How would you rate Sweetie Pie's Upper Crust?
I've been to both restaurants,, excellent!!... Staff top notch!!,, food excellent. I just have a problem with how it's ran.... Why come you don't have 2 serving lines in both restaurants. You have so many people from all over the world coming to see and eat there. We had to stand outside for hours... 2 serving lines would be faster and better service. Just depending on the crowd you can have one side open, or you can open both sides, just depending on the day and how big your crowd is...Feel me!!
Worth The Wait.... Entertainment was more then I expected. Food was very good & you get what you pay for. After seeing the fried chicken on TV, thats what I wanted. BUT the fried fish WAS EVERYTHANG! ( they only serve fish on Fridays & Saturdays)
Awesomeness! I've eaten there five times. My family and I eat there each time we travel down South. The BEST soul food I've ever eaten and large portion size. Keep Up The Great Work!
I finally made it to Sweetie Pies, it was worth the trip. I got to meet Ms Robbie, she is like she is on TV. We ate lunch at Mangrove and dinner at the Upper Crust. The food was delicious. I brought plates home for my family. We live in TN. They loved it too.
Came all the way from Naptown to get our grub on. The absolute best soul food in the midwest!!!
first time. watched the sweetie pie's show Very Hospitiple. A different experience, in that, I went through a buffet line that was kind of confusing. The chauk menu was good for locals but confusing for newbys. Then young fellas carried my tray to the table and set my stuff on the table... pretty slow. Asked for all condements so that was kind of slow. Couldn't have any fried chicken except wings. fried thighs and brests at the other restuarant. Disapointed about the salad. Not that fresh. sorry if my experience was not typical. Watched OWN that night and saw the owner waking in the ferguson. I can imagine the focus was not on the food at this time. Too bad for my single experience. My feelings are hopeful that people will get the message out. We are in service world. Henry Ford made a car afordable and paid his employees enough to buy it. We prospered and got along.
Awesome great food really nice experience
While waiting in line the cash register receipt broke right in front of me so she was trying to fix it for like 5 to 7 minutes. I just ask her can she run my card she said yeah I really didn't need a receipt. By the time I got to the table to sit down and enjoy my meal they first thing I went for was my fish. I took a bite of the fish and it was cold told the waiter. I only wanted him to take my fish because my sides were the right temperature. The waiter takes my whole plate comes back in a couple minutes with same fish and same sides. I couldn't believe he warmed my fish up. I think it was a microwave but I couldn't be sure of it. Microwaving fish just takes everything out the fish to me and now my side were to hot. I was very disappointed.
My wife and I have been planning to visit Sweetie Pies for 2yrs now, but something would always come up. We finally made it. The food was delicious, the service was great and the staff was very friendly.
Nice ambiance and food is decent, but extremely over rated! And be careful on an off day (When they are not busy) the food may be dry and over cooked.
Well let's just say I come from a family that knows how to cook down in South Carolina. This food was exceptional!! I could do nothing but smile with every bite. The staff was professional and pleasant. I definitely will be visiting Sweetie Pies again! Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Great food! The price is a little high and the line is very long, but it's worth it. Almost every time I'm in St. Louis, I try to go to Sweetie Pies. I like taking pictures with some of the staff members and say hello to the employees I see on TV. I want to go to the Sweetie Pies in Memphis one day on Beal street if I can.
I first ate here on a cold gray day. It was the best comfort food and I forgot about how crappy the weather was. Best Mac n cheese I've had in years. They took good care of me and made sure I had everything I needed. Very friendly atmosphere and food is absolutely delicious.
Of course everybody has different opinions & experiences no matter the subject. My opinion & experience is based on my very 1st visit today.... The hospitality, environment, and food was great! The line cooks were very polite. I felt welcomed at Sweetie Pies.
Overrated but great environment. The staff takes WAY too long to bring your drinks and or to clear away dishes
On August 15, 2015 my girl friend and I went to Sweetie Pies for dinner and the food was great. We had the rib dinner with String Beans, macaroni and chees, and corn bread. That was the best corn bread that I have ever eaten. The macaroni was also great and very cheesy and the String Beans were well seasoned. I even ordered chicken wings to go because they looked so tempting and of course the Cobbler was delicious. We flew in from Largo, Maryland and the food and time we spent in St Louis was well worth our visit. We also toured the zoo and other historical sites. We are looking forward to our next visit. I told my daughter in-law about the food and she said maybe our whole family can take a trip to St. Louis and eat at the famous Sweetie Pies.
