Tons of interesting information about black history in Oakland and California. Very kind staff! I will be returning!
I have been a constant supporter of this livrary loxation since i was a child. I majores in AA srudies because of this place. Wiah i could work here to be apart of all the history that comea throught this place. They have wonderful exhibuts and programs and plenty of resources especially documenting black communities in oakland.
Excellent customer service and assistance if you need help! The Library of Choice!!! I only wish the hours were extended!! Thank you AAMLO
Why it is always closed?
Had the best time there. Truly an experience worth repeating. So much culture, richness, preserved history, and community to be absorbed. Absolutely the best stop on my vacation tour thus far.
"THIS IS NOT A CHILD FRIENDLY LOCATION". After an anti-racism class, a couple decided to visit the museum with their daughter and we joined them along with two other young children and their parents. While we found the exhibits amazing, the customer service was extremely rude. An employee came upstairs and chastised the group because she could hear the excited children downstairs. Later, they sent security to tell us to go downstairs to "play".
It's close to where I live. I dont like the ideal that they dont open until twelve oclock. That's very inconvenient especially if you just need to make copies or just use the computer for a minute. That creates a line. They only have a few computers. Then you end up waiting again for that.
Very educational. Being from Africa I always wanted to learn more about African American history. It was like a year course in an hour.
Been in Oakland 46 yrs and had never been inside. It is an AMAZING place. Its a must see. Take your children. An emotional place with so much HISTORY!
The staff was very friendly and the knowledge that they shared was very intriguing!

Beautiful place. Love the Saturday programming - don’t miss it!
"This is an Outstanding Community Resource!" I recently visited the AAMLO on August 17, 2019 with my husband to hear Fredricka Newton (Huey Newton's wife) speak on the their life together. The presentation, atmosphere and discussions were all amazing and the evening left me feeling encouraged and uplifted. I was born and raised in Oakland, so I am incredibly grateful for this very precious community resource. I became a member that evening and I hope to volunteer in the near future. Thank you AAMLO!
The museum was on my list of places to visit the last time I was in town so I made sure I made it during my last trip. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon....read this and 13 more
