After a few month hiatus from REI, we returned, cautiously optimistic whether things may have improved, or just same ole same ole. We've been a number of times in the past month. Each time the service has been great, both from the cashier area and those working on the floor. We've always liked REI because of the quality of items they sell, but stopped going because of the service. Glad to see they seem to now have a staff that matches that quality. Kudos to REI for hiring good people. Love the new store and new location!

REI is a great store and great concept. We've been loyal customers for several decades. We moved to Dallas a couple of years prior to REI moving to its new location, and really didn't have problems with the service at the old location. Unfortunately, the employees at their new local are tarnishing its image. Seems every time we're in, they have someone new working the register. Mostly seems to be either someone who doesn't have a clue of what they're doing and/or some self-deluded, overly confident smart mouth fake. It's irritating when some 20 something employee refers to customers (twice their age) as 'hey buddy', or 'what's up dude'. The older woman that is consistently there, seems to know how to do 'stuff', but just stands in the background. Am tired of being their guinea pig because they haven't done adequate training. She may know how to run the cashier area, but fails at training (possibly just burned out). That, or they simply can't find anyone qualified to work there. Maybe they just need to suck it up, pay someone more, and find decent people to avoid the constant turn over. It's to the point that we dread going in there anymore. It's time consuming and irritating. A shame really, because REI is a great store.
Liked the old location better.
The new store seems smaller & is a pain to get in and out of. Also recycling an older structure would have been more 'green' (and interesting) than building a new one.
I tried returning a Hull a port pro that was gifted to me a little over a year ago. Certainly my fault for holding on to it that long but two moves in 18 months meant a lot on our plate. It was new in box and had not been disturbed and I wanted store credit. The lady at the register had a demeanor about her unlike one I remembered of employees at the Midway location. "Policy has recently changed" was the explanation and not much eye contact or an apology. No worries though. If you're looking for a pro, find it on Craigslist for a discounted price!
Terrible service! I went in expecting to buy a kayak and no one showed up to assist. I asked for help twice and not one person showed up. Instead I saw 3-4 employees near the restroom playing around and giggling. They honestly have pathetic service and I hope you as a customer think twice before shopping at REI.
I love this store, fun to be inside, love it. There are employees who have been with REI for years that are very good at what they do, in particular, in cycling, and at the cherckout. REIs helped me out with gear, on returns, repairs, and even on other businesses gear. At times I probably got enough out of the return that they lost $ but in the end, they get a loyal customer.
Also when they offer a course in navigation or in bike repair I trust that I'll learn something. I would not say that elsewhere.
I like the merch, though the prices are a little steep. The reason this is only 3 stars is because every single time I walk into an REI, there's no one there to help me. I always have to hunt an employee down or ask the cashier for someone to help me.

Great products, really slow service. I often wait in line for over 15 mins. They don't seem to be able to get any of their employees (who are often wandering around the store) to come and help at the registers. Get it together guys!
How the hell does an outdoor adventure store open at 10am on a Saturday? I got things to do! You have the stuff I need, so why do you make me resort to Walmart? Stop trying to be snobby, and open up at 8am like the rest of the outdoor stores.
Service is exceptionally slow and, like other REIs, although the quality is good for some options, they're overpriced and frequently understocked.

