How would you rate New Center Eatery?
I am here now making a complaint, I ordered country fried steak, they brought the food out pretty fast and it was raw! I ask for it well done, I cut open and blood running out, so gross, we took it back to get it well done and. took forever to bring out, the country fried steak finally came to the table and it was nasty! No taste or nothing, just bland, I should of stuck with the turkey club sandwich! Never again!!
I live in Grand Rapids, but every time I come to Detroit I have to make a stop at New Center Eatery. This most recent trip was phenomenal! I ordered the peach cobbler waffle. The first was a little over cooked so Chef Paul remade my waffle personally and it was overwhelmingly delicious!!!!!! The customer service is superb and the food is second to none!
Love this place, Best place to get food after weekend parties cause they are open til 4. Food is great and doesn't look processed or artificial. Pancakes and waffles are top notch. Chicken better than Captain Jay's. All they need now is a parking lot..
Had the country fried steak. Steak tasted fatty. Didn't have appearance of traditional country fried steak. Eggs and hashbrowns, had better. Waffles are the bomb. A+ for the waffles. Service mixed. Don't like paying before I eat. My server was top notch. A+ to the young man.
Placed a 2 entree carryout. Waiting in line didn't take too long (I came at changeover, so there was a bit of wait while they changed cash drawers). The food didn't take too long either, despite the place being packed. Ordered two chicken and waffle combos. Everything was great! Definitely will be back.
This place is fun with great food. The staff is extremely nice and took their time to answer all my questions. I got the waffle, egg, cheese and beef sausage sandwich and it was the perfect lunch.
Very glad I stopped into this place yesterday. The menu is extensive, with lots of options for Chicken and Waffles. YUM! Only criticism was it took a while to get our drinks and we were parched! The place was quite full and I understand why! Looking forward to going back and trying more of their menu.
Food is hot & delicious, service is always speedy & polite. Always go here especially for chicken and waffles!
This is my favorite place for breakfast. Their hash browns are THE BEST! Obviously, try the waffles, but I've also had their veggie quesadilla and it was delicious. The process for service is a bit different as you order and pay at the counter but BE SURE TO TIP YOUR SERVER! They still wait on you etc. Don't be a jerk ;)
This is a cash only restaurant but they have an ATM! The food was sooo delicious. I ordered the smothered fried chicken with a side salad and mashed potatoes. Wow! So yummy! And our waitress was the sweetest person on earth. Can't wait to get back home to Detroit and eat here again.
BEST CHICKEN AND WAFFLES. New center is cash only but offers a HUGE menu of breakfast and lunch items. They even have late hours on the weekends
I walked in just under an hour before close and I must say the service was still exceptional. I will definitely come here again!!!
OMG...BEST CHICKEN N WAFFLES EVER....PEOPLE GREAT...THEY HAVE A VERY EXTENSIVE MENU WITH OTHER FOODS.
The chicken and waffles are such a staple to this place. It was such a treat! Unfortunately the day we went (there were 3 of us on New Year's Day) they were severely understaffed and there was only one waitress working the whole restaurant. It was apparent that she was frustrated, but after talking with her about it, she lightened up. Parking was enclosed and plentiful. I was sad they ran out of catfish so early in the day as well but I was still extremely satisfied with my meal.
First time. Got Corn Beef and Hash to go which was awesome. Fresh and made with pride. Staff was professional and courteous.
Love love love the food 🙌🏽✊🏽☝🏽
I love the food ! It's just like it's made right out your kitchen ... Love the salmon croquets
This place on any day is great. I have traveled & ate a lot of places and this place has home cooked food down packed with a little extra soul in it. They are small and in a unique little off the beaten track, but they are worth the stop. smothered chicken a favorite, yams, greens, and macaroni I loved. If you want fancy this isn't it, but if you want small, unique, the real thing, flavorful, and add on some great little deserts you wont be disappointed!!!! Great place
Very good food! Be ready to wait a long time, even for carryout. Getting to the register whether you are eating in or getting carryout takes a anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. Very limited seating, and not the best service. But again, food is very good and prices and portions are respectable too!