NO STARS!!!. I visited the Upper Crust location. It was the worst. Television can really fool you. I watch this show every season it has been on OWN TV. The lines were long and after they let you in the door you are still waiting. The wait area was hot. There were 3 people filling the plates with a hundred people waiting. The silverware area was filthy with spoons and forks laying everywhere. The chicken wings was fried to death, the pork chops was dry and cold, the green beans potatoes was cooked to death and the green beans tasted like they came out of a can. The table with the food was also filthy. One server brought out a dish of peach cobbler and took the dish cloth and went around the edges of the crust and brushed it in the cobbler. The staff was very unprofessional. They were dancing and playing around to the Karaoke. I was not impressed. It was not worth the price of the meal. I will never visit again.
The Mac and cheese was great. The chicken was very crisp and seasoned. I loved the black eyed peas. Plus the staff was very friendly. I didn't like the sweet tea in bottle. I would have preferred fresh brewed tea. It was a great selection of meats and sides to choose from. Well worth the trip and money. I would like to thank the staff for all they do representing the city of Saint Louis.
The food was good, however the cook had a nasty attitude when the server asked how long on pork chops. After tell the server 12 sne decided not drop them. After sitting and waiting for about 25 minutes the server was the person who notified me that the cook didn't drop pork chops. Spoke with manager which wasn't helpful because she had to talk to another manager. This was my first time going since I'm from out of state. Food was good experience was terrible. Thanks to not getting my food. I would to thank the cook and her nasty attitude for that terrible experience
I traveled 5 hours just to visit the upper crust Sweetie Pies, and I have to say that my family and I were VERY disappointed. This was our first time visiting a sweetie pies so we didn't know if we were supposed to wait to be seated or not, so we stood at the doorway in front of the counter for about 2 minutes and then someone yells "follow the red carpet" so okay we walked up to the steam table and we still didn't receive a "hi welcome to sweetie pies" or a proper greeting. We stood about 2 more minutes until someone came down and started fixing our plates, (we were the only ones in the line) there were maybe 3 other tables of people sitting and eating, the lady fixing our sides was EXTREMELY rude to us. I told her "thank you", and she just gave me a dirty look. The cashier asked if we wanted dessert and we said "yes" and when he asked the lady to fix it she gave him a nasty look and said "Ima fix it". My fish was very cold, but my sides were warm. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because the server and the cashier were very nice and the food was okay besides my fish being cold. My family and I will probably never eat at a sweetie pies restaurant again because of the way we were treated. It's nothing like TV makes it out to be.
I found that sweetie pie's lives up to their reputation. I was there 2 weeks ago for a concert and knew that I had to try it. I was there at lunch time and didn't experience any long lines. The staff over all were courteous and professional. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone that's visiting St.Louis. kudos
There's a reason why this place has long lines. Excellent service, professional atmosphere, and the food--cooked to perfection. Waiting in line can be a little inconvenient sometimes, but you get what you wait for.
To start, we stood outside in line for an hour, then stood inside for another 30. Looking around, there were so many empty tables. The hold up was at the line where we got the food. Super annoyed.
The food was so worth it though. Nice portions. I didn't finish my plate.
We we're greeted by Mrs. Robbies sister. She was so nice and welcoming. The last lady at the serving area seemed so annoyed which is understandable on a busy Sunday, but she could have smiled or acknowledged our compliments. I purposely greeted her with a smile, a please and thank you then lastly "have an awesome day" (insert huge smile) and got nothing in return. I genuinely meant it. But oh well.
I probably won't visit with that line. Its honestly the worst wait..
I do wish them the best of luck, may God continue to expand her business (:
Never eaten or been in St Louis. Love the show. Just watching the show, and the people eating, I wish, I were there.
My birthday is today October 4, one of my gifts were a trip to St. Louis from Natchitoches Louisiana. Speaking and believing is true.
I pray I will arrive October 8, will you be ready for me? I don't know the city. Recommend hotel near Upper Crust. The food looks tasted and the kitchen is clean. Every pot and pan is use to cook up that good looking food.
Come on down to Sweetie Pies, experience the yummiest to your tummy . I will be there soon.

2nd trip to Upper Crust in the past 6 months. Another nice experience. Still no Miss Robbie present, but so far, I've met both sisters. This visit, we got a picture taken with Charles' mother. I forget her name. She was such a kind lady. Line was only 20 minutes, food was good, server (same as before, tall guy with very courteous manners) was on point, and ambiance was warm and cozy. It was on our marriage anniversary, and we just happened to stop in during a vacation. Luckily, we chose that day, because it was their last day open during the Christmas holidays. No complaints.
Thought there would be more choices but the chicken was awsome! Never had boiled okra taste so good!!! The staff is very nice!!! I enjoyed it!!
Had never been and we sure were not disappointed! The food and the curtious service was wonderful!!! We certainly will be returning :)
My visit was the best and there was a dark hansom chocolate lovely man who works there he's a server and I wish I could have sat down and have a Sweetie pie dinner.... He was a sweetie pie and sexy as they come....
