When I am asked to describe my experience I am puzzled.

Why? because I had very high hopes for the Museum and I am

disappointed. The Mint Museum has done more to exhibit and

show more African Culture & History than the Newly African

History & culture Museum.

I am the Founder of a Society which is respected and well

liked around the world for what we have done in promoting an interest

in African American History world wide.

I have been able to share some of our society's venues with

two of Charlotte's Museums but, when the Director of ESPER's

Society met with the person in charge of activities this type

of venue was not acceptable. I held the idea that this was a

African History & Culture Center. This Museum should be

First in any and all events which promote the History & Culture

and it should be out Front and not following.

A wide selection on display of the works of African American artists, Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Ernest Crichlow in their permanent collection, the current exhibits. A place to return would definitely return again and again...

LOVED IT! One of the best museums I've visited in a long time. So much history...one of my favorite exhibits was the one of black males. Often times, people don't see or refuse to see the world through the eyes of a black man living in America. This particular exhibit was very enlightening and educational...definitely a must-see if still available.

The space is great for special events especially given the indoor and outdoor space on the mezzanine level. Chanel Donald ran our event intently and everything went exactly according to schedule. The staff was friendly and did what they could to accommodate our guests. I would recommend The Gantt Center for any medium sized special event.

I was a bridesmaid in the Clemons/Cuberson wedding and the reception was held at this venue. Parking was a little frustrating as I am not familiar with downtown. Once I was parked and entered the venue I was greeted by Chanel Donald. She was cordial in assisting me, as I was running late to meet the rest of the bridal party for pictures upstairs. I was hoping for quicker attention as she could not leave her post to take me upstairs to the rest of the party. So I had to wait, but it worked out because another bridesmaid was late too so we were eventually escorted up together. The upstairs Terrace was absolutely beautiful for pictures! The sunset was just right with the structural look of the building. The night progressed and I really appreciate the staff and Chanel for their attentiveness because the bride's wedding coordinator was overwhelmed to say the least. She was confused and frustrated which put the timing off for the reception. We were 45 mins behind schedule and Chanel had stepped in to offer assistance but its only so much you can do when given the incorrect information. The food from Born to Cook catering, was not good. Potatoes were dry, and meat was lukewarm...I suggest to not recommend them to anyone for the next event. The space layout was not conducive for the amount of people that were in attendance. The table set up by the stairs didn't allow much room for socializing nor room for dancing. Overall, I give the experience 4 stars and I will go back for another event to at least have another comparison.

To whom it may concern - preferably someone with some authority ...

My name is Michael Albert and I am the owner and creative director of Charlotte Video Ventures, a local video production company. On Saturday, September 14th, I was a vendor for the Yemane/Byrd wedding at your center. My job, obviously, to film the event for the couple.

I just wanted to let it be known that my experience with your venue was horrific. Beginning from the initial contact with Chanel and continuing on with your security staff. First, having to use the loading dock was completely ridiculous. All of my equipment, comparable to the photographer's (which they were able to carry in through the front door) could have been brought in through the front door eliminating the need to deal with your security officer in the dock. He was rude, condescending and frankly disrespectful to me from the minute I pulled in. From waiting for two elevator rides, having orders barked at me and then a contradiction between him and Chanel about me setting up my equipment, only to get yelled at again to move my vehicle. This was completely unnecessary and avoidable. The guard in the dock couldn't even tell me how to get to a parking lot.

Next, the inability to move via elevator from the 2nd floor to the 4th without having to wait on a guard was ridiculous as well. Then I had the pleasure to interact with your female security captain. A pompous, condescending woman who evidently doesn't value her job or has yet to be trained to deal with the public. One of the photographers came in the front door, a male guard met him and blaring over the radio, the captain was yelling "tell him to go to the other door." So, bordering on being late for the event, as I was, he had to walk another block only to be let in the other door. No sign in, no bag inspection, nothing.

As the evening continued, the security staff remained impolite, Chanel was absolutely worthless in answering any questions from any vendor or guest, and this captain was nothing but a militant racist to me and rude to everyone. One guest even asked me for batteries for his camera because when he asked to go out to his car he was told "once you leave you can't come back."

Without continuing to write a book - I'll sum this up ... Two other vendors and I had a discussion during this nightmare and agreed that not only will we never accept a job that involves your venue, but we will recommend to our clients that they choose another venue as well.

