How would you rate Neyow’s Creole Café?
I enjoy good cooking! When it comes to Creole cooking you have to do your research. There are many restaurants claiming to be the best Cajun food in Louisiana only to fall short! My great-grandmother passed down her famous gumbo recipe to our family, so I at least have a history? I judge a seafood restaurant by the quality of their gumbo, if they have a good gumbo, more than likely their etouffe will be good as well! Neyow's Creole Cafe delivers! They did not come looking for me, I found them! The moment we walked into the door it was obvious! Nothing but locals enjoying the owner's grandmother's delicious recipes! Very well executed I might add!
If you're looking for polished marble and starched napkins you might as well go someplace else! If you're looking for delicious food, executed in a way to make grandma happy, this is it! I thought long and hard about writing this review, knowing Neyow's is a precious find! However, Tim strikes me as a guy who will maintain quality. He is already very successful!
The only table in the restaurant was right in front of the bar, so we took it. Our server was working extremely hard and she had a smile on her face! As a matter of fact, everybody was smiling! When we ordered our food, I ask our server what she recommended. She said their poboys and fried chicken are excellent. So I ordered a poboy! My daughter ordered the barbecued oysters and my wife ordered the fried chicken! For an appetizer we ordered a dozen barbecued oysters for the table! Everything was excellent! As we were eating the owner ask us if we like gumbo? I informed him gumbo is a great gauge on the quality of a restaurant. In five minutes we each had a cup of delicious gumbo you can't find in the French Quarter! I know, I've tried! I could run through the top five gumbos in the French Quarter and they don't compare to Tim's grandmother's recipe! I personally have never had a poboy so stuffed with shrimp. I tried the fried chicken and it was wonderful! When we ordered I ask our waitress how the chicken compared to Willie Mae's and she said they are both excellent! She was right! Although we did not order a dessert, Tim brought a slice of the most delicious bread pudding we have ever enjoyed! Our experience at Neyow's can not be repeated. The stars aligned and we just rolled with it! I know Tim and crew are already New Orleans' culinary rock stars, I just hope to see them again, sooner rather than later!
The best food we've had in NO with superior service!! We were not sure about getting the charbroiled oysters but tried them per the chef 😉! They were the best oysters I've ever had!! We decided to go with the Extravaganza Meal and it was the best choice! Everything on the menu was delicious. My kids had the ribs and left only the bones on the plate!! For dessert we had bread pudding and cheesecake. The bread pudding was like my grandmothers' bread pudding..... Melt in your mouth delicious! If you want to get away from the visitors' spots and get great service and delicious food this is the spot!!
Based on the menu and reviews, this looked like a good place for dinner. I ordered the pork chop plate, one fried, one grilled. My dinner came with both fried, and unfortunately they were inedible due to overall toughness of the meat. The mac and hush puppies that came with it were great. Service was typical, not good or bad- just kind of like the staff wished they were somewhere else. Overall, surprisingly poor for New Orleans.
Only had the fried shrimp po boy. It was fine, but not amazing. The fries were soggy and inedible.
EVERYTHING I TASTED WAS EXCELLENT... FROM THE CHARGRILLED OYSTERS TO THE GUMBO TO RED BEANS AND RICE AND MY MEAL WAS FISH AND SHRIMP PLATTER. WONDERFUL IS HOW I DESCRIBE THIS SPOT
The staff were nice, the crawfish balls were awesome BUT the shrimp in my entree were not cleaned and de-veined. When I inquired about it, the server said they don't do that. If you're gonna charge $15.95 for a plate of pasta with cheese sauce at least prep the seafood properly. Very disappointed. Could've been so much better.
I always say when you are searching for real home style soul food you need to get away from the tourist areas and wander deep inside the heart of New Orleans. Well this is the place real southern style cooking without all that fancy comicialize crap. The place to really have some down to earth red beans and rice. I had my plate with 2 big juicy pork chops the service could had been much better but the food made up for the little lack of service I received in the beginning. Remember you only have one chance at first impressions. This is a tiny place so be prepared to wait a little, the locals love this place so it feels good sitting next to locals instead of sitting next to tourists. I highly recommend this place to everyone looking for a real southern style New Orleans down to earth cooking good food for your soul. just got back into town once again this place is a must I highly recommend this place great food well worth the 2 hour wait I waited to eat here. take my word for it order the Bow wow drink and it will get you through the long wait. once again I had the red bean and rice and pork chops, boy just like grandma's use to make. this place is the bomb come on in and enjoy the down to earth home comfort food.
Great food. I love the characters grilled oysters. Staff is always friendly. I love the "Bowl wow" punch...if you drink the whole cup, you get a second half off...I wouldn't recommend driving after doing so. All, in all Neyows is a great restaurant, with lovely staff...only thing I wish, is that they expand to a bigger location. It's definitely too small for the current business they get now! Still 5 stars for great for, good service and being a comfortable place for locals to get affordable home cooked food.
This place has the worst service of any restaurant I've ever been to. We were seated and other tables seated after us got service first. Only 4 out of 5 people at our table actually received the food we ordered. We spent about 2 hours in the restaurant and saw our server a grand total of 2 times. For the people who did actually receive their entrees, the mashed potatoes felt like they came right out of the refrigerator and the steak that was ordered medium rare came out straight up raw. The management made no attempts to fix the problems and only offered to give us a free dessert, which probably would have taken another hour to show up, if at all like our other food.
I enjoyed the whole scene at the cafe. The atmosphere was great. The food great, the waiter and waiteress were great. Everyone there made you feel at home. Thanks for a great time.
