How would you rate Sheraton Suites San Diego at Symphony Hall?
Room wasn't that great of a size for a suite. Parking ($26/night) is a nightmare, esp if you don't drive a small/compact car. Carpeting in suite was stained throughout entire suite. Toilet seat was scratched up. Shower - I didn't dare get in! It was pretty nasty & outdated. Bedding looked old, dingy, and pillows, etc were starting to yellow. Not super close to any great food. Overall the room was not very clean.
Stayed here twice never had a problem. Rooms were separated, very spacious had the floor with filtered air for allergies.
Clean and friendly. Can walk to water front, Zoo, Little Italy, and Downtown easily.
great place to stay at because near the airport and beach.
The best part about this hotel was that it's conveniently located downtown near a lot of different restaurants. Worse part was the parking! It was expensive to self park! I get inside of my hotel and I was so disappointed! This hotel needs MAJOR upgrading. For the amount i paid, I expected so much more. I noticed there were NO towels in my room either!. I went downstairs and all that gave me was 2 big towels.. no wash cloths?? So if you stay here make sure you bring own towels. This was an awful experience! I wish i could have my money and time back. NEVER AGAIN!!
Great views, clean rooms and very convienent to downtown but don't expect the bells and whistles. I had to call to get a coffee maker in my room, TV had static, and no continental breakfast. As a place to crash, this place works but if you are looking for a high end hotel, keep looking.
I'm only giving the 2 stars because the view was fabulous..... but that's not the hotel's doing. This is the first time my husband and I have stayed at this hotel. Parking sucks. Very confusing 12th floor lobby, impersonal front entrance by the valets. No fridge. No Coffee maker in the room and staff didn't even have coffee in the lobby. Mysterious stains on the carpet (house keeping said it was hair dye. Really? was she there when it happened and who really dyes their hair on vacation?) Marijuana smell pervaded the hallway to which they sprayed Air wick to cover it up. No guest information book in the room (like, who do you call for pizza....where's the Mexican food? ) Happy Hour is SAD hour. No continental breakfast, but you can buy muffins at highway robbery prices. Rooms are charming, excellently laid out, I'll give them that. In dire need of a good dusting and attention to detail (along with a fridge and coffeemaker). Separate tub/shower set up was a pleasant surprise. I really do like the layout of the room....if they'd only pay attention to the little things, a more guest direction at the access points, at least an attempt at a breakfast or amazing happy hour, a fridge, more personal touches, it would be perfect. The location is unbeatable within proximity to everything. ...but they've completely missed the little things, and the Awwweeee factor. ...is pretty much isolated to the view outside, and no where in the room where we are sitting. oh and I'm posting this without utilizing their UnFree wifi.
The only thing about the Declan was the downtown view and our room was comfortable. I did not like the fact that you had to pay to park. You already paying for your room then parking? Plus they only had a microwave but no refrigerator what kind of stuff is that!? They need to get it together.
WE were coming to the hotel tonight, at 8.00 pm. we saw a homeless person, sitting in the lobby, the hotel staff didn't do anything.
apperantly she was waiting for us to enter the elevator, she came with us. we noticed but we didn't want to show that we are scared. (she was huge and scary). she followed us until we reached our room and she wanted to force her to our room, but we didn't open the room, we ran toward elevator but the elevator wasn't fast so we chose stairs and we ran to lobby and told the staff. and they were acting like it is nothing.
they were saying they are other entries to the hotel. we said the she was sitting in the lobby , how come u don't care! we are paying 130$ per night. don't book this hotel. it is the worse ever.
hotel has been outstanding, one of the best places I've ever stayed at. Price has been great too. Service has been excellent. And location of course is great, being in the Gaslamp
The hotel is located a couple of blocks out from the busy main area. During the day or with a group, it's a great location to access the restaurants and bars in the Gas lamp quarter. Travelling alone however, I did not feel comfortable walking here at night. The hotel was full of groups of noisy young people going out to party for spring break. The desk staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are large, but furnishings are low quality and beat up. Cleanliness could have been improved. and the shower dripped constantly and loudly all night and day. The sheets and pillows were nice and the bed was comfortable. The reception desk is on the 12th floor, and it took two sets of elevators to reach my room. There is currently no restaurant operating here. Perhaps when their renovations are completed it will be better, but for now I would recommend it for young people going clubbing, but it was not ideal for me.
Good location but might end up a disease from poor housekeeping. I've stayed here a few times because of the priomixty to a building that I occasionally work at. Lobby is nice and curb appeal is great. Valet is excellent and about average price for downtown San Diego. The rooms however are a disappointment. Housekeeping is horrible and each stay I've seen housekeeping mishaps like failure to switch out the complementary water after it's been partially consumed by the previous guest, hair on walls and water stains in bathrooms, etc. The rooms sometimes smell like cigarettes. Responsiveness to maintenance and housekeeping request vary. I've often called and requested things like towels etc. that were never received. The floors are often stained, lamps rarely work, and the Ac/heating units are don't function well or are super loud more often than not. Free wifi is good.
Nice staff. Great location. Have to use something to get around like uber though. Safe and family friendly.
Great location, a couple of blocks from the action in Gaslamp. The rooms are dated. They are going through renovations so no gym/pool right now. They first gave us a room on the 14th floor facing a balcony with construction materials which I'm assuming would be noisy during the day, but I called front desk and they gave me a room higher up so this won't be an issue.
