This was my first "Curly Girl" haircut and I could not be more pleased with the results. The online appt. request was smooth, the follow up was prompt and once I secured my appt. with a credit card we were good to go. Staff was pleasant and helpful, they had good music, comfortable and clean space. It is a financial commitment, but given more reasonable trims, it seemed worthwhile. I have gotten lots of complements and got lots of instruction on how to maintain my hair style which has been easy to do. Plan to make it my go to hair care place.
I love this place! I've been twice, both times with Anjo, and have gotten a great cut each time with lots of advice on how I should best take care of my hair. The most recent visit I told him I wanted a dramatic change- something much shorter, and a bit edgier, and that I was having trouble finding pictures online of what I wanted because so many curly hairstyles are meant to be long and glamorous. The cut I got was even better than I had imagined (it's about chin-length now, longer in the front than in the back, and longer on one side than the other), and I can style it really easily to look like how it did the day of the cut, which in the past I'd thought to be impossible. Highly recommend for people with curly hair.
I have had amazing hair care and instruction about home care from the stylists at Madusalon. In fact, when my daughter had a less than stellar experience, they were so accommodating and professional and solved the problem quickly . If you have curly or kinky hair, this is the place for you. If you do not have curly or kinky hair, this is still the place for you...everyone here is a skilled professional and really good at what they do. Kind of expensive but you get what you pay for.
Anjo is the best!! My experience there was top-notch and well worth the money. I have really curly hair that is somewhat fine but...I have alot of it. I am of mixed decent and I have struggled with my hair for over 30 years. From relaxers to so-called keratin treatments to flat-iron and straight cuts. My hair is really damaged and as Anjo says, it will be a process to get it back to healthy. I'd forgotten what healthy hair for me should look like. That being said, my hair is the healthiest it has ever looked after just one visit to this salon. The cost is well worth it especially since I only paid a fraction of the cost at Madusalon than I do at other salons. I also learned so much during my visit. Anjo took so much time to listen to my concerns and goals for my hair. He explained every bit of the process so I could continue this treatment on my own. Anjo helped me find my curly girl regimen. I expected to visit this salon only once since I live 99 miles from the salon. But I will be returning on a regular basis to have him maintain and regain my curls. It really seemed like staff there cared about my hair as much as I did...which was different than what I experienced at other salons in Sacramento.
I've been to Madusalon twice for a DEVA cut with Latasha. Each time I've LOVED my haircut. Latasha takes the time to listen to me and together we come up with a fun cut for my crazy, curly hair. I do wish their prices were a bit more reasonable and I generally leave feeling guilty about using non-DEVA system products, but I'm so happy with the cut that I keep coming back.
I had the best experience ever yesterday evening at MaduSalon. I was super nervous to cut my medium-long hair into a short asymmetrical bob. Shannon was amazing and listened to my ideas and concerns. She really helped me understand how to get the spring back into my damaged hair, She guided me step by step through the cut (deva cut), the wash, and style. I am so happy and thankful to Shannon and the MaduSalon team!
Huge disappointment. Let me preface this with I have been there two other times in the past few years and I was somewhat satisfied. This time, my hair was cut so short and uneven that I was in shock. This is after I was given the "DevaCurl" cut by a trained expert. Forget the cut itself, because I actually like the stylist, but where I have a problem with is the service policy. After receiving my cut, I gave it two days to see if per chance my hair would look longer or better once it settled, but no! The layers were totally uneven and would puff only on one side of my hair. So I called the salon to discuss my concerns with the manager on wednesday morning. I was told they would simply fix my hair, but that wasn't an option for me since they had already cut it so short and another cut was out of the question for me. I was told she would call me back. Friday rolls around and I realized that no one had reached out to me. I called back and again the receptionist told me she had shared my concern with manager Daniele and that she was on the phone but would call me back. Two hours later I called back to see why no one had returned my call. That is when I was told that the manager said they do not honor a policy of refunds. But yet, there was no courtesy in actually calling me back to tell me that or even having the professional courtesy from the manager to see what my concern was. Again I reiterated to the receptionist that I would like to speak with the manager. It is now Tuesday and I have YET to receive a call back.
I will never go back here again, nor refer friends. Don't be fooled by their satisfaction policy, because that is not true. And furthermore, there are other stylists out there that are Deva cut professionals. Be ware!
Best Curly Hair Cut I've ever had by Anjo.
If you don't have curly hair that tends towards frizziness then you do not know the pain of growing up "different". Especially if, like me, you grew up in the 60's and wanted nothing more than long straight hair like Peggy in the Mod Squad. Madusalon's amazing team gets rid of my frizzes and makes me love my curls. And my 21 year old daughter, whose curls are more like waves, won't go anywhere else.