Food was great. The fried shrimp may be the best I've had. Service was pretty good. I will definitely be back.
The food is excellent! Very reasonable in price and more than, enough food to calm the savage beast!!! I will be back!!
Neyow's never disappoints and is always worth the wait. Get there early if you want the daily special, also we can't wait for the new building next door to open. Highly recommend this locally owed New Orleans original.
Recent visit for lunch was not good. They were out of
Gumbo and dark meat chicken at 2:00 Food was rushed and not cooked near as good as usual. Fried chicken was near burnt and dried out and the stewed chicken was not homemade gravy. Look Like dark canned gravy. The cornbread dressing was mushy. I hope
it was just an off day for the cook or the regular cook was out. The food is usually good.
Neyow's was recommended to us by a bellboy who works at the Hyatt. He knew there were 20 of us in the group. This hotel cannot accommodate large groups. We were not able to sit together. Only two to four can sit at a table. We asked for a restaurant that served fresh seafood not frozen. The food was definitely frozen. The waitress asked us for our order before she gave us a menu. Some of us were never served our food. I definitely do not recommend this restaurant!
I'm from out of town so it's a compliment when the locals recommend your restaurant. With that in mind, I happened to catch the new location on day one. We say outside because it was a beautiful day. But the violinist playing inside was very enticing and talented! Bonus
On to the food... Wonderful. I had the shrimp and oysters. Fried to perfection and not greasy! I recommend the carrot souffle, it was great. The outdoor section has plenty of tvs for those that are looking for entertainment. This is s great choice!
Had the grilled chicken salad.
Just three little slices of chicken and two pieces of tomatoes over what seemed like a bale of lettuce just wasn't worth the cost. Chicken slices were tasty though.
The service was completely lacking as our waitress took hours (literally) to get our food order. After already spending more than $100 in food, I ordered a take out entree with a dessert and when I got home (1 hour drive away) my dessert was not there even though they charged me for it. When I called in less than 24 hours later, I was told that l would not be refunded my money, nor could they give me a credit. If you want great service don't go here. There are hundreds of places to get great food in the city that also treat their customers to southern hospitality, don't waste your time or money here.
It's a great place, but...
Today our family decided to go to Neyow's because we're familiar with their great food from the previous restaurant, once occupied next door. However, when we arrived to the new establishment, we experienced some complications: (1) there wasn't a waiting area and there were two lines of people waiting on opposite ends of the steps; the wait is too long on account of the small floor area and the steps are a dangerous place to wait, especially if you have small children, and it's a hassle to move out of people's way who are coming in and out, (2) the maitre d' was not only hosting but also doing a waitress job at the same time. This led to a lot of people leaving because they were either not certain how long the wait was or was able to be greeted when they came in, (3) the service was HORRENDOUS. The waiter not only forgot our drink orders that was told to her 5 minutes beforehand but she also didn't give us napkins, utensils, straws, and plates when our appetizers arrived. She also did not clean up when we finished our appetizers and she was told twice by two people to refill one drink. Then it took her awhile to get our check and to go options. Plus, her attitude was as if she'd rather be somewhere else. When we complained to the owner about our waitress, he seemed a bit nonchalant and tied up in his own whereabouts.
But here are the good parts: (1) the owner did try to compensate for his disorganization (even though it didn't appease us), (2) the food was served fast and it was fresh and delicious, (3), the inside atmosphere was very modern, (4) black owned, (5) other waitresses tried to compensate our service when they saw our frustration.
This post is not to degrade the restaurant but to hopefully incite awareness for the new business so that it can improve on some things. You never know who's sitting in your restaurant; people have celebrity connections that can either help or hurt the restaurant business.
YOU ONLY HAVE ONE TIME TO MAKE A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION. If your service SUCKS, people won't come for the food. It's New Orleans, honey. They have good food everywhere. People CHOOSE to come to your restaurant. Please make sure your service is better than what it is because the people you hired can make or break you. Also, word of mouth gets around fast and you don't know WHO KNOWS someone famous that can really harm or help.
The food was brought to us late and cold. The oysters were ok but not even close to the best ive had in New Orleans. The place was so loud i couldn't hear my own thoughts not to mention i could barely communicate with my partner. The food decor was terrible the mac and cheese looked like a highschool cafeteria and tasted like it as well. Service was slow and it was also freezing in there and i had a full winter sweater on. Very disappointed wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Waste of money that you could definitely spend in way better places
Our youngest son treated us to Neyow's for our 32nd wedding anniversary. The grilled oyster's and fried oysters are the best in the city. The seafood platter was excellent.
Great place for lunch or dinner! Moderately priced, nice atmosphere, good staff.
The host was rude as hell. The pasta was average, and the waiter was terrible. The waiter was more concerned with talking to everyone else rather then waiting on his table, didn't even offer bread and when I asked he asked as if I was bothering him. Maybe my experience would have been better if I had a different waiter! But until next time.
I have eaten at the old location (right next door) a couple of times and raved about the food and service so i decided to bring my out of town family to enjoy a meal. We were seated and asked for our drinks. a couple of minutes later asked for our order. after waiting for an HOUR 1. no drinks were ever brought 2. no food was brought. My mother got up to ask on the status of the food AND THE ORDER WAS NEVER PUT IN! Sorry Neyow's but i'll bring my business elsewhere.
My family had a wonderful experience at Neyow's! There was no wait to be seated and we got our food in a timely manner. It was literally the best soul food I've ever had. I had the Southern Fried Chicken and it was amazing! Our waitress was very nice and attentive as well. We will definitely be back!
