How would you rate The National Black Theater?
Measure for measure
Was a great production
The theater, the fabulous staff, and the production crew are nothing short of AWESOME! I was blessed to see Chisa Hutchinson's wonderful play, "Dead and Breathing," directed by Jonathan McCrory! There is phenomenal acting by Lizan Mitchell, and Nikki E. Walker does her character Justice! Since this is the opening production of the 47th Season, I can only believe Sade Lythcott, CEO has more in store! Word of mouth will have the house packed with "Dead and Breathing!"
I played on the same bill as Dougie Fresh and The Last Poets !!!
This is a special theater, beautiful energy and beautiful people!
Excellent venue,clean and spacious!
Less blacks than expected.
It's a humbling honor to stand under that roof so full of amazingly wonderful Black Theatrical Art.
Art gallery great place to relax and enjoy the painting
Multi-story building for event spaces that caters to local community. Close to subway lines and easy to access via public transit, in and of Harlem. Helps to positively represent African-American culture. Staff is helpful, and decor is nice.
The plays, lectures, and workshops are iconic and add very rich content. It's a historical landmark for the Harlem Community
A great theatre
Get a piece of some great art. Performances here will knock you out.
Nice place but not publicized enough
Beautiful atmosphere! I can't wait to see a show there.
Great vibe and I enjoyed the comedy show. I must go and support your folks black people. I promise you will not be disappointed. Very down to earth and cool out spot.
Very tranquil scenery. they also have moorish teaching every Wednesday from 630pm -11:00pm
This place is great. Went there to look up some genealogy information.
I love my neighborhood theatre. The plays are always well done and thoughtful, and I feel like they've made me a more aware neighbor and citizen, particularly the talkbacks which provoke discussion. Keep up the good work, guys!
I haven't been there in years! The venue is always nice and inviting. You feel a peace and calmness when you enter the theatre. I came this time for a tribute to a fantastic brother Sidiki. It was set up so nicely. He was an inspiration and will be missed!
A get space to visit and attend cultural events. The space can be rented to host a art exhibition, a wedding, movie night, conferences and dance performances.
Great experience. Went for a class and ended up enjoying myself. Will visit again!
Make sure to check out the Hip-hop Film Festival here.
Great for community events, cultured events. Can fit more than 500 ppl. Has clean restrooms. Very spiritual feeling and vibes.
Great place. Brings back memories of when I took classes there. A long time ago...
Attended a viewing for Malcolm X the lost tapes followed by a panel discussion. Very imformative and beautiful building
Feels good knowing your history and people of many ethnicities share information
It was an interesting experience; however, the theater needs a big updating.
The facade of the Building almost looked abandoned from a distance; its flags could use a changing since they were very dirty.
I went to the 3rd floor for a Martial Arts Events for Kemetic Masters. The theater pews were old, the stage too...
It appeared to me that everything in the theater could use a makeover.
The show, however, was enlightening and entertaining.
The bathrooms were terrible however. They need severe attention to. So because of these factors; i land this Theater a solid 3 out of 5.
Have seen some of the most interesting & thought provoking theater here. Come and enjoy! Great places to eat nearby.
I appreciate the historical significance to this theatre but it needs renovations. It needs something new...
Enjoyed Selma the Musical very much. Actors were good, music was captivating. Diction could be improved if volume were toned down a bit. Story of the history was well told.
Amazing venue to watch up and coming actors. Up close and personal. Parking is excellent.
Nice cozy theater. I felt comfortable while watching the performance here. Parking is not provided. The street parking is subjected to street cleaning regulations and other restrictions. Otherwise, there are other paid parking in the area.
Versatile space with interesting (and sometimes free!) events. Definitely worth attending an event here.
VERY worth it! Great one-woman show and interesting discussion after. Arrive a bit early to see the exhibit (at least for The Peculiar Patriot)
I've been here twice. It's beautiful and they have a lot of events. Even if you're not an art aficionado--just go.
Staging of The Peculiar Patriot was incredible. Staff led engaging conversation afterwards. Strong community theatre, highly recommended
There's so much to take in! From the architecture, sculptures, and the history of NBT. Every time I come here I feel at home. Excellent productions!
I attended a dance event here with the group Empire Steppers. The place was great for a night out dancing with friends. I'm not sure about parking in the area because a group of us were shuttled to the location.
The energy that surrounds the theatre is amazing. The vibe must be felt in person.
I’m in love with this little gem it has so many things going on it is a pleasure to take time out and enjoy them with my family and friends.
It more than a theater- it is the spiritual, cultral, and artistic epicentre of the harlem community.
A vibrant national stage that welcomes all visitors into the kind of conversations that only theater can provoke.
Great cultural experience in the heart of Harlem. Recommend everyone and anyone to swing by.
Oh yes, go see something at the NBT. I love this place.
So much love in 1 space. #thankful #kwanzaaeveryday #INjoy

Great hosts. Very organized and knowledgeable
Gorgeous Building. Friendly Staff. Clean Facilities.
A small intimate theater. Every seat is a great seat. Phenomenal set design and good use of space. I have only seen one play over a ten year period that was not my cup of tea. Tix are always a reasonable price with great themes.
This is a very nice place to visit. They also have shows you can attend and is in the heart of Harlem.

Cool place. Went here for an event. Different auditoriums inside. Nice experience
The theater is wheelchair Accessible. This vey important to me.
The Theater is clean.
Wonderul theater! Great productions that feature upcoming artists. A gem of Harlem.
This theater is an important cultural institution in Harlem. Stage plays and community discussions take place here. Barbara Ann Teer was the founder in 1968 during the turbulent times of social unrest. Eventually there will be a new building in it's place with the theater occupying 4 floors. As long as it remains in Harlem!!
I go to The Gathering here. I love the space. And the history in Harlem.
Nice theater space in the heart of Harlem... A lil disorganized with the staff and helping people figure out where they going and the general check in process... But quality shows and great art in there
The productions are excellent and the actors are terrific! Intimate space. Easy viewing.
Mr. Faison Is darling I have worked with him for a few events and absolutely adore him the establishment is beautiful as well and I will definitely recommend it to anyone seeking a beautiful venue in Harlem.
What a great theater in the heart of Harlem! There are a big number of events to visit. It’s very well kept and clean. The staff was welcoming and friendly.
Roomy good place for family get togethers, medium sized parties
Very esoteric. The blind sheeple should be very aware.
I worked in Harlem for 35 years. Drive pass the Theater almost every day, yesterday was my first time attending a play there. It was amazing. Very cultural..

Great place to perform. Full of culture and history.
The independent film festival held by The Hip Hop Film Festival was simply amazing at this venue. All seats were up close and comfortable. The Q&A part of the festival allowed for up close and personal contact with the actors. All around it was a fabulous event with a meet and greet and wine sip which followed. I will be sure to buy more tickets, early next year.
I came here various of times. It’s very diverse and they have a lot of cool things that go on here. The hip hop film festival. There’s a church that rents out a space on Sunday’s. They have shows here. I performed here on Sep 8th 2019 for a play called “Shades of our beauty” we had a pack house.
Something about this theatre felt like “home”. I saw a fantastic production, and hope to return to see more in the future!