I had an absolutely GREAT experience at Madusalon, S.F. I arrived early because it was my first time and I usually don't come to SF (too congested) but on the advice of many on YT and other reviews I needed someone to slay this 4c hair. When I first made my appointment I really was not sure what I wanted. I checked out their services for guidance and decided to go with a 2 strand twist. However, in the back of my mind I really didn't want that because I do that to my own hair on a regular so I really wanted something different. I checked their photos for some hair inspirations and found this one beautiful dark skinned young lady named Danielle--you would definitely know her, she has fuchsia colored hair (OMG). So I printed out a photo of her hair with the intention of getting that hair (not the color but the style). See, I have my own natural gray hair and I was hopeful that I could get those cute coils on my hair in my gray. As I was sitting there having my consultation with Isabel --my very cute stylist --I see a reflection in the mirror and it was none other than Danielle; I gasped. She is even more beautiful in person and her hair was fabulous. Back to my hair. Isabel had the most infectious smile and personality. Actually, the entire staff from what I experienced. I loved that everyone was different (hair and nationality). So to wind this up, what I ended up with was a Devaset. For me, it is what I always wanted to just be able to wash my 4c hair, apply product, and just go. I got amazing results. Now, I don't know if I can do this on my own even though Isabel fully explained everything to me, I don't think I will remember so I will have to go back if I want that same result.
Disclaimer: I have ridiculously course, thick, curly hair.
Note that you have to tip in cash here!!! Cannot add it to the card! I had to leave a smaller tip than I wanted.
Was told to stop using coconut oil on my hair, but since then it's gotten extremely fragile and breaks a lot. I'm going back to the coconut oil.
They did push the Devacurl product, which I have used and consider it to be "meh".
I loved the environment, that they taught me the techniques they were doing (like gave me a mirror and showed me exactly what they were doing). I do feel that my styling technique is better since coming here.
I have really struggled with caring for my mixed race curly hair, and honestly I had some terrible experiences in the past that had prevented me from trying another salon for years. I read a review and talked to one of the stylist on the phone so I took a chance and went in. I am so glad I did! They taught me about curly hair care and how I can make it grow and stay healthy. I would absolutely recommend Madusalon to anyone with curly hair! Thanks so much!
When I realized my hair wasn't straight, but actually a little curly, I went to MaduSalon. Adrian Bonilla has been my amazing stylist for years and has shown me what the right cut and care can do to free my curls. The atmosphere at MaduSalon is always friendly, lively, and uplifting about enhancing outer beauty to match the inner beauty of each person. Joseph the front desk guy is always helpful and sweet. Take your curls to MaduSalon!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Madu, if you've got curls this is place. Shannon is a great stylist and colorist, so is owner Marie France. Great customer service, atmosphere is not salon-snooty,down to earth and friendly.
Amazing customer service. A wonderful haircut provided by traveling Devachan stylist Antonio Berducci. I didn't leave without booking another apartment. If you're a curly-haired girl in need of a salon and stylists you can trust with your tresses, this is your spot. It's a little pricey, but worth every cent.
Sierra did a great job with my hair. All of the stylists specialize in curly hair cutting and stuling. They do dry cuts and style the hell out of your hair which is awesome; I got a ton of compliments.
I had a great experience, they really know how to maintain and style curly hair. Sierra did an excellent job both doing my hair (I had a devacut) and explaining how I could maintain my curls in between salon visits.
Simply divine. My curls got the most tender loving care and I will be a die hard customer as long as I am in the Bay Area. Not only did they make my curls shine with all of the glory, but my stylist walked me through all these products she used and made sure I knew how to style and care for my hair between visits. Thank you MaduSalon!!
Great color service by Sasha, he's outstanding. Also, I got my hair washed for almost 2 hours. No idea why,but I loved every minute of it.
Attentive staff, chill atmosphere, and of course the place to go in SF for us curly haired gals!
Cascading waves and curls. What could be better? People constantly stop me in the street to compliment my gorgeous hair. It’s all MaduSalon. At other places the stylists use a razor and just hack away at the thickness of my hair. But at MaduSalon the stylist I see calls me a lioness and she babies my curls as if they were her own, cutting the locks one by one with the scissors. Thing of a fine artist creating a sculpture vs a hack designer just piecing together to meet the bare minimum. If you love to have beautiful hair and you have any curl pattern at all this is the place for you.
Shouldn't go anywhere else if you have curly hair. They know what they're doing and practice a lot of nuance depending on your curl type
This Salon is TIGHT!!!! Stylist are friendly, professional, good attention to customers and of course they know how to take care of curls here...just be ready to sit down and get full attention until work it's done...enjoy.
I always get the best treatment from everyone at Madusalon, from the front desk welcome to the stylists and assistants. I can't imagine anyone else cutting my curly hair after having a Deva-cut with Marie-France. My hair has never looked better!
