How would you rate Duafe Holistic Hair Care?
I visited Duafe for the first time yesterday. I will not go back. The stylist Remi was unfriendly and greedy for money. I had two tracks that needed to be removed. She wanted $25.00 for that. My appt. was at 2:45, I was not even seen until 3:30. She told me before even looking at all of my hair she would cut it all down to an inch. Then I asked her about what color would I look nice with, she replied that she is not going to talk about color with me until my hair is healthy. Ok, I get that she felt my hair needs to be stronger before color, but answer my question. I understand you want it to get healthier before color. I can appreciate a good stylist, but I will not deal with one who has no people skills.
I came into Duafe with insane wet knots all throughout my hair, it was so bad that I knew all my hair needed to be cut off and I was trying not to freak out with that dramatic change about to happen. Those who were working on my hair during my experience there were nothing but comforting during the entire time I was there, just reassuring me that everything would turn out great which it ultimately did. I'm so glad I was recommended to this place by a family friend because I was completely impressed by their work and how well they treat their clients. I will most definitely be coming back to this place in the future!
Duafe is by the far the best hair salon I have ever been too. The staff is always very professional and efficient. I never wait. The customer service is beyond belief and I always get compliments everytime I wear a style or cut. The salon and all of its services are more of a lifestyle and community movement. It's an all around amazing experience.
I must say I was impressed with the décor and cleanliness of the salon. I had the opportunity to meet the woman who is the founder and brain behind the business Syretta. she made my visit so pleasant. She is hands on, down to earth and makes my visits a pleasure. I made the decision in 2010 to start Sister Locks, I had my consultation with my stylist Stephanie to began my journey. I have been a consistent customer and intend stay. I have never been disappointed when I come to the salon. The stylist are all professional, courteous and know how to work the hair. I always get compliments on my hair everywhere I go. I am proud to tell them Duafe is responsible for my hair perfection. Excellent Work!!!
Duafe is the the best all natural salon on the East coast! The locticians here are very professional, efficient and friendly.
I have been a client of Duafe for about six years and EVERY time I come for my appoint I am pleasantly greeted and treated with respect. I am NEVER left unattended like a majority of salon have the habit of doing to their clients.
In addition, Duafe serves light refreshments to their client, coffee, tea, fruit etc. And during the summer they even serve water ice to clients while they sit under the dryer!
If you are looking for a top notch, all natural, professional salon.... Duafe is the place to come!
I got my hair twisted here a few years back and the woman doing it basically rushed everything.. She didnt let me make up my mind about the twisting style or the size. She did it her way.. I was better off getting them done in someone's basement. Also they're very expensive.. No slacking, if you come here bring ya wallet.
I initially came to Duafe back in the late 90s when the salon was in an apartment in South Philly. I grew with them to Girard Avenue, then I combed out my locs. Coming to the salon in East Falls was like returning home. There were many staff changes, but the environment was still warm and inviting. I even recognized a few clients who also had still been there since way back when. I was wrestling with the idea of relocing my hair, but the versatility of the many different natural styles that I had been seeing. Though natural, I still had a lot of heat damage from press n curls, so I trusted the stylist Rimmy with somewhat of a chop. She gradually eased me into releasing my straight ends by doing various palm roll and cornrow styles while trimming the ends a little at a time. My first time back was in July, and now my hair is healthier, and has grown the approximately 2 inches that was cut off. Initially I was apprehensive, but I discussed these things with both Rimmy and Syreeta, the owner. I wanted to be sure that I was comfortable, and that Rimmy was proficient. She was new to the city and the salon, so I was nervous about placing my trust with a stranger. I just left the salon today and I am still as happy with the service as I was 15 years ago, and have been the past 8 months. There was a minor hiccup with a misscheduled appointment a few weeks ago, but the staff worked hard to fit me in when they realized the clerical error that was made on their behalf. I HIGHLY recommend this salon to anyone who enjoys their hair, and is seeking quality, reasonably priced, holistic (LOVE their homemade products!) hair care. The staff is pleasant, stylists are knowledgeable, and the owner is very fair and open to discussing your experiences.
