How would you rate Harris-Stowe State University?
WARNING: I have not actually attended this school but I have applied and talked with the admissions staff.
The staff was really (most of the time) on top of things. I was always receiving phone call updates and when I told them phone calls did not work for me they switched to emails as it was more convenient for me. I ultimately did not choose this school because It seemed they were starting to slack. I have not received as email in about three weeks and I still have not received my financial aid package that I even asked them directly about (this is April 29 and I submitted it Feb. 15). To me, this is unacceptable and I was not willing to wait mud-summer for my financial information to come through.
My daughter goes to this awesome school
The teachers are helpful, smart and very qualified. The Administration, however, give poor quality service; they do NOT reply to emails you send directly to them, have zero sense of urgency, and will make you feel as if you don't matter.
I've recently finished my curriculum there for my degree (well, I guess I did- I wouldn't know because the Admissions Office will not respond to my emails), and getting anyone to help me with my graduation process has left me angry, mistreated, and like I don't matter.
I have spent over $40,000 at that school, but receive $4 service from the Administration. As much as I want to continue at a HBCU for a graduate degree, it certainly will NOT be with this school.
I received my degree in Secondary Education Social Science. I was placed with a great Student Teaching Opportunity my senior year, and secured a career in my degree area almost a semester before graduation. I have been employed in many districts and have been a leader in all of them. I wish I could have continued my graduate studies there. I am still very active as an Alumni I had a great experience and I am still close to my classmates professors and fellow hornet family!
New staff is awesome and I love all the teachers and tutor's who provide all necessary information and most importantly people in the library are helpful and sweet to help you in all fields.
Awesome school! I am so happy with the decision I made to attend a HBCU!-..so far, so good I have had a great learning and campus experience here!!!
I love it, all the professor are willing to give any student help if needed. You're not a number to Harris Stowe staff. I will miss this university.
Came for a TED conference and the University seemed okay. A bit historic for my taste but I'm not a student, so I can't comment on what is most likely a wonderful faculty and student body.
It is a really nice beautiful campus. Parking is an issue for larger events so arrive early, but it is an urban campus parking is an issue everywhere.
The food is terrible and the wifi sucks... Also, the customer service for this school is horrible but the classes are nice. I would give five stars if this were a community college and I only attended classes, but this isn't the case here. Harris-Stowe is an university, therefore the service should be amazing since we students have to live there. Unfortunately, the dorm life sucks.
My granddaughter is currently a freshman there still need some improvement that need to be improved but harris stowe still is a grate school
Service is terrible been waiting for a reply for a week now
Encouraged to see more positive reviews. I graduated from here in 1978.. All my teachers/professors were pretty good!!!! I never bought a book In two years. I transferred in from community college after accumulating a dismal 1.5 GPA......While at Harris I Attended 60% of my classes. Enrolled in 36 hours FOR ONE semester and pulled a 3.8 GPA. For it. Took 21 hours in summer school over an 8 week period and pulled a 4.0 GPA. Had a. Whopping 42% semester GPA. In a children's literature class and got an A because. I had the highest average on the grading curve!!!!! Graduated with a 3.5 GPA. And crossed the stage with folks that could not read. ( seriously ) . my son went here for a year. In 2013-2014. Half the time teachers did show up for class. After he had driven 35 miles to get there. On several occassions he was asked to leave learning lab or library because a teacher wanted to eat her lunch and listen to music in there and threatened to call security on him for wanting to stay and study. (HSSU fixed that problem when informed about it)
If any of my classmates are around and remember me give me a call.
There on the next level on education .
A great historic institution of higher learning which was founded way back in 1857 with awesome campus, great faculty and staff, excellent housing facilities, outstanding location and position in the heart of the city, good students and fabulous IT, computer lab, library, parking, and dinning services at a very affordable cost.
Come on down. What are you waiting for?
Terrible place ran by a very racist black power faculty. Dont even think about going here if you are White or Asian!