Wish I could give 10 stars. The stylists and their assistants are very informative. For a girl, newly embracing her curls that is very encouraging. You'll walk in and find every variety of curls working there or getting their hair done at this salon. Sasha, one of the male stylists, and his assistant Vanessa, were great! The owner is super friendly and can be seen chatting it up with clients. Check their Instagram for photos too.
First visit was in July 2016 and everything went well. But months later my stylist left the saloon and I had an appointment scheduled with her. Madison, called me several times and confirmed my appointment over message, when I arrived in the salon they said it was not confirmed that the message was automatic and nothing they could do. Besides that I had a credit of 25 dollars and they didn't return because they said I must do some service to receive the credit. I heard good things about Madusalon but had a terrible experience. Maybe you'll be luckier than I.
Isabel is awesome as are the rest of the staff. They take care to give you what you want and not make you settle.
Worth the price! Got an awesome haircut and great tips on how to treat curls that I was never told before.
Always fantastic, friendly, wonderful service. I never knew how to take care of my wild curls until Masusalon. Love. :)
It took me a while to decide to get a cut by a curls specialist but I wish I had done it years before! The cut and treatment and all the precious information and tips I got on how to best treat my curls made every $ worth it! Plus Isabel was so nice and helpful. Best investment I've made in my hair ever!
My wife loves this place for maintaining her curly hair. Pricey from my POV though ;)
I have to travel far to this saloon, but it's worth it and costly. My current stylist is Sierra and she's great. She listens to my needs and I always walk out pleased with my results. Would definitely recommend this salon and have:)
I got my hair cut and highlighted by Sasha. I got exactly what I wanted! Madusalon is the best with curly hair!
If you have curly hair, this is your place to go! I had the best hair cut with Lorena, she is full recommended, really nice and great talent!
Went in for a trim. My stretched hair was mid back, I left scalped The wash girl literally left half my hair in the bowl after I complemented how gentle she was she commenced to pulling half my hair out buy the root saying she was working the styler in and I still had plenty of hair left. I have NEVER left a salon looking so horrible. I can't think of a time in my life I looked worse. My hair was matted, dry, THIN, and 6 INCHES shorter than when I week in the door 5 HOURS earlier. I've waited 6 months because I didn't want to write in anger but it's going to take YEARS for my hair to recover. The owner gave me a 20% discount because I was unhappy and she wanted me to come back so she could LEARN how to do my hair. She's lucky I didn't sue. Don't go here if you have afro textured hair. The owner is black and I saw other group members leave the salon looking nice, but none with tighter coils and curls. I also saw some horrid cornrows on this beautiful little mixed girl. (Her dad was obviously doing what he thought was his best by her.) This salon is a Hard NO. I will FLY to NYC. Even with the flight, it won't cost much more. Negative 5 stars.
Super knowledgeable and friendly. Tea was delicious. Definitely recommend Madusalon for fellow curly haired people. They know their stuff!!
If you have naturally curly hair this is an essential tool in your arsenal. They tame your tresses and you walk out with a great look!
I have very curly and thick hair. Sasha and Vanessa are sooo amazing. Not only did sasha cut my hair perfectly like I wanted (layers, frame my face, and a vcut), but Vanessa styled my hair and taught me soo much about products. She was even sweet enough to write a list for me! Highly recommend
Best place in SF for deva cuts and natural hair consultations. Really friendly staff, easy to book online, wide range of price options depending on stylist. I started going about two years ago and it's made dealing with getting my hair cut so much easier.
Medusalon has cancelled my appointments for our daughter twice. Most recent was today when the appointment was scheduled. They graciously waived the 24 hour cancellation fee since the stylist cancelled and not us. Thanks Medusalon. Your customer service is horrid.
This Salon is TIGHT!!!! Stylist are friendly, professional, good attention to customers and of course they know how to take care of curls here...just be ready to sit down and get full attention until work it's done...one detail we noticed is take cash to tip stylists...they don't add tip amount at the time of payment when paid with credit card or debit card...again, the work here is really professional... enjoy.
Would recommend it for a haircut but for hair color it was a total rip off! The mandatory color consultation was just an excuse to charge $25 and the stylist didn't even talked to me for 5 minutes. Then the day of my coloring we talked again what o was gonna get (a light brown ombre), and I even repeated that I did NOT wanted to look orange. And Devon said okay and that to make sure it was the color I wanted she was gonna leave it a bit light so if needed she could go darker.
To make the story short, at the end guess what? My hair was soo freaking ORANGE! So when she saw that I did not like it she was upset and said "I though you said you wanted your ends light" and I said that I wanted it darker than THAT (we had talked about it). So she unpleasantly did the mix to fix my hair. However when I was gonna pay the $190 that Devon said would cost, I was charged $255 so I had to pay for the mistake she made!? Plus when I gave her the tip (before paying) I did not sepate my money and actually tip her $40 which she actually didn't deserve.
