SoCo is a full service Southern Fusion restaurant concept in Brooklyn, NY. SoCo is equal parts restaurant and cocktail bar. Upon entering you are met with a 20 foot bar anchored by structural beams used to support the 6 story building, casual dining spaces and an elevated DJ booth. Toward the rear is a more formal dining environment with an elevated banquet that doubles as a performance space for bands. The designer Andres Aladin, describes the restaurant as ?the Brooklyn Bridge turned into a restaurant. We wanted to play off of the design cues of the space and the history of the neighborhood being very industrial. There is a lot of steel in here and most of it has been locally sourced (like around the corner locally). The hard steel is balanced by warm walnut walls and charming exposed brick making the place feel like home. The trick in designing this space was to keep it relaxed enough for casual lunches but sexy enough for dinner dates. I think we achieved our goals.? ? The menu at SoCo is Southern Fusion, a new cuisine yet to make its mark on the New York dining scene. The group describes southern fusion as a mixture of cajun/creole, barbecue and soul food dreamt up with everything else you can imagine. The goal of the menu, executed by Chef Kingsley John, is to stay true to the flavors of southern food, yet experiment and break all misconceptions about the genre.

$14 bottomless for Saturdays only. Already didn't like it. Came here with friends who raved about the red velvet waffles and fried chicken. I had the omelette with sausage and potatoes. The potatoes were really great. I had one mimosa which was also good. I did try the Mac n cheese which was pretty good. I would say there are better southern food places around.
Made a reservation via open table for Tuesday brunch, and was one of the first customers of the day. I guess reservations are necessary on the weekends, but on the weekdays, there are plenty of seats. We had the option of sitting inside or outside, and opted to enjoy the beautiful day. It wasn't exactly outside since there was a clear covering on top incase of rain. Our waiter was superb and awesome. We ordered the red velvet waffle with fried chicken and mac & cheese. WIth the yelp check in, you get a complimentary cornbread. It was really good and because we were so hungry, we scarfed it down really fast. I ordered a sangria, but it wasn't your typical sweet sangria. The waiter let me sample some since it's usually a hit or miss. But I really liked the taste of the lemongrass and thyme infused wine. Also they have happy hour throughout the day, so the sangria was only $6 instead of $8!
I originally wanted to come here to try their red velvet waffles, but once I had a bite of their mac & cheese, it was hard to stop. The red velvet waffles were a bit too soft for my liking. I prefer waffles to be a bit more cooked/hard? The syrup was infused with some alcohol and you can definitely taste it. The fried chicken was okay. The mac & cheese was the best dish. If you come here, you MUST get the mac & cheese. Although it's a bit heavy, its worth every bite. We ended up taking some to go along with the fried chicken. Our waiter came by to check up on us ever so often and was so courteous.
Parking in the area can be a little hectic since it's on a relatively busy street, but along the side streets you can find some free parking!
Chicken and waffles were delicious. Everyone one in my group enjoyed ALL of their food. We had shrimp and grits, shrimp salad, and caesar salad at the table. I can't wait to try all of the items on the menu.
This spot had been bookmarked for months and I was excited about trying the food after reading all the rave reviews. I ordered the chicken and waffles that were really good. I also ordered a side of the $9 mac and cheese based on the rave reviews from yelp and was greatly disappointed. The mac and cheese was truly a let down and waste of money. The ambience of the restaurant is cool and the staff were friendly. Prices were affordable and I would return and wont touch that mac n cheese.
I'm sitting in a faraway place out there in NY state, a place they call Long Island. I will not be having this. Long Island is a far departure from the hectic busy life of Manhattan, so I drove long and far to get to Brooklyn and get me some classic chicken and waffles.
SoCo is a trendier version of Roscoe's. When Roscoe's gives you big plate, bit portions, SoCo gives you big plate and not-as-big portions. No matter, the food was pretty delicious. I had the staple, the popular, the legendary:
-=-Buttermilk Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles-=- $18. Good, expensive, but unique. Who will not bow down to Red Velvet waffles. It was soft, but lightly not-overly sweet. The chicken on top was really the highlight here though. It was not oily at all for something fried. There is a definite emphasis on the "buttermilk" part of the name. The chicken meat itself was soft and went down pretty easily despite the constant food gorging of my NY trip.
Maya was my server at the bar, and she was attentive for the most part at during the busy hour that I was there. She offered the Mother's Milk Beer on tap which was a good compliment to my meal. Hell, beer is good with anything. If you find yourself in Brooklyn and don't want to make the hours-long wait at Grimaldi, check this place out.
cute little restaurant that has a pretty backyard, fairly pricy compare to other places next to school, but worth it, nicely decorated. one of my favorite is waffle and chicken, their specail red waffe is really tasty with maple syrup.
Good food, but noisy.
My favorite. Amazing Red velvet waffles and Mac and cheese. Phenomenal.
Chicken and red velvet waffles was amazing. I would love to come back again
This place is amazing! My friend and I came in on a Tuesday afternoon. It was empty, so we didn't know what to expect.
The decor and lighting are perfect, modern contemporary, industrial, and clean. The bathrooms are clean with candles lit and the shared sink uses fresh Dr. Meyers soap.
There were so many delicious food choices that my friend and I decided to order two things and share. We got the braised short rib and the mac and cheese. That was heaven on earth. The short rib was completely tender and flavorful. The mash potato and gravy was creamy.
