How would you rate A Place To Go?
I went there for the first time because it was part of New Rochelle's Restaurant Week. I had the coco pine martini, the fried calamari, caesar salad, curry shrimp with rice and peas and fried sweet plantain, and coconut rum cake for dessert. Everything was delicious! I wish I had buss up shut to eat the remaining curry on the plate! I met the owner. She was very pleasant. I did not feel rushed and we were there for two hours! I do not usually post reviews about restaurants, but this one was worth it. I highly recommend this place.
My first visit, definitely not my last! I truly enjoyed the curry shrimp with a side of rice & peas. It had just the right amount of spice heat to it. And wow, the rum punch was wonderful. The staff is so professional & kind.
The food was awesome!!!! I would go back alone for the food. I had to wait about 20 min which was ok for a Sat night. The bar was pack. You have to find parking so keep that in mind... I would say they just need to work on the mood. They play good music, but the setting itself is a little off. Maybe its the lightening. Should be a little dimmer. Overall service of the place was good and as I mentioned the food was GREAT!
I came here to celebrate my friend's Keith birthday and I was pleased with the food and the service. I will bring my fiance here to try this place out. The food was excellent. But the only thing I didn't like is that they charged 35 to cut a cake that we brought with for his birthday. We could have done something different.
My last experience was excellent!! We were seated right away and as always you unwind because of the warm, romantic, scenic environment including the music. Our Waiter, who was excellent, came right away and seeing that we already knew what to order, our food seemed as if it came instantly. Because the quantity and quality of the food is good, the high cost is fine. I work in a large organizations that focuses on customers experiences and from my work experience I can say that they were exceptional. There bad apples on every tree but the manager is engaged and quickly addresses any issue. This is a must visit!!
Today was my 3rd visit and I am sorry to say it was very disappointing. I took my son and my girlfriend for Brunch because of my previous positive experiences. However, today dispelled that notion. I ordered fish with banana (instead of with grits) – tasteless, no seasoning, no salt no flavor whatsoever. I voiced my disappointment to the waitress (who was very friendly) she recommended bringing me something that would enhance the flavor. That something was a spicy bowl consisting of onions, and carrots which I am sorry to say did not help at all. What annoyed me even more so was that the banana was not clean? It literally looked like it was taken out of the pot and put on the plate. I had to clean it myself. My son and my girlfriend both ordered chicken and waffles. While the waffles were adequately prepared, both complained that the chicken was tough. What I had and experienced today was not on the same level of consistency that I experienced previously. I raved to my guess about the food in your establishment, unfortunately you did not hold up to your consistency.
1st time visiting with my bestirs Andrea. Met up with a great couple Shana n Raymond. Excellently customer service and good atmosphere/vibes and food n tropical long Islander drunk me off. Live band is off the chains. Really like and appreciate this spot.
Awesome Jamaican food and drinks. Great Service. Amazing portions. I'll be back.
Great Caribbean Food. Nice atmosphere and terrible parking
Wonderful atmosphere and even better food. Chef Chrisse and his wife Chyrisse are the eptoime of hospitality.
came here on a Tuesday. Was very dead ! But that was fine cause I was only looking for a good drink and meal.& that's exactly what I got ! Our waitress was great , I had the beef empanadas & they were on point ! My best friend had the coconut shrimp , on point too !! We both had the oxtails with rice and peas with plantains !! This was this best Jamaican food I had at a restaurant hands down !!
Great food and great service. Recommend the grilled salmon.
Excellent and still getting better!
I have been going to "A Place To Go " for a few years now and I have to say it is overall the most classy and entertaining Caribbean Lounge/restaurant/bar in the Westchester county/ Bronx region.
The food is a great representation of Jamaican cuisine and the music offers a very Mellow Vybe, with different themes like paint night or just a Sunday brunch this Restaurant/ Bar just always end up being the best choice on any open night as The Place To Go!!!
Lovely setting! Amazing food!
Food and Service here are excellent. No need for me to travel to the city for good food and a great environment. Great authentic carribean cuisine.
We took our sister for her 40th Birthday and we had a great experience. I ordered the steamed fish and it was finger licking good. My sister got the oxtail and she kept commenting about how tasty it was. Our waitress was fantastic, she had us in stictches (laughing). I would definitely recommend this restaurant, it was awesome!!!