Has great outdoor seating in their new spot. Food is good. Go there for oysters and a tall drink. Service has been a little spotty the last few times I went but it don't keep me away!
It was amazing !!!The wait was worth waiting... Brittany was our server n deserved every bit of the $50 tip she got !!!
(She works at the bar)... Even the waitresses are kind n fun " pink" ... The grilled oysters r to die for the steak was cooked right n the bread pudding was amazing as well ... Ty Neyows for doing it right !!! They need to work on they're shrimp BBQ it's not exactly what I expected n shrimp was over done !!! All in all great place!!!
In my recent first-time visit to New Orleans, this would be my #1 choice on the quality of the food. Also, the Valet parking is a huge plus. Nice quiet vibe, I would describe the atmosphere as New Orleans flavor with NY/Altlana feel in terms of outside seating area. Lovely experience and amazing food!
The food was yummy and plentiful! Our table had two of the pasta seafood dishes, Jambalaya with fried chicken and Shrimp creole. Everyone was happy with tbeir choices.
The food was delicious! The service was wonderful. The experience felt like home cooked meal with family.
The staff at Avenue Plaza recommended Neyow's and they were on target. The vibe was wonderful, very lively. Staff was pleasant, restaurant was clean. Catfish was delicious, carrot soufflé awesome, green beans need some onions and smoke turkey necks; order a small red beans and rice but never received the order. Requested the desert menu but never received it. However. I truly believe it was because it was extremely busy and due to the power outage it was all overwhelming.
I've visited this establishment prior to it being renovated and I have to say that I had a horrible experience here this time. I needed to seat a party of 10, and called one week prior to get reservations. I received a phone call later during the week after the reservation was made, stating that they do not take reservations on the weekend. My best friend arrived one hour prior to the scheduled meeting time, and we did not get seated until 2.5 hours later and had 8 chairs available instead of 10, and said there was a $15 charge to cut a cake that was brought in from outside. This was not mentioned over the phone when I asked about bringing a cake. The manager did attempt to resolve the issue by offering the party free nonalcoholic beverages but I feel this was not good enough. For the wait of 2.5 hours, waiting 45 minutes more to get orders, and the crowed establishment was not worth it. I will not return.
The taste is authentic! Savory and succulent flavors! Gumbo was the best that I have ever tasted from a restaurant. Awesome service and delicious food equals an awesome experience! A must try!
Came for the first time on a Wednesday and had a great experience! Service food, everything. Returned the following Sunday while the food was good, service was not. Drinks took over 40 minites and ultimately we got up to get it ourselves. The food took long and the server was too busy to attend to us. While i do recommend the food I can say food was 50/50.
It's one of New Orleans' foodie hot spots! I went during the Essence Festival so I saw Holly Robinson Peete and Tank, but the wall of fame upon entering the building shows that celebrities far and wide all agree on the quality of the food. Amazing food! STRONG drinks. The only downfall is the indoor seating space it's a little cramped at times, but the food will make you disregard that QUICKLY.
Neyow's is one of the best things about Mid City New Orleans. They have helpful staff, comfortable seating, a good view and the food is simply awesome!
I had the grilled oysters and fried catfish and fried oysters on my first visit with my sisters who are very picky people. It was an enjoyable afternoon for us.
I went to lunch their with my best friends and they had the stuffed crabs with side orders of delicious potato salad. I had the hot sausage po'boy. It was delicious!
The price of the food is reasonable. The food is good and it is a really good place to eat with family and friends. Worth every penny you spend.
GREAT FOOD however the wait is was almost 2 hours long so snack before you go! Staff was friendly and fast. The music was very good. Worth the wait!
Excellent service and great food! Our server was very attentive to our needs and details. We went around 11:30am on a Saturday and it was perfect. Would definitely return.
The place was phenomenal. Better than anticipated. We did not have to wait long. As a matter of fact our dinner came before the appetizer. Everything was delicious and we left crumbs on the table.
My wife and I visited New Orleans for a couple of days. While we where out and about a person that lived in New Orleans suggested that we try this place after being asked of a good place to eat . I'm glad she did. It was only a 15 minute commute which included a five minute walk to get there. It was worth the commute. Food was delectable. Price was moderate. Service and atmosphere was Exceptional. I highly recommend this place to visors and residents. We will return and recommend to everyone that we come across that may visit New Orleans. I had the shrimp creole and a bowl of gumbo my wife had BBQ shrimp.
It was my first time there and I loved it. It's very intimate and family oriented. Great food and great people. The heart of Creole cuisine!!!
Great atmosphere. Fantastic food. Good prices. All of our food was delicious and came fast! About 2-3 minutes after our order, meaning the food is prepared but it's still good. My wife ordered catfish and less than 5 minutes later it came out. Not a complaint, just letting y'all know. Service is poor. Wifee asked for coffee: response was "we have a lot from this morning". Wrong answer. Then wifee asked if she could make a pot. Nope. Waitress answer was that is was late in the day and she didn't want to make another pot. She was kinda slow as she was only had 2 tables. The rest of our time there was awkward, uneasy, weird, and not good. This is actually a good place, I can tell, just service is not the greatest. 1st visit.
This is my third time at this restaurant and I think the food is great, with one exception. It's way too salty. Anyone who coins knows that most of the seasonings have salt added so no need to use too much or add salt. This is why our people have high blood pressure and cholesterol. My only recommendation is for the chef to go easy on the salt.