And the mac and cheese, the mac and cheese took me back home to mom's kitchen.
The bartender was great and attentive. They had a great selection of wine and craft beer.
Members of the staff occasionally stopped by and asked how we were doing. It's a fun place and a delicious meal.
Brunch was delish! Had the grits with chicken andouille sausage entree. Mimosas were refreshing. Love the atmosphere
I have been a couple of times.... The last visit made me a bit weary about coming again. The server Larry (name check) was terrible! Just AWFUL. The food was good, flavors are amazing but would have been great if the order came correctly. We got our food, OUR FOOD, before our drinks. He was not attentive or apologetic or anything. Just terrible!
The shrimp poboy not all that great however the fried chicken and Red Waffles was by far the best I've had. The mac and cheese was good also a different taste
My first experience was amazing! The customer service was great and the waiter was very patient. I almost changed my order 3 times because everything looked so good and the waiter was willing to change it each time lol. I had creole gumbo, Carolina shrimp rolls and f-que wings as my appetizers. Everything came out hot and all of it was good!! My drink was the blueberry house lemonade... authentically delicious! My main course was the chicken and red velvet waffle. I usually don't eat stuff like that but had to try it because the whole restaurant seemed to be eating it (restaurant specialty). Speechless! Let's just say I'll be back next week! My girlfriend had the pecan crusted pork chops with collard greens and mashed potatoes which was really good as well. So honestly I don't think you can go wrong eating there. By the way there was this guy playing the violin to different beats. Very talented and created a very soothing atmosphere. Go and enjoy yourself people, YOU'RE MISSING OUT!
My first experience here was AWESOME! I normally don't order fried chicken at most places due to being partial to how my family makes it, however after much convincing by my group (and even our waiter!) I decided to give the red velvet waffles and organic fried chicken a chance... And man.... That was a wise decision. Soco does an excellent job with this dish, and I will hopefully be back in the near future to experience it again!
They did an excellent job in making the chicken and waffles. It was very, very close to mine & that's why I give that a five star. The atmosphere was beautiful and the service classy.
1st time which was spring 2014 it was great! Food was excellent, drinks were on point and the service was good. 2nd time which was last night was HORRIBLE!!!! We got the white sangria that tasted like dirty dish water, the food was cold and my chicken was overcooked and dry. Not only that, I couldn't recognize what part of the chicken it was. The waitress was rude after we told her we didn't like the sangria and sent it back. She rudely asked "What's wrong with it and what don't you like about it?" Bottom line is I will not be going back. At least not on my dime.
It's always a wonderful experience every time I visit soco. I remember one time they had someone playing the violin beautiful I wish I had that person at my wedding
Red velvet waffles was nothing but red coloring.
Customer service horrible!
Added tip without my consent which is illegal!
Really deserves a big fat zero. Highly disappointed.
Sorry but I tried to like the food here. Ordered 3 different entrées that's how much I tried after listening to ppl rave about this place. Shrimp jambalaya, red velvet waffles and chicken and something else I can't remember. Jambalaya wasn't good at all. Waffles didn't taste like anything special, chicken was lacking that southern kick. The other thing I can't remember, we'll that speaks for itself. Maybe I'm just being harsh. I eat out a lot and critique heavily because I know what I like. You should still try it. Different folks, different strokes. Customer service was bad, waited forever for the order and drinks weren't too good either. This is in comparison to other places I've been.
Currently waiting for chicken and waffles. Order was taken 45 minutes ago. Waitress is rude. No southern hospitality here. Will update post if food is on point.
SoCo truly set the standard for me for what a great restaurant in New York should be. I went here for my birthday and everything was absolutely perfect. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and I'm still dreaming about it today lol. Everyone in my group ordered a different entree and I can honestly say as someone who works in a restaurant that I was impressed. Not only was the food fantastic, but the drinks were as well. We didn't have a reservation but they were very accommodating. We sat fairly quickly and had great service throughout the night. By the end of the meal we had asked the chef to come over so that we could thank him for the wonderful experience and he was very nice. Definitely one of my favorite spots in New York period.
I absolutely loved this restaurant! I wish there was one back home in Chicago. The food was lovely and the drink were lovely as well. Wonderful customer service and the waiters were very attentive!! Everyone needs to visit this place at least once.!!! You'll be glad u did!
However they are a bit expensive but the atmosphere and cleanliness of the restaurant was well worth the price!
Had the short ribs last night, seriously magnificent! Also, the music was creating a great ambiance and our waiter Robert was super friendly. Will definitely go again soon!
I don't know why I've never heard of this place but it's incredible and I believe Black owned. The atmosphere is great and the food is amazing. I don't usually take pictures of my food but you just have to!
I dined at Soco on A Tuesday evening and to my suprise it was pretty packed. We chose to be seated in the outdoor part which was pretty cute but it was a limited space so if you like room then the outdoor part is not for you. They really had some interesting cocktails on the menu. We ordered fried oysters which really good but not worth the price to me. I had the red velvet waffles with fried chicken which was a big portion of food. Me and my friend end up sharing a side of macaroni & cheese which was the best damn mac n cheese I've had on planet earth. Definitely considering going there again.
