuisine made fresh. Decor is cultural, depicting the beauty that is Ethiopia. Service is superb and the food is a delightful and delicious experience that you shall never forget.
I love the food here. Takes a while, but worth it.
My boyfriend and I went there because it was recommend. At the beginning everything was nice, but when we placed our food it took more than 45 minutes, two, Mayen three other tables (parties) came after us and got their food right away and we still waited for the food, we ended up leaving without getting our food. We are extremely disappointed and personally I don't think I want to go back again. My advice try other places! This really sucked!
Food flavorful, service slack, fraud investigators shut down card after charging the meal.
I would say it was....so good!!! Our server Hana was hilarious and made sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. We made a late lunch reservation on a Saturday and it was pretty quiet. Sambusa - very fresh and crispy. The rice delicious. Kitifo of course - amazing, melt like butter.
It's an upper scale restaurant with amazing food and a relaxed environment.
Overall, a great first impression!
I never found good ethiopian food for a while before I get to red sea. If you crave ethiopian food this should be the best food with awesome service.
Dont let afton there no more
Delicious every time. Family owned and operated serving some if the best Ethiopian food around. Staff have always been friendly and helpful, going out of their way to provide excellent service. The food tastes incredibly fresh, with all the complex flavors that are the hallmark of this cuisine. Highly recommend!
The food here is stunningly good. If you have never tried Etheopian food you will not be disappointed.
My fiance got the West Bank Tibs and I got the Yebeg Tibs. We had never had dinner here before and we were extremely impressed. Everything was well cooked and flavorful without being too strong. Will visit again.
The food here is amazing. It's easily my favorite Ethiopian food restaurant. And the staff is very friendly and kind. If you've never had Ethiopian food, you should go here to try it. And if you've had Ethiopian food, still check this place out-it'll probably become your new favorite.
Food fine, service very slow. Many people were served before us, who arrived after us. Our custom was not desired.
Loved the place, the place was beyond nice and ended up being a regular there (: especially one of the girls that work there "saron" is the sweetest. Place is great!
We literally sat there for 10 mins while servers walked all around us to help other tables, didn't even get a menu let along a cup of water. We just got up and left. Terrible service. Never setting a foot in there again.
Beautiful place and friendly owner and staff. Dont forget great food
Great food and atmosphere. A really nice spot.
Upon entering we were overwhelmed by the delicious aroma of the food. Everyone at the place was very friendly (including the other patrons). It was such a welcoming atmosphere. Not being very familiar with Ethiopian cuisine, our server was eager to explain the various dishes and took great pride in being able to share information about his culture. The foods are not radically exotic and do not require a acquired taste, so it is great for someone who is not that adventurous to be able to try something really new and different.
They had a selection of Ethiopian beers which I had never heard of before. I sampled 2 and loved them. Then our meal came and it was even better than the aroma would have led me to believe. When finished, everyone (including the friendly patrons) smiled and waved. It felt like leaving a family gathering.
The place itself is not very large. Perhaps a dozen tables, and a bar that seated about 10 (I believe there is a nightclub attached as well, though I did not see that part of the establishment). The vibe of the restaurant was very casual, but we also felt right at home being a little dressed up (having just come from a show at the Mixed Blood theatre which is easily within walking distance). They had Ethiopian music playing in the background. It was lively, but still very easy to carry on a conversation with our friends at the table. It would be a perfect place for a date, or small groups of 4-6 people.
I could not recommend this place enough. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.
Delicious food slow but the staff are awesome
Had the 'Kitfo' and it was good. But if you don't like spicy food, I suggest you tell them about it. The service was also OK.
Contrary to what many others may say, I believe this is the best Ethiopian joint in town. Good selection of Ethiopian beers and a huge menu.
We always do the veggie combo and then a double meat combo and go home feeling stuffed.
Generally easy to get a table but definitely turns into a louder bar atmosphere on weekend nights.
Been going to Red See for a few years now. Food has been very consistent and service is top class. Highly recommend it!
Perhaps the best Ethiopean reastaurant in Minneapolis. Our Ethiopean friends agree. Flavorful and lean cooking, great service, and friendly staff. My favorites are the veggie sampler, Dulet (beef, tripe and kidney), raw kitfo (spiced ground beef), the doro wat (spicy chicken stew), and the Ethiopean spiced tea, and the beers (of course)...