Slap ya' mama good. Suggested they serve dirt just so you could say there was something you did NOT want to order. Beef short ribs...incredible. Pear AND peach cobbler...mmmm....MMMMMMM!!!! Friendly servers behind the counter and at your table. From East coast but working in St. Louis for thw week. Had lunch there because I've watched the show. Food exceeded my expectations.
I watch you show on OWN and love it. So on my trip to St Louis with my cousin to visit her son I had one request which was go to Sweetie Pies. On the weekday visit we were happy with the food and we got to see Ms Robbie & her sister Ms Linda and took pictures. So we went back on Saturday because Ms Robbie said they have karaoke from 3-7? We went and there was a line so we thought the place was packed and it was not. It was a food issue of not having enough cooked fish but Saturday is your big day. So why is this a continual issue. All the servers need customer service training including the one that give good service. All the dishes and flatware needed to be replaced because of the chipped plates & bowls. These items are over 30 years old. No restaurants in the new age uses these old heavy chipped plates plus it is a safety issue.
The food is good but Ms Robbie really needs to get a professional food manager & a professional originator to truly turn this into a major chain. If this is done correctly this could replace Golden corral/ Ryan chains.
I understand this is a family business but you need to send Charles or someone to business school while they are working for you to improve your service. This is why you are getting bad reviews.
I still love the show and love the food but I would love to see you grow so much more with service part of your business. People will come and bad reviews will go away about that part of you business and please replace the dishes ASAP. Food gets 4 stars & service 1 star.
Food was ok. Wait time wasn't bad. We were 2nd, 3rd and 4th persons in line on Sunday for 11:45 opening. Web site says 11:30 opening but staff says its actually 11:45. Sweetie Pie's should correct web site. The first food server young lady on meats should have been the last server for desserts and breads because her attitude was as if she did you a favor.. the WOMAN on sides made up for the young ladies lack thereof. The cashiers seemed disconnected. The server was great. We left him a 20% tip.CUSTOMERS SERVICE NEEDS TRAINING ON ATTITUDES.
Very great i had the Turkey leg mac & cheese an greens. I loved it i an totally blessed that i had the opportunity to meet Miss Robbie an her sister Linda. Im such a big fan we r planing to go again before the end of summer all the way from Holland MI hopefully i will get to see Tim or Charles next time :) but if not them i hope i can get my cook book i bought signed by Miss Robbie :)
Brought my mother here for mothers day weekend. I will say it was not what I was expecting. The ladies serving the food were polite to some degree, the last lady serving the desert was rude and ignored my mother she had to ask the cashier for desert, who does that. When refreshing food they need not to put old product on top of new fresh product, that is called cross contamination, and if doing so so it away from the customers, for I know that you don't do it period but things happen . Also the it is not okay to take your gloves off and do a take and slip the same gloves back on. That's cross contamination as well. I belive that everyone needs to be traded and the right things to do in food service. Imagine if I was an inspector your business would have had a big fine for negligence. Get it together!
I made my very first visit to Sweetie Pie's today with a friend and we loved it. It had been on our individual "bucket list's" for quite some time and was well worth the trip into the city. The food was delicious!! I had heard mixed reviews from friends and had also read mixed reviews on the internet but our experience was a very positive one. My meal (fried chicken wings (3), cabbage, macaroni & cheese and cornbread) was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean and well maintained. My only negative comment is that they didn't have any of their caramel cake which I had been looking forward to but it's a great reason to return for another visit very soon!!
I was really trying to do no stars but it would not allow me. I took my son there for his birthday and the place was so horrible we just left. They had no fish, the wings that they had looked like something I would not give to my hogs to eat. Yes the food looked worse than slop. The vegetables were all dried up worse than any prunes you ever saw. And to think I actually had stood in line for over half an hour waiting to finally get up there to see the garbage and all I could order were wings so since they don't give you your plate when I got down there to see the vegetables we just left our trays and walked out. Oh yeah when we were getting our utensils there were no knives and the forks were sparse no spoons. The person serving up the meat was rude. We drove down here from Milwaukee just to go to this establishment only to be utterly disgusted.
Please don't even think of spending your hard earned money at this place. Go elsewhere, where you can be seated and served rather than going here paying all your hard earned money for slop just because it's on tv.
Forget about going to this dive.

3 hour wait for over salted food. I'm really shamed of myself for standing in line. N the pie was awful. Instead of taking money in the front. The owner need to be in the back making sure the food taste amazing. I know Damn well what was served to us was not what Oprah Winfrey ate. Shameful
Came from Chicago to eat at this place. It had a lot of fuzz. I was greatly disappointed on the food. I had the wings dinner with corn and sweet potatoes. The corn was very salted and the sweet potatoes taste like they came from the can. The wings were ok but have tasted better. I was more shocked that the menu was like cafeteria style.