The service was awesome.....especially our server Robert. The food was very good as well. The BBQ chicken which included of string beans and mash potatoes was awesome. The squash ravioli was also amazing.
I visited this restaurant for the chicken and red velvet waffles. By chance I ordered the cheese grits, and they were spectacular. The wine choices were also quite impeccable.
First time here and I will definitely be back. The food was good, the ambiance was better. I would highly recommended going, very cultured and professional. The drinks could be a bit stronger. My wife had the lobster and stake special for Valentine's day , I wouldn't recommend the meal because lobster you will literally finish it in two bites and for the price, it's a ripoff. Everything else was great.
Yesterday was my first time visiting this restaurant and it was amazing. I had the red velvet waffles and buttermilk fired chicken. A place to visit if you want to be around a young professional Brooklyn crowd. The hospitality reminded me of what you'd expect further down south. I enjoyed the selection of hip hop music that you never get to hear in most public locations.
Loved their mac and chesse. It's to die for. Chicken and waffles is great. The staff is kind and friendly.
I like this place for the vibe and the food but it is a bit pricey, almost unnecessarily so. There are certainly other great food options more reasonably priced. I also went there one evening and there were only a few diners so most of the tables were available. We still had a 15-20 minute wait only to be seated at a table that we saw was available all along. That was a little frustrating because they never did explain why there was a wait.
Environment, food, drinks and service are absolutely amazing! Love sitting out in the back. Their Mac and cheese is heaven. Take advantage of their brunch menu and bottomless mimosas!
We visited this restaurant on my bday weekend and I will sum up our visit. We waited for at least an hr to be seated. Once seated we waited another 15min to finally we stopped someone and told them our waiter hasn't been by. Then I order a $5 glass of lemonade and ice tea without ice, They bring a smaller than normal glass with ice out. I ask what was that, said because I got it mixed it came in that glass but would bring me a normal size glass out. Brings out normal size glass with ice. I send that back once again requesting no ice. Final time, they bring back Normal glass half full. Petty much. I said I was fine and would just drink water. Your prices are way to high for your portion size, You need to Cut It! Your service wasn't up to par, you need to Cut It! Especially since your food wasn't all that, you need to Cut It!!! We also ate at Amy Ruth's. They were swamped as well but it was a totally different experience!!! Amy it is any time I am in the NYC!!!!
Excellent place! Enjoy the whole ambience. We had the Fried Chicken with Red Velvet Waffles and it was wonderful. Fried Chicken season right and fried to perfection! Mac and cheese was to die for! They had a violinist that played hip hop which was fantastic! I can't wait to go again!
Sigh......Soco is a fond memory of what it once was.
I've been a patron for many years and it sadden me to say R.I.P. Tho the decor and the service is still up to par, the food has lost its flavor. The steamed mussles in habanero cream with Andouille is not up to par as well as a host of other dishes. I really hope they rekindle the magic that once was Soco, but until then I gracefully bow in remembrance.
Arrived at the restaurant, post my son's graduation ceremony, around 2:15 pm. reservation was for 11 people 9 people came, waited for half hour to be seated. Finally at 3:20 we were seated. Waiter came and asked about water ($5.00 a bottle) and drinks. as previously stated by other reviewers the price of the drinks and the glass the drinks come in. Rip off in the highest order. BYOB!!!!!! Ask for tap water.
Orders were placed and we waited and waited and waited. Other diners came got their meals, ate and left and others were seated, but my table, waited and waited and waited. 2 hours for food, we ate the appetizers and digested it and was still waiting on the main course. Finally food came and it was a let down. Portion size ridiculous, cold, tasteless and lets not forget one dish was under cooked and the waited actually tried to convince us it was cooked. the only thing that actually came to the table that was good was the mac and cheese. the tables around us got their food in a timely fashion, Our waiter was Houdini most of the time, other waiters were helping us, serving us, As per him, he was cooking our food?!?!?!?!?
Then the manager came and said he will adjust the bill, only to go pay the bill and the cashier doing their own thing, we had to go back 3 times before the adjustments were actually implemented.
This was an awfull experience, I know we were in a gentified neighborhood and maybe this is acceptable to the gentified people but this whole experience was distasteful and disgusting,
No I will not be recommending this restaurant nor will I be returning,
I've been to Soco a couple time, once for my birthday and the other with a group of friends. Each time was for brunch and i ordered the mac and cheese, jerk chicken and the red velvet waffle and fried chicken, all very delicious dishes. I throughly enjoyed the food but the highlight was the waiter Aaron. He was very polite, eloquent, he checked on us frequently. Even as the restaurant became busy, he would still check in. Can't wait to go back.
The red velvet waffle was the best, fried chicken was cooked to perfection, well seasoned, great balanced of flavor and nice color to it. The staffs are nice and helpful. Overall great food and atmosphere was load back and cool. Great for all ages.
We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Sunday. Got there at 12:15 (they opened at 12) and it was ALREADY completely full, we waited 5 minutes before the staff was kind enough to let us turn one of the waiting tables into a table to eat. Our server Rob was super sweet and he gave us cornbread while we waited! The plates were a decent size, but they are overpriced. The atmosphere is really noisy and it's so crowded, with people waiting inside and out for a table. Would come back again at a slower time and order something different.
A little bit pricey but several solid quality soul food options. I LOVED this place. I would eat there more often if I found something a little less expensive.