Excellent. The Host's, the waiter's, were personable, and attentive. The owners personally check on you. The overall experience is outstanding!
The food was delicious and the waitress was awesome! My sisters, niece and I really enjoyed our Sunday afternoon. We will be back!
Want good jamaican...this IS the place to go...depending on the day! The name just MAKES SENSE!
Love the food most days...but today was something different. Came for the shrimp and grits...wait time at least 30 minutes...for shrimp and grits... bf got the scrambled eggs and bacon. The wait was blamed on previous orders...but get this...there were only two other tables besides us. Both finally arrived at the same time. To my dismay...luke warm... accompanied by an undesirable stiffness as the grits cooled before arrival. Sent it back. Redelivered another bowl...this time...lumpy. Was told it was fresh and not reheated (reheated, overwoeked grits have lumps). However, we choose to dine at A Place 2 Go just one week before and the grits should have been called "Perfection". So the expectation had been set. Sent that bowl back. Next bowl came out, this time delivered by the chef/owner. Very awkward encounter. I was thinking, "Are u mad or nahhh????" Male ego at its peak. He told me to taste it...and walked away before I could. Long before...because there was no spoon (think "Coming To America" where's the spoon). Was brought a spoon via request...tasted it...WONDERFUL.
However, I spoke too soon. It had the soupiest consistency. I mustered thru it...okay 1/3 of the way thru it.
The manager ended up taking it off the bill as she and rhe bartender acknowledged the quality and inconsistency tp what is normal produced.
Beyond the quality, I was disappointed with the service. Below sub-par.
I attened a birthday party, along with over 20 other guests. We had family-style Jamaican and soul food, which were all was delicious. Live DJ was playing a variety of music... reggae, hip hop, etc. Great ambience, except it was difficult to separate another group also celebrating someone's birthday.
Good food poor service. Food is authentic island food. But the service needs to improve
The food was very good. I had the curry shrimp and spices were great. The service was a bit slow
I totally love this spot. I have no complains about the food, the drink, the music, the service, set up.....Nice vibes.
Cistomer Sergice is excellent, the place smells inviting and clean. The food is awesome.
It was cool calm and collective food very delicious and good portions of food as well
my first time there I didn't make reservation but my waiting time was less than 5 mins (pretty good). My server was awesome, the foid was great except for the fact they had too much gravy on the plate. I would prefer the gravy be placed in a separate container and use when necessary. Music was great but no where to dance it was very noisy because of a birthday celebration .
We had jerk chicken and burn strew snapper, both were delish. Nice and cozy place. Walked into paint night. Great atmosphere
This place is the boom. If you want good quality Jamaican food and nice strong drinks A Place to go is your best bet. I had the jerk chicken with bake mac n cheese it was too delicious. Right amount of spice and they jerk it in the back like wow. My boyfriend had the fried chicken with rice and peas it was also delicious. Everything we ordered could stand alone and taste delicious but out together flavour explosion in the best way. The service was also impeccable.
The atmosphere is nice. Elegant and Classy. However, I'm disappointed that there wasn't a live band. It's the main reason we took the trip. Also I'm not to fond of the new table arrangements. You're literally sitting on top of strangers. Food was well portioned and gooooddd! I love my culture and I will continue to support!!!
Awesome experience. Great good at reasonable prices
Pricey but food was good
I heard a lot of good things about this place and I was really looking forward to going there. I went with a few of my friends from high school that I haven't seen for a while. Most of us were coming from far to get there. All of us got there early enough except for one who was coming from Connecticut.
We all ordered and ate. The food was great. However, things took a turn for the worse. After the last person got there and ordered, a few minutes later a server came and asked us to move from the table to the bar because they had people waiting to be seated and that the persons who just ordered could eat at the bar as well. When we got the the bar, there were no seats and we were just standing there being bumped into by everyone needing to get by.
We were just standing there in the way and no one came back to check on us; after a while we decided to leave. So we were pretty much kicked out of the restaurant after spending over $500! We felt so embarrassed, because it was like we came to chill and were taking up space without spending any money.
I know someone was late and I understand that people were waiting to be seated, but the situation could have been handled a lot better. That is certainly no way to treat customers who just spent over $500 in your establishment; being kicked out after taking our money! It's highly unlikely that I will be going back to this place after this incident.
