Most of the cakes here look better than they taste, with the notable exception of the flourless gluten-free chocolate raspberry cake. That cake looks very low-key compared to its more colorful and voluminous brethren, but man does this cake taste good. Like a song in your mouth! That goes to your heart! And fills your heart with joy!
I've loved every cake and dessert I've had from here, but my favorite is cuatro leches. Yum! Pricing is pretty typical, around $8 per slice. The owner is very nice and even gave me a thin slice of my second choice...I can never decide on just one. It's open late, too.
I like to look at all the incredible looking cakes displayed here and test my willpower. The other day I resisted temptation and just had a pot of earl grey tea. I have had the Princess Cake and a piece of chocolate cake here before. The portions are generous and good to share with a friend, at least for me. They were baking in the back kitchen and the cafe was sweet and sugary scented. Service is always friendly.
Because I just wrote the harshest review of any business I ever have written, let me show you a business that is well run and managed.
I stop by a few times a year, and lately weekly because I have a steady gig nearby. The staff are always pleasant and warm; the food is excellent; they anticipate what you want from the bathroom key to getting you some water.
They've been there for years, because they're good at what they do, and seem to be grateful for their customers. Always a good idea for any business.
Sweet Inspiration catered our school's senior graduation party. They provided food and cake for 400 people. Their catering is quick and efficient, quickly turning some boring tables into a beautiful display. Linens, bite size foods, fresh fruit, cheese, all delicious. The cakes were a master piece, with creative designs that showed off our various art disciplines. It was so difficult to cut the cake because everyone wanted to pose for photos!
I generally come here to work on weekends. The staff is incredibly nice, and they have some amazing cakes.
Cool things: free coffee refills, sometimes they have live music.
A nice place to do work with a good tea selection to boot
Delicious cakes, but a little expensive!
great tea selection and such amazing cakes. a must try
The egg omelette was wonderful! I must take a friend.
Great service, huge selection of cakes n cheesecakes. Iced coffee was strong. We had the orange cake and it was really good. Chocolate chip cookie was yummy.
Sweet inspiration is the new home of Mike's Place, an Ike's-inspired sandwich collaboration. The collaboration was apparently a way to address the lease issues of the now-closed 16th Ike's location and Sweet Inspiration's not-so-busy hours. The name of the collaboration is a reference to Michael, the Sweet Inspiration owner, and of course, the inspiring sandwich chain. The names of the sandwiches are all slightly different, but anyone familiar with Ike's recipes, breads, and Zappos chips will feel right at home. Plus, now you can get a delicious cake with your sandwich!
Serving up Ike's inspired sandwiches which is greatly appreciated in Ike's absence! The cakes look incredible and the cookies were so tempting that while waiting for our sandwiches we ended up buying two of those as well!
Get the strawberry cheesecake! It's fabulous.
Cute guys and great coffee. What more do you need?
I love getting cake with warm milk here, any time of the year.
Dissatisfaction in the second half. Sandwiches are absolutely delicious. I had the D Bruce and couldn't stop myself from finishing the whole thing. Their cakes, even better. Absolutely a must try.
Now, i rated 5 stars on their food quality. I've ordered cakes here without issue. Unfortunately i order yesterday at lunch time and was promised today at 11am, forgot about it, and came to pick up at 8pm. Guess what, no cake. I'm more upset because i paid for it yesterday. I'm a contractor, i always schedule in setbacks. I would not have been upset if i had to pick up the cake later than the promised time. I would have even appreciated a call that they were unable to make it. I could go somewhere else. But it's 9pm on a Sunday, they don't have a decent whole cake left, and EVERYTHING ELSE IS CLOSED! PI cannot politely express my level of frustration. To paint the picture, had a lovely day with the wife celebrating our 8th anniversary. 7 of the last 8 has been financially difficult with not much more than Chinese takeout. It took every fiber of my body to not lose it in there.
Sweet Inspirations Bakery is iconic in the Castro. In the Eighties and Nineties, my friends and I used to wake up in the morning on the way to San Francisco State University by bus to Sweet Inspirations fresh baked scones. Delicious biscotti with an almond taste, us students would study with coffee embracing the aroma of fresh eclairs, cakes of all sizes with a variety of fillings, and of rouse, their famous scones. Now I live in Las Vegas, but travel to Sweet Inspirations with my wife and son every single time I enter San Francisco, because I take pride in how wonderful Sweet Inspirations is. The bakery has made Market Street shine from Castro Street Station to Church Street Station.
The bst sandwich ive had in a long time.the people very nice & a good price
Excellent service and awesome cakes and pies. They have every cake you can imagine. A great place to go when you need a birthday cake!
Nice & cosy cafe ... cakes are very good , huge slice , a little bit pricey but woooorth iiiit okay
I really like this place. Big cups of coffee, lots of cakes to offer with slices big enough to share, Mitchell's ice cream and lots of tables with fast wifi.
Great Cakes! Plus Sandwiches. Halal options as well.
They are open late. Friendly staff. The salted caramel cake was incredible. The coffee was okay.
Sad tired place. Staff is nice. But the cakes and pastries here have gone downhill - the lack the heart they used to have. And the facility needs major freshing - it's so dark and dingy here.
Great hangout spot to have coffee and desert. Good selection of cakes and cheesecakes.
Everything you need for an unpretentious breakfast away from the tourist traps. Real people.
We had coconut cake and vanilla bean cheesecake. Both were hard and not rich in flavor. We had high hopes based on other reviews.
5 for the Ike sandwich. Won't disappoint. Had the Stephen Curry.
Cakes are delicious and slices are huge.
Surprise win is that they have mini doughnuts for breakfast!
My poppyseed cake was so dry it crumbled like a cookie...and the new donut holes were even a bigger disappointment. I frequent this place and still will...but not if I have the same experience as this.
Sugar and salt overload. Robin williams sandwich was good with mushrooms. Good carrot cake. Burger was excellent but the bun ruined it since it was soggy. French fries got way too much salt, ruined it.
Your new hours suck ass. The whole fun point of this place was getting late night dessert after dinner at 10pm. 🙄
So sad - this place used to have the best cake selection in town, including the best carrot cake I've ever had. But since the owners changed, so did the cakes, and now they're not nearly as good, and the selection narrowed down.
Love their burgers, shakes, and desserts. Friendly staff too! I can't wait to come back and try their breakfast.
Good food. Burger cooked perfectly! Helpful and friendly staff. Have always liked their desserts, now can have a good meal at reasonable prices, too. Would like to see more wall outlets, although that is not a deal breaker for me.
Love the new decorations! The Cajun fries were great and the burger was well seasoned. This place will become a local favorite for burger indulgences.
Great place for desserts and now sandwiches too. Decor is improving and still under construction so there is hope.
It is terrible to learn that again a great place has to be taken down cause someone tries to business the shit out of a good reputation. Since whenever I...read this and 520 more