They fired Elizabeth Wilkins for not being black!! Unbelievable!!
Elizabeth Wilkins was fired from her job for being 'too white'' by the racist black power faculty and Dean.
BOYCOTT this place immediately!!!
A 5% graduation rate and a notoriously racist administration. Dean Latisha Smith and her 'Black Power' past just got ruled against to the sum of $5 million dollars for her blatant racism. Appeal court agreed with ruling. Latisha is a disgrace to the community.
I was very briefly interested in the daycare on the campus until I received incredibly rude and unacceptable service from a male answering the daycare phone. Earlier I had spoke to someone who seemed okay and was willing to transfer me to the accounting dept to inquire about cost. Later in the afternoon, a particular person refused to transfer me like the previous person did and said to call the operator. So I called the operator and asked for the accounting dept for the daycare and she transferred me back to the same rude male employee answering the daycare phone. I decided that if i cannot even get through to the dept that I need to speak to, on at least 2 occasions, then why would I ever trust them with a child?! Will never recommend to anyone! Save yourself the headache and hassle from dealing with miserable people who hate their job at the college and daycare and go elsewhere! God bless.
Stop saying Harris Stowe is racist. Its an hbcu, if you feel out of place then don't enroll. Nobody is forcing you to enroll at an historically black college. Great school with good people.
this place is horrible .security does nothing if you report something and choice to help students they became friends with . i was attacked by another student and i was the one suspended from the university while the attacker was able to walk free and still go which in there terms says he should be kicked out permanently while i fought the suspension. Also a good majority of the teachers only see you as a number i had a teacher who would let class out within 5 to 10 minutes when it was a hour and 40 minute class and another that refused to make sure everyone understood the problems and projects. if you go only go for a semester and don`t expect to have a happy college experience.
The financial department at HSSU is incredibly horrible. They are not transparent and lousy with information.
I may be unrolled from my classes because the financial department can't work right.
I had a great experience at Harris Stowe. I received a first class education, created solid relationships and I even got to play baseball. Some of the best years of my life. It's a small school with a hands on approach. Diversity was celebrated for all students and I'm proud to say I was a Hornet! Good school at a bargain price.
Harris-Stowe is the school that I graduated from and I love it. This school is not a racist school. I have been employed with Harris-Stowe since graduating and I seem to gain a great rapport with students, faculty and staff. I would encourage everyone to give this HBCU a try. Come and see for yourself!!
This is my sister first year she has been here for 2weeks and the dorm she lives in (bosley) has roaches it started with one now there inside her fridge crawing on the food this is not acceptable. She has called us crying many times she has never had to experience roaches living with any type of bug These dorms are to expensive for her not to feel comfortable now she has to throw away all this food .we can never get anyone on the phone so we actually have to drive four hours to go talk to someone .This is outrageous I would never tell anyone to attend this university.
Beautiful campus over all and nice theatre
I wish I would have attended a different university. Unfortunately, this administration DOES NOT care for their students. They make us wait 2-3 months just to receive OUR refund money which students use mainly to pay their bills and make sure they’re able to make it school. NO OTHER UNIVERSITY IN MISSOURI DOES THIS BUT HARRIS STOWE. They have an emergency assistance program but they wait 1-2 months just to let you know whether they’re going to assist you or not. The administration acts as if they’re just there for a paycheck rather than assisting students. If you’re not a known student administrators are reluctant to help you. Activity fees are included in the tuition BUT THEY STILL CHARGE STUDENTS FOR THE ACTIVITIES ON CAMPUS. If you wanted to save $300-400 on books by using Cheggs or another company you can’t because they automatically charge you the cost of books in your tuition which should be a decision that students make. I could go on and on about this school.
hornet nation ! 💯🐝💯
Historic Black College routed in the community.
Only my second visit, but i enjoyed the food court and its a very nice campus.
Nice small campus. Very easy to maneuver around. Tons of parking for an event that I was a part of. Good signage, nice restrooms.read this and 1 more