As a US Army Military Police combat veteran, a retired police officer and SWAT Team Commander and now a small business owner I have quite a reach to recommend any place else but the Harvey Gantt Center for any event.

As soon as my groom and I decided on the day that we would get married and what type of wedding we wanted, we knew exactly the space that would fulfill this vision. Chanel Davis (Events Manager) and the rest of the Harvey B. Gantt Center staff did an amazing job helping us understand how we could maximize the space and how to create the perfect experience for our wedding guests. Chanel and her team are highly experienced while holding many events on a regular basis not limited to weddings. She was responsive to all of our questions, concerns, and suggestions. This venue is well known in the Charlotte, NC community and lives up to its reputation. I would not hesitate to book there again. FIVE STARS!!

I go every second Sunday to watch the movie cost of admission can be free with membership. Nice outing with snacks included. If it's summer time and the air condition is on you need to have a jacket and dress in layers, very cold inside the room were movie is played. I catch the train most of the time and have been searched by police 1 block from the Harvey B Gantt building on a Panther game day not in the search Zone area for the Panthers stadium beware of carrying a large purse, probably any purse and I hope not being black, we were the only people searched in a crowd of white people with coats and jackets which had pockets and could have had anything in them. They thought we were going to the game and search my mother's purse and mine only looked at the top could have been anything at the bottom kind of useless search.

My experience was very informative, engaging and interesting. Herman was a wonderful tour guide. He included personal experiences and astonishing facts. I learned much that I didn't know and got to explore beautiful aspects of the African-American culture. I would love to go again.

I had a great time going to the Harvey B Grant Center with the other students in the Wake Forest College LAUNCH program. I'm so glad I got to go and experience different cultures and stories through artwork. I enjoyed our tour with Mr.Herman and he was a great guide. You should definetly go to this museum!

Wake Forest College LAUNCH for Leadership had the opportunity to visit the Gantt Center. We brought our cohort of 65 high school students and had an awesome time. Herman took the time to speak to our students about his journey from high school to college and gave insight about the importance of an individual's story in formulating their future.

The Harvey B. Gantt Center is a work of art in and of itself, but venture inside and you will see some of the best and most meaningful (to me) contemporary art in the country right now. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The exhibits are well lit and include large quotes from the artist's on the walls. PS, yes you can (and should) go here if you are wanting to learn about Black art and culture. No need just drive by for years like I did since moving to Charlotte! Go check it out!

The Wake Forest College LAUNCH Program had an amazing time at the Harvey B. Gantt Center Saturday Oct 15th! Many thanks to Herman and his team of guides touring 60 high school students through the exhibits and engaging in thought provoking conversation. We are grateful for the exposure to African American arts and culture, this experience has impacted our students in a positive way!

Decent wedding venue but it is difficult to work with them and there are some supposed items included like chairs that because of quality no person will actually end up using

I do really like this museum, I would rate it 5 stars if there was a more diverse selection of art to see, but unfortunately the art here is quite limited. This is definitely a must see if you're in the area though.

The building is beautiful. When I visited there wasn't a large collection but the pieces are well annotated and explained and although sparsely filled, it encouraged exploration, contemplation and builds a thread between the different rooms and collections.

I attended specifically for a birthday celebration and only accessed the rooftop indoor and outdoor. Nice place to rent for an event. Great view of the Panthers Stadium from rooftop. I do think greater safety measures should be taken for railing especially since groups are allowed to have alcohol. No one had an issue in our group but I still couldn't help but notice. It rained that day and night and I was extra cautious out there because of the slippery like railing. Plenty of space to be out there and to still enjoy the view.

A beautiful place with great staff. The layout seems well thought out. I would suggest that when you have films with subtitles that the camera be moved a little higher.I say that so the people in the back can read and get a better understanding of the film.

Attended a book signing by two of the Tuskegee airmen, also met one of the first African American piolets for the US Air Force at this museum. Very welcoming, great gift shop. I have attended several functions at this museum such as the Black and Gray holiday celebration, Dance theater of Harlem display, Alvin Aley exhibits, various fund raisers!, Always money well spend for worthy cause. Clean restrooms, parking validated at nearby lots. Great place to visit in the Queen City.