"IRISE" did not rise to the expectation of customer service. She argued and another employee bumped my fiance without any manners. Once confronted with their rudeness, IRISE states, "I'm the level headed one between myself and the owner". Overall, their rudeness overshadowed their long-hard reputation for doing natural hair. This transition is spiritual and should be embraced not shoved. Well...what do you expect from an urban salon #shouldersshrugged
This place is amazing. I made a same day appointment and she squeezed me in. Although we've never met Syreeta realized the deeper issues I was facing immediately and offered her assistance in addition to fixing my locs. She asked many questions before starting and my hair looks wonderful! I enjoyed my experience so much I will be returning and I highly recommend everyone else to check it out as well.
This shop is amazing !! Everyone in the shop is beautiful and very professional people. My stylist syritea is amazing !!
In response to Mr. Eric Adkins review last week, your fiancée LIED to you. Ms. Irize did nothing to your fiancée, she came in with a bad attitude. So, before you make another review, please get the facts. I was waiting to get my hair done and I saw the who thing. Ms. Irize handled herself very professional. By the way, I enjoyed my service.
I visited the new location for the first time on June 9, 2015. The exterior is different, but when you walk in, it still looks like Duafe! The new layout allows more room in the waiting area and more room around the stylists' stations. Everything is beautifully decorated, clean, new and shiny. The salon even smells great! I was scheduled to have my hair flat ironed on the day of my daughter's sweet 16 birthday party. Clearly, an important visit for me. Unfortunately, due to an emergency, my stylist was not able to make it to the salon that day. Another stylist, Kat, stepped up and offered to do my hair. She did a fabulous job and had me out of the salon in less than an hour and a half, which saved the day! I was able to host my daughter's event looking fabulous. Thank you, Duafe and Kat!
Haven't been to Duafe in a while. Went to the new location and it looks great! Service was wonderful. I left feeling like a new woman. I got a good price and a complementary hot oil treatment! Staff is cheerful professional, and free snacks! I will definitely be going back.
This salon is very beautiful and the stylists are knowledgeable about what they do. It's a great place to go for natural hair maintenance. The prices are ok depending on your budget. I always think that if my hair cost more than a bill then I need to rethink it, especially if I'm not putting a weave in. I am giving this salon 1 star, I really don't want to because I love black owned businesses. Unfortunately, the cockiness and the attitudes I came across were not pleasant. I will not say names because that's not why I am leaving a review. However, management and/or owner please re-school the employees on customer satisfaction. You can have the best salon in the world and be successful but if people don't like the atmosphere, that takes away from your business over time. From reading the reviews, I am not the only one. I even read some of the responses the owner left and could sense some attitude. I even seen someone come back at a previous customer for leaving a review. Very unprofessional. You guys do great work, but something needs to be changed about this.
I have been hearing about this salon for a while, and I finally decided to have a consultation and styling. I called and was given a same-day appointment by the receptionist. The conversation was so pleasant and made me want to visit the salon even more. When I arrived, I waited for one hour and 15 minutes to be seen. I had a 2pm appointment but wasn't taken to be shampooed until around 3:15. One of the reasons I didn't leave was because I conversed with a nice lady in the waiting area. She gave me the 411 on the salon and all the stylists. I had an appointment with Kat, but Syreeta (the owner) took me to be shampooed because she knew my stylist was behind. The shampoo was awesome and it smelled heavenly (bought some before leaving).
My stylist, Kat, was knowledgable and patient. I asked many questions about what I needed to do with my hair. She answered and made recommendations. I love when stylist aren't pushing products and telling me to spend more money to obtain what I want.
Also, in the waiting area, there is water and snacks for customers!
My style was EXACTLY what I wanted and it didn't break my bank. Upon my next visit, I will not wait as long and will be sure to communicate this. I would have given the visit five stars if not for the wait. All in all, great experience.
From start to finish, my experience at Duafe was top-notch! Owner Syreeta was compassionate, knowledgeable, and patient with all my questions. And my hair was FLAWLESS when she finished! She is more than a stylist: she's a bona fide hair whisperer who is nursing my hair back to health.
As women and let's be clear as black women hair is VERY real for us! With that being said going "natural" isn't always easy for us, in my experience (this is my 4th time) it was NEVER easy until I met Rimmy!!!! Rimmy is everything every natural girl dreams of, she's 1) fierce! 2) patient (she literally walked me through every process) 3) she is blessed by the hair shaping GODS!!!!! It took me a couple weeks to book an appointment but she is WELL worth the wait!! If you want thee very best in hair care and shaping book your appointment with Ms. Rimmy Sparkles today you won't regret it!