Fantastic Ethiopian food. I hope you like eating with your hands!
This may be the best Ethiopian/Somali restaurant in the metro, good food and comfortable. Men gather here for coffee and conversation, they are moved away when you want a table.
Both meat and veggie foods are good and we usually order one of each.
Come here for some authentic Ethiopian tibs, spiced tea, and more. The menu has plates for multiple peoplethat are "family-style", where you eat directly from, as well as personal entrées.
If you are not familiar with the cuisine, but you like Indian food, you'll likely enjoy this (a lot of African food has ties to Indian food).
It's adjacent to a place with loud modern music, which you will hear if you sit in the back but not notice in the front.
It's a popular place for locals and people from outside the city. It's certainly a "gem of Cedar Ave." Head down two doors to the Keefer Cafe and Bakery for dessert after a meal here.
The food here is INCREDIBLE, and the staff is wonderful. Everything is cooked and prepared by the family that owns the restaurant. The atmosphere is also very nice. The prices are also great.
Vegetarian lunch buffet was a great deal at $9.95! The bread and rice were nice accompaniments to the variety of curry-like dishes. The star of the show for me were the veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) in a light green sauce.
The interior was cozy, and the server was friendly but was difficult to track down when I was ready to pay. Hopefully I will be back at a dinner time to try some main entree dishes and some drinks.
Used to be one of my favorite Ethio place in the cities but has recently slipped behind its competition. There are a couple of better places to go now.
Very nice people and staff. Very nice, authentic Ethiopian food.
Place has some pretty good entertainment for the nights. The second side of the bar makes it very convenient. The place looks pretty nice inside too.
have been coming to the red sea, off and on for the past 30 years. the quality varied on who owned it at any given time.
August 1 2017 had the lunch buffett. i guess not too bad for the price, but it could just as well have been excellent with a little more attention for detail.
the greens and the cabbage were very good. but the lentils werent good specially the red qey wet which i came craving to eat but found it undercooked. 15 minutes more on the burner, i would have rated it a 5.ቁሌት ያንሰዋል!
pleased with the service, ambiance and melodic music.
Every time a great experience. Staff was extra friendly last visit. I felt very comfortable. Food was awesome.
Love this place! Reggae happy hour is the best dance spot! Food is great and late night menu by T is amazing! Music by DJ Sound of Fujun!
Love the Wednesday night's reggae happy hour. Great music food and dancing.
Really liked the food and the people. They are friendly. Portions are generous and food is great. Very casual decor. Not fancy. Great place for meeting with friends or bringing the kids. With Ethiopian food you eat with your hands. All great stuff both veg and nonveg on the menu.
Spicy and delicious! Big portions and a great price. Steak sandwich was cheap and seasoned exquisitely. Friendly staff, fun music.
The food was great, but the service was awful. The quality of the food is the only reason I gave more than 1 star. We had a large party (7 people) that I made a reservation for. We ended up spending about 2.5 hours at the restaurant because they kept forgetting what everyone ordered, even though the waitress had written down our orders. They only got one of our orders right the first time, the rest they either "didn't have" the dish anymore, or brought the wrong dish to our table that no one had ordered, or didn't remember who had ordered the dish they were bringing. 3 out of 7 of us didn't get our entrees until over an hour after we had ordered. One of them, the staff told him they didn't have what he ordered anymore, so he had to order something else an hour after his initial order. One person's entree never came, and he ended up having to get it in a box (and still didn't know what entree he had ordered until the end). The entire time we were there, the staff pretty much ignored us and didn't fill our water glasses or bring us napkins until we specifically asked. Tables around us were getting their orders way earlier than we did, even though we ordered first. One of us had been here before and had a good experience, so it may be that The Red Sea just cannot handle large parties, but that was no excuse for the service we experienced. A party of 7 is not uncommon for a typical restaurant, and they should have been prepared for us, considering that they knew we were coming with our reservation. They did give us a minimal discount for the terrible service, but the gesture was sort of lukewarm considering how much they messed up.
Great service, friendly and attentive! The food was amazing! So delicious! Would highly recommend
Great restaurant with flavorful authentic Ethiopian food . I had the awaze tibs and kitfo and it was really tasty. The customer service is awesome and the waitresses are friendly. It has a very authentic Ethiopian ambience ..it’s like a little Ethiopia
Ethnic food at its finest. Cozy atmosphere, very friendly good food. Highly recommend to try it.
