How would you rate Ortanique On The Mile?
I was with 5 other people. I had an appetizer, a martini, salad, and another appetizer as my entrée and a latte. The service was impeccable. And the menus are illuminated.....
I was sold this restaurant by a fellow Jamaican. I am sorry to report, any authentic Jamaican cannot possibly walk away form this restaurant with true cultural Jamaican experience after eating the West Indian Cornish Hen.
This was nothing more than tasteless white baked chicken at a high price.
Wonderful combination of flavors
FRENCH STYLE JAMAICAN FARE - SUPERB FISH DISHES.
Lunch deal is very good value for money. Friendly service, nice environment. Decent food.
Simply the bestttt. The only issue I always have is that you have to wait to get a table cause they are almost always booked.
EXTRAORDINARY! Excellent quality of food, delicious dishes and authentic Caribbean flavors. The cheese plate, seafood, wine selection and specially the service starting with the host to the waitress was extraordinary.
Food was delicious and the service was as it should be. Service was there when they had to be and not there when they weren't needed. I don't like being overly served. I like to have uninterrupted conversations and out servers did a great job at attending to us at the right moments.
Great ambience and great food. Interesting menu pairings.
Great sevice, delicious food! Great mix of color within the dish :)
I just can't believe how amazing this restaurant is. Despite being perpetually booked in advance, if you can manage a reservation for a special occasion, you'll walk away smiling. Service and atmosphere are exceptionally classy. The food is always impressively prepared and adorned with exotic flavors. Their chef (Cindy Hudson) is inordinately talented. An unequivocal dining experience in Coral Gables.
Very creative Caribbean menu. I had the double pork chops and I'd recommend it. Great cocktails, too.
Best Caribbean food of my life. Service the best! And forever saving the best memory of this place!
Disappointed with the Ceviche . Over done in lime juice and when the waiter told me it's done fresh everyday and it's sits in lime juice for hours that's a no go.
Good breakfast, with good service
Really excellent palm salad & rum cake. Good atmosphere and location. Apparently on Tuesdays, the whole wine menu is half price. I hope to come back on a Tuesday lol.
We liked here everything.Food, atmosphere and quality service. Brilliant job
Always pleasant and food always fresh and masterfully elaborated and presented.
A fun and delightful place!!!!!
Excellent food, tasty dishes, good service as well, love the place
Exelent service, good food
Very good food
Best Caribbean seafood in the Caribbean. I've been a fan since it opened and it never disssapoints. The service is excellent. Wine list ... check.... appetizerszzz.... check...desserts... check. Nothing not too love.
Excellent service, excellent food i will come back all family loved it prices are excellent for the quality i reconmend this restaurant to all my friends thank you .rafael l rebustillo ,sun services inc (pest control)
I cannot wait to return to Coral Gables to visit this place again. After my meal I contemplated ordering more to-go. Ridiculously good! Gosh!!!
The service was subpar, slow and not very helpful with menu. The serving sizes were ridiculously small. I ordered what I thought was a churrasco steak, and I received 5 medallion pieces of steak, very disappointing considering the price. My wife ordered the salmon, as she always does, and has never been served such a small piece anywhere, half of a normal serving. No value and way over priced. Only gave 1 stars for ambiance which was nice. Would not go again.
Excellent Caribbean cuisine, good portions and happy hour specials.
Hudson is a chef (not a cook) creating Caribbean inspired masterpieces unique to her restaurant. The wait staff are professional and quite knowledgeable about the menu and its ingredients. The ambience is serene. One of Miami's best.
When you go out to a restaurant you're expecting a flavorful and special food; my wife and i ordered a lobster risotto unfortunately it doesn't taste as lobster, topping shrimp as garnish it didn't even mention it on the menu and rice was over cooked. We hope the chef could read this as soon as possible.
The food was delicious! I ordered from the 'restaurant of the week' menu and wow, it's a bang for your buck! 3 course meal for just $25! Everything we ordered was excellent and the service was stellar! My husband and I will be coming back!!!
Fabulous consistent Caribbean food. Great chef who cares. Tuna is great and the hog snapper is fabulous. Great drinks and very professional staff. Expensive but worth it.
Food is amazing so much taste its like heaven in your mouth..my taste buds where exploding with many diffrent flavors its out of this world..the service is fast and friendly warm enviornment taste of the Caribbean with out actually being there..i would dedinently go again..
I saw this restaurant and was struck by the beauty and ambience of the photos I saw on open table, so I decided to make a reservation for my dear friends birthday, especially since they promote 50% off on select wines for Tuesday night. When I called to reconfirm my reservation, I told The host my reservation time, and her response was the reason I decided to cancel my reservation.
The reservation was made at 9:30 pm 30 minutes before closing, mainly because we were driving north an hour away to get there in regards of coming early. I was told to come early as to not upset the waiters, who might be in an urge to leave, and was told to expect an empty restaurant if I wanted to come at that time.