If I could give zero stars that is what I would give. Zero customer service no one approached me for any help. I finally went to go ask the big guy at the bikes with the tattoos and I felt like I was annoying him. I had to ask him again (got the not you again look) for some help. He tried to push their $20 membership fee while writing up a work order. After the way I was treated No way. Then when I went to go pay for my purchase the rude clerk at the register Again asked me about the membership and I said no thank you. She then rudely asked "Can I ask why?" At this point I was not going to spend one more penny at this store. She kept asking me and I felt like once I said No again she was also annoyed. Not sure why the lack of customer service and what looks like disgruntled rude employees but I will Never shop at REI again.
Average REI store with very high quality products and large price tags. Very welcoming customer service with four people asking if I needed anything within 45 minutes.
This REI had great selection and a very friendly staff. The outdoor class selection was small and uninspiring, but the store team was great!
Absolutely love Sports Basement.They are all things that you want in a retailer that you come back to again and again: great products, awesome customer service, nice discount program that allows you to save money and donate a portion of their profits to a nonprofit of your choice.Sports Basement is on my list of essential shopping places in Dallas, TX !
I want to give kudos to the customer service this business provides. I walked in at one if the busiest times of the Christmas season, & headed to the women's apparel section, where I was immediately greeted by Lori. She hunted down the last jacket of a particular kind I was needing for my exchange in the matter of a few minutes. I appreciate very much how kind and quick my visit was! As well, I am thankful that Lori helped make my sisters Christmas by helping me with this jacket! Thank You Rei!

The customer service here regarding defective equipment or other issues that may arise – is very taken care of. I'm adding this to the list of places to only shop along with Nordstrom. The service is outstanding and not a hassle. Dana was great.
Prices similar to those online. Nice place with lots of floor rooms. Did not find any people on the floor but maybe that is because it was in the middle of the day.
Great selection of camping, hiking equipment & clothing. A little pricey, but specialized stuff.

Nice store. Pleasant and helpful staff. Crowded parking and only entrance is cumbersome to negotiate when it's a busy time!
If you enjoy the great outdoors to a technical degree this is the store for you. Of course it comes at a price but with the REI satisfaction guarantee its worth it.

My granddaughter participated in a “How to Ride a Bike” session at REI this morning. The teachers, Kevin and Ashley, were fantastic and she was riding her bike in record time. I highly recommend the lesson and the teachers.
These guys only sell quality product! Great staff, excellent in store bike shop, experts in every department. Can be pricey.

Liz was super helpful at the garage sale helping make sure that the paddle board rack attached to my car rack correctly, then this week she knew all the stats and exactly what each watch/gps tracker did best, and helped me map out and plan and gave me tips for my Grand Canyon trip. She is the best!!!

My wife and I were on our way to spend a few hours at the Half Price Book's flagship store that's across the street. (If you haven't been there - it's HUGE!)
On a whim, we stopped in so that I could do a little research on a shoe that I had in mind for a sports massage therapy client that I've been working with.
Since my client has recently switched to a standing desk at work, the most recent version of the Merrell Trail Glove is the shoe that I had in mind for him.
When we reached the shoe area at the back of the store, Bennie, a rather tall laid-back guy with glasses asked if he could be of service. Having passed all of the factors that I look for in an athletic shoe, I asked Bennie if I could try on the Merrell Trail Glove. Although I didn't like the shoe for myself, I could appreciate the way that Merrell constructed the arch. Meaning, rather than alter and restrict how my arches moved when my feet made contact with the ground, the Trail Glove allowed my arches to flex at the appropriate time (i.e., pronate).
Since the Trail Glove is completely flat, flexible, and has an adequate amount of space throughout the toe box, I felt like it would be a good fit for a client who planned on walking and standing at his desk.
A few days later, my client ended up heading over to REI to try the Trail Glove on for himself. Having dealt with lower back pain and a bout of plantar fasciitis, he loves how much different his feet feel.
Even though I didn't plan on purchasing a shoe for myself, I ended up ordering the Merrell Vapor Glove.
Right before we left, I noticed a lone pair of women's Merrells that weren't on the main shoe wall. Seeing as how this shoe had a more aggressive tread than any of the other Merrells that my wife has, we felt like the Mix Master Move Glide Trail Running Shoe was worth trying on. And that shoe turned out to be a great fit.
Having trying on a few pairs of shoes that day, my wife and I agreed that Bennie was knowledgeable (and confident). Having looked for shoes in the "barefoot" category before, I also appreciated that Bennie didn't show any bias towards any particular category of shoes.
Top quality merchandise, exceptional customer service, it's a co-op so you get money back on your yearly purchases, and their return policy is the best in the industry. That's a five star in anyone's book!