Won't be doing the 5 hour drive for coming back here, but still come to visit St Louis again for other things.
I visited here for the first time after hearing about it and watching the show once or twice. Im from Alabama and took my vacation in St. Louis. I waited about an hr at the door along with others who I think were together for a birthday party or family reunion. Then what urked me was that I went around opening time and they werent letting but 4 people i n the door at a time. The line did move quick though. Food was tasty and well seasoned, but how are you gonna run out of silverware? I mean, I sat down with my food and no silverware was in sight. There was none in sight, coming through the line. I asked a white guy who I assume was the manager and he said that they would get me plastic and that they ran out because alot of people were still sitting and eating. I mean, it wasnt that crowded. Some sections had empty tables and were closed off. He then was frustrated because he couldnt find the box with the plastic silverware. I finaly got some and didnt stay long. The scene was too chaotic. Needs to be more organized. I do give the food and the sweet tea an A+ ... I had fried chicken, gravy and rice and the Buttermilk Custard Pie. Well seasoned chicken and good gravy on the rice.
was a great experience for our first visit here. Andre was our server he was so personable and his customer service was great. food was good. the sweet tea lives up to its reputation. glad I got to try it. my friend's and I loved it.
Such a fantastic place. A little pricey and they serve your food cafeteria style. But it tastes fantastic. The people are friendly. Expect to pay $20.00 a person, but that's with a drink and dessert
We finally made it to Sweetie Pies in St . Louis, Missouri today. The food was most excellent & delicious. The staff were friendly & attentive. We felt like family here. The best part was getting our picture taken with Miss Linda; Miss Robbie ' s sister, she was so friendly & loving too. Great experience all around. Highly recommend a visit!!
Great, kind and friendly staff! Very attentive and always smiling. Food was good. Nothing to die for but definitely worth a try. Location may not be too appealing. Staff definitely makes up for it.
The Service was professional fast and the employees were courteous. My very first visit to Sweetie Pie's and it won't be my last! I'm from Corona, CA and I will definitely visit the Inglewood location to make sure the food is just as delicious, fresh and tasty!!

This is a great place to go eat at when you don't have home cooked meals readily available. The food reminds me of my grandma's cooking. Good old-fashioned comfort food.

Just as we were about to pull over to ask someone that looked like they worked there, he answered us before we could asked. Not busy. Perfect amount of people for me to get a feel of the place. One downfall was that the food was not hot enough. Super friendly wait staff. I didn't think twice about giving a large tip. The ladies room was georgeous!😀 Extremely delicious peach cobbler, corn and cornbread. Great Mac-n-Cheese. I could go on but, you need to experience it for yourself.
I drove from Memphis for a terrible experience. The food that was available was okay but the service was awful. After waiting in line for over an hour, we were rushed out of the restaurant at 8:00. I don't know where Miss Robbie was but her sister and staff have a different vision. They shut down dining room, began cleaning up and mopping all around us. I think this could have been a much better experience if we had chosen a different time of day. It was obvious that the staff wanted to leave at 8:00. They treated the customers like they were doing us a favor...very disappointing.
Traveled from Chicago to experience good ole "home-cooked" soul food and it lived up to our expectations. Wow. Smothered chops, baked mac and cheese and cornbread. OMG. And the lemonade was fresh made. Yes, can't wait to make this stop on another road trip.
I absolutely love this location! The staff is always nice and helpful. The lines can become very big at times but generally I try to go after the lunch rush. Try their meatloaf because it is out of this world. The mac and cheese is divine.
Everything about the place is awesome, that's why I return. In moderation, of course. But it definitely makes me think my mother is back there cooking..lol
I am posting from a tourist standpoint and hope this is helpful to others who visit in the future.
Note, that the building was difficult for us to find because there isn't a sign on the front of the building. It was moderately busy but not overwhelming.
Upon entering, there is not anyone at the door to greet you. You just approach the buffet line where you tell the ladies what you want and they dish it up for you. The choices for meat were catfish, barbecued ribs, and fried chicken wings. The sides were spaghetti, mac and cheese, green beans, sweet potatoes, cornbread, kernel corn, and mashed potatoes and gravy. There was a choice of peach and pear cobbler for dessert. In my opinion, this was a limited food selection, especially on the meat choices. I am unsure if the menu varies daily, but a bigger food selection would have been ideal.
Prices were overpriced. For two people eating one meat, two sides, and cornbread-with your choice of soft drink was $35. The food was just okay. The catfish was a tad overcooked and the sweet potatoes were too soupy. It was underwhelming to say the least.