I can't wait to go back. I love the ambiance people and cuisine. The buttermilk fried chicken and red velvet waffles is a must try.
BOO...I visited this place 2 years ago and I really liked the place. I went here this evening with my God Mother and we were told no hats, this includes women to! My God Mother wore a hat for a reason. What bothers me about this rule is you have women out here that have medical issues, suffer from hair problems, you have women that may want to wear a hat rather than a wig. Because they have cancer or maybe a cancer survivor. So this bussines pretty much is saying that people should disclouse there medical issues to enter this establishment if you have a hat on especially women. Shame on this place I would never go here or recommend family, friends or co-workers to go here.
Soco is fantastic! I came in for brunch with 2 friends and we had a great time doing the unlimited mimosas. Our waiter, Aaron, kept our glasses filled for the whole hour! We had the free corn bread because we checked in with Yelp, and the mac and cheese to start. Both amazing. We also had the chicken and red velvet waffles, the crawfish eggs benedict, and the sweet potato pancakes.
A friend of mine referred me to this spot. She lives in Brooklyn, I came to New York from Philly to celebrate my birthday and I Loved this place! The Ambience is amazing, the music definitely matched. Post Birthday Brunch and our waiter Aaron was the best. The entire staff was friendly and on top of everything. From water, to clearing the table. Will definitely be back.
I had the opportunity to finally visit here today after talking about it for months! Totally worth the trip and wait. Amazing atmosphere, great vibes and excellent customer service. Food was delicious and quick! Can not wait to come back again!
Came here for brunch. The red velvet waffles were excellent.
Doesn't have the same vibe as your typical trendy brunch spot.
My first date with my babe was here....For that reason I love it. The food was ok. Nothing spectacular about the food. I was more impressed about my date than the food 4/23/16
Was there this evening around 5:40pm. I arrived early for my 6pm reservations through Open Table and was seated right away. I ordered the red velvet waffle and chicken. The waffle wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The chicken was fried perfectly but tasted ok. Should have went for the lobster, shrimp and grits dish small but delicious was all I remember a few years ago when I ordered it then, even the mac n cheese and collared greens were good back then. Looking for another red velvet waffle and chicken experience.
The Mac & cheese and chicken and waffles are o so good. Do not regret my bday lunch here.
Those ribs! Everything delicious! Staff friendly. Beautiful atmosphere.
Amazing food, fun atmosphere and divine drinks. If you have a group make sure to make reservations excuse you will not be seated until your entire party is there. The staff is super friendly and brunch there was a highlight. Make sure you like the people you are dining with because it is cozy. The white cheddar grits with shrimp and lobster, their famous red velvet waffle with fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and cornbread were all nothing short of heavenly. If you are in the tequila mood delve into the he Hibiscus Agave Margarita you won't be disappointed.
Went here after the nets game. Has an "A" rating from the city. Ordered ( Sunday brunch-all day) herb flank steak - a little tough, but delicious and cooked perfectly, lobster and shrimp grits ( fabulous), mac n cheese ( yummy) , fish n chips ( very good), and red velvet waffle with fried chicken ( delicious)! WAit staff was very good and friendly. A total recommend! They have an enclosed patio that is heated also. Really enjoyed this place. Cocktails good too!
Expensive but tasty food. Creative and delicious cocktails. The chicken and waffles are really good but the chicken has bones in it. Good Happy Hour till 6pm Very romantic interior and backyard
My first time was a Great time...From the time I walked in everything was unbelievable. ...Food was worth another trip from Queens...The people worked it out from the time I walked in the door..
If you would like what I got today..Please go enjoy the ride...Your mouth will...
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. The menu has recently gone through an upgrade, and so has management. Nonetheless, The quality of food, has remained perfect. The flavors, spices of the dishes I've eaten are savory, give me a nostalgic feeling of when I use to visit my Big Ma in South Carolina and eat her delicious southern traditional recipes. Some of the dishes also remind me of my wanderlust visits to the Caribbean. The menu gets me as a foodie, Chef, and my cultural roots. Brunch is by far one of thee best options I've experienced. If you're in Brooklyn come by! My daughter Loves this place too. We do a lot of Mommy daughter, dinner dates here. In fact, my whole family loves this restaurant. As for servers, I've only had one energetic encounter with one of the Servers, who seems to be very distant, but in observing, he may consider himself being extremely focused on his job. Though he can stand to be a bit more attentive to the folks he's serving. Other than that, the staff, servers are always accommodating.
The food is tasty. I could not finish my macaroni pie, and it was amazing. Service was great! The waiter greeted us with a smile and held conversation after the orders were placed. He sold the food. Therefore we knew what we were going to get after he explained the menu.
Long wait, from seating to service. I watched others come in, after myself and were seated. The host forgot us. when we were finally seated there were 3 empty tables in same area. The music and drink (Brooklyn Bellini) were great but the service was poor.
This has got to be one of my favorites for all you can drink brunch. Definitely get the chicken and waffles or do what I do which is get something else and convince your spouse to get the chicken and waffles. Then you get the best of both worlds. Unlimited is for a couple hours depending on how busy it is. Try to avoid the church rush. Come early.