I gave one star for the food only. Parking can also be a challenge.
I've been here a few times and I thought my meals were pretty good. I enjoyed the curry shrimp and rice. I also got the snapper which was good but not hot. The drinks are ok. The place is beautiful...I'd say good for a cute dinner date night or birthday dinner. It can be tough to find parking though.
Only reservation I have is that parking is tough... you will need to park in the new roc center n make your way down. But other than that food, drinks and atmosphere is good.
Food was good. Recommend the crab cakes. Pretty pricey for the small portions. Mango Mojito was great. Jerk chicken on point. Music was good. Overall atmosphere was nice.
Great food, great atmosphere great company. All around had a great time. Chef Chrissy was a great host. Definitely going back.
Fifth time going to A Place to Go, while we had to wait very long for our meals due to a ticket disappearance, my simple meal of run down vegetables was a home run. It was delicious! It got me to write a review...lol. I will definitely be back for this meal, best thing I've had at this restaurant. Fruit punch, rice&peas was good too.
Sunday Brunch full of great food, music and energy. Vegan options are minimal, however what they lack in the vegan department they gain with music and alcohol. DJ's were great. Bartenders were friendly and efficient. The host/owner mingling with patrons. I will be back!!😊
Food and drinks are spectacular. One of the best Jamaican Dine-In restaurants in the Bronx. I used to visit regularly when living in the Bronx, but since moving to Queens I still try to schedule a night out here once in a while and the drive is well worth it
This place is very nice. The food is really good. The fried rice and jerk pork were excellent. The peppered shrimp had the right amount of heat. The cod fish was good. And the house salad with shrimp was delish. The music was great. The service was great. Just the right amount of attention. I will be definitely going back.
The food was delicious and my cocktail was amazing!! Service great!! Owners made themselves seen and greeted us!! Great customer service!
Had some time to kill, so visited this establishment the evening of May 16, 2018. The place was clean and attractive and the waitresses were attentive to their guests. Had the Dark and Stormy drink along with the cod fish appetizer. The cod fish was tasty and so did the drink though I wished there was a little more kick to it. Overall, my experience was good and definitely will return to try one of their Entree’s.
Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.
WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER!
THE woman that stated it was her establishment wanted to literally fight my daughter because she didn't like the jerk chicken. She put her hands in my Daughter's face stating she wanted details why she didn't like the dish. Mu daughter stated several times that the sauce and flavor did not move her at all. The woman got loud my daughter stood up, my self and the lady at the next table had to get between the two of the. The lady stated no is going to come into her establishment and be disrespectful. The lady at the table next to ours stated, she was not being disrespectful she simply did not like the dish and you took it to place that it should not have gone.
We had to wait forever for food that was not authentic Jamaican food.
I love this restaurant. West Indian cuisine at its finest. I have eaten almost every dish they have to offer and never left disappointed. The drinks are also great, the bar tender shows lots of love. I just happened to catch them on Thursday after 9pm when they have comedy night. This was a treat and I will be back. Music is always great and especially when they have a d.j. Do yourself a favor and dine for yourself.
I love this place! Their Caribbean cuisines are next level. Staff is polite and pleasant. My husband asked me where I wanted to go eat for my birthday and I chose here 😊
First let me say that this was my second time eating there and they never disappoint... the food was awesome and delicious. My entire family enjoyed there food, especially my son... since it was his birthday dinner. The staff was also great and the price wasn’t too bad....
It was my birthday and my friends took me there. The food looks exactly as in the pictures and I enjoyed my dish. All four of us did.I actually encouraged some of my coworkers to visit the place. Nice
This place is ABSOLUTELY the best place ever. Every time I go there I NEVER leave disappointed. There drinks are awesome especially the rum punch.
I'm a little upset. I found out they are closed for renovations and vacations. But, there are no signs on the door and no voice message . I thought they went out of business. A simple sign on the door and a voice message indicating the above needs to be done.
My wife and I love this place. This is without question the best Rasta Pasta I’ve ever had, the bartenders are extremely friendly, and the drinks are fire. My wife loves the ackee and salt fish. A standard date night spot.
This is a cute place. It is not overpriced, accepts debit cards and the food is good. Great for lunch and breakfast and I never had a problem when coming...read this and 3 more