You also advertised a 2 for 1 happy hour drink special from Monday- Wednesday. When I had company in town this was the tie breaker between you and another restaurant. When we showed up the waiter had no idea what we were talking about and then he checked with someone else who said it was on the works but not yet a promotion. I would like to know what preparation goes into giving a 2 for 1 and why is it on your website?
I'm not opposed to going to this restaurant again but I'll be prepared for the salty batter that they use. Please fix this.
I was visiting from California and my son suggested this place for lunch and I'm so glad he did. The food was delicious. We had oysters for appetizer and my son ordered the stuffed shrimp and I had red beans and rice with fried chicken. Highly recommend..My mouth is watering as I write this review 😋❤️
The crawfish balls were amazing, but the pasta I ordered had no taste. The bartender offered me some seasoning and hot sauce. The rest of my party really enjoyed the fried seafood. I'd return, but I wouldn't sit at the bar or order the pasta.
Stopped by this place last weekend. We were seated fairly quickly (~15 min) which was surprising as they appeared to be very busy. After placing our order we waited at least 30 min to get our food. When the food arrived one of the orders was completely wrong and cold on top of that. Ordered something to go and the waitress completely forgot about it. After hearing about this place I was excited to try it with my family but was disappointed overall.
We had high hopes for Neyows. We were diverted here, across town from our hotel on Canal St, by a local who promised good authentic Cajun food for a decent price. We even called ahead and spoke to a very nice manager who assured us our vegetarian in the group could be accommodated. When we got there, though, it became pretty clear the service provided by servers was held to no standard. I wish I could point out the girls name who gave us this experience but honestly she never even offered her name. We sat down and I'm not even kidding the first words out of her mouth are "hey guys just so you know we don't split checks here, no American Express, and we're out of lemon, pork chop, and (something else I can't remember)." We all kind of looked at each other like okay hello to you too and she proceeded to lean up against the bar looking around and paying zero attention while we made our drink order. My boyfriend asked if they had any beer on tap and she said "it's on the menu" while she pointed at it. Needless to say we got up and walked out. Pretty sad considering all of the service we got elsewhere in New Orleans was true southern hospitality. Maybe it's because we weren't locals? Don't know, but won't be back next year.
I never really liked oysters until I tasted the ones from here. They are amazing. I've tried oysters at many of the places that are well known in the city, but these are by far the best. Because I wasn't a huge fan of oysters, I did as I normally do, just tried one of someone else's. It was so good that I packed my original order and ordered a half-dozen (I still wasn't completely convinced). But then I killed that 1/2 and had to order another half. From now on, I order a dozen of oysters and a cup of gumbo, which is also amazing. The gumbo taste like I made it myself.
This place is the truth and life!!! We fried chicken with red beans a side of fried shrimp and steamed veggies plus a cup of gumbo! Tje chicken came out steaming as did the fried shrimp!! Veggies were good and the red beans delicious! Angel (Angelica) was our bartender she pours the right amount alcohol and ensured we were fine over the course of our stay! Last but not least those oysters!!! We ordered 6 and I was mad we didn’t order 66!!! Love this place and can’t wait until it comes to Houston!!
Delicious food, friendly waitress, medium wait time. I would definitely recommend this place to friends. We will return and try the oysters. They look very appetizing. I have a dislike for funny textures, but they make them look awesome to try out.
Wow wow wow.. Must try.... The flavorsome food is memorable I have rarely been to places that can surprise you with such awesome seasoning and preparation unfortunately the wait in the size of the establishment take away from everything that it can give you the time it took for us to get our mule can be excused due to the multitude of flavors and tastes that they present to you. I have really been the places that can surprise you with such awesome seasoning and preparation unfortunately the wait and the size of the establishment take away from everything that it can give you the time it took for us to get our meal can be excused do to the multitude of flavors and tastes that they present to you but I did find it wanting that the service was not up to par with the five star food the fact that our waitress at the time walked by our table numerous times without asking if we needed refills regardless of the fact that both of our cups had been placed directly beside the walkway empty and we had to await her service to the point where we got up and had to go get her and ask her for refills. The only other drawback that I can honestly point out is that they do have outside seating but they only open that during the weekends in the evening times for whatever purpose I have yet to figure out but I definitely recommend going here at least to partake of real Creole prepared food. The last and final drawback is that they do not accept reservations regardless of the size of your party it is on a first-come first-serve basis in such a small establishment I cannot deny that they make a good amount of money based off of the crowd that is consistently there on a daily basis but it's the small little nuances that take away from the overall experience so a five star restaurant whines up getting itself three stars perhaps this is their way of giving tourists A Taste of New Orleans and leave them wanting for more but at the end of the day it also turns away some people who just don't have the time for that kind of weight in the city that's filled with exquisite dining options one is wonderful is this as far as the food goes should really look at other options when it comes to customer service.
Nice environment. The food is good, has a spin on the sides but doesn't lack much in flavor. The staff moves pretty swiftly so the wait time wasn't long at all (went on a Saturday about 930).
TLDR: Great Food, fair prices, Get The Fried Chicken. We were a group off ten and were seated after a wait time that was well worth it. All of the food, drinks & appetizers were skillfully prepared with generous portions. Of the several places we ate, I'd say this was the most highly rated from our group. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, the fried chicken was beautifully seasoned (it was a favorite of the group), the fried catfish was amazingly flaky & moist. This is definitely going to be added to the must visit list when in Nola. The service was on point, with a large group it can be tricky getting all of the food out together, but it wasn't an issue here. The timing was perfect. The portions are generous, and the pricing is very fair for the quality & quantity of food you are getting. So Go. Order The Fried Chicken And Prepare To Be stuffed!