Obviously a great establishment, it’s an REI and it’s very clean and has all the best gear for any outdoor activity. Always my go to for quality products. Only caveat I had with this location is the workers weren’t really synced up with a certain area, I got asked if I needed help probably 5 times in 30 minutes and I told every one of them that I was just browsing. Could be just me, but I like to walk around a store and look without being bothered every couple minutes.
Ok I found so many things I wanted to buy. This was my first time to this location. Now granted all REIs are the same, this location was a lot easier to get to than the one that was on the 635.
I spent 2 hours and walked out $204 later but was very happy with my purchases. It was the first time I saw an indoor hammock anchor system. I bought the set for $12 and installed it within 10 minutes and used my hammock. I'm going back for two more to hang my other two.
The service is great, 3 different people asked if I needed help and 2 different guys helped answer my questions and even showed me what I was looking for.
Now it's no secret that REI prices are not the lowest but I also believe in their quality as well as the quality of the brands they carry.
One thing I didn't know is, their membership is lifetime for $20. The cashier took the time to explain it and I walked out a member.

Amazing place to gather your outdoor tools and needs and also just a fun place to explore as well as take classes with intelegent and funny instructors.
I've been a member at REI since 2009 and I have almost always had a good experience. The Dallas location is phenomenal and in my opinion, the only REI in the DFW area worth going to. They were stocked in everything I was looking for. The staff was patient and informative when fitting me for a new pack as well as new boots. For people trying to break into a new hobby, this is the best place to go. Sure you may be able to find the same product slightly cheaper elsewhere but the information and education you receive at REI is invaluable.
One of my all time favorite outdoor gear and supply stores. Though a bit on the pricey side. The New Store on N/W Hwy, is much better than the previous location. I highly recommend it.
Awesome, the only place to go for knowledgeable help with backpacking and other outdoor sports. I only pulled one start because we had trouble with someone giving my wife and daughters the wrong information on backpack sizing. It let us to order the wrong packs. Fortunately when we went back to the store for help with fitting the associate figured out what went wrong and helped us get back on track.
This place is great! Everything you'd expect from an REI: huge building, acres of parking, awesome selection, friendly, helpful staff... and kinda high prices. What I enjoyed about my visit was that they had exactly what I wanted and it didn't take long to locate, try on, and purchase. Oh and the changing rooms are some of the nicest around. Fun to just browse, too.
REI is a great place for lots of out door centric gear, from clothing to GPS devices! The membership is minimal but you get a rolling discount on all products that can be used later ( check mailed or immediate discount! Once accumulated on redeem dates!)
I enjoy it , most times a bit to pricey but I'm sure they are worth the cost.
As they say pay for quality once vs buying cheap again and again.
Adding another bad review of the shoe department, I had a poor experience last week. My salesperson was lackadaisical, darting off after each step of the process. He didn't care one bit about helping me through the process and the hiking shoes I bought will be tainted by doubts as to whether they fit as well as they should, and whether I purchased the right style. Having the correct footwear is pretty fundamental to enjoying the outdoors and you'd think that REI would try to get this right.
I mentioned the problem to the person behind the cash register. He didn't care one bit. Hence this review.
For the record, I purchased a coat and that salesperson, though a bit cold, was prompt and efficient.
I'm planning on a lot of hiking this year and I need to be outfitted for desert climates. I needed backpack, clothing, shoes, the works. I was planning on spending about $1,000 bucks but only spent about $350 because I was tired of trying to put it all together on my own. Employees are real friendly and helpful when you finally tire of wandering around on your own and you go find someone to help. Others complain about the shoe department, I second that. One person was waiting on 4 customers, walked away without new hiking shoes. Don't even start me on the checkout line, always backed up. One person always on the phone with one person checking out a 6 deep line of customers. I don't think there's a lack of employees as there are always countless employees on the floor messing with displays and having a good time which I'm all for. When you want a few items and you know what you want then the service is as good as any 7-11 but with longer wait times at check out. When you go to REI I would hope to find the customer service necessary to take someone through the whole process of gearing up for a great outdoor adventure.
Everytime I come to REI, I am impressed by the knowledgeable friendly staff. The workers here have personal experience with many of the products, and that's a huge help--whether you're going on an adventure or getting a gift for someone else's adventure. Today I bought a headlamp. There were tons of choices! The young man that helped me told exactly why he chose the one he uses. It wasn't the most expensive, but his insight have me confidence in my choice. Well done!
It's REI, they pretty much have everything for the outdoors you need, and a ton of things you don't need lol. I wish they carried more bicycle brands, but I don't really go here for that sort of thing. The only downside is their prices have gone up up up since i started going here 20 years ago. I mean north face and Colombia used to be relatively cheap brands, and now their stuff has high end prices. I think that has more to do with the outdoor industry in general though, not really rei fault. That said, this place is pretty great for outdoor needs, especially for Dallas.
Great place! Helpful, knowledgeable assistance. Associates are happy to take the time to help educate you about the pros and cons of different products and strive to understand how and why you need a particular item.
REI has always been a great store. They put a lot of thought into the design of each store, which makes for an enjoyable visit. They also have a nice selection of items to browse, both gear and clothing.
That said, you will be paying full retail price unless you visit during a sale, have some type of coupon, or are a Co-op member that receives annual rebates based upon purchases.
Disappointed by all the security devices on all the items. Frustrating when you want to compare or read the backs of packaging to see if item has or does what you want. Not worth the hassle to customers for the little theft prevention it gains them. And it takes forever to find somebody to open, unlock or ge item for you. Then they put it behind the counter... you continue your shopping and you forget the very item you went there for. They need a better system like giving you a number or widget or something to remind you and the staff you have items behind the counter.
Great store, a little high and bike selection is a little novice, but great outdoors store. Also, they have awesome events and co-op opportunities