In all my years of working in a restaurant, and enjoying new restaurant experiences, this attitude was a huge turn off and unfortunately I have no desire to experience what this restaurant had to offer . Please encourage your staff to change their attitude when it comes to guest satisfaction and Customer Service via telephone. I've never spoken with a host who turned away or discouraged potential service because a reservation time, that was not to their satisfaction. Very disappointing.
First time we have been here. My wife has been wanting to come here for awhile so we drove down from Broward and it was fantastic. Drinks, appetizers, main dishes, atmosphere and wait staff all were great.
A must do for a native and a great surprise for a visitor.
Cuisine of the sun!!! Fresh, delicious, and mouth watering cuisine... great atmosphere and while we visited, the owners greeted guests and make them feel very welcomed!!! Try the Short Rib Crepes!!!
Half price wine Tuesdays is a must. Super food prepared in unusual but delicious ways. If the fish tacos are on the bar menu, get them.
The food is so consistently good that we are now regulars. I was given a gift certificate for this place and so I'm glad we tried it because Ortanique never disappoints.
This place definitely lives up to the hype. Everything is perfect from the food to the service to the ambience. The restaurant is divided up, so it still feels cozy despite its large size. They also don't have the problem that most Miami restaurants have: poor acoustics. Despite a full house I could still hear my dinner companion. We had the Miami Spice menu. Everything was good, but we definitely had our preferences. For the appetizer, the fritters were slightly tastier than the pumpkin soup. The plaintain mash that came with the mahi was good, but the vegetable lasagna was out of this world. And lastly, the tres leches was a coconut lover's dream.
I'm surprised by all the 5 star ratings, this isn't a Michelin star restaurant. It's a nice place with good service and the food is decent, but not excellent. There are some good comfort food items: burgers, penne pasta, bean soup, short ribs. They offer daily specials to change up the menu a bit. The wine list is great. It's a quaint spot on Coral Way. I don't think you'll be disappointed but it won't blow you away.
Great food and service. I ordered a pasta with chicken that was one of the specialties of the house and it was excellent. The plate was over 25$. Big portions. All the people that went with me really enjoyed it.
Excellent food, excellent service. Amazing!
It had been a long time since I had come to this restaurant. I was SO happy that they are still KILLING IT! Keep up the great work chef! My Pork Tenderloin Curry meal was so delicious and tender. The espresso crusted salmon knocked it out of the ballpark! I can't wait to go back.
Cocktails were real good. Our server was super flustered not sure what was going on there but overall the service was good. Vegetarian menu changes everyday and today it was some coconut braised lentils which I did not enjoy, the black pepper was too much. But my friends got the salmon and scallops and they enjoyed it.
Have been enjoying their food for years. More importantly, they can accommodate my food sensitivities..
Creative High-Quality Caribbean fare. Surprisingly, it's all too rare in South Florida. Cindy Hutson knocks it out of the park with her talent for infusing fresh local ingredients with authentic Caribbean methods and styles. Over the years, consistency remains a remarkable forte in her long list of superlatives, but we never cease to be amazed at the next great thing to discover on the menu. The full service bar is known for great cocktails (an exceptional rum selection) along with an admirable wine list. For a respectable lunch or a very special dinner, you can't go wrong here.
Great place to meet for a bistro type meal. There is a champagne happy hour and the small plates are great for sharing. Everything is tasty!
Better choice of appetizers than entres. Always wanted to check this place out and very dissapointed. Hostess not acommodating, service not gratifying. Best part Joel the bartender and his bar.
Absolutely wonderful place to bring a date and have a 2 hour slow dinner. Happy Hour at the bar from 5-7pm with some amazing artisinal cocktails. This place has a loyal clientelle and many dining guests there are regulars. Restaurant opens at 6pm. Reservations not required but recommended...
Waited 10 minutes on hold just to place a to-go order. I get there and wait 10 minutes at the bar no one acknowledged me until I decided to get up and leave because my meter was expiring. It was the end of the lunch hour, they weren’t busy. Get home to find out the order is wrong. No utensils in the bag either. Will definitely go elsewhere next time
Excellent food. Hadn't been in years and luckily our planned spot could accommodate, so we headed down memory lane. The mussles fresh and the broth was delicious, as was the veggie pasta. The decor is whimsical and warm. Nice touch was that the menus have built in LED lights. They put together a slice of cake on a creatively decorated plate for my daughter's birthday. Excellent wines, excellent service. Won't wait so long again.
They have a menu on line once you get to the restaurant it’s totally different. I had not been to the restaurant in years because it’s always the same thing then they give you some B.S. and none the food they have is even close it’s like a bait and switch. We got up and left and was able to get into Morton’s great dinner at Morton’s
Great food. Loved ambience. Soft lighting. Excellent service.