Amazing atmosphere! Amazing ambiance! Everything about this restaurant is amazing! I love eating here and the violin is like vanilla ice cream on a chocolate cake!😚
It was cool but I've had better. Wanted the chicken & grits with shrimp added, butt that wasn't possible, neither was getting a different entree with a pancake or waffle ADDED (for extra charge, not as a whole new entree). I ended up going with the chicken and red velvet waffle which was okay. The chicken was hot and fresh, but the waffle came out room temperature and was kind of bitter in taste. I've had at other places and they usually have some kind of cream cheese drizzle or something sweet to balance out the bitterness from the red dye. The only thing is really had going for it was ambiance which was dope.
The short ribs are superb and well worth a late night visit. Friendly staff, great chef. One thing bring back the Carolina Shrimp Roll.
Delivers well on the comfort food. My favorite mac n cheese, with a unique garlicky flavor. Other favorites include the pecan crusted pork chop and fried chicken and red velvet waffle. Not my favorite beer/cocktails, and it us often crowded.
The food was fine however if it is your first visit and your unaware they do not bill separately and it is a restaurant policy. It's fine if it's the policy but ask customers if they are aware of it in a group before they start ordering food especially when they ask for separate checks in the beginning instead of ignoring the request. The manager was nasty about the request and never said it was store policy but that simply it would be on one check with attitude. Finally the waiter explained it was store policy.
Excellence in everything! Customer service, food, drinks, atmosphere. The wings are absolutely melt in your mouth fantastic. Mac and cheese....no words. I almost cried how delicious it was. Steak with the garlic butter cooked and taste to perfection. My new favorite spot!
Nice location. Restaurant is beautiful. You and coming soul food restaurant. The lobster shrimp and grits were wonderful. The tomatoes and okra almost made me slap my momma. Lol no really she was with me. I Need to go back to try more things on the menu when I return to Brooklyn.
Went there yesterday for brunch, for the first time. The chicken and waffle was very good and so were the pickled oysters. Nice looking place. However, the a/c was not on and was very stuffy, warm and waaay too loud. Even the couple next to us was saying the same. It was very busy and the only table they had was right by the entrance which was no problem. The only problem was that behind us was a counter and stools and physically impossible for the waiter to attend/serve these people because three tables were in the way. Terrible set up. Water was served with no ice. Our waiter was nice however was missing most of the time.
I will say maybe they were understaffed for such a big brunch crowd. I will give it another try and maybe see improvements.
Excellent customer service. The location and relaxed, but trendy ambience make for a great date night. I had a great time and while the conversation was plentiful before dinner came out, no one said a word while we ate.
I had the steak frites. It was juicy, cooked to perfection and left me very satisfied. Everyone in our group was happy.
Great atmosphere. Good food. Good service. The food was not 'amazing' per se - I has the blackened salmon and I felt it needed more seasoning. I also tried their wings. They were nice but I wish they were a bit more moist and flavoursome inside. It was mainly covered in their sticky sauce which tastes good - the chicken just needed to be more moist and seasoned inside.
Would still recommend to go - their fried chicken and red velvet waffles looks delightful.
The drinks are good but and a small amount of glass for 18$. Food is good as well , they barely have vegetarian options... I came in the summer and it was freezing in here but the boss was nice enough to talk to us and turn down the AC. Good environment, nice decor, good food.. would say they need work on there drinks (amount and price) but drinks tasting wise is good.
Their food here is amazing. The vibe is definitely great the music is good it is always crowded here so please make a reservation if your not sitting at the bar. Great place for birthday dinners, graduation dinners, etc. My favorite food is the F-Que Wings and the Mac and cheese. The staff here is extremely friendly and the manager is always available greeting and seating guest that come in. On Wednesday there is happy hour the whole entire day at the bar including some appetizers.
Good food. Lively crowd. The drinks were strong 😁😁
A little too tight for comfort sitting.
It was shoulder to shoulder at the dining tables. And the stools were so close together that you could actually rub hips with the person who sat besides you 🙄 awkward
Good food and atmosphere but slow service. It took about 25 minutes for my food to arrive. I ordered the wings, mac and cheese, and collard greens. Collards were mediocre and they wouldn't take them off my tab. Had a great cocktail with whiskey and strawberry puree.
If you like macaroni and cheese and you are reading this review thinking about going to Soco, stop reading and go immediately.
The entire menu is very tasty. My favorites are the wings and the ribs. The macaroni + cheese is also out of this world.
Soco has all day happy hour on Wednesdays. Food specials at the bar only include wings and the Mac and cheese but honestly that’s all you need! The rest of the week happy hour is from 12pm-7:30pm
Happy hour drinks are margaritas, rum punch, sangria, wines, corona and red stripe.
A handful of TVs to watch sports. The staff is incredibly friendly and go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and enjoying yourself.
Lucas is, hands down, an exceptional server. He is super attentive and personable. He made our dining experience most memorable and enjoyable. Thank you, Lucas! Mac and cheese is tasty. Lobster, Shrimp and Grits was so flavorful. Drinks were 💣🔥! 👌🏽
I came to Soco for our girls night out and as usual, it did not fail. Thursday night live entertainment, great food. Mussels, mac and cheese, even the green beans were on fire!
Drinks were great and the vibe was perfect. They have a doorman, awesome waiters and they aimed to please. All of this for a Thursday night?!? It was amazing. I am definitely returning. I heard making reservations is highly recommended for the weekend.
Opened for years and still impressing. Great Job!!!