I found a jacket I wanted and was told at the register that I couldn't buy it unless I was a member of the co-op. That cost $20. HA! Forget it, there are plenty of places to get the same products cheaper without being gouged for an extra 20 bucks!
Terrible service! I looking for a winter snow pant there was nobody on the floor to help me. I standing around for least 20 minutes before I got the shoe guy to help me out. Last time will be showing at REI. I am a REI member lol.
Incredible selection of high-quality outdoor gear with top-notch customer service.
The sale table this past weekend had great deals on shoes. Pair of MERRELL hiking boots were $74 (no visible defect whatsoever), listed for $130. Reps were knowledgeable and had great suggestions as my original choice of Vasque boots was not available. The checkout front desk associates were NICE & FRIENDLY.

Not impressed. Overpriced. Asked about the weight rating of a basic climbing carabiner, and two different associates could not answer even after being given time to research. They don't know anything except what's on the outside of the exterior labeling of their products.
Definitely did not get the impression that anyone knew anything about the gear they sell, the activities they promote, or they customer base they serve. Felt like a really expensive Walmart sporting goods department.

well I can honestly say that I will NEVER go back here. their website sent me on a wild goose chase for an item that the website said was in stores but wasnt. even more so when I called other stores to ask for a confirmation that it was actually there, they said they didnt know because they didnt trust their own system! this is absolutely pathetic! thanks for wasting my day REI!
Went back as expected to purchase base and thermal layers for upcoming skiing trip. While I recognize the quality of the products is excellent, I wish the prices were more reasonable. I may look for other places that are more affordable.
Good selection of outdoor equipment from bicycles to camping gear to hiking and other outdoor gear. This store seems to have a more extensive bicycle department than other stores. Staff is quite friendly and helpful.