As far as customer service, it was subpar. Our server, Tony was attentive, personable, and was not overbearing. He made our visit worthwhile. As I mentioned earlier, it would have been nice if someone would greet guests-especially people that are not from the area. I also would have like to have seen a person in management walking around to check on guests.
Additionally, while I appreciated the serving ladies replenishing the food, they were aware of the growing line of customers waiting to be served. They could have acknowledged the customers. ("Welcome to Sweetie Pies. I'll be with you in a moment." For example) Another lady did not even speak, she just shoved my side of sweet potatoes on my tray. We definitely felt rushed.
Overall, I could do without. If the customer service, food presentation, and quality improve, we may return in the future. I will also consider that it was around 6pm when we visited, and possibly could have had a better experience with a visit earlier in the day.
We made it there when the doors opened and there was already a line. We waited a little over 30 minutes in line. But it was worth it. This was my first time here. And I must say the food and service was great. Best soul food meal I've had in a while. We will definitely be back.
We came to St. Louis for a weekend getaway and had heard a lot of good reviews about Sweetie Pies, so we decided to get the experience ourselves. Well we were definitely disappointed. The customer service was great until we encountered an issue with our fried corn, which btw was burnt and tasted awful, we asked our waiter if we could exchange for something different, he took the dish up to the line server (older grouchy lady with glasses) who yelled out saying," well it's on the table now and no we cannot exchange ". That was very rude of her, in which we later found out from the waiter that we should ask for the manager. The manager (Scott) decided to finally come out and talk to us after numerous attempts from the waiter/ waitress to ask him to come over and speak with us. He came over hesitantly and apologized for the issue and replaced with a different side dish. The waiter informed us that nothing really would be done because the line server had been there for 20 years and was good friends with Ms. Robbie and she was her flunky. I feel this is very disheartening because we were customers and to be treated unfairly left a poor taste in our mouths. They were also getting ready to close and we overheard the servers yelling out loud to customers who just arrived, "hurry up and order because we're closing at 8 pm". An establishment of this magnitude should treat their customers with respect and courtesy. We will definitely not be back to that location. Ms. Robbie needs to get a better handle of her employees if she cares anything about her business. We definitely do not recommend this location at all!!!!!
The attitude at this sweetie pie location is horrible. From the beginning to the end, the ladies who serves the meat had a attitude when asked questions. the lady at the register was very rude. the only nice person I received service from was a older lady at the end of the line with a short hair cut. Who served the sides she was the only nice person there but remind you I only came for peach cobbler because I wanted ribs and ribs was not prep on Sundays. As a black owner restaurant the way they treat there customers needs to be more friendly and worked on. The first impression is the last impression and people seem to forget that. You could have the best food but if customers are treated wrong that doesn't mean anything. I wouldn't come back there ever again due to the service!
The wait was okay, the line moved pretty quickly. The food is not all it's hyped up to be. It has no flavor. The fried chicken was bland. The mac n cheese was rubbery and bland. Black eyed peas were also bland. I wouldn't come back a second time. I paid $66 dollars for 1 adult and 3kids definitely not worth the money spent.
The food is good but not so good that you can treat people the way that you do. They serve a bread with every meal. It's suppose to be my choice whether I want cornbread or dinner roll. Well you take that choice away when the dinner rolls aren't ready. This hasn't happened just once but about three or four times. If you know that these rolls take time to prepare then take the time and get it done. And if there seems to be a situation where that didn't happen, don't treat the customer like they did something wrong for wanting a bread with the meal and they don't eat cornbread. They stood there and just looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language. Then one of the cooks, the two young ladies taking the money, and Ms Robbie sister all had a little smirk and then the young lady says that'll be 50 so and so. They didn't care that what I'm paying for includes bread of which I am getting none. Customer service used to be something big, something to brag about. Not anymore. All they want is the money. And could care less if you're happy or satisfied. Such a shame
A trip to St. Louis gave us a chance to find out if the food was as good as their show maintained...IT IS! I have had yams fixed many ways during my 72. years and these are the BEST I've had! My husband is still talking about the meatloaf...really moist and the best he has had over the years. The staff were all very nice, attentive, and courteous. I can't say enough about our server, Cheyenne!! You couldn't help but smile at her personality, service, and smile. So a winner all the way around...food and people and a relaxed and friendly environment.
It's cafeteria style set up. The food is good. There are 4 main entrees and each day there are special options. I had both the fried chicken and the fried pork chop (2 different days). Both were delicious and perfectly fried. I however think the pork chop is my favorite. I had the collards, green beans, mac & cheese. And you have to try the peach cobbler. The staff were friendly. And the beautiful season saint reminded me of the auntie who said whatever she wants and are so loving. Nice place next time I'm in St. Louis I will definitely grab a plate.