Had the salmon and it was AMAZING! presentation was good. And cooked perfectly. All of the waiters/waitresses even if they weren't ours asked us how the food was and if we needed anything. I definitely would recommend it to anyone who is in the area.
I absolutely love this place! Went out on New Year's Eve with my sister and we had a great time! The food is very good! The buttermilk chicken and the Mac n cheese is a must! Great music, great vibe and the waiter Lucas was very Nice. He was dancing while serving us you guys and it was entertaining :) I can't wait to visit again.
Very trendy. Up and coming eatery in Brooklyn. Elegant. Not too pricey. Food well proportionally served. Waiter/waitresses connect with customer (s). Great ambiance.
Great location, I found parking right away out front. The wait was about 45 min for brunch on Sunday , you can sit at the bar or walk outside there's a nice art store across the street.
There's outdoor like seating in the back and family seating inside if you have a large party with you. I was a party of 2 and they had seating for us as well . Also very clean bathrooms and handicap accessible.
I ordered the Mac & cheese , red velvet waffle and fried chicken with collard greens. The waffle was EXCELLENT, the chicken was cooked very well , the Mac & cheese was just ok it wasn't flavored enough in my opinion, but it was a great value for such a huge order, our waitress was kind and attentive. It all came to about 45$ .
We came here one evening to see what the hype was about. We didn't make reservations but the wait wasn't too bad, about 20 mins. The receptionist I felt was a bit rude when we came to ask for a table.
Nonetheless, we sat down and quickly ordered our food to avoid the rush. We ordered the mac and cheese, lobster/shrimp and grits and the chicken and waffles. The mac and cheese was the highlight of the night, i did not expect such a creamy and cheesy mac. Probably one the best mac and cheeses I have had in a soul food / Cajun joint in a long time. My chicken and waffles was good but nothing beyond extraordinary. The grits were cooked well and the seafood tasted fresh. After the whole meal, the only memorable dish was the mac and cheese.
Overall, I think because we weren't greeted well, the bad taste lingered and the food didn't taste as great as we hoped.
We went there for Sunday brunch. It opens at 12pm on the dot. It's a little tight in there but they make the most of the space. The food presentation was magnificent. We had the lobster/shrimp and grits, the sweet potato pancakes and the chicken and red velvet waffles. The pancakes were just ok but everything else was exceptional. The service was good. Our waiter Rob, was attentive and kept us updated with the progress of out food. Cool spot.
Had to scour the menu for vegetarian options but the options were delicious.
The host, Maurice, was very friendly and accommodating. Other members of the staff were very friendly and professional as well. Our waitress seemed overworked and grumpy (everybody has those days)
Overall good food, good vibes, good music, REALLY good drinks. Worth checking out.
Went to Soco for Saturday Brunch and was a bit disappointed. Although the music was good it was so loud I could hardly hear my friends and we ended up yelling instead of having a nice conversation.
I ordered the Clinton Hill Omelette with home fries and side order of spinach as they would not switch out the arugula for the spinach. It was very bland and didn't see any chicken. The spinach was bland as well. My daughter ordered the Mac and Cheese and I had some which was good. She also order the Sweet Potato Pancake which she did not enjoy at all and left most of it on the plate.
Would I go back, other than the Mac and Cheese, no thank you!
Yum yum yum! I had the fried chicken sandwich it was delicious and their white cheddar grits are to die for! The best grits I've ever had. It's romantic, funky, and they also have a great drink selection! The SOCO Carmel Martini is a perfect sweet desert drink! I recommend trying it out!
It was really good, the service was great. I ordered the chicken & waffles & my boyfriend had steak Frites which was good as well. The serve I had name was Alina she was very nice always came back to ask if we needed anything . The drinks were so tasty she recommended the Brooklyn Bellini which was very good. We will definitely be back
It’s obvious that the owner put a lot of money into this business. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing. I would definitely recommend. However, because this place is so great, it gets very crowded from the time it opens. So definitely make reservations or get there super early. Lastly, they have a somewhat outdoor seating area! It was very clean and beautiful by the way.
Went for brunch. Their mac n cheese is GOOD. Creamy and filling. All that's missing is the lobster and/or bacon. The chicken and waffles (red velvet) is also pretty good. Chickens nice and crispy, and their waffles have this nice, rich cocoa flavor. It's a bit expensive, I dropped $45 for ONE meal. Low-key worth it though. The only thing I didn't like was the crowded-ness, but it's to be expected. It was brunch on a Saturday afternoon before Easter 😅
Unfortunately, the hype surround SOCO was overshadowed by the terrible service we received while dining. Our server, Crystal, was obviously disengaged and had little motivation to ensure the table was properly taken care of. She collected our order, and dropped off our drinks and was virtually unseen for the remainder of the meal. Water and food was delivered by runners. Our hush puppies appetizer was served STONE COLD. Drinks were completely empty and not offered to be refilled until the check was being printed. Asked for a side of barbecue sauce that was never delivered. Appetizer plates were whisked away by the runners while we were still eating. A mandatory 20% gratuity (which from what i understand is "tiered" with percentages changing based on how many individuals you have at the table) will drive this business into the ground. Servers lack motivation to take care of their guests and have no fear that their tips will be impacted. Too bad, because overall, the food was pretty good. Unlikely that I will return.