As for the salon... Duafe is one of thee best salons I've been too in the city... The salon itself makes you feel like you're right at home, the staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. My wait wasn't long at all, Rimmy started my hair on time and everything was quick and seamless.
So if you're ever in the city or you need your hair done just stop past 22nd street.... You won't be disappointed!
First time getting my hair done at Duafe I did my undergraduate education at Temple University and always was familiar with the salon but never made an appointment. Needless to say after not being able to find salon that I liked in New York and or met my hair needs, I ventured back to Philadelphia to visit some friends and made an appointment. From the time I walked in, to getting my hair washed, to my hair being interlocked, the service was great and the atmosphere was wonderful. It is big family and all the stylists make you want to come back!! Larry took care of my hair that was long over due for a maintenance and he is EXCELLENT!!!! My hair is laid, love my style! Stop in you will not be disappointed!
I went to Duafe for the first time this past Thursday and got my hair done by Kat. I was extremely nervous as I just restarted my natural hair journey and have never had anyone do my natural hair. I was also there for my hair to be shaped and Kat really explained how it would effect the shape of my hair if I decided to to straighten my hair from Time to time. She was very gentle and took her time explaining to me I what each decision would mean for my hair. After shaping my hair she did a flat twist out for me and when I took it out later at home it was amazing. The Duafe products she used provided me so much moisture without being greasy and more hold then I have ever had. My curls stayed for days without having to be restyled or remoisturized. I would HIGHLY recommend this salon if you are in the tri state area. The service was not only impeccable but the customer service and general warm environment was a breath of fresh air. I will absolutely be going back to maintain my shape as my hair grows and also to purchase the products used on my hair. I have spent hundreds of dollars on hair products that have not provided me nearly as much hold, shine, definition, and moisture as the whipped and hair and body butter did.
New location same quality!!!This was my first time at Duafe's new location and Priscilla was my stylist. From the moment I entered the salon, I was treated like a valuable customer. I was offered tea and able to be accommodated by receiving services in another room because of my religious beliefs. Priscilla did an amazing job at joining with me as I transitioned into becoming chemical free. She patiently took her time while cutting my hair and I was aware of the process. What I appreciate most about my experience is how much Priscilla took pride in making sure I was satisfied as a customer. I will be visiting Duafe again really soon. Thank you Priscilla!
I won't even go through the long and drawn out story about what it took to get my hair coiffed at the famed Duafe salon because the end result outweighed the trouble greatly! I was seen by Kat. She was amazingly awesome! With a very limited amount of time she cut my hair in the most perfect tapered cut and styled it in a wash and go. The products smelled fantastic. The sweet tea oil was my fave! I'm impressed to say the least. Syreeta was very humble and apologetic in reference to all that had happened before my actual appointment and even gave me a complimentary hot oil treatment! I can not wait to go back again. I heard about this place ages ago and I'm so upset it took me this long too actually make an appointment! Kudos to Duafe!
I loved this salon but because how I was treated by the owner I no longer go she despercted me in front of other customer I ask her where Tia was and she went off on me smh I come from new Jersey to get my hair done bad customer service . To say I never went there wow so unprofessional,Tia was my styles very nice girl she started my locs before you moved I came to Scott Lane every month but ok but you did get smart with so own it not a good owner
This salon is like no other! Quality work, professional people and a very nice atmosphere. Thalia, was excellent, hands down. Im very picky when it comes to my hair and don't trust many. But this place here, you don't even have to worry about a thing. This is the place you can trust! See you all soon and thanks again!!!
Awesome natural hair care salon. I brought my sister-in-law here today and I knew she would love it. Great ambiance: The aroma is calming, EVERYONE is welcomed warmly, awesome music and smiling faces. My S-I-L's stylist Thalia was very warm and attentive and of course talented! We will be back.
My experience was so therapeutic. It started from the beginning...getting my hair washed was relaxing and the basin was just what my scalp needed!! Thalia did a wonderful loc style for me. The style I was given was perfect to help my hair get back to its natural state. I brought my daughter in for her Duafe experience . Being a mother of three...it was the perfect escape! Its such a great way to treat yourself.