I have watched Sweetie Pies on TV and had many friends who visited giving it rave reviews. Unfortunately I was in St. Louis this weekend visited the Upper Crust and am very disappointed. We arrived an hour early and there were about 10 people in front of us. Several items they said they offer was not available and there was nothing posted to let you know. When they opened the doors we waited another 20 minutes finally went thru the line and got our food and was seated.
None of the food was hot. Some of it was warm. The chicken was cold. The peach cobbler was soupy. I'm retrospect they were still putting items in the steam tables as we were moving through the line. It was if they waited til the last minute to set up and had cooked earlier in the morning or even the day before and barely got it in the oven prior to the guests arriving and had to put it out on the line. On a positive note Ms Sharon and especially our server gave great customer service and the caramel cake was amazing! I wish I would have purchased a second piece.
We got there at the perfect time of about 5:15pm on a Saturday with no line! So that was shocking, but it was a line to the door after we'd gotten or food. Got the fried wings, yams, cabbage and lemonade....DELICIOUS!!! Wings were perfect -- well seasoned (not just the skin) but not too salty, nice &crispy, meat was moist. Yams tasted line sweet potato pie filling, and cabbage was cooked down just right. The lemonade was not too tart and not too sweet, so perfect to me. My sister got green beans and mac&cheese which were both really good. She raved about the sweet tea. Great food. Good friendly service. I highly recommend it!
We went to the wrong sweetie pies. This location should be called ghetto pies. We didn't want to even want to get out of our car. However we smelled the food, and said what the heck. As we approach the door a dead bird greeted us. There was not any air and we had to eat our food there because we had nowhere else to go. The food was good, and the waitress was nice in a very ratchet way. Will I ever go back, NO... maybe at a better location.
We had about an hour wait in line but it was well worth it.
I had pot roast, rice and gravy, yams and green beans. Excellent! Gravy was a bit bland.
He had baked fish, macaroni and cheese and blacked eyed peas. Excellent!
We each got dessert, as well. Pear cobbler for him, buttermilk cream pie for me. Yum!
Highly recommend. We were told that summer is the busiest time to go so if you don't want a super long wait try spring, fall or winter perhaps.
I was excited about going to this restaurant but was quickly disappointed. Parking on the street, cost 25 cent for each 15 minutes. The signs as soon as you walk into the restaurant are rude. Lack an inviting atmosphere. Its cafeteria style. Since it was a Friday the only available items were fish and chicken wings. The side order was very limited--I got yams ( I believe they were canned) Green beans-- a little salty . My daughter had the macaroni and cheese-- the cheese was missing. The cornbread was sweet, Excellent taste and texture. No time to really think about what you want, they rudely scream-- gotta keep the line moving. The cashiers only want o know how many dinners and no Thank you for coming. The Dinning room is your basic. I heard from other there that the best time is to come on Sunday. Maybe, but I will not be going back.
We tried Sweetie Pies because we were looking for good down home cooking. What we found was over priced under-seasoned cafeteria food. Save your money and go somewhere else. The staff working behind the food line were so rude, the staff cleaning the dining room were arguing with one another and yelling. They were dropping f bombs all over the dining room while our two children ate dinner. The food was not good. The yams were way too sweet, they were out of a ton of stuff, the macaroni and cheese was cold. The green beans were desperate for ANY seasoning. The corn bread was so dry i could hardly swallow it. And the desserts had absolutely NO SUGAR in them. Apparently all the sugar went into the yams because the desserts were bland. The cobbler tasted like plain old peaches with raw dough, all you tasted in banana pudding was vanilla pudding and the pound cake was dry and tasted like a piece of regular bread. So disappointed. Ignore the hype and cook at home.
I had made a detailed review on this place after I went this past summer & haven't a clue what happened to it! I absolutely ADORED this place! The food was absolutely out of this world amazing!! I also have 2 photos that both had well over a thousand views each.
They change their menu daily so I'd check their website to see what entree's they're serving for whatever day you're going to go. The prices are fair for what they offer. The emoyees are fantastic! We were so glad that we went! I am upset that GOOGLE somehow deleted my original review!! This place deserves all the accolades!!
I would personally prefer a menu style restaurant over a cafeteria style. The food was tasty but could've be hotter to the touch. The hours of business advised that they was gonna open up at 11:30 am where in fact they opened 10 minutes or more later. There were no to go cups available so I wasn't able to take my unfinished beverage with me. The employee named Andre was awesome. He was well deserving to the generous tip that I gave him.