This restaurant is worth waiting in line. The food was absolutely phenomenal. The spices used are perfect. The staff is friendly and very informative. The environment creates a nice vibe for you and your loved ones. The music selection is great and don't even get me started on the drink, especially that punch!
The food was excellent. Make sure you try the "bow wow drink". Its a midsize cup, with 3/4 filled rum and the rest is a fruit punch mix. I guarantee it would knock your socks off.Good food and a great r&b and hip-hop selection. The staff is nice and friendly. Overall, very dope place!
Visiting NOLA with my husband and this restaurant was recommended for seafood. All I can say is WOW! Everything was delicious. Had the chargrilled oysters for an appetizer. They were phenomenal. Tasted like I was eating a piece of steak. The Bow Wow fruit punch drink is a great drink with 2 different rums. Will definitely have you feeling good. The fried catfish was a large portion and equally delicious. It is a busy place, but well worth the wait. Can't wait to return!
I am a local and I frequent here.. probably weekly. This place is a relaxed establishment that is consistent, with great food and the service is always good. They play great music and they are reasonably priced. This is a must stop for tourist and locals. Keep up the great work
Tasty and inexpensive. Fried chicken was tasty it really salty, and they charge $1 extra for white meat despite others at the table getting some of the same pieces when they ordered dark meat. We loved our server but service was very slow! Appetizers came after the mains and it took a good 20min to pay the bill.
We are completely surprised by the benches full of people waiting in front of the restaurant, and the wonderful old school R&B music is awesome. The char grilled oysters are AMAZING (perfectly seasoned yet not greasy, unlike ACME), the fry chicken has a great crust but its too salty, the fried catfish is simply devine, the corn bread fixing and the carrot souffle are both delicious, and the pecan pound cake good. Good service (attentive but relaxed), make sure you are not in a hurry or are too hungry.
Tip: come early or it is self seating outside or at the bars, plenty of street parking available, take your time & enjoy the lively atmosphere.
Great atmosphere the oysters we're really good!!! We had a good time and we will be back for the oyster for sure!!!!! Great place Mac and cheese needs some work it was almost like Kraft Mac and cheese but real soupy not a fan. But everything else was great as well as the staff very nice!!!
Mouthwatering. We hit the jackpot with timing and had no wait (thanks jazz fest). Out of trip here, this is the best ordering we did. Don't mess with perfection and order the fried chicken. There's a reason they're known for it, it's freaking amazing. I don't know how they get that to taste the way they do, but it's magic.
We paired it with a shrimp Creole and left happy and full.
We came here after friends recommended it and I'm so glad we decided to try it out. We had great service and the food was delicious! We had a party of seven and they were able to accommodate us after only a 5-10 wait. I had the fried catfish and it was very good. Everyone enjoyed their food. We will be back when we visit New Orleans again.
This place was so fun and friendly... A statue gorilla wearing a thong, definitely a master piece. 😂 The food was appealing, flavorful and authentic. The service was amazing. My host Mason was so impressionable and warm, he really gave us the celebrity treatment.
We stopped by on our way home, to Houston. I wish we are able to drive here often just to eat. I was absolutely blown away by the taste and quality of the food. Yummy! The only downside is the wait (20-40 minutes) But you'll see why. It's worth the wait.
I went there during a time it wasn't too busy in New Orleans. I still had a wait but it wasn't as bad as it could've been. It was a beautiful night. They have a lot of nice benches set up outside to wait on and the music is great! They play all of the great throwback r&b jams! The food was pretty good. I had the grilled pork chops. They were a bit generous on the Lawry's but it was good. The drinks were strong. One or two and you'd be right! Plus, our server was super fun and sweet. My friend's and I had a great time there. We'd highly recommend it.
Oh man. Is this place on point!!! I would take another trip to New Orleans just to eat there. The wings, oysters and carrot souffle were the bomb. I heard a lot about their drink special, but the food was so on point, I forgot about the drink! The service was also amazing! Our waiter was very attentive gave us the perfect balance of attentiveness. You have to go there.
I am so happy we found this place. We shared the seafood platter that had fried catfish, fried shrimp, fried oysters, and stuffed crab... IT WAS DELICIOUS. You also get two sides with it, so we had the red beans & rice and hush puppies. They were also yummy. They have drink called "Bow wow" & wow, it was awesome. You must try it if you drink. Service was great and our food came out quick. The only downside was finding parking. Terry was our waiter, I recommend him because he was great. Also, another guy named Dez made our experience even great by helping us get a table at such a busy time and made sure we were taken care of.
The staff was pleasant, but not very attentive. They gave me the wrong order. I ordered white meat chicken but got dark meat. I didn't know until halfway through I just went ahead and ate it. The chicken was over cooked and too salty, (and I like highly seasoned food). Also, it was a little too pricey for me. The bread pudding had too much nutmeg. This coming from someone who is not the pickiest person in the world.
Oysters were fabulous. The gumbo was so good, I cried. And that bow wow punch is best split three ways: 80% alcohol to 20% fruit punch. We had the extravaganza which is actually probably enough to feed three if you get appetizers. Brownie a la mode comes warm under a great scoop of ice cream. One of the best places I've ever been in NOLA!
Gumbo on point! The best I have ever had in a restaurant!
Aside from an over cooked steak my family and I had the BEST time.
We enjoyed a variety of menu options and were more or less satisfied with the quality of food and service.
Not a big fan of the canned green beans. They could have at least been seasoned.
