How would you rate Sankofa Kitchen?
Outstanding service and food. The atmosphere, and interaction between staff and patrons is unlike any other restaurant I've been to. The owner is very entertaining. The food is decently priced. The only negative, but not really, was how long it took to get our food. It was worth the wait. The food was fresh, delicious, and hot. I had the turkey burger (huge and good). Lots of vegan choices also.
First time was amazing!!! Customer service was beyond 5 Stars. First time eating a vegan meal and it was delicious and super affordable. Family oriented atmosphere and good mixture of music! Love the fact it’s black owned (no shade to other establishments). Can’t wait to go back!!!!
Hands down the best waffles I've had. I'm so happy to have a second vegan option in Oak Cliff. I had the vegan chicken and waffles, which I haven't been able to enjoy for a couple of years since becoming vegetarian, and omg it satisfied the craving I've been having. Will return. I highly highly suggest this place to everyone. It will not disappoint
I had the Turkey Burger. It was delicious! I could only eat half of it with the fries. The other half is dinner. Great service! Glad to this is the same Sankofa Family from South Dallas back in the day.😃
Just got done eating here for my first time, and it was amazing! I came here with a group of friends to try out their vegan food, and it was so good! The family who owns this establishment is so sweet and kind. I couldn't be happier with my service and food! I will definitely be back soon!
I always feel welcomed when I walk in the door. The food is always great. I love the smoothies. I love Sankofa Kitchen and will keep returning and supporting!
Excellent Service and Food. I was purchasing for my Sister who has medical concerns, the staff ( Mother of the owner) was extremely helpful in assisting on my choices. The Turkey Spaghetti with Wheat Pasta is Awesome my Sis loved it. I had the Catfish, it was very tender and flavorful. The restaurant decor is a great conversation item. Love this place definitely worth the drive from downtown,
I love it here. Every time I go, I welcomed with a smile and am able to sit wherever I like. Very homelike and good vibes here and your food comes out hot and fast.
Beautiful atmosphere, great vegan food ! I’m so glad I stumbled across this place. Customer service was great and the turn around time was pretty good for fresh, hot food ! I came during the week around noon while the establishment was pretty busy.
This is the cutest place! Its a black owned restaurant and the moment you walk in it has neo soul music, beautiful paintings of influential Black people, and just a positive vibe. Customer service was awesome! had the Turkey spaghetti and it was phenomenal. I'll definitely be back!
My name is Sharee Love . I came into sankofa because I heard great things about the veggie burger. I came in with a friend of mine we were not greeted properly. Once we set down we wasn’t comfortable at the table so we moved to a booth . My waitress was very rude it was like she had something on her mind but because we were asked asking her questions that she barley knew answers to . The other waitresses was behind the bar laughing instead of asking us did we need refills . The food was great but customer service was not in because of this I will not return to sankofa. Spirals is much better with a cozy environment.
This place was a rare find. Its located way out in South Dallas. The area is quite far from Central Dallas. It didn't seem like a bad area but it's definitely not upscale neighborhood.
The food was very good. I really enjoyed their vegan options. We tried their vegan burgers and vegan po boy, their we're very delicious. I will definitely visit again soon.
PS: the art and atmosphere is very "Soul" and "Jazz"
This place was amazing! Good food, nice atmosphere AND friendly wait staff? Yes please!
To keep it short, I could go on about how nice a place this is, but it's save you much more time to experience it yourself. Easy 5 stars.
This place is an easy 5 stars! Fresh food? Check. Good seating? Check. Health variety of food? Check. Not to mention, it's a family owned restaurant.
But don't let that cool you off. Every single one balances levels professionalism and familiarity like I haven't seen in a while.
This place IS worth your time and money.
Overall good place . Family setting. The peach mango daiquiri was delicious. They have this buffet special but it wasn’t really a buffet ... just two options to pick from (vegans) and the other frozen drinks weren’t prepared (not frozen) so I no choice but to go with the peach mango daiquiri which was DELICIOUS though.
I’m not into children with headphones on serving me my food .. I didn’t know he was apart of their business until I saw my plate . But I know he didn’t know any better.
The older woman their was gracious and kind , she continued to check on me ... she seems to be running the place.
