Warm and friendly gathering place. Vera Warren holds it down with loyal supporter Jennifer Turner.
The personification of African American exposures, networking and familyhood. Meet Vera Warren-Williams, the essence of New Orleans and Jennifer Turner, Queen-Mama. Go to shop, meet& greet.

When the activated are in NOLA, see what happens when you sift through the garden of experiences on the shelves! Peace 2bliss, j3❤
Beautiful and inspiring environment. So very glad I added this place to our visit list. An absolute must for black children.
Wonderful book store. Great staff & community! Left with some awesome books and knowledge.
A lovely bookstore specializing in cultural gifts, cloth, reading and more..and if they don't have what you are looking for they will gladly order it.
Community Book Center is one of the few remaining physical African American book stores and is a staple for our community! Vera and Mamma Jen provide more than books and gifts, they provide a place for all to come together, a seat at the elders table, and an opportunity to share our talents.
Lovely community based spot. Owner and staff are friendly and knowledgeable about events going on in the area and the city.
Explore the center for the treasures found in its books, clothing ,art, oils and soaps. The power of Community Book Center is the blessings of empowerment, resilience, self-love, and education.
An institution in the New Orleans Black community for almost 40 years. This is the best place in the city to find self-published books my Black writers and a one stop shop for fabric, art, clothing and souvenirs created by local Black artisans. The community events they hold are a great way to get connected with the Black community in New Orleans and the elders who run the place, Mama Vera and Mama Jennifer, are fonts of community knowledge and no nonsense wisdom.
Support the community and Make a stop and a purchase at Community! The neighboring stores are worth a visit also!!
If you can read it ,either they will have it or can get it. Also a great place to express and hear the voice of the community.
The Community Book Center has an array of amazing books for all ages! I'm from California so I really enjoyed the variety of African American children's books that I've never seen in my local bookstores. It's easy to get lost in there looking at all the different book titles and skimming the pages. The women who worked the store on the day I visited were very friendly, helpful, with colorful personalities. It's a great neighborhood book store.
I love this place! When we lived in N.O. we not only purchased books there, we visited for community events and workshops. Our children enjoyed participating in arts and crafts, book readings and cultural events. It's a community gem and since moving to another state we've found nothing like it.
Love going here so much I feel like I'm part of the family. The knowledge and wisdom within those walls is abundant!!!
The best bookstore ever! Everyone treats everyone like family in this supportive atmosphere.
First time visiting with a friend in this warm bookstore. Outside was a shelf of previously used books with a promotion of filling your bag up with them for $5.00. Upon entering, Community Book Center was well lit surrounded by warm color tones. The book selection is mainly African-American, and could use more books. The selection was very diverse and inclusive was all genres.
This bookstore also sells clothing and bags. I will return here in the future!
The center is an eclectic mix of knowledge transfer either through discussions, music and videos, or obscure books. The owner was friendly and helpful. A good place to visit.
Always a good time and i buy at least a couple good books each time I'm in there.
This is a wonderful place. It has a great selection of books and she can order those that are not in stock. Ms. Vera's book store is a great community gathering place as well. It has a great collection of African centered arts and crafts.
Awesome bookstore with lots of books locally written for kids and New Orleans history with a focus on black culture. It's great!
Visited from Atlanta and had the best conversation with the lady and gentleman running the store. The books were intriguing and the vibe inviting. Bought a book about Creole culture. I'm a New Orleans native and Creole, so it felt great to find such a connection with people, books and culture.
I was rather disappointed this trip. I went to get a Kwanzaa book for my child and "the one" they'd ordered for the season was sold out. I expect an African American book store to have something like books on Kwanzaa well stocked all the time.
What a great local venue to pass the afternoon reading and talking with others. Great selection of books!
My experience there was amazing. They were friendly and made me feel like I was at home among loved ones. My daughters really enjoyed themselves.
We picked up some great reads. Very organic atmosphere! Thank u Mama Jenn!
This small in space, but large in quality and quantity bookstore exceeds all expectations. Been there several times and have never been disappointed. From kids books to paintings, from art work to clothing they've got it. A definite Afrocentric flair embodies the surroundings. You can feel it when you walk through the door. Authors and book signings also grace this space. One of the best kept secrets in the City, but not in literary circles. Give them a visit and you'll be as impressed as I always am.
Community book center is a great place to buy books and have great conversation on culture. They have been In the community for more than 20years, I love their energy.