The Gantt is a my favorite museum in Charlotte. Visit The Gantt and you will fall in love as well. This museum is unique because the art is not owned by the museum, so the art changes every six months.

Amazing African-American culture and history in the artistic form! I went to GroupOn and got a great deal for two visitors at the Harvey Gantt Center. It was affordable and I felt so cultured. I highly recommend that you donate and visit! The building is a little chilly/cold...so bring a wrap/jacket. (You're welcome!)

We enlisted the services of the Gannt Center for our June 2018 wedding. We utilized the rooftop area for the ceremony and the reception and was completely satisfied with every member of the Gantt staff involved in the creation of our vision. In particular, Chanel Davis, Director of Special Events and Merchandising, was hired as our Same Day Coordinator and was the BEST decision we made when it came to the wedding! She was punctual, professionally, detailed, organized and knowledgeable of the logistics of a wedding inside the Gantt Center walls. She and her staff were vital to our special day and we HIGHLY recommend using the Gantt Center for your wedding and hiring Chanel as your coordinator.

8/24/2018

Besides the structure of the building, it was nothing like the description. At least when I went. I was expecting a full museum experience, walls full of art and history. It was empty. Two rooms had exhibitions. One small room with neat photography that could only be understood with a flashlight shining on it. The second room was a conceptual display of African American men telling the stories of being black. Overall, I was underwhelmed by the museum.

Beautiful exhibits are perfectly curated and so relevant to the Charlotte context. They are often updating and switching out exhibits as well so there is always something new to see.

This is a wonderful location for an event. Their meeting space is lovely and the staff was so helpful. The meeting room was quiet without all the usual interruptions of people passing through like in a hotel. Highly recommend the event space.

The exhibitions on display here are though provoking to the core and illuminate beautiful truths about various African-American experiences. Can't wait for the next visit

I enjoyed myself. This was my 1st time going & I will be back. The crowd & atmosphere was very nice. The Brookhill Village exhibit was great as well as the other art exhibits. The 5th and York band was off the chain. They gave a great performance.

The Gantt center has many events for the community both family and professionals looking for after hour events. It is a nice place to learn about black history and learn about local history. I go every month for an event and recommend getting on their mail list.

The center has alot of history! Really cool art work and the approach of the galleries are unique. Its named after the 1st African-American Mayor of Charlotte, NC. We decided to have a 🙌Cultured Theme Sweet 16🙌 And our 1st stop was here👊💃! I was told it was the 1st request of it's kind to have a Sweet 16 kick-off here, however, with today's times and all thats going on... Our youth need to be educated and must keep their eyes open. This is a must do... Get a guided tour... Prices are very reasonable.

I attended a wonderful event at the Harvey B. Gantt center and I have to say, the venue and the exhibits were fantastic! You should check it out. The event was beautiful, and the food was delicious. Great place for an event!

Great museam. I've enjoyed the vast majority exhibits I've went to there. Although I must say the gift shop has declined quite a bit.

Beautiful galleries from artist Hank Willis Thomas! Our favorite was the video gallery. The galleries are arranged very well, especially the Brookhill gallery. The facility itself is pristine and inviting. It is family friendly, however, if your children are very young I wouldn't recommend you bring them along. This is a no touch facility with amazing work and toddlers can't help but to touch pretty things. I had to remind myself while walking the exhibits. I can't wait for the next exhibition, A Trip to the Motherland.

An amazing place that is good to visit for about an hour or two. Because of the short time frame, it is the perfect museum to go to for any native or visiting Charlottean.

I attended The Center For MLK Day. I enjoy the Film, the Exhibits, and the Gospel Singing with History of the Songs by Mary D. Williams.

Amazing atmosphere, drinks were premium, and music was great... Just hate the whole idea of people not dancing at parties or clubs too much phone time, been awhile since I went out socially so I was surprised to see how much things have changed over the years... You don't pay such high $$$ for entertainment and not be human interaction in some form... Idk maybe it's just me... All-star Weekend was awesome though...

I always enjoy my visit at the Gantt Center. Today I participated in the Heritage and History lunch and learn with Adrian Miller, a White House chef. His program was very educational and entertaining. There is always something of interest at The Gantt Center and I'm glad to have it in the heart of the city.

A Great Location in the heart of Charlotte. A lot of history and culture in this museum. They have something for the entire family to stay engaged.