Was out for Gary Cardinals benefit and Rico Tek Burch slapped a drink of water out of my hand and had me bounce out fo absolutely no reason at all. The bouncer punched me in the face. Then the crowd decided to throw in their punches.. I'm disappointed in the scene tonight. We need to do better.
Excellent menu options. The food quality was excellent as well. Huge portion sizes. We ordered out and the delivered to us. They have a really nice online ordering and updating system. Food was still really hot and very fresh when they got to us. Flavors were fantastic!
I love eating here. The food is so good and they always offer a lot of injera. Their prices are really reasonable as well. I really love their lamb dishes. I would highly recommend !!
Went here for the FREEWIFI album release party and we had an excellent time. The sound is pretty decent and the atmosphere of the Red Sea draws in people from all over the city.
It's a bit hard to find street parking if it's a busy time (Friday nights especially) so be sure to head out early and find a spot that isn't too far away.
We went over to the Red Sea restaurant for dinner on my wife's birthday with our couple friends. We had previously ordered from the Red Sea through BiteSquad, but this was the first time we went to the location. The food was absolutely fantastic and the service was excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Tonight i went to Red Sea restaurant and ordered a veggie sampler the food came hot and was delicious. The server which I guess is the owner is a polite man and well informed about the recipe of the dish.he even fixed me his own cocktail made of rum and grandmagnier I loved it. Here is my 5 star for you. I will visit you again.
My fiancé and I tried Red Sea just tonight and we absolutely loved it! Our food came out so quickly and our waitress was very kind and checked on us many times to see how we liked our food. We got the vegetarian platter good for two and it was delicious! They are very generous with the injera. The owner even came to our table and chatted with us about our favorite dish and shared his and his family's favorite. We will definitely be going back!
Went there for a buddies rap show so that's the only time I can comment on it. Good atmosphere, wasn't too packed. Pop was cheap, $2 specifically. Alcohol was somewhat expensive, but for the amount they gave, i feel like it was a good deal actually. My buddy got a long island for $8 and literally 4/5 of the cup was alcohol. He just put a shot of coke in there for color I feel like
Amazing food. Great customer service from both our waiter & the owner of the restaurant. He came out to greet us personally.
As for the food. It was a lot of food for 4 people. We didn’t even finish it. Definitely shareable.
Delicious food w/ good service!!! Server Lala was sweet and friendly. I had their flavorful fried fish & veggies served with rice and injera. Lots of food for good price!
A friend from Seattle visited Red Sea while he went to Minneapolis for a holiday. He was very impressed by the service rendered to him. He appreciated the food. In his words he said, "the food was so delicious and very friendly service". Besides, he was excited by the view, neatness and the over all outlook of the restaurant. He recommends this restaurant as the best place to have meal and drink.
This place is great. Every time I go there, kind owner and wait staff, super strong mixed drinks and GREAT food. I’d suggest getting a mixed platter of veggies and meats so you can try a little bit of everything. Grilled steak and onions were great.
First of all I would like to mention they had a great service. They patiently explained all my doubts and gave me some good suggestions. The food was tasty and it's a Mid range restaurant like many other ethiopian restaurants. Overall it was a good experience.
One of the best foods I've had in a really long time! Good vibes! Also the owner took time and asked us how our food was. would totally recommend!
This place is absolutely amazing. The food was so good 10/10. Also, the owner came up to us and asked how was the food which I think this was so nice and sweet to make the customers feel comfortable.
The couple times I ate from Red Sea with my friends, I was very impressed with the service and the food is incredibly delicious! The Ethiopian music, and the coffee reminds you back home! The owner is very kind, friendly and welcoming! Highly recommending!💫🌟
First time trying Ethiopian food and it was a great experience. I had the Cedar special with Miser and it was delicious. There were some amazing flavors and the food was obviously high quality. The waitress was patient and answered all of my questions and she came back often. I really enjoyed my meal, especially for the price. Go prepared to eat with your hands, although if you're a difficult person they will provide utensils. :)
It's not my first time eating African food living in saint Paul I have had visited the other Ethiopian Restaurants. But the experience I had at Red Sea during the Weekend is quite different. The veggies I eat was fresh and tasty the servers made time to come out to the patio and see how we were doing. Try their local Asmara Beer as well.