My Duafe experience was absolutely amazing! The vibes were so legit and comforting. I was taken as a walk in client and Katie took the time to truly figure out my wants AND needs for hair care. The consultation given was so valuable. I received my first rod set and cannot wait to step out and show out!
A very friendly & comfortable environment. The stylists here are nice, open to suggestions & genuinely care about the customers experience. The products smells good & are healthy for all hair types. The stylist keeps their appointments. Not a gossip environment--the conversation is positive! Overall a lovely, natural hair caring place. Highly recommended!
I've lived in the Philadelphia area for 2 years now. Since I've moved here I've tried many salons and this is BY FAR the best. My hair was been styled by 3 professionals (Priscilla, Thalia and Larry) since I started coming here late 2015. All were phenomenal. They all took the time to educate me on my hair, told me what to expect when starting locs and how to maintain them. I would genuinely choose anyone in the salon to style my hair.
The entire salon is an atmosphere that is welcoming and inclusive. I felt comfortable from the very moment I stepped in the salon. This place is top of the line!
Oh and make sure you get a bag of Larry's popcorn. It's delicious!
loc'd. Excited to take this journey with my hair. ❤️ started my locs on my birthday weekend and I love it already! My stylist , Thalia knew exactly what to do!! For the hottest trends in natural hair paired with the best hair care and positive vibes, Visit Duafe Holistic Hair Care. Each stylist is well versed and they offer the best hair care products!! Did I mention you'll get the best wash that is nothing short of paradise?! You could fall asleep at the shampoo bowl.
Went there for the first time 2 weeks ago, and Priscilla did an AMAZING job cutting my hair! The stylist there are very knowledgable about natural hair, and make sure to walk you through the process of what you want done to your hair. I am so glad I did NOT listen to the negative reviews about price--this place is not only affordable, but they list the prices for the services on the wall (and my stylist told me prices of cuts before they started.) Honestly, you pay for what you get, and that was one of the best natural hair experiences I had in a LONG time. Cant wait to go back for my highlights!
I heard so much about Duafe prior to going and wanted to give it a try. Went yesterday for the first time just to get my hair braided back in a bun and was very pleased with the experience. The fact that I was able to be serviced just walking in was a plus! The atmosphere was relaxing and the people were pleasant. The receptionist was very helpful and didn't seem bothered by my many questions (as some establishments can be). My stylist was very professional and jumped right in to getting me serviced. The shampoo and conditioning experience was soothing and the oil she used on my hair was amazing! It's called Passion and the smell is unbelievable! I wanted to buy a bottle but she was all out. Miss Scott - if you read this review, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know when you have more of the passion oil. This stuff smells so good, I'd use it as a scent in my house if I could burn the oil in a pot.
I needed an updo for a wedding I was in and decided on getting Havana twists styled in an updo. Michelle did my hair and she did a beautiful job.. I especially loved how she parted my hair throughout which made the style that much more special.. it was very elegant and just what I wanted. The products she used gave it a nice sheen and smelled so good. She was very patient with me and listened to my needs... everyone in the salon was very friendly and I enjoyed the popcorn that one of the stylist sells (bought 2 bags), so delicious... will be visiting again for all my hair style and care needs.
Shout out to Duafe and my stylist Priscilla she always has my hair on point. #rodset #ilovemynaturalhair #lovemyredhair #lovemycurls
Great atmosphere. Love the salon art works! Recommended by a friend to see Christina. She was very professional yet down to earth and funny. My color came out bold and beautiful. Do yourself a favor and try the sweet tea oil on your hair while you're there. This salon comes highly recommended by many but it is pricey so be prepared. However, I doubt you'll have a bad experience there as the stylists are sweet and very holistic in their management of our natural hair.
Amazing experience! Absolutely one of the best, if not THE BEST hairdressing experiences of my life! I had never been to Duafe before and I had never had my natural hair done in a way that showcased my curl pattern but I LOVE it. Christina was my stylist and she made me feel comfortable and at home from the very start. She has such a warm and welcoming personality (the rest of the staff were very nice too) I didn't have to wait long at all to be seen and from the time Christina introduced herself I felt confident that I was in good hands. She proved me right! I asked for a cut and wash and go and it turned out beautifully!! I couldn't stop looking at myself in mirrors and I'm trying so hard to keep my hands out of my hair because it feels so healthy and soft!! I can't remember the last time I felt so beautiful and confident coming out of a hairdresser. She is amazing and I will definitely be back!!