Due to her mistake I was late for work so I didn't have time to talk about it with them... I'm just disappointed at the service I got and the fact that I spent all that money when I could/should have gone somewhere else. Again for Devacut Shannon was amazing and it was totally worth every penny but for hair color don't waste your time nor your money here. I'm definitely not going back again.
Curly girl heaven. Love Adrian for my wavy hair.
Friendly help staff, the best colorist, Devon!
Great salon for curly, thick hair! I've had two different stylists and both were great. I'm super picky and went to 3 salons before ending up here and am glad I finally don't have to try another!
I love this place and they do wonders to my curls! It had always been a challenge for me to find a perfect place to do my curly hair, and I finally found it. I enjoy every time I go to Madusalon and do my hair, everyone is super nice and they know how to manage curls. I also like the products they use.
They fixed my frizzy hair and turned me into a shining curly goddess. Isabel treated cutting my hair like "building a house." She was not going to let me walk out of the salon with bad shape. Super gratful for this salon, will be back in the future. Worth every penny
Cozy layout. Reception area very comfortable and staff friendly/attentive. Hair service done in timely manner, staff give customers updated styling choices. Location easy area for Lyft and diverse food options.
I had researched this salon thoroughly before making an appointment. I know prices in SF are going to be higher than other cities but I was still skeptical about paying $160 for a cut. The staff was friendly and the salon was very nice. And they know their stuff when it comes to the Deva technique and product line. I have had bad cut after bad cut and was hopeful that Madusalon could nail it. However a few weeks later this is what my hair looks like. The stylist seemed to be more into pushing the Deva way versus listening to what I wanted. Nothing new here, so while I appreciate her passion for that particular style it doesn't work for my hair. So yet again I am left with heavy ends, flat roots and terribly styled hair... not to mention a super intense V shape. I know the salon specializes in the Deva way but I was hoping that also meant the stylist could adapt the curly cut to how I like to wear/ style my curls.
Love this salon! If you are curly, this place is for you!
Cordial and Professional. Couldn't possibly of asked for more.
Marie the owner of this salon is awesome in every way. Im not sure i can ever let anyone else cut my hair!
My mom and I love it here. My mom has fine very curly hair and I have fine wavy hair. We both leave looking and feeling great. The stylist take the time they need to give you the perfect cut for your wave or curl pattern. I see Sasha and my mom goes to Adrian.
Adrian is an amazing hair stylist and the salon's vibe is very chill.
Just got my first Deva cut done by Devon, and I love it! Everyone there is very nice and Devon listened to me ramble on about what I think I wanted and definitely delivered! I’ll definitely be going back
I've been getting my hair done here for almost the last 10 years. They even did my hair for my wedding. If you have curly this is the only place you should be going to. From long to short and dark to blonde, they've done it all for me. Madu is an institution
Great place for a devacut! They walk you through all there is to know about your curly hair- the products, the technique, etc.
I'm a guy with curly hair and have always struggled with getting it right. Little did I know what I was missing was this place! The owner is very friendly and an amazing person!
Their skills are unmatched and if you're ever wondering what your curls are missing or looking to improve then further, then look no further. No amount of product or care will fix a bad haircut, I learned this the hard way, so if you ever need a stellar cut. This is it.
It’s such a great feeling to have a hairdresser who really understands curly hair. Madusalon is the best haircut I’ve ever had, I’m never going back to straight hair salons!
They are so kind and thoughtful! Best place to go get your curly hair done. I have never loved my curly as much as I do now!
The food is good but the place is dirty.
The only place I trust that my curly hair will be properly cut and styled. All of the stylists are super friendly. It is kind of a lot of $ for a haircut, but I don't mind paying it considering the quality of work.
Very nice place and lovely staff. I dont think the staff has much experience with 4C te textured hair. I left very disappointed and dissatisfied. I wont be returning. I guess I have to go to LA to get proper haircare.
Waited forever. My stylist took a client that was scheduled after me, even though I was sitting and waiting right there. Then it took 4 hours to do my hair while I was shuffled from my seat to the basement and forgotten there. Waaaaay too expensive for this waste of time.
I had my 3rd Devacut ever here, and this one was my favorite.
I trusted Sierra to literally cut off every dead end I had (which was totally terrifying but absolutely worth it) A few months later — I’ve finally grown into my cut and I am so happy. I’m embracing my natural hair and loving the process.
She really knows how to take care of 3c-4a curls!
I remember when this place first opened, and I can't believe I waited so long to come here! Wait, actually I know why. I couldn't afford to get a cut here...read this and 535 more
