I have been to this salon twice and each time my experience was favorable. Audi, my loctician was professional and took great care of my hair, it looked fantastic. I have another appointment today!
Beauty Shops are Shops where we go to look and feel Beautiful. My Experience was Great, took my Mom, we got what we asked for. My Brother recommended.

Ridiculously overpriced! Wayyyy too tight! Only reason I gave it one star is because I have to. I was told the hairstylist the way I wanted my hair styled and I was told that It would cost about $85. When I got there she told me it was going to be $120. I have never in my life had to pay $120 for medium size cornows but I really needed and I thought from all the reviews she'd be a good braider so I agreed with the price. When she braided my hair she pulled it soooo tight I even told her one was really tight and all she said was "well." I am from out of town and I will never go back here while I stay in California. Between the ridiculous price, poor customer service, and horrible braiding I can't give this place any stars.
The queens that work there are extremely welcoming and have nothing but love to give. They will have you exiting the building with more confidence then you had entering. Definitely recommend homies and kin to make their next hair appointment with these sistas. You'll go in NAPPY and leave HAPPY!!!

Best stylist in Oakland
Visited on 9/9/17 for my 11 year-old’s starter Locs. It was truly disheartening and a shame because my daughter and I were both really excited because her father had also gone here many years ago for his Locs.
However, the negative experience started immediately when were told that our stylist was not there, running late. We were only 5 minutes late showing up at 10:35 a.m. for 10:30 appt. I was told over the phone that I would definitely have a stylist, but that they did not know who it would be. When I came in I was told that they thought the owner’s sister had a client coming in as if I was second to that person or may have to cancel because I wasn’t as important as the owner’s sister’s client, even though I had made a phone appointment and one online for 10-11 a.m. so technically I had 2 appts. But, then the stylist told me that if I had a 10-11am appt, well then that is why the stylist would be here at 11am!!! What? So a 10-11am appoint means they can show up anywhere in that time, not that I would in a chair during that time? Huh? Really?
After being told that the stylist would be there at 11 we were still sitting there until 11:45, forgotten about. I asked what was up, was told it would be another 15 min. Meanwhile they are calling her back/forth telling her my daughter’s hair was already washed, we were still waiting, etc.
The stylist finally came at 12:05 p.m. having us wait 1 ½ hours, not even being offered any water or anything.
Next is when the experience truly begin to decline. The stylist named "Mimo" (spllg?), said nothing to me or my child. Not even, “Sorry for your wait, hello,” nor did she ever explain what she was going to do, or anything about maintenance and care. Nothing! I had to introduce myself and all I got was a, “Hi.” At this point I am now crying in the corner because I wanted to go off and tell them how rude this was. However, I didn't want my daughter's hair to get messed up or for the stylist to not do her hair. I was just so mad for my daughter's feelings because she was so excited and to have a stylist not even talk to you, say hi, or explain to you how to take care of your hair is just unprofessional rude and disrespectful.
THEN, she talked on her phone behind my child's ear for 3 1/2 hours after she said it would be an hour. She then put my child under the dryer and didn't say. She didn't tell me that we were almost done or anything. Another stylist asked if my daughter wanted a style. The original stylist was not concerned at all. The other stylist, Ronnie, explained that it would be best because it would help her hair to stay together and not unravel.. By this time I was completely done with Mimo and her unprofessional behavior/attitude. Ronnie was so friendly and professional. I appreciated her making conversation and explaining what the original stylist had not. Ronnie was the best part of this experience.
So in preparing to leave after 5 ½ hours, at 4 p.m. things get worse. At the front counter the stylist asked the owner what she should charge my daughter. Now every other quote says that my daughter is a child at 11 years, and falls in that category which would be $100 as advertised on their website. I understood that she also got a style so I would expect them to add $10 to $15 on to that because of the style. However, what the owner Rhonda, didn't know was that I was able to see her as she mouth silently how the stylist should charge us a rate of $130. Then it was funny because the stylist was the one who said, “You don't have to leave a tip,” and pushed the “no tip” button on the screen. Not leaving a tip makes me feel rude and extremely guilty not supporting someone's entrepreneurial career. However, I felt that the stylist obviously knew that she was not deserving of a tip after being 1 ½ hours late, not apologizing, not speaking, not explaining, and being so unprofessional.
1 star for this experience. Too many negatives happened They ruined my daughter's first experience at a beauty shop, and set a bad impression for her vision of any future visits.

Love my experience! Rhonda is a true artist. When it comes to hair, she knows her stuff. Everyone makes you feel at home. If you want to wear your hair natural or not, they got you!!!!!

This review is primarily on service when attempting to set an appointment as a new potential customer. I'm always happy to support a black business (we have to help each other out). But bad service is bad service, how would she have treated me once I got there?!:
I called yesterday to make an appointment, i was greeted with a woman laughing loudly and I don't believe even mentioned the salon's name. I asked for a specific style and mentioned the word two strand twist, she said she never heard of a two strand twist, but they do a double strand (duh, that would be two right)? Nevertheless, she took my name and number and said someone would call me that day. Never heard back from them. Definitely a salon that need a serious class in Customer Service and Professionalism. Luckily, I found another salon in the area.

If you are looking to get locs installed, start at Nappy or Not. They have great service, great pricing and a welcoming vibe.
I came in for loc a install with extensions while visiting family for 2 weeks. The owner, Rhonda is very genuine and created a comfortable atmosphere. She was patient and meticulous with my hair. During the process she checked in several times to ensure that the locs were coming along as I wanted them to, and if there was anything that needed to be changed.
Even after she had already received my money, she checked in the next day to make sure I was satisfied and offered to fix anything if I wasn't because she knew I would be leaving at the end of the week-- free of charge. I didn't but it was nice to know that i could come back. I can tell she loves what she does for a living.
Before finding them I had called all around Oakland looking for someone to do install my locs-- every salon had poor customer service and an unwelcoming attitude. To make it worse, some of those places had the nerve to charge 25 dollars for a 5-10 minute consultation on top of the ridiculously high (100+) per hour they charged. Who is to say the stylist would not work slowly on purpose. Nappy or not doesn't do hourly and is a set price which depends on size, length, type of install etc. Sorry this was so long, I was impressed with the whole experience and appreciated how good and natural my hair looks Money well spent.

Very impressed with the service I received by rhonnie she was also very sweet and a pleasure to talk to. The owner Rhonda was also very kind as well! This was my first time here and they left a good a good impresion... So happy I gave them a try!