Best experience I've had so far at a salon period. Everyone was super nice & welcoming made me feel like I was at home! Ginevee styled my TWA so perfectly & was very very educated on natural hair.
Duafe is the best hair salon I have experienced in Philly!! Kat took great care of me! She is extremely knowledgeable with all things natural and made me feel comfortable while I got my BIG CHOP. I highly recommend if you're looking for a professional, clean environment with knowledgeable staff. I plan to come back regularly!!
I was very unhappy with my haircut. I did not feel that the stylist truly had experience shaping curly hair. She initially wanted to cut it soaking wet and I had to explain to her that my hair shrinks as it dries and that I have multiple curl types. She seemed not to have considered this. Additionally, she loaded my hair down with product and separated the curls not allowing them to clump together. When my hair dried it was crunchy and stringy. After have a discussion about the shape and even providing a picture, she did the opposite of what I asked. I said I simply wanted a shape- I want to maintain my length as much as possible. To be clear, I've never been afraid of short haircuts- and I fully realize that hair grows back. The point is that is not what I wanted. She even said don't worry I'm not a chopper and then proceeded to cut at least four inches. I walked in with hair that was reaching my breast/ chest area and walked out with hair that barely reached my neck. She cut waaaay more off then was needed. I was extremely disappointed and the price was also not what the quote over the phone.
Update: I was contacted by the salon manager the day after- asking about my experience. They were very apologetic and accommodating. They even asked what they could do to possibly make it better. I was impressed by this- they obviously care. We are still working towards reaching a possible solution so that this isn't what my experience at Duafe is. We'll see what happens.
Wanted to experiment with how to style my natural hair, and I'm not really a risk-taker.
I was really pleased with my wash and go.
It looked great! The hair product were awesome and the vibe of the place is really down-to-earth, but still a bit of luxury.
Will definitely be back.
Good experience not please with choosen style..way too tight . But overall well done
I love this place! A little pricey on some things but still love the atmosphere, stylists, and experience
OMG! This salon is phenomenal! PLEASE whatever you do, do NOT go by the reviews!! Michelle and Geneva tag teamed my hairstyle working together and the style I chose was very difficult. They understood my vision and took it way beyond what I expected!!! i had to call over the owner, Syreeta to rave about my experience. Often times, people broadcast experiences they aren't happy with. I always make sure that when I have excellent service I let as many people know as possible. You HAVE to give this salon a try. We need to keep supporting "our" communities... When it comes to good hair care this is where you should start. Thanks for everything Geneva and Michelle. I am one of your newest loyal fans!!!
Update- Reply to owner 4/24/17:Thanks for your response. The client and staff members are not being honest in regards to what took place at the time of service. I’m not surprised by your insensitive response as a I have read several of your negative responses on this platform to other outraged customers. I never told any of your staff members that I never had time to take care of my hair. That's just ridiculous! I merely stated that I had not had a trim for quite sometime but never did I say that I did not have time to take care of my own hair. One of your shampoo assistants commented that I had long thick hair when I came in for my visit. I simply was there for a trim and did not receive the services that I requested. If this establishment claims to deal with natural hair then there should have never been the type of discord that I endured at your establishment, as a customer. Geneva and Lynette were rude and unprofessional. I understand that staff members have personal lives, yet it is simply inappropriate and unprofessional to voice personal problems in front of clients. I will also reiterate that I was told that Geneva did not have any clients during my time of service. A professional establishment that deals with real natural hair should be equipped to handle the natural hair that many African Americans have. Instead, I heard a lot of excuses at the time of service and in the tone of your inappropriate response. As a professional and the owner I am repulsed that you replied that I stiffed you. That is an insult to my character and an unfair account of the real facts that actually took place on that day "alternative facts". As an African American I love to support African -American businesses, but some of us have to do better. I was talked to in a bullying manner with the intentions of making me feel inferior about my hair and it was done in front of customers. It was aggressive and I was followed outside in a threatening manner. I actually didn’t feel safe. So I expected your response as the owner to be a little more apologetic instead of stating false accusations. This is unacceptable. I asked for a service that costs $20 dollars and when it was all over, I was billed to pay 50 dollars without even receiving the service. Your staff should have assessed this cost prior to service and they should have communicated this in the beginning.Last time I checked, customers only pay what he or she asks for and receives. I didn’t receive the service so I did not pay the fee. Thanks but no thanks :(
I have had the best experiences going here. I have natural hair and this is the only salon I trust with my hair. The stylist I see is Kat and she is amazing. She is very knowledgeable and pleasant. She turns my hair from drab to fabulous EVERY time. If you are interested in visiting this shop. You must see Kat.