I’m usually skeptical about bread pudding at restaurants but their bread pudding was pretty doggone good! I would recommend it.
Would have been nice if our server established prior to the end that bills can’t be split and the rules regarding payment methods. We were a little frustrated to learn at the end of the meal that no splitting of the bill (do your own math) and no more than 3 credit cards would be processed with any amount of cash. It was 5 families at our table and no one had much cash making it a fiasco for us to close out. Most of us were home visiting and on our way back out of town in separate directions. Luckily our family made it work and covered bills for each other.
This restaurant was fabulous!!! We had a party of 16 and we waited a hour but it was well worth it. Everyone loved all the food we ordered and they have a good menu for kids. The Italian honey mustard dressing on my salad was to die for. Good red beans, the best hush puppies, and fried shrimp and fish. And make sure you have the bow wow drink.....
I visited this establishment during the essence fest weekend because I love supporting black owned businesses and I heard the food was great. Upon arrival there was a three hour wait inside and out. We decided to wait outside in the waiting area which was fluttered with trash and sitting water therefore it was a lot of flies. After we were waiting for two hours the security guard walked up to my mother and rudely and unnecessarily told her “she better move or she won’t eat” when we were standing by the door. My mother replied by telling him that he was mean for that and that was unnecessary and he told her “To go have a seat” in the shut up and sit down spirit. The only table available now was outside by the bathroom. The woman’s bathroom toilet was flooded so there was even more flies by the table than there was in the waiting area. The waiter was really nice we told her she we were pressed for time at this point and our food came pretty fast. All 4 of the chairs were unstable, very low, and we all felt like we were going to fall out. While we were eating we had to fight with the flies so they won’t attack our food. They were like double teaming the food so we lost the battle a bit. We all ate really fast and I ended up getting sick because of it. This wasn’t a good experience at all.
It was wonderful!!! I was initially concerned because I'd been told there would be a long wait by friends who'd dine there before but we didnt have to wait long at all. The Neyow's Punch was great!! All of our meals where delicious (see pics). My son is still talking about how good the cornbread was. The staff was very friendly. I will definitely be back.
Great lunch today
I had Smothered Okra with fried chicken and carrot souffle.
Hubby has red beans/rice with 2 pieces of fried fish with cornbread ! Awesomeness just like I could and my grandma... awesome home away from home..Our waitress was the best..very informative and just awesome lady...will be back on cheat day!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service, and it was quick food on a Friday night with no wait! Pasta Bayou and fried catfish were perfection! Hush puppies were great and the mac and cheese was amazing. A local recommended this place and it did not disappoint. Some of the best food we had in NOLA. Saw many people enjoying the oysters and happy hour drinks.
Despite their group bill and no check splitting, food and atmosphere was super bomb! (Amazing!) We caught them at a busy, rainy time but ended up creating our own space outside as the weather cleared up. Food selections were great, different items I have never tried, I LOVED. Music playlist was on point, nice soulful old school 80s and 90s R&B. Great vibes! Thanks to the staff as well for being extra helpful 🔌.
We met for lunch at 1100, were seated promptly by a most delightful hostess. Our service was outstanding, even though the restaurant filled up within fifteen minutes. The food was fresh, more than adequate portions, well seasoned and reasonably priced. The only reason for my rating of four stars, rather than five star rating was my chicken breast was just a wee bit on the dry side.
There is a parking lot just across the street, with off-street parking as overflow.
Our party consisted of my parents, my daughter and her boyfriend and myself. The four of them have been to this dinery in The past; I live out of town, and this was my first, although not my last.
I shall definitely return with my husband.
A packed house on a Monday was a welcoming sight. Hostess was friendly and greeted us with a big smile. Server was decent. Offered no refills on our drinks. I ordered a po boy. My first ever. Bread was stale, but the shrimp were seasoned well. The cornbread dressing was AMAZING!!! Better than my sandwich. I would probably go again, but probably just order appetizers.
This restaurant is awesome! My family and I really enjoyed it! The food is is so good we went back the next day to eat again! The waitress Lisa is awesome great personality!! We can’t wait to come back to New Orleans!
Rita Howard Coleman
Our server Victoria was very nice and pleasant. She had great customer service and was very kind. The food was delivered to our tables quickly. It was hot and fresh! Everyone in our party loved their meals. I recommend everyone orders the red beans & rice, fried fish, stuff shrimp/crab and whatever drinks they have because everything was delicious!!!
Great vibe. Seems to be a cool place to have out. I noticed a diverse group of people there. The food was really good (especially the wings) and priced well. Portion size was big - lots of food.
Parking is across the street.
I ate here while in New Orleans for a conference. This was the best meal I had on that trip.
I had the grilled oysters and the seafood combination platter. Everything was delicious but the grilled oysters were the best I've ever had. The combination of grill flavor with the spices on top was fantastic. I had oysters once again before I left the area, at a different place and by comparison, Neyow's were dramatically better and richer in flavor.
Everything on the seafood combination platter was as good and very fresh. As sides I ordered the sweet potatoes tots and the potatoes with parsley. The sweet potatoes were very good, but everything else on the plate was complemented a lot better by the mashed potatoes with parsley.
As mentioned by other reviewers, the service was exemplary, as well. This place is definitely a favorite for the next time we visit.
Walked in the door with 9 friends and was told that there could only be 1 ticket and 1form of payment. It was explained that if we wanted to pay separately we would have to sit at separate tables, if someone was to pay only for themselves that they would have to sit alone. So we went next door and had a fabulous meal TOGETHER. Doesn't matter if the food is good or not. ... I am the CUSTOMER. Will never give it a second chance.