The service was a little bit slow but that does not mean I will change my five star review. The place is very refreshing and the food is worth the wait. The mac n cheese was definitely the best everrr.
First of, I will start by saying upon entry the Staff was incredibly hospitable and courteous. We overbooked and had a few more individuals than when we made the reservation. Thankfully, they were kind enough to get us seated without an extremely long wait for our desired area. The waiters were attentive and made sure that our experience was enjoyable. The part you are waiting for, the food is AMAZING. I have nothing else to say but go there NOW!! See for yourself definitely a nice ambiance . The service and food is consistent and never a disappointment. One of my favorites in Brooklyn. Parking is okay. You may have to circle around a bit but its not bad. The restaurant is also wheelchair accessible. For those who drink, there;s a bar with amazing people bar-tending so enjoy!
I really enjoyed my visit to Soco. The food and wait service were good. My meal was A-mazing!! I had the grits shrimp and lobster. The only reason why I am giving them 4 stars is because one of my co-workers order a red velvet Waffle with fried chicken and when asked how it was she stated it was too thick and she no longer wanted to eat it. When given an option of something else they suggested mashed potatoes and she asked for French fries and she was told she he can only substitute mashed potatoes. We didn't see the difference. You would think the French fries would have been a cheaper substitute. She was extremely upset because she really likes Soco and brought us there because of her past experience there. We all would still return, but know not to order the red velvet Waffle. Now don't get me wrong Everyone has a particular way they like their waffles.
Had a confirmed reservation at 4, got seated at 4:45 and only after a lot of contention. After being seated, waited 50 minutes to get drink order, 3 of which were completely wrong. Still waiting for food, no sides or snacks offered while we wait at all. This may once have been best brunch place in Brooklyn but definitely not now.
Wait was long but when the error was noticed the staff took care of it and the manager personally made sure we were taken care of. When the food arrived to say it was delicious is an understatement. The BEST chicken and waffles I've ever had and I've been to some popular spots. If you're in Brooklyn definitely check out soco.
This review doesn’t deserve any stars except that the waitress was extremely nice and did a great job at attending to us. My meal had a hair in it, and all I was offered from the restaurant manager was a $2 discount. The least that could have been done was that my meal was comped and to be given a sincere apology not just a $2 discount. I will not return to this establishment even if I was offered a free me.
Delicious food and kind servers. The Mac and cheese was out of this world. I would love to come back and try everything on the menu
This place gets pretty crowded for brunch. The cocktails during brunch are a little on the high side so if you like drinking bring extra cash. Chicken and waffles pretty good. If you order the Mac and Cheese do not order any other large dish with it. The Mac and Cheese is delicious and extremely fulling.
I love Soco!! Their food, their atmosphere, the love sometimes. They have the best mac and cheese. $10 for a bowl but everything every dollar. Go an eclectic experience. I've visited a few times for mother's day with my mom and sis, hanging with friends..just go. I'm on way back soon!
For the males, no sleeveless shirts allowed. Males must wear a shirt with sleeves or you will be asked politely to leave.
Second, the meals were nice. A short wait for a table but the waitress was very kind. Mac-n-cheese was always great of course. Just felt discriminated due to my attire. I was asked to go to the nearest 99 cents store to pick up a shirt.
Appetizers were amazing but chicken n waffles were aweful too much dye in the red velvet waffles. Chicken was greasy n dark meat wasn’t cooked fresh. Evil eggs were bomb! Shrimp roll was amazing. Greens weren’t seasoned. Awesome atmosphere. If I go back I’ll eat appetizers.
Nice vibe and atmosphere with pretty great food and drink options. I came here with a group for a birthday dinner, and we had a great time! The music was a little loud inside the restaurant, but luckily we were seated out back where it was a little quieter and easier to have conversation. The service was good and the place wasn't overcrowded. I will definitely be back!
I truly love this restaurant. My partner and I normally go here for our anniversary or other big events because it's so special and so amazing. If we stayed in Brooklyn we would most likely go here every day. The food is always amazing and the servers are always genuine and kind. Don't be afraid to ask them what their favorite item on the menu is. They give great advice. I can't wait to return!
I was here celebrating my birthday/on a date and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. It was my second time there so I feel confident saying their food is of consistently good quality. Our only snag was with the host (white man with a man bun is the best description I can offer), who was cold, dismissive, and unwelcoming; instead of greeting us as we came in, his first thought was to tell us that they were booked. He then walked away before we could reply and my boyfriend had to follow him, get his attention, and inform him that we did in fact have a reservation. As far as making solid first impressions, he did not meet the basic standards of a good host. Luckily, we didn't have to speak to him again and received wonderful service from our server who was kind, professional, and charming.
Nice atmosphere & staff. Sangria was tasty. The food was decent I purchased the blackened salmon. The salmon needed to soak in the seasoning a little bit more and the sweet potato mash had too much citrus in it. I did not complete my meal. However I would go again to try another dish off the menu.
This place is pretty amazing! Came for their all day brunch on Sunday and the vibe there was awesome. There was an phenomenal violinist playing the tunes that day and the crowd was feeling every song. This was my second visit and I had to get the red velvet chicken and waffles again. Couldn't have asked for more! The chicken was seasoned and cooked well, and the waffles were soft, warm and delicious. I also had the Mac and cheese, which could be a meal by itself! No complaints there. Wish they had a bottomless deal, however I like this place alot. Will be back again and again!