I've been going to Duafe Hair Salon for almost a year and Kat is FANTASTIC! She really knows about hair care which was of utmost importance to me and she works together with her clients to create hair styles that work for them. She makes sure that when you leave her chair you look great and are pleased with her services! Love her!
Duafe is where precisely where excellence meets perfection!!
I can honestly say my experience from start to finish was nothing short of awesome!! ATMOSPHERE...PERSONALITY....AND POSITIVE ENERGY. My stylist Priscilla was professional patient and knowledgeable. I showed her an image of what I wanted. She switched gears and delivered!!! My hair is BOUNCING FULL OF CURLS AND SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!!! WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE...YOU BETTA BELIEVE IT..FROM THE FRONT DESK TO THE SHAMPOO BOWL..TO MY STYLIST!! I COULD GO ON AND ON...I HAD A JOYOUS DAY AND LEFT FEELING LIGHT HEARTED..WITH MY HAIR LOOKING LIKE A MILLION...
I've been in search for a home salon for years now, and just when I began to lose hope, I stumbled amongst Duafe. I left feeling the same way I felt as a little girl once my mother released her hands from my head, loved and beautiful, there was no rush no careless manners, nothing but love. If you have not found your home salon visit Duafe they definitely live up to their name, and the atmosphere is more than what may be expected. Ase sisters many blessing on this hair journey.
I'm so disappointed in writing this review because I thought that I finally found a salon that was experted in natural hair but i just left wanting to cry. My appointment for ONLY a wash and go and trim was scheduled for yesterday(8/25) at 11:30 to where I was late arriving at 11:45 leading me to think that I'd either be turned away or rescheduled but when I came in I was taken after 5 minutes. The girl shampooing my hair did great detangling my hair which wasn't the issue. The Problem came when I went to get it styled, the stylist I had named Michelle was pointing out to an intern how much heat damage I had and stressed how badly she wanted to cut it yet couldn't because as a client it wasn't what I asked for. But then proceeded to put a rod set that I did not ask for in my hair because it "wouldn't curl because of the damage". While putting the rod set that I did not want, someone yelled they were surprised she was doing curls given she normally does braids which made me even more nervous being my first time here. Then continued with how different and well done a wash and go there would be in comparison to ones I've done at home to imply how much I'd love the difference. Then I was placed under a drying for about 45 minutes which at this point it's 3:00. Then was taken back out by another stylist named Kat and told my hair was too wet and placed back under with extra hot air originally timed for another hour which made no sense to me since my hair is "excessively heat damaged". The dryer got so hot I had to lift it every now and then for cool air flow and nobody stopped over to lower it so I had to turn the timer and hear level down myself...After being taken back out and the rods taken out my hair looked awful. It was large afro that looked almost like a wig and brought me to tears when I left. My hair today looks terrible after trying to fix it and my bill that originally should have been between $50-60 with a style I'd be content with that ran up to about $85 with a terrible style and a service I didn't even ask for and winding up not leaving the store until 4:45 for what was only supposed to be a wash and go and a trim. To be honest the amount I spent really could've been spent less and better elsewhere or done myself. The only reason I'm even giving 2 starts is because the shampoo girl was very thorough and the store was clean. This was the worst experience I've ever had in a salon leaving me crying for wasting that much money.
I had my second appointment with Kat today and so far I've been very pleased. I read countless reviews before deciding to make an appointment at Duafe, and went with Kat because she was mentioned numerous times in reviews as the go-to stylist. She gave me the cutest cut and rod set (I had semi big chopped my natural hair a few days prior to my first appointment with Kat and it needed some more cutting and TLC.) The finished product was super cute and I got so many compliments. Kat is very personable, down to earth and even only being two appointments in, I trust her judgment with my hair. Highly recommend Kat!