First time to Ortanique, enjoyed the atmosphere, service and most importantly the food. Had a perfectly adequate glass of Tempranillo, but the food was delightful: pan seared corvina (yes, yes, I had red wine with white fish, but I'm of the "drink what you like" mindset and was in the mood for a Spanish red), served with perfectly cooked, julienned carrots and chayote, all atop a bed of sweetened, citrus-enhanced, plantain and Caribbean sweet potato mash. I opted to save room for dessert instead of eating appetizers (though my table ordered several, all of which looked delicious)- smart move as I had the coconut tres leches cake... so moist, with the perfect amount of shredded coconut, homemade chantilly, and just the right balance of sweet and creamy! I will be returning to Ortanique for sure!
An original. The fusion twist can't be found anywhere elae. The atmosphere is great. 5 star dining but in a fun and casual manner. Staff is awesome!
If I could give them more stars, I would. Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. Clean and well maintained. One of the best places I have been.
3/5 is generous and rounding up.
For what Ortanique is advertised as and supposed to be, it simply does not live up to the hype. I get the distinct impression that this place has a loyal fan-club-- people who have come here for years and who simply give the place a pass based on fond memories and tradition.
The food is decent but by no means exceptional. A handful of items on the menu may be excellent (e.g. crab cake). But many other menu items are just average. The grilled chicken on my appetizer salad was dry, bland and terrible. Weak wine by the glass menu.
The service is pretty absent minded for a supposedly high end restaurant. Little things. No understanding of the wine list. You say you like cabernet, the waiter recommends a pinot as something you'll like. They forget to bring you a fork. They mess up your order by adding something to it that you never asked for and don't want. Just basics.
This place was probably once exceptional, but has definitely fallen off. They're very nice people though. If they weren't so nice, I'd say 2/5.
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere.
Have always enjoyed this restaurant. Restaurant area was quite crowded but they managed to find room for us. Service was quite good considering. Food was great, seafood platter is a must. We also joined the frequent diner program.
A delectable dining experience! Outstanding menu selection of fresh, seasonal ingredients prepared to the highest quality. From the bread, to the appetizer, to the main course and martinis, everything exceeded my expectations. Consider this location one of the best culinary locations in all of Coral Gables. Overall the service was good. My second drink order was forgotten, but when they finally brought it out after being reminded, they made it extra 💪!!!! The one thing I was a little disappointed was that we were asked for a reservation when 80% of the tables were open and were denied an indoor table. Even after we were done dining and the show next-door was getting ready to start, the restaurant was still half empty . I thought this was a bit snobbish but I guess they wanted people outside to make the restaurant look busier than it was. Needless to say the food was outstanding or I would’ve complained to management about the slight.
Phenominal Food. I can say that this point is favorable.
Whenever we have special people visiting this Miracle Mile classic never disappoints. Delicious and creative food. Excellent service. Cozy bar and friendly people.
Im almost afraid to rate this place in fear of other people reading it and booking a reservation. It's my favorite little gem of a restaraunt on the mile in coral gables.
By far, the best restaraunt Gables has to offer. It's so special, we reserve it for special occasions regularly.
Staff is amazing, the chef is amazing, the atmosphere is perfect, wine selection amazing, etc.
Lovely place. I recently moved to this town and I decided to discover local restaurants. This was the first I visited. Unfortunately I cant give 5 stars because while I booked a table outside, once there, I got one inside and the lady told me outside wasnt available.
This make me doubt the reservation system / restaurant organization.
Prices are very good. Inexpensive. Food is good, mixed western, French and Caribbean. Very generous portions. If you are not that hungry do not order appetizer.
Very cozy and crowded place.
They just need to respect the reservations and they have 5 stars.
Great service and food. One of the best bartenders in town.
This is such a warm and distinctive place to bring visitors from out of town. The reason for its longevity is that it succeeds in capturing a certain Pan-Caribbean SoFlorida vibe. People love the gourmet twist with a tropical splash that delights and is never arrogant. The prices are modest but, if you can't afford to eat here all the time, just have a seat at the spacious bar. They have an extensive selection of treats, including desserts, that will make your evening.
I am visiting from California and wanted to try the famous breadfruit tacos but they were not on the menu today. However the ambiance was superb, the customer service excellent, the staff attentive and the food was "to die for" delicious and flavorful. I'll definitely be back.
Very nice cozy atmosphere. Cuisine is excellent. A bit pricey for what is served but very tasty. It is always full so get reservations.
My new favorite after church spot! Love it. Very flavorful, very authentic. Prices are super reasonable. Definitely recommend the Mac and cheese. Fried plantains come with your entree. That's always a bonus. Try it out!
Omg this place was good. The oxtails are A1 so good. I recommend this place for anyone traveling in the A or through the A'