Was here for drinks only this time but have stayed here four separate times and each visit was fantastic
The Declan Suites San Diego is pretty decent for a hotel. The walls are fairly soundproof, the water gets warm quickly, the furniture is pretty nice, and there are two televisions. While there is a pull out couch, it has no bedding. Our room had a suspicious sticky black mark on the floor when we arrived, though, the shower is tiny, and the WiFi is lousy. The bed is pretty good, but the pillows are not great. However, there is a mini fridge of reasonable quality and a microwave. The public transit distance is reasonable (0.5 miles away), and the view is really nice.
Under construction. None of the regular amenities available. The drain in my sink smells of death. The bathroom light buzzes. The fridge is not cold. No power outlet next to bed. Elevator takes several minutes to arrive. It seems they are trying to bring this outdated relic of a hotel into modern times while staying open and ripping off their guests. If you want a nice place, look elsewhere.
The hotel is being renovated and I hope they plan to fix up the rooms along with the 12th floor check-in desk. Also, it would have been nice if they had actually charged the card from my company and NOT my personal card I used for incidentals. The desk manager gave some excuse about only being able to use it on the first name to the reservation so my co-worker's stay was covered and my stay came directly out of my pocket. He was not willing to even look into the problem, just brushed me off as fast as he could with his explanations. The foul-up is still causing headaches on my account; originally with the hold put on there and then actually charging me two weeks later!!! The hotel's staff may need better training on the software they're using and/or better financial tracking.
Room is nice. Great window view of downtown. No fridge. Construction wakes you up early in the morning, very noisy. Pool and lounge are closed which sucked the whole trip. Tub drains into sink area with a foul smell. Mainenance man came said it was fixed but its not. I gave up calling again. Hotel charged my card 180.00 without my consent.
This is a pretty nice hotel. They have cute little suites and the staff is pretty nice. Only problem I have is that one night they told us they were out of towels when we had called for some and I had to call the manager. But Gustavo was wonderful and I really appreciate it.
The hotel room was nice but they had nails coming out of the floor that my 3 year old could have stepped on but only I stepped on it luckily. After I stepped on the nails coming out of the floor leading to bathroom I called to speak to manager. They said they would fix the flooring. Would not stay here again. Would have hated for a baby to step on it. Nails were rusted as well.
Completely updayed July 2016! Very sleek and modern.
The room was very spacious and clean. I only stayed one night and didn't get a chance to use any amenities, so I can't comment on them. The staff was both friendly and helpful. The parking structure was awkward to enter and exit since it forced you up and down a narrow corkscrew path. The location was great. Overall, it was a nice experience, probably more so if you plan on spending a lot of time around the hotel to take advantage of their offerings.
We stayed at the Declan suites for five days in July. I was not at all impressed by the staff. We had a suite on a corner which made the room smaller.
We had five people (three kids). Because there were 5 of us, we needed a couple extra towels. We asked for them the first night, thinking that surely that would be a sign that we needed extra towels for the duration of our stay. The next day we returned to the hotel and had to ask for towels again. We left a note and a tip on the following two days and were given extra towels. But we didn't leave a tip on the fourth day and we didn't get any extra towels. I called the front desk and let the phone ring 20 times. No one answered. I called the concierge and let the phone ring 20 times; no answer. I finally went down to the front desk to see if they were busy checking people in and to request towels. The people working there were all just talking to a couple of guys. They said they would send up towels. Forty-five minutes later no one had brought towels yet and I had to call down an to remind the staff.
Our room was not vacuumed during the time we stayed. There was so much dust in the vent in the bathroom that it would fall down on us. The pocket doors had lots of dust bunnies at the top, too.
One of the light blocking curtains in the bedroom was missing. The ice machine down the hall was unplugged so we had to go to another floor for ice. The room had a beverage chiller rather than a refrigerator, which seemed like a waste. We've never stayed in a restaurant suite that did not have a refrigerator and we have traveled from coast to coast.
The toilet broke and we requested that it be fixed. The man who fixed it provided us with the best service of any of the staff. He fixed the problem and was very nice.
My husband had stayed at this hotel before so felt comfortable going back. However, I would not recommend this hotel to friends traveling with their family.
Really enjoyed staying here. The rooms were clean and I liked that in our room, it wasn't just a room with a bed, but was basically a one bedroom apartment with a living room and bedroom. The view was gorgeous and shops and such are just a few blocks away. We used their hot tub. When the jets were turned on, it would foam A LOT (too much chlorine?) and their gym was really small.
It's a decent room, comfortable and definitely get what you pay for. The sight has renovations going on but it looks like it will be to its benefit. Good work
Bed was comfy, room looked clean, view was pretty. The elevator situation could trick ya. You have to drive up 6 levels in a very narrow spiraling fashion to get to the parking lot, I got a tad dizzy. But I enjoyed my experience.
The rooms are nice, however due to the drought California is experiencing, the water pressure was turned down pretty low.
Do not stay at the Declan. The air conditioners do not work and the hotel refuses to do anything since the air is technically blowing out of the vents. We are almost done with our family vacation so we will just stick it out I guess. But the waking up to a room that's 80 degrees is getting ridiculous.
My family and I were followed all the way from Petco by a guy that was homeless. (Had to get the police involved.)
Check in time was at 3 but we couldn't check in until 5 because they forgot about the room. Once we finally got to the room it was easy to see that the sheets had not been changed from the last person that occupied the room as there were obvious sex stains on the sheets.
Also, the restaurant is called the deck and has absolutely no view of the city (no windows or deck.
The only people at this hotel that are useful are the valet they get there part of the job done promptly. They have to park the cars several blocks away though so make a call before you go down to the Devils furnace (lobby)
Good service, rooms where very badly taken care of , Service was good. The restaurant was great specially room service.
I'm not sure what the fuss is about but this hotel wasn't bad at all. I booked two Traditional King Rooms last minute to accommodate my birthday party and...read this and 427 more