This the most professional hair Damon i have been to since moving here.... not only did they have great customer service you can see the passion in their work...... grade A
The first time I went to Duafe, 3 years ago, I was enamored with the atmosphere. The friendly hair experts, the natural hair productions and the colored woman all seemed to be very knowledgeable about my hair. It made me very comfortable. I came and had two strand twists and bantu knots and paid 180$. This was pricey for me as a college student but I came up with the money because I knew my hair wasn’t going to get the specialize hair care on campus amongst my friends. The first time it was perfect. I loved it. I loved it so much, I saved up money to get the same hairstyle twice more within the next year. The second and third time I got the hairstyle, the quality of work digressed and deeply disappointed me, especially for someone traveling 2 hours from school on the bus and paying money I saved up for, on a college student budget. I did not tell my hair expert how I felt because I didn’t want to seem picky or unappreciative but Duafe lost me as a customer because of this. I recently returned this week because I needed my ends trimmed. I was hesitant because of my last two experiences there but I choose to travel to them. Once again, I was in love with the service, beautiful facility and friendly welcoming attitude of the hair experts. My hair was trimmed by a Bree and she did an excellent job. I was a bit embarrassed that I had washed my hair 5 days before and it had already started flaking up from it being dry, she was able to give me superb suggestions to remedy this problem. I set up another appointment with her in the future. Duafe has gained me as a customer again. It’s nice to know I have somewhere to go for specialized attention for my natural hair.
My only qualm with this visit was my wait to pay. The woman who was in charge of setting up schedules and taking payment was nice but needed more training using the computer. Another woman at Duafe tried to assist her and was much more technologically savy. She was able to assist he customers in the building line much faster.
What an absolutely beautiful experience i had at Duafe today. All of the sisters here have such excellent energy..I was in Philly for a wedding and needed a very last minute appointment and the beautiful LYNETTE worked me in that day with THALIA. From the time I set the appointment, to the shampoo, to the Banging style that Thalia did, I knew I was in God's hands and that is not a statement i say lightly. GO to Duafe and see Thalia. What beautiful souls you are, Thalia and Lynette .
Friendly, attentive, prompt service. Cool, relaxing atmosphere. Loved my hair. Who did dat? Geneva!
Bri does my hair. It's always beautiful when she's done. I love everything from the wash to the atmosphere to the professionalism displayed and practiced here. This is my new salon. I've been going every two weeks for 2 months now. Love this place!
I had a beautiful experience at Duafe Hair Salon. Not only did my hair turn out GREAT!! Everyone was friendly and the salon was very clean. It was nice to look around and see amazing sculptures from Africa and a few pieces of art from local artists. Lanese is the stylist that done my hair and she NAILED IT!!!! This young lady took her time to answer all my questions, then she created a visual so I can choose which style best fit me. This was the happiest I have been in long time leaving a hair salon.
The Products!! Were the best!! The products are all hand made by the owner. My hair was soooo soft after it was shampooed and there were no flakes in site once my hair was dry. The oils were so lite with a really nice soft scent. I could not leave the salon without a bottle of oil for personal use.
The Owner. That young Queen makes you feel like you are an old friend. She greets and talks to everyone. She was so warm, humble and it was a joy to have met her.
I have found my hair salon and stylist!!!
Best Natural Hair Care Salon in Philly! I met people who travelled from Florida, Maryland and upstate New Jersey in the same day, for the Duafe' Experience! Great Family of stylists! They even fed EVERYONE in the shop, including the clients!!
A few years back, Atlanta Black Star published a piece entitled, “Black Hair Salons Failing Black Women.” In it describes how black hair salons are the only industry where black Women dominate. If anyone should be working for the best interest of black women it should be other black women. “But what we get is blatant disrespect of our time, without any trace of remorse. These places go about business in this ridiculous way, as if that is the way it should be, as if it is all right, acceptable,” it states.
That was my experience at Duafe Hair Salon.
My appointment was originally set for 7 pm on a Friday. They called to see if they could move the appointment to 5:30 because they had a cancellation. I agreed. I came to Philadelphia specifically to get my hair done at this natural hair care salon after spending weeks damaging my hair in the woods during military training. Since it was a late afternoon appointment I rented a hotel room for the night. I traveled an hour to get to town, fought rush hour traffic to get to the neighborhood then, after parking, I walked around the block in the dark and harsh weather (which was little more than high wind, and slush from the non-sticking snow) to learn that the salon had closed early for the night! If you couldn’t get a hold of me to cancel, the professional thing to do would be to be there when I got there. It made me wonder if weather was the reason for the early closure (as they said) or a Friday night on the town was the real reason. Either way, I was out of a couple hundred dollars and an entire day of my life.