The only positive is that the people were really friendly. The food was luke-warm. I had the smothered pork steak which had been cooked to death. It was so hard that I couldn't get my fork in it. The mac and cheese was too salty. It tasted of Velveeta. No cheddar. The green beans needed seasoning and were cold. Thank God for the peach cobbler. It was the only thing worth eating. Anyone who knows what good soul food is won't enjoy it. It was over-priced. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!
We stood in line for more than an hour... outside during the Annual Holy Convocation, after church on Sunday. We had so many senior citizens and babies out there. I called inside but the young female "manager" had very little to no compassion. She suggested that we go to another location, if we were tired of waiting for service. Mind you, they have a banquet side, but would not open it for anyone.
I told her that several people were getting irritated, as they were visiting from all over the country. I also advised her that if I leave after this wait, I would not be visiting another of their establishments ever. In my opinion, they had poor preparation, management and customer service. The Convocation comes every year to St. Louis, so why did we have to endure this treatment for some soul food we can make at home?
We were trying to support black businesses, but it was evident that were not welcomed at Sweetie Pie's. The security guard was eventually informed to come out to address our issues. He told us that he could only bring in no more than 6 or 7 elderly people from the cold and that he had no seats for any more. When we got in, nearly half of the restaurant was empty with lots of seats available. After several other grumbles and complaints, they finally opened up the other side.
In spite of it all, our waiter, Tony was wonderful and helped our experience to be more tolerable. It is Unfortunate, we have to complain sometime to get decent service from establishments in predominately black areas. Believe me I'm not one to leave bad ratings or complain either, but this was the worst courtesy (or lack there of) I've experienced in a very long time. The owner was not there. I've met her and know that she would not have approved. Get it together you all. 😥😐😒😟😫
I want to start this review by saying that i loved Sweetie Pie's! I lived in the Grove for a couple of years and would always go to their location in the grove. Since their closing, I really feel like this business has fallen off. We hadn't been to Sweetie Pie's since march, so when my in-laws came into town this weekend to visit, we instantly agreed to have dinner there. We came in this past Sunday, my in-laws arrived before us around 7:15 (they close at 8 on Sundays) and got in line. When we arrived five minutes later, they told us that they were waiting for the staff to fry more chicken and that it would be 20 minutes. My spouse and I decided to eat something else and sit down. My in-laws decided to also get turkey legs to take back to the hotel. Ten minutes later the staff tells us that they hadn't fried the chicken and that they weren't going to fry it. Along with being served food out of styrofoam boxes, instead of actual plates, but still given normal silverware (this makes no sense to me), it was just a sad experience. This was my father-in-law's first time at the establishment and we were very ashamed to have taken him there. Our family only comes in town once or twice a year and we wanted them to have a great experience here in the city and also support a black owned business. I hope there's a change in the dynamic of the business soon, because this was truly a staple of St. Louis culture.
Also, if you're going to be considered a family restaurant, you should have high chairs or booster seats!
Went to sweeties to get a Catfish fillet meal for $15. But when I got to the register to pay for it I gave them half cash and would pay for the rest on my card. Unfortunately they told me that I couldn't pay half of the money in cash and half of the money on my card. So I just left the catfish fillet meal and went somewhere else to get dinner. So if you go to sweetie pies just know you have to pay the entire amount on your card. I am not sure if they will take cash at their restaurant. Hope this helps!
They were super busy, which was not the problem. They were not organized, did not have enough worker, the line did not move consistent. After standing in line, because I wanted the experience. Boy did we get one, a drink waste on one of our friends head, then no one even bother to come over. We are from anther state, therefore we all had to leave because their was not any way we could to eat when is sock with tea. I can’t tell how the food was because the serves was awful. We were at the one in Houston Texas.
My coworkers and I stopped at Sweetie Pie's for dinner one night after a conference. I was underwhelmed by the food for its cost; however, I may just not be a fan of southern food as my colleagues seemed to enjoy their meals greatly. Our server was a young gentleman who did a great job with checking on us and refilling our beverages.
Delicious food, but wish they had a "to go" line/menu. "Dine in" & "to go" customers stand in the same line which makes the line & the wait very long. With 2 cashiers, one serving "Dine-in" customers on the right side of the room from the door, & the other cashier serving "to go" customers on the left side of the room may help things to move a little faster. After the "to go" customers have placed their order(s), they could have a seat & maybe wait for a number to be called. I know more would have to be thought through, but just a suggestion & a start. Otherwise, love the food.
STAY AWAY - from the SMOTHERED CHICKEN WINGS. Mines was cold and gross. Fried wings are okay. The candied yams are very sweet. I couldn't afford not to finish my meal since it cost me shy of $14.00. I was at the upper crust location. Will try the Original location next.