Overall, everything was good! Although, I do wish that my string beans were fresh and not from the canned. I would most definitely get the chicken breast again. It was very juicy. In addition, I would get the carrot souffle, which my friend ordered.
Visited the new cafe 2 days after their grand opening. The food was delicious, but the sound level was deafening! If you are sensitive to loud noises, don't go during dinner.i highly recommended The gumbo. It was superb! Wonderful & flavorful roux. Don't waste your money on the garlic bread. It's not the French baguette bread we were hoping for... The fried oysters were delicious! I would order it again. The barbecued shrimp was a disappointment. It wasn't the garlicky butter sauce that we were accustomed to from NOLA. It tasted like shrimp dipped in barbecue sauce. The seasoned potatoes were yummy! Sauteed in butter & grilled onions!
My husband had the Sat. Special of stuffed green peppers. He enjoyed it! He said the corn bread stuffing was delicious too!
Next time we will come back & try the grilled oysters that they are known for...
Overall a very good experience. The staff were very nice and helpful. The atmosphere and food was pleasurable. I was there for a work dinner party and we had a party of 15. They made me wait outside for 10 minutes until half our party arrived, when we could have easily sat and started spending money on drinks. That is my only complaint.
It has excellent service..... expect a wait but ours was only 30 min.... food was delicious.... had the red beans and rice with fried chicken.... and a house salad..... and a bow wow as drink.... or is tasty and potent.... 10 shots of light and dark rum with fresh fruit juices... fir only $11.....
Good food. Nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Great customer service. I would definitely recommend. My only suggestions would be for more parking, add the side orders to the menu online, and update the prices online.
The food and service is great. Our waiter was very nice and honest about what taste good on the menu. The combination platter is a good choice. The cornbread dressing and carrot souffle are great sides. The shrimp pasta is good as well. The Bow Wow drink is tasty
Everything was amazing! Just a bit small. Cozy atmosphere. Music was a bit loud (all conversations were loud) but after a half of a Bow Wow Fruit Punch...the music was fine. Would definitely recommend to everyone!! Get the carrot souffle and cornbread dressing and catfish and shrimp...
Food is absolutely amazing, service was fantastic. The place was absolutely packed but they still managed to take our order and get our food out quickly. The grilled redfish was amazing, it was cooked perfectly. It was perfectly crispy on the bottom. The sauce they serve with it is great. Neyow's fruit punch is so good!
Fantastic food at really decent prices. There are a lot of specials. Food is great. It comes quickly. Service is great. Portions are large. Gumbo was a but watered down but still delicious. I would definitely come back.
There wasn’t any room for the group of 6 of us, and we went to the bar. The bartender served us and we were able to eat at the bar. The food was more than good. I will be returning from South Carolina to eat here, the hospitality was amazing. All of the workers were professional and beautiful. Yes I highly highly recommend. The only thing that we did not agree upon is that we weren’t seated at a table so the gratuity shouldn’t have been added into our tabs as 5 or more people. We couldn’t even have conversations with each other because we sat spaced out at the bar. Gratuity only needs to be added when we are all seated at a table together. Other than that we all loved the HOMEMADE PUNCH ! And the apple martini. Thank you so much for training your workers to be professional and take care of their customers.
Great place, delicious food!
Arrived at 6:30pm on a Friday evening and after a 25 minute wait we were seated with a very knowledgeable server. I had, at his recommendation, the stuffed shrimp with the most delicious hush puppies I’ve ever had, green beans and a side of mac and cheese. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. We had a fantastic evening and will return anytime we are in the area.
A good southern restaurant. There food is cooked well but don't expect a lot of intense favor. Usually have to add hot sauce, salt and other condiments to add favor. But that maybe good for people who don't like a lot of salt on there food. Overall a solid restaurant with good food. Also try the Bow Wow Fruit Punch drink, it has tons of liquor and is very sweet. PS. you will get drunk
We went after highly recommended review I read. The food is good, not sure if the best Creole I've had but definitely solid. Had the red beans and rice, fried chicken and pork chop, after chargrilled oysters for appetizers. Those were really good!
Service on the other hand, at least that Saturday afternoon, was terrible. Maybe because we had to sit outside and they were just opening the patio up, were understaffed, I don't know. What I do know is everything took hours to get... Drinks, a waiter, the food, the check.
Inside, the restaurant looks pretty with the lightning and wooden tables and a well stocked bar. The patio could use some work. It looks a little raggedy.
Man! This is one of the best restaurants in New Orleans! Great atmosphere, knowledgeable and friendly staff. The food was superb! Best steak I ever had! Great drinks also. Good portions.
I think the locals want to keep this place to themselves. It's off the beaten path but worth it! I just want to say, I could do this whole write up on the side dishes alone. The dressing, the Mac n' cheese and the potato salad were so good, I ate them first! The chicken was season and fried to perfection!! I was grabbing at food off other people's plates.... I wanted to try everything. Finally, the bread pudding sent me right to heaven. We raved about that pudding for days!
While visiting N.O from Chicago this place was recommend to the 10 of us by serveral people. We decided to give it a try and my oh my. I'm very impressed my the food and staff member, although is was quite cold inside (air was to high) and we couldn't really get comfortable enough to enjoy our food I can say the food was tasteful, the oysters is to die for the fish was cooked to perfection and the steak was simply amazing. I will definitely be return when I visit again !
The wait is generally 15 to 20 minutes. The prices are moderate. The food is very good quality Very lightly seasoned with moderate portions. Families, couples and singles comprise the customer base. The staff is pleasant and we'll versed on the menu. Parking is sparse.