Now my hair wasn’t suitable for work, nor was it suitable for date night (when you haven’t see your boo in forever and now he has to look at you with a raggedy head straight from woods…that was me), and it was too last minute to try another salon. I had a lot riding on this appointment. I put in time, money and effort to keep the appointment and this salon didn’t respect me or my time enough to do the same. It’s pretty unprofessional. If it’s a high stakes hair job (job interview, wedding, date, etc), I’d pass on this salon.
The stylish twisted my hair in the opposite direction, love started falling out and the owner asked if I had a pattern of male baldness in my family. Now there's no bald spots just missing love. I cutting my hair and trying a new stylist
Duafe is a pretty good salon. I started my locs here 9 months ago and was satisfied with the results. My experience has always been average until recently when I had the pleasure to have Lanise(I think that's how you spell it) style my hair. Not only did she do a great job on my retwist, but she gave me a style that complimented my round race and she was very attentive to my needs. I was having a terrible day, but she made me feel so much better. Her personality is great and definitely makes me want to schedule with her and only her.
I went to Duafe for my starter locs. This was the first time locking my hair and it came out better than what i expected. Michelle not only did my hair but broke down to me what I need to do after. Its a great homely atmosphere and I would recommend them to anybody I come across.
Today was my first time at Duafe. I love my hair. I had several compliments. Kat, you have calming, magic hands. My daughter called me fancy. See you in weeks
Today was my first experience at Duafe. I got a styled cut and a wash and go. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. My curls have never been this defined before and my cut looks great. I will definetly be going back.
Absolutely Loved It!
Duafe Holstic Hair Salon is outstanding for personal care. From your entrance to the salon you will see awards of excellence they have received > shampoo bowl > stylist chair they are constantly refining your service. They customize the service you receive.
I believe they are the best hair specialist in the tri-state area. No funny business. If your hair is important to you ... this is the place. They have had additional training plus are willing to work with your dermatologist to ensure a healthy scalp, healthy, shiny hair. The owner of the business takes your care personally. She watches over everyone: you, your hair, scalp. She is not in it to make a dollar. You represent her and her business, she wants the BEST FOR YOU. SHE WILL ONLY HIRE THE BEST & THEY GO THROUGH ADDITIONAL TRAINING ONCE THEY JOIN HER "PRACTICE".
I like their weekly specials. I call before scheduling to see which day of the week will have Senior Specials. I like the fact it not a set day. Some people have doctors appts that prevent them from receiving discounts if only on set days. By it being movable every senior gets a chance to receive a discount sometime in the month.
Personal care is high on their list of care. They prepare allergy free, all natural conditioners addressing your particular needs. They make excellent suggestions and will refuse service if they feel the product or style is harmful to your scalp or needs. They are in the business of growing hair, no chemical perms, etc.
The men have 3 excellent male stylist and technicians as well as the women. One blows my mind, he is intelligent beyond day to day. It's not Fake, when his children come into the shop you'll understand they are a chip off the block. His styles are awesome. Another is stylish from top to bottom. He is so very professional that he can make suggestions for in the workplace, special events, celebrities. He's too is a Master Stylist. The last one is pure joy. She is also an out of this world stylist. Knowledgeable of Herbal treatments for your hair and scalp.
Her energy is pure.
There is a little boutique next door which offers everything from literature, jewelry, clothing, gifts, handmade objects.
The entire shop is a serene setting. I enjoy every visit. No gossip. Real intelligent conversations. Lessons in hair care. Encouragement!
Sit back and Enjoy!
I don't usually try out new stylists on a whim so I was just a little nervous. I called for a last minute appointment and they fit me in for an end of the day appointment with Deanna. I hadn't met her before so that made me more nervous. The shop is always clean and well decorated and all the staff are very warm and inviting.
When my service began with Deanna I knew I was in good hands... despite the fact that it was late when we started, she took her time and took great care of me. She eased my fears and overall impressed me greatly! I'll be personally requesting her on my next visit...

From the receptionist to the assistant the clients and the stylists you just feel respected. Also the only salon I have been comfortable to take a child for service. A very positive atmosphere.