Even though there is an REI 15 miles closer to me, I always find myself traveling from Denton to Dallas to visit this one. The associates are always hustling & bustling, exceedingly friendly, & super helpful. From my Cotopaxi windbreaker to these Salomon X-Mission 3's to my Patagonia daypack, everything I've purchased from REI has stranded the test of time, wind, dirt, & climbing. Their Co-OP Garage Sales are ideal for folks like me looking for a more affordable steal. I love REI forever & ever, they'll always be my go-to for adventure accessories.
I sincerely appreciate the employees at this location and have never had an off experience. I typically come in with reasearch already done and know what I’m looking for. Yes, can be pricey but coop yearly dividend is a nice perk and I like having a physical location for the type of gear I need.
The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable! Malea went above and beyond to help my friend and I find the perfect pair of hiking boots. Shopping here is more than just buying what you need, these folks really make it a great experience!
Extremely helpful staff. Been a co-op memebr for many years. When I'm looking for high quality outdoor gear and want to get my hands on it before buying, i go to REI.
This particular REI is fairly large and carries most anything one would need related to the outdoors. Good selection of backpacks, boots and bikes along with pretty good prices on their merchandise as well. This is my favorite REI in the DFW area, always helpful staff and a has fairly large parking lot which makes getting in and out of a breeze.
Nick and Leah were basically our personal shoppers and educated us well beyond any online informational guide for our first backpacking trip. Absolutely worth the time and cost to do this right versus buying garbage off amazon and having no idea what we are doing. My new favorite store.
I have always had wonderful experienes with staff at REI on NW Highway next to Half Price Books in Dallas. Bought a pair of hiking shoes for $125 00. At checkout I asked the cashier if this purchase would be applied to my membership...or if there were any membership deals I could take advantage of. I have paid for membership...have not received any benefits. The cashier explained there is a $20 savings card for new members...but for some odd reason...I don't get one because they only offer it at certain times. I was not satisfied with this explanation. It seemed she was just trying to get me out the door rather than explain why some new members get the discount and others don"t. She became short with me to the point of getting angry. I am just trying to understand how the membership works. I thought she was rude...and she did not say thank you. Very dissatisfied with checkout experience....to the point I will probably speak to store manager about the experience next time.
Going to Canada in Sept and I was so lost on what to buy. First time visiting is a bit overwhelming but everyone is so knowledgeable and helpful! Mardi was the best!!! She broke everything down so I would understand what I needed as a novice for hiking. From picking the right boots to what clothing I should wear. I was so impressed I became a member same day!
I come here for most of my climbing gear mostly because they offer a rewards program and also for the fact that they tend to stock with quality products rather than cheap stuff that breaks on you. Theyre great with returns and have just about everything you need for any outdoor activities and if they dont, they know how to find you what you need and where to go for it.
Hopefully, most people don't expect a store/company to be perfect. Just to respond well when mistakes happen. Attended the members garage sale today and could have come away leaving a negative review. Fortunately I took a few minutes to speak with Bruce (the store manager) who was extremely helpful and showed that he definitely values his company's reputation and his customers. Problem solved and I'm still a happy REI customer....for life!
Today we and our kids took part in the “How to Ride your Bike” class that’s offered fairly regularly. Allison and Benny our instructors were awesome!! My older daughter who I’m confident just needed instruction from someone besides Dad, improved dramatically in just the two hours spent at the class. I highly recommend the class and was impressed with Allison and Benny’s rapport with my kiddos. Thanks REI
Very disappointed in REI’s service today. I came in just to buy a sports band to go for a quick run since I’m visiting from out of town. There was a garage sale going on so the line went to the back. I just wanted to get in there and out quickly, was told by a representative to go to the bike shop. The bike shop guy was helping another family out and allowed them to make a purchase. He then told me he got them because they were together but couldn’t help me. I told him just to help me out as I wanted to go on a run before it started raining again and he said I have to wait in that 40min line although I wasn’t there for the garage sale. Very disappointed and now I’m headed to target to buy a quick sports band. Bad on you REI Dallas.