I can't say enough great things about this place.
You know you picked the right spot when the locals are willing to wait in line to eat there. First off the servers were fantastic. Quick service with a aside of Nalwins charm.
We tried the grilled oysters as our app and the we're quickly gobbled up by the table. Leaving the delicious juices to dip your bread in.
Hands down best gumbo we had on the trip. Rich flavored broth that I could drink by the litre.
Followed that up with the red beans and rice with a side of fried chicken.
Quite the meal but it was necessary because to wash it all down you had the house cocktail, the bow wow. 32oz of divine liquids.
Four of us had lunch here yesterday. One person ordered shrimp salad and it still had the tails on the shrimp. I ordered a shrimp po-boy which was good. Two others ordered crab cake entrees with macaroni and cheese. The atmosphere is good not too loud and overall clean. When it came time to pay the bill each person paid separately buy credit card except I paid with cash. The only problem is the waitress did not bring my change back so I could tip appropriately. Lastly the waitress indicated my shrimp sandwich came with shoestring fries which never arrived. Overall I would give it a 3 out of 5. Parking can be challenging at prime Time lunch hour.
The prices were reasonable, the fried fish melted in your mouth with the right amount of crunch. And the dressing was fantastic. I ordered off the children's menu and it was enough for me. They do charge .25 cents for take out
HANDS DOWN... THE BEST OYSTERS EVER!!!
Everything we had was so amazing!! From the po-boys to the gumbo to the red beans and rice to the infamous Bow Wows!!! Neyow's does not disappoint! All I can say is get there early because it gets crowded extremely fast along with the parking lot! The hostess was really nice and our server was phenomenal!!! We did not wait long for any of our appetizers, entrees, desserts nor drinks. Neyow's is my Happy Place when I visit home!
When you go there will be a line. They will give you an estimated wait time. Don't get discouraged the food and service is amazing. We were told 1 1/2 hour wait party of 6. We got a text 15 minutes later stating our table is ready. So many beautiful people work there. The engergy in this restaurant is simply marvelous. If you are reading this review. Try them for yourself. 😉
I wanna go back right now! Neyow's was recommended to my wife and I by the staff at the Crayon Case. We're so happy we went. Everything was amazing from food to drinks to service to decor. We will definitely be back the next time we're in NOLA.
The food was amazing. The portion sizes are average but the food is delicious. The chargrilled oysters are some of the best that I've had. Oh and the Pasta on the Bayou is excellent. The wait was shorter than quoted and the staff was very friendly. The food also came out quickly. I wasn't disappointed with anything. Quick note. If you order the seafood combination platter the stuffed shrimp is only one shrimp. That took me by surprise. Other than that no complaints at all.
I visited during Essence Music Festival weekend. They had the best catfish during my stay. The smoked oysters were being shucked fresh and cooked out front. My best friend had the seafood pasta which she said was good. This local spot was crowded and had a DJ and outdoor seating. Seating was a little unorganized and would have like a bigger serving but definitely a great spot to visit.
This place is great, it has fantastic food choices. The service and knowledge of the server was wonderful. I would highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner. It has a great atmosphere, I will definitely be back. Enjoy!
Best food I’ve had so far in Nola. It’s a fun chill environment. I really enjoyed the outside area! Met a few people that live in my city! Not to mention the prices are reasonable.
Neyow's is always good when I go there. They get pretty busy around dinner time so allow yourself appropriate time. If you're just going to eat quick and it's busy. Just walk to the bar outside and sit there. There's usually open spots even when there's 3 or 4 groups waiting.
I read so many good reviews about the food here. I was sorely disappointed. The green beans had no seasoning. They tasted liked they had only been boiled in water. The parsley potatoes were lacking in seasoning as well. The stuffed shrimp looked like hush puppies. The shrimps were small. I was very disappointed. The parking lot was small. However the service was good and the staff was attentive.
The food was pretty good but not super zesty. The shrimp salad was pretty good. My husband got the gumbo and it was yummy but he added lots of hot sauce and salt pepper.
I probably would have given this place more stars if the food was worth the hour (plus) long wait. It was frustrating to see people who showed up thirty minutes after us get seated immediately while we still waited. Maybe there was call ahead seating/reservations that we didn't know about?
We came to New Orleans for a vacation and asked plenty of locals for good food recommendations and Neyow's was fondly spoken of. We went on a Saturday night around 9pm and there was a two hour wait. So I knew that the food had to fabulous and it was! The service was great as well. We enjoyed our food and tried many different things. The only thing I would not get again is the fried pork chop. It was very bland and dry.
Omg one of my favorite places to eat when I visit New Orleans!!! All the food I had was delicious! Even if you have a wait just get you the signature bow wow drink, you won't be disappointed!!! It's definitely worth it!! Portion sizes are great! That's the owner in the middle!
This was amazing. The food was very authentic and soulful. The only downside (which is a plus for most) is the really large portion sizes. It was hard not to waste this food before my flight but it is definitely a bang for your buck!
We tried to visit this place on Sunday and the line was wrapped around the building. We decided to come today and it was much better. Be prepared for the joy
Just a heads up that they include a 18% tip for parties of five or more, so any tip you give outside of that is additional. This is definitely a restaurant to check out in New Orleans!
The atmosphere is great. First time I've been in a place and everyone inside started singing happy birthday. Later we sing some other song. It was amazing. Now onto the food. I have never been a fan, but my friends love the place. Our waiter for pleasant. Thoughtful. Etc.