Definitely go check it out
Ive been to this establishment a total of three times with today being the third. This place has both vegan and regular food which makes this a high selling point for my husband and I. The first two times that we came we were both pleased with our meals received. Today, however is where the deduction in stars come from. After we entered, we were promptly greeted and sat. Soon afterwards, my order was taken. At this point I was still good. My mood slowly turned sour as I watched the passed. At This point an hour had passed and all the people around us had received their food and finished it. Finally a waiter brings us our food, and the order was wrong. They brought chicken instead of the vegan chicken. Normally, I would give an establishment a chance to rectify their error, but when I had already been waiting an hour. Enough was enough. My husband and I got up and left. I regret wasting our time. We will NOT be returning.
I love place. Shrimp Po’ Boy was fantastic. Fries were some ofthe best I ever had.
I love the place, people & food. It feels like home whenever i go. Great service with a smile. Great feel & environment as well. Definitely worth your while.
Delicious vegan options, great service and in a great atmosphere! I am thoroughly impressed all the way around. The portions were very generous as well.
Great food. Wonderful decor and ambience. I felt like I was in Black heaven.
This place is wonderful!!!! The food there offers healthier food as well as vegan options. The customer service is impeccable and the best that I've experienced since I moved to Dallas and I'm a foodie!! Lastly, the vegan desserts are amazing!!! I personally love the chocolate cake, which is vegan, and absolutely delicious!!! I can't rave enough about this place because it's the best!!! I highly recommend that anyone reading this to try Sankofa Kitchen because you will NOT be disappointed. A+++++ reading if you ask me!!!
It takes time for good healthy delicious vegan eats. What I do know is, the family staff were definitely on it trying to make their patrons welcomed and waited on. We are always all over supporting Our People and this experience was no difference. We love showing love especially when there are healthier options for Black folk. We enjoyed and will certainly return...because I need a shirt and a children's book or two. Get your knowledge on...do you know what Sankofa means? You must, ask about it.
I wanted to support this place for a variety of reasons; Black owned, variety of vegan options, etc. But my experience left much to be desired. The service was slow and they never brought a beverage I ordered (which they took off my check but I would've preferred to have just gotten it when I ordered it).
My meal was pretty pricy considering the quality and quantity. I ordered the vegan platter which came with 2 pieces of "shrimp," 2 pieces of "fish," and 2 "chicken" nuggets. The fish and shrimp were good but I could've gotten the Gardein chicken and made it at home for much less than $17. I think 3 pieces each would've made me feel like the cost was fair.
The cheese on the nachos was really tasty and the serving size was fair. I also ordered a spicy chicken sandwich to go which could've been spicier but it was fine nevertheless; nothing to write home about.
I may be convinced to give them another shot but it's not on my priority list. I wish them the best though!
My first time eating there and OMG ...the food is AWESOME! I had the vegan spaghetti with a salad. SO DELICIOUS! The service is Amazing and also great PRICES! So much food, I had to take the rest home ☺ DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE
This place has a peaceful atmosphere. I ordered the turkey bacon guacamole burger, it was huge & tasty. I will definitely be a returning customer.
I had the Vegan Shrimp Po Boy! It was SO FREAKING GOOD. They have many vegan options as well as non vegan options. I loved how big the portion sizes were 😋 Customer service was amazing also! I will definetly be coming back. They also have vegan options on the buffet on sundays! Highly recommend!!
I love the food here, however when I am doing something different with my diet, I can't eat there. I don't do fried food right now and I went on Sunday and they were offering Bruch Buffet. I'll go back
Sankofa is a real treat. There is a vegetarian menu if you choose. Also a customer has choices that are vegan, and with meat.
There is an area where books can be browsed, and purchased.
Customer service is helpful as well.
You have to stop by and try this place out, you will not be disappointed. The service is five star and the food is good to you and for you. They have books for sale if you interested in a vegan diet. I'm so serious about getting my diet in order thanks @Sankofa for being the change we need in this neighborhood. Peace and Blessings 🙏🙏
Ordered the vegan fish po boy and it was delicious! I'm not vegan, but I eat a lot of meat-free meals and this was a well-made sandwich. Even the pickles were super tasty, and I'm not a huge pickle person....or I thought I wasn't. The fries were thick and fresh-cut. Service was perfect. Love that they offer a vegan menu and a meat-eater menu - that is a really hard combo to find! Will definitely be back.