My favorite food on the EARTH. I always get the super veggie combo to share and leave sleepy, full & happy. Ultimate comfort food & friendly servers everytime. Bless you red sea.
They are a destination restaurant. The food will make you smile. The vegetarian options are a clue to how good food can taste. I like how the flavors compliment each other. We had a group meal selection and tried a few different items. The lamb and beef stew will make you rethink past meals and plan your next visit. I had the tea on a hot day it was wonderful in a cup.
BEST Ethiopian restaurant in the Twin Cities hands down. Clean environment, great music and an extremely friendly staff. The owner Ayub makes you feel welcomed and at home. I honestly don’t eat anywhere else when I am in the city. The food is very delicious and the options are endless. This restaurant is a must visit if you’re in the Minneapolis area.
Go with 4-6 people and get the Tour of Ethiopia. You will get an incredible spread for a great price. This food is incredible!
Food was amazing!!! Loved the atmosphere and the customer service. Will definitely be returning👍🏽
Delicious food! My go-to is the veggie sampler, which is more than enough for two. The space is casual and service is always friendly.
Food was great, really hit the spot! Had to ask twice for my beer, but service was good otherwise. Definitely going to go back for our next Ethiopian craving.
This is a great venue, lots of support and love for the local musicians. These guys do a great service to the community and city at large by providing our young, unrecognized talent a place to perform and showcase their abilities. If we want a larger, more influential art culture in Minneapolis, we need more venues like this. Keep doing your things guys, we appreciate y'all.
This is my second time coming here. The food is amazing. The service is great. The cook came out to talk to us about the food. Highly recommended!!
Good service and good food. The coffee was small but very strong. I ordered the veggie sampler and my boyfriend got the lamb. I love using the injera like a tortilla, but even better is its gluten free. All the spices are wonderful, thank you.
One of the best East African spots I have ever been to! Everything that I had was full of so much depth of flavor, and most of all the portion sizes were on point.
There was a bit of a wait to before my food actually arrived but once it did I had nothing but good things to say about everything I had!
The customer service was also very nice and friendly, and one the owners even came out to ask us how things were tasting!
Exceptional Ethiopian restaurant with tasty food and excellent service. Whether you’re new to trying Ethiopian cuisine, or you’re addicted to injera, this is the go to place in Minneapolis. I highly recommend ordering the “Tour of Ethiopia” which is a nice mix of vegetarian and meat dishes, and can feed 3-4 very hungry people, or serve as a nice platter for more if you’re there on a happy hour. The service is always friendly and attentive.
This place was clean, the food was good, it was worth the price, the ambiance was relaxing and the service was very good. Had the special for 2. They also accommodated my spouse who needs gluten free
Service was quick, and the food was freaking delicious! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Cedar-Riverside Neighborhood.
I'm new to Ethiopian cuisine and don't have a great basis for comparison, but all I know is that my meal was damn good. Staff was friendly and showed me how to go about eating without fork and knife, which was newer to me. The tea was quite nice as well. Music and decor was also such that I felt like I was eating at a quaint and clean restaurant well outside the states. 5/5, will return for more food.
The food was wonderful.. My first time in Minneapolis and I'll be back soon just for the food and great service.
What can I say, I loved the food here. We had the combination for four, everything on the plate was so delicious! One thing to point out is that the appertizer roll is the same pancake bread you will have with the main dish, so wish we had ordered the other options.
The food was excellent. Only if the liquor was provided to those interested it would have been great. I didn't liked having liquor on my table..
Nice Ethiopian food ! But the room is hollow and narrow. Decent waiters and the food is delicious.
The best Ethiopian restaurant in town. Love their food and services. Very friendly people. The owner is very nice always asks how our food is. I eat here few times a month. This is the place to be if craving for Ethiopian food.
Just had vegie plate - delicious! & quite plentiful (for $13!) And lovely, fast service in nice, colorful place. Only disappointment: no honey wine! (tho they do have reds & whites; hmm...) Highly recommend.
Best Ethiopian I've had in a long time as well as across multiple cities in the US. Possible bias because I was really hungry, but you can for sure get a full and fantastic meal with friends and family. Slightly small though, so I wouldn't recommend large parties (
food and atmosphere is unique.. in a good way! Food presentation is very nice and I've never had a meal I didn't like, the staff is always on point! Wish it...read this and 62 more
