I have been going to the Rock Church for 5 years, and it has been good for me. The church is HUGE. Because of this you must make an effort if you want to be involved. I have been to many small churches in the past where they have you stand and introduce yourself the first time you visit. This is NOT that kind of church, it is a mega church. I like it because it is as personal as you want to make it. If you want to attend, sit back, and listen to the message, that is fine. There is no pressure. If you want to be more involved with a smaller group, there is one for EVERYONE. Everything from prison ministry, single parents, dog lovers, sewing, you name it- there is a group for it. This can make it overwhelming, but if you take time to attend and talk to people, you will find a group that speaks to your heart. All of the pastors I have met are great; very down to Earth (no pun intended). The worship is amazing! No judgement in this church, come as you are, and enjoy the Word.

Great Church. Sincere Bible teaching with practical application for our lives today. Recommend getting plugged in with a Small Group Bible study to help you develop deep relationship with other Christians. Large Church,, great people, very active in the community. You'll be blessed.

We started attending Rock Church East County when they opened up last Fall when we had a niece come and live with us who liked the louder music and concert feel to the worship service. She also has liked her young adult small groups. However, the experience has not been quite as positive for everyone else in my immediate family. For starters it has been really difficult to meet the campus pastor (let alone the "screen" pastor Miles McPherson) - he is not usually to be found after the service - and he never returned an email I sent him once. Also, I was going to get involved with some secret society type of men's group (the real power in the church?) back in the fall but they had the weirdest men’s ministry guy trying to sign people up. This person acted like he could care less if I was interested or not. Then when I went through the first hoop I was invited to a picnic far away on the main campus on Saturday. When I did not show up there was no other follow up. My son does not have a junior high youth service on Sunday so he has to listen to the adult sermons, and my younger daughter does not have a weekday kids group like Awana either.
However, the thing that really made me realize that some major things that need to be addressed at this church and I think the main one, like most independent churches, is oversight of the senior pastor. This was made plainly evident when they hosted the Global Awakening Conference the first week of May 2014. The senior pastor Miles McPherson had been personally promoting this healing conference which just happened to be led by the leader of the charismatic fringe - Randy Clark who is the unrepentant central figure behind the blasphemous Toronto "Blessing" that included many fake and disgusting signs of the spirit. My wife attended that conference and came back not learning much and was disappointed in the experience since much of it seemed really scripted and unusual to her. Please read about that movement before deciding to attend Rock Church since as an independent church the senior pastor has full leeway as to what direction the church is going and the church body is never asked for their input as in real churches that offer real oversight and/or representation of the church body in the most important church decisions.
My suggestion is to take what they do best for worship and find a way to make a local denominational church do the same thing. I think most people would be much happier being in a smaller church where you have a chance to actually meet and get to know the people you are worshipping with. That is the element of worship they fall way behind on besides always being uncertain on what their true doctrinal stance is.
As a result of these experiences my wife and I have decided to start transitioning to a local denominational church in Tierrasanta that is also into outreach.

Best church I've ever been a member of! I heard Miles speak years ago at another church here in San Diego and thought he was good then. I love the diversity of the people, all the classes offered and ministry opportunities. It's positive, exciting and Mile's sermons are always great! Walking through the doors of this church makes you feel like your standing in heaven.....