Atmosphere was very social and everyone was friendly. The food was great they have vegan menu, chicken and Turkey for the meat eaters like me. Cost was about average not expensive at all. Lemonade was the BEST I have ever had in a restaurant.
Probably the best place to eat on the Southern side of Dallas. Real food. Great price. Vegan/healthy well done!
This place is amazing! I got the vegan platter so that I may try multiple choices at once, and I was amazed. There was a wait, but I didn't mind because my food was fresh. If you want fast food then go to a fast food restaurant. The wait staff checked on us regularly. I will definitely make visits here on the regular.
i absolutely love this restaurant. great food, amazing customer service. i try to come once a week! i went vegan 6 months and i enjoy a new clean vegan restaurant on my side of town! 10 stars !!!
Because i hadnt ever been here I asked the server what was good, and what she would prefer? She told me the fish was the best, so I ordered fish...After taking one bite i realized, It was not good at all. I told the server I did not like it and that it has a spice to it, and I do not care for spicy food. I was told that I should have went with my first mind and she walked off...I didn't even get offered to try something different, or if i would like it taken off since I only took 1 bite and ate none of the fries, but i got my check soon after and she asked if I needed a to go box...I feel this was a very unprofessional visit and they showed no care to the customer!!
We were in Dallas for a quick trip and this place was recommended by a friend. The food was fantastic and the staff was very friendly. I had the shrimp basket and my husband had the turkey burger. Side note - they have great artwork to enjoy gazing during your meal.
Outstanding food. The best vegan, vegetarian, and health friendly restaurant I found. The food is so good you can't even tell you eating healthy. I have become addicted. I order like every week. This is a must stop for vegans and vegetarians
Had a great smoothie. The lentil soup and the salad are the only vegan options that aren’t soy based. The lentil soup is yummy but cumin heavy so if you aren’t a fan of cumin, it wont be for you!
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS in the South Dallas area. I LOVE THE ATMOSPHERE. I LOVE THE FOOD. I LOVE THE STAFF. You will, too.
Best food around for miles. I had the catfish tacos and they were very good. Everyone was very nice and kind.
The food was delicious! I looked up the menu and decided on the lentil soup with carrots and spinach. Once I arrived the woman at the counter explained it was Sunday brunch and the menu was different so I decided to try it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised . I ordered sweet hibiscus tea ....good ! Grits, greens really everything I ate was really good . They also have fried chicken and fish along with vegan fried chicken. Great options for vegan clients and none vegan clients. Nice atmosphere and great art! Clean!
Tried this place today with my aunt for the first time. We both got turkey burgers and sweet potato fries and shared a smoothie. All very delicious!! The staff was very helpful and friendly, food came out quick and fresh. I’ll be back in the future. I’m going to need that smoothie again!
No I am not a vegetarian/vegan; therefore, as a carnivore... that IMPOSSIBLE BURGER with fries was off the chain! So well seasoned, the burger patty was absolutely delicious. It was moist and the texture made it impossible to believe it was not a cow. 🌱🍔🌾🚫🐂
While visiting Texas from California I wanted to find some vegetarian/vegan food. I found Sankofa Kitchen by searching online, during my first visit I ordered the Vegan Po Boy sandwich. It was delicious!!!! The vegan fish was crispy, moist and very delicious! The meal was fantastic! On my second visit I ordered the Impossible Burger. It was tasty, like it was grilled and very juicy. I also ordered the Lentil soup and salad meal for dinner. I will visit Sankofa Kitchen every time I am in Texas. Great food!
Tried this place once with a friend and I am obsessed since then. I enjoy the fantastic character and flavorful dishes and drinks. Fantastic work.
Everyone was very nice and helpful (extra napkins, drink refills, etc). We were especially intrigued by the coconut milk based vegan cheese, which was quite good. The vegan seafood batter was light and crunchy. Can’t wait to come back on a Sunday to try the brunch with waffles, grits, greens, and more for omnivores and vegans alike.
Best place ever. They have the best vegan food in town and it’s really great because i can come here with my meat lover friends and they can eat just as
Good as me. The fries are the best homemade hand cut fries they are hard to resist.
Fresh,Delicious, and Outstanding Food! A good family friendly environment also! We will definitely be back!
I admire this restaurant for its creativity of recipes and the quality of taste. From smoothies to my favorite, turkey spaghetti. Side note: we order the...read this and 121 more