If I could give this store and staff no stars I would. Used to love coming to this place until I actually realized that it is definitely a class and racial thing here. None of the employees ever acknowledge my husband and I while shopping here. We genuinely love the products they sell and tend to buy often but after our recent visit this past Sunday, I will definitely not be shopping here. It literally took almost 20 minutes for us to be acknowledged in the shoe department only because we simply went to ask for help. Obviously the staff will only help those who are not of the minority race. Minorities can also afford things at REI just an FYI.
Love the retailer and employees - good gear, decent selection with great advice I trust; prices are generally NOT good and they don't price match anything/anyone. Sale prices are within reason, generally within the ballpark of other online retailer pricing on some items but usually not when you need that item, so you do have to be patient and bide your time to strike when the deal is available (but that's just about any brick and mortar retailer).
Minus 1 star: Despise the location due to traffic. Webb chapel was a far better location, easier to see/find with superior access to/from. I almost never go to the physical store in Dallas because it's such a pain where it is. The other location was a weekly destination and purchase process for 1 scout activity or another and I sent most of my church and troop there, now I go maybe once every 2 years if I REALLY have to and we generally buy at another outfitter more regularly because basically it's less hassle to find and get in/out.
Overall: Still a decent company to do business with even though they've significantly lowered their warranty coverage (but that's mainly because some unscrupulous customers took advantage of them to the point of unreasonable warranty claims-so who's fault is that really. That's why we can't have anything nice.). :)
One of the worst customer experiences of my life!!!
I decided to give REI another try, since I haven't been to one in years(way too expensive). I went in because it was convenient on a bicycle ride to my mom's. Almost a 20 mile ride. I was initially impressed with the customer service. Very nice and knowledgeable girl. Also impressed when I was told they would install a new rear tire while I waited. I know shops are overwhelmed with repairs lately. When I was ready, I triple checked status and stock, and was assured all was good to go. Got off early to make sure I arrived in a timely manner. Upon arrival, I was again assured of all the confirmations I had made. Then, it started. An employee went to the back to find the right tire at the quoted price, which was $20 for the tire, and $10 for labor. Total, $30. I am very financially challenged these days, and on an extremely limited budget, I had to save up to get this done. Employee returns with a $58 tire. When I reiderate my original quote, I'm told now that it's not available. I came prepared with a cushion, so I tried to be patient and work with them. We finally find something I can cover. BUT WAIT......"You have to pay for a tube as well". I voiced my issues to another employee on the way out, and promptly went to a locally owned mom & pop shop. They promptly changed my tire at the exact price they had previously quoted me.

I appreciate all the efforts they put into place for making shopping safe during covid. They were limiting people in the building and wiping down after each guest at the check out! Way to go! Never felt safer

My husband and I spent our first time in REI today. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with friendly faces! My husband needed climbing shoes and Armando came up to help us answer all the questions! He was so knowledgeable, friendly, and kind. He helped us find the perfect shoe and even explained when to transition to the next style. We will definitely be back to see him, and the whole crew at the Dallas location, but I felt it was needed to give him a shout out! He is definitely one of the most helpful employees we’ve ever encountered and helped us make the right purchase!
I came here to buy a bike in June and have made several visits since then. I brought my bike in to get looked at as it wasn’t dropping gears properly. I got it back about a month later and it shifts fine . Now my gears slip under load though. I’ll probably be going somewhere else closer to home to have it looked at. Staff all around is very helpful though and tries to resolve any issues or questions I have.
Loved this store, came across it when I went to half priced books. You can find anything you need for an outdoor adventure.
Went to learn about backpacks and was not disappointed. Jace spent the better part of an hour with us explaining features, brands, warranties, and most importantly sizing. I'm always tempted to shop online, but the value added by the employees at this store keeps me coming back.
Good experience here, store was really clean and has a lot of really high quality products. Of course the prices are high but they are high quality and you get what you pay for. I was hoping to scope out some the new Vuori products but they didn't have a huge selection, it's a small brand so I didn't expect a huge section anyway. Some good deals on the shoes in the clearance section.