My second time eating here, love it. The environment is alive, happy. The service was amazing, the food delicious. I came with friends who were first timers, and they loved it too. I definitely recommend it.
I love patronizing black owned businesses but I was really disappointed by our visit tonight. I’ll say up front that no one had complaints about the food. The problem was the service.
After we’d been seated and had ordered food and drinks the hostess came over to tell my friend’s grandmother she had to remove her hat because they have a policy against baseball caps.
Who in their right mind comes over to a little old lady to tell her that her rhinestone studded hat is inappropriate dinner wear at 6:30 pm on a Sunday night??!
Is Soco really so worried about its image that it’s necessary to come and pick on an +80 year old woman to make sure she meets the dress code? And if it was that important, why weren’t we told so when we came in?
TheI experience made us all uncomfortable. If we didn’t have two senior citizens with mobility issues in our party I would have strongly suggested we leave.
(*Update: another review mentioned that there son was charged for a $6 bottle of water. Same thing happened to us.)
Thank goodness Brooklyn has plenty of other black owned restaurants for my friends and family to choose from.
Southern comfort food with a modern flare. The decor is warm and light. The music is soulful. The food is outstanding. I thoroughly enjoy and recommend Brunch. The Macaroni and Cheese is amazing. And another favorite is the Chicken and Waffles...need I say more. This place is popular so plan accordingly.
It's a nice Caribbean spot with decent spacing to sit. The layout of the restaurant is really nice along with the ambience of the restaurant. The music created a vibe that felt great to be in. The customer service was not all that great. Felt neglected due to the missing orders that was place but the food on the other hand was good. Recommended for couples and group events.
Love this place! It gets packed at night so be sure to make a reservation.. food is GREAT! 10/10 Mac and cheese is to die for . Drinks are small but strong. Very nice vibe!!
We drove from Philly just to dine at here and it was worth every bit! As I was humming eating, I thought I should have asked for something to take my plate to the next level. Little did I know it was already on my plate, "fried gouda cheese." Man oh man was it delicious. We loved food, decor and service. Now somebody tell me how to get them to open a restaurant in my up and coming neighborhood. Peace
Wow, and wow, and wow, and wow... we went for brunch, and are trying to head back for dinner before we drive back home to Boston. You walk in, and the DJ's music hits you, and you're nodding your head while you walk to your table to be seated. Amazing atmosphere, and beautiful people... but the star of the show is the FOOD! Lobster and Shrimp grits... PERFECTION. Mac and cheese... PERFECTION. Haven't had the dinner yet, but you will NOT be disappointed in the brunch. All i can say is WOW!
Good music and friendly staff. The mac and cheese is to DIE for 😋. The chicken and red velvet waffle is delicious as well. I would recommend visiting when the restaurant first opens because it can get a little crowded, but other than that it’s a good brunch spot
We went for brunch. Nice place good atmosphere. A violinist played which was a nice touch, prior to that music was a little too loud.
I had delicious french toast, and bacon. The atmosphere reminded of the Shark Bar back in the days. I liked this spot would definitely go back!!
Food was great - red velvet waffle with buttermilk fried chicken, thought $60 for 4 Long Island Ice teas was extreme 😮, tip of $45 dollars was included 😶 & that was the minimal tip, now the lounge next door was to loud, playing music i never heard of mainly old school reggae not from America like the DJ i wanted to dance but sat down forcing my nasty as drink i paid $14 for!! I should of just stayed next door at the bar 💀
I went here for my birthday a few weeks ago, on a Friday night. It was vibrant, but not too crowded. Music was great, and so was my server. I'm a southern gal, and the food lived up to the standards! I definitely want to come back again!
Food excellent, service excellent, music choice/atmosphere excellent. Go here and live your best life. Make sure to come with a reservation
The food is really good! The atmosphere is so relax and chill. My parties waitress (Krystal) was so on point and attentive on an extremely busy Saturday night. The drinks kept flowing. The lounge next door is a nice little spot to follow up with drinks and a live DJ.
Good straight ahead southern food. Not great but good. The drinks were pretty good as well. I liked the atmosphere, it was lovely and the music was good too. Space is a little tight if your at a non-booth take inside but it didn't ruin the experience.
Very good red velvet waffle and fried chicken. Drinks were good. My friend had the salmon. Needed to marinade longer for the salmon. The mac and cheese was Delish!. It got very loud with the music and everyone talking. There were young children there but it was an adult environment. To each its own. Good place for a birthday brunch for adults.
First of all our server Matt....awesome service with a smile. Great genuine personality. We went for a birthday brunch celebration, made a reservation didn't have to wait long when we got there. Three things to note
1.mandatory tip -% of meal total
2. sparkling water- not free
3. Choice of light or dark meat additional charge
Overall experience was lovely. Matt really helped make the atmosphere inviting. The chicken and waffles yummy to the core, the fish and chips omg!!!! Done to perfection. Would definitely be back.Nice location, family friendly.Music was a bit over background music volume ( if you catch my drift) but after a while your ears will get accustomed to it. Would go back.
My son took me here the Friday before Mother's Day Sunday. He made a reservation, not sure if it is required. We arrived at 6 pm, and it wasn't that...read this and 1781 more