While the food was very good and tasted homeade, the vibe inside was less than stellar. It was served cafeteria style, which wasn't that bad, but there was only 1 person working behind the counter, and her line was quickly building for a Thursday dinner rush. The portions were more than adequate as I even had leftovers to take home. They had a bar area which was completely closed off... during dinner time, and the overall dinning area could use a few updates. Would I go again, absolutely, but I would definitely be getting my food to go.
Awesome soul food the chicken was very good and the green beans were very delicious. Probably the best I've had this is a must visit if your in St Louis! Our waitress was also extremely helpful.

Definitely worth the 3 hour drive and 1 1/2 wait in line. The food was so amazing. Ppl say it's overrated but they can kiss both mine and Ms. Robbie's tail lol....just kidding. The black eyed peas were the best I've ever had in my life. The Mac N cheese was perfect....the fried chicken was the best I ever had as well. Lemonade and yams, cornbread all Devine. The greens are incredible as well. I wasn't too crazy about the baked chicken and the mashed potatoes however. Do it...go you won't be sorry...

The food was great but the one chick forgot my friend order and she had an attitude. But she finally got her food. But she cried afterward cause it really hurt her feelings. She just felt weird because she was the only white person there. Other than that it was great.
If you're used to cafeteria -style, soul food, you will be fine. A little pricey, but the nostalgia and wait staff made up for it.

$21 for a fish meal w/ 2 sides, dessert, and a can soda. Not worth it. Catfish fried really hard, but not bad flavor wise; 2nd piece was pretty salty though. The Mac n' cheese could have used the extra salt my fish had. It was really bland and forgettable. Green beans – no issues. The peach cobbler was delicious.
For the price, it was not up to par. It honestly seems, at best, a tourist trap. I will say, the staff was great and attentive. Like, I really appreciated that once seated, they were on top of waters, napkins, and other requests.

This was my second time visiting The Upper Crust location and they did not disappoint. The food was delicious and they gave us generous portions. It was also good to see some familiar faces from the Chouteau location.

Sweetie Pie's took me back to the smorgasbord days in Dayton, Ohio! Their is so much to choose from, the staff were courteous and professional. We were even given the opportunity to take group photos by our waiter and waitress. Needless to say that we left a blessed tip and invite all travelers to stop in and don't forget to try the desert! I had peach cobbler and candy yams! Great environment to have casual conversation, very friendly atmosphere. Great dining experience food was excellent!
Great food, poor service. Fried chicken to make your mouth water. It was not ready when I went through the line, so I let my server know I had an order coming up. Not too much later, I noted several customers after I had chicken. I asked my server to check on my order, and I thought I had asked him to go catch the chicken, clean it and cook it in the way he looked at me. It was served hot out the grease when I finally got it after about 20 minutes of wait time. Well-seasoned baked chicken for the healthy was the second order. Sweet tea to wash it down. It became harder to wash it down as the server seemed to disappear for long periods of time. I guess one refill must be standard per visit because that is all I got and only got it when I broke the rule and got it myself. The sweet potato pie was mediocre in taste; it was better than most frozen pies but nothing special. The yams served with my meal were more impressive.
In town for a family reunion and couldn't wait to get to Sweetie Pies. Very disappointed. Arrived approximately 6:30 pm. After standing in line for 30 minutes we were told that the only meat left was chicken and there was still a line past the door. Paid over $14.00 for (4) small chicken wings, mac & cheese, yams, corn bread and bottle water. The mac & cheese was very good, the yams had a strange taste and the corn bread was good but the bottom was burnt. My son and his girlfriend are suppose to go tomorrow and I am going to strongly advise them to save their money. Maybe Ms. Robbie should put her singing career on hold and concentrate more on her restaurant. Won't see me again.
Initially, Sweetie Pie's restaurants were staples in the community. However, this has changed due to the ridiculous increase in the price of a meal compared to other soul food restaurants. The charge for side dishes are over price and the taste has deminshed. I no longer patronize this business. Mrs Robbie should re-evaluate her standing and make proper adjustments. The After church Sunday crowd will continue to decrease. Truly dissatisfied.
This was my 3rd year at Sweetie Pies..the food portion size was adequate and well worth the price...the dining experience was much better than previous years. The line was shorter! It was a great meal..💖

We are fans of Welcome to Sweetie Pies! While in St.louis we decided to eat at this Location for some good Soul Food on a Sunday!! Its cafeteria style. So look over the menu while standing in line. ( So you won't feel rushed). The food was good and fresh, The staff was friendly, and we even got a chance to meet Ms.Robbie!! Can't wait to take our family next time!
Love this place,I try to support when ever I can. I purchased my self and my daughter a plate with dessert. I wanted 2 peach cobblers, when I got home it was "🍐 pear cobbler". I live to far to bring it back so I kept it. We where kind of dispointed because of the price I spent and the 35minute distance I drove to get there.