Late night and brunch place, large menu. Few gf options. Tasty and hearty down home soul food. Not very fast.
The chicken is AMAZING. The portion sizes are also very generous given what you're paying for. The only thing that was confusing for me was the set-up of the restaurant. You walk in, order at a counter and then a waitress brings you your food and drink. The waitress seemed a little less than excited to be there but otherwise it was awesome.
After being released from the hospital on Tuesday, came for lunch on 3/24/17. This was my first outing, and I almost couldn't believe that I was being treated like a bother by the general manager at the New Center Eatery. I have a blood clot in my left leg, so I took a seat at a table to avoid standing in a line that was nearly out of the door. My husband took his place in line only to get to the order area to be told that I couldn't seat myself, yet the sign stating this was not posted where it could be clearly seen. Shortly thereafter, the general manager came to the table, snatched a # card from the table, mumbled something as she looked angrily at me. The food is spectacular, but not enough for mean behavior. Time
The food here is absolutely amazing. It's great all around. Buy make sure you ha e like 2 hours to eat, because the service is slower than literally any restaurant I've ever been to. So, if you have the time....Check it out.
Chicken is the best. WAFFLES are light and fluffy. I would like at least 2 whole strawberries for my original meal.
Pretty good food. Sometimes can overcook the country fried steak and the wings are a tad small but food is still good. Late hours (open until 4am friday-Sat) are a plus but CASH ONLY can be a bit of an inconvenience unless you want to pay for an overpriced ATM fee. Overall pretty good but not perfect.
I've been coming here for 15 years. They are hands-down the best New Center Eatery in MI. The wings are perfectly Crispy. They are usually packed around dinner time but the servers are quick and friendly.
After a rap concert we was looking for late night meal. Ran across this place by accident. One of the best waffles not a a lot syrup needed. Fast service, very friendly staff. Will come back this summer. #deliciousholeinthewall
I love this place! Food is outstanding and service is friendly! This is about the only place I will stand in line to get in.
Three words: Worth the wait. The waffles are delicious and the chicken is some of the best. Almost everything on the menu is made to order so you will wait, but your food is always fresh and hot every single time. Also, the sweet tea and arnold palmer are great accompaniments.
The girls was a lil slow or messing with me because they like me but good food and nice environment
We loved it here. Food was phenomenal, try the Sexy Kitty! Service was friendly, but a little slow. Nothing worthy of complaint. The vibe was fun and funky. Best chicken we've had in Detroit.
This place was fantastic I enjoyed a wonderful breakfast of the house special Chicken and Waffles. The chicken was hot and crispy and the waffles were cooked perfectly. I will recommend to everyone who visits Detroit
Was the only person in line, stood there for 5 minutes, no service. I understand this is probably a great place to eat, but that's unacceptable.
This visit was fantastic. I always enjoyed eating here, the chicken and waffles are second to none. This visit the service when you walk in to order, was fast (normally a little too slow for me) the waitress was great and the food was excellent. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Not a very big place though but I'm sure anyone would enjoy.
TERRIBLE WASTE OF MONEY!! I went here a few weeks ago after viewing positive reviews (big mistake) to try their "famous chicken and waffles" I ordered the "Auntie Jean" first of all infused with bananas and walnuts?? It was extremely dry there was not enough strawberries and the chicken was dry flavorless (even though it was supposed to be infused with hot sauce and seasonings) it tasted burnt ! I've never disliked chicken and waffles so much in my life smh , on top of that it costs $3.75 for a cran delight (cranberry and orange juice) waste of money!!! the glass was tiny and filled up with ice even if I hadn't gotten ice the glass was so small a few sips and its gone. I honestly don't understand the positive reviews go elsewhere because this place is trash ! the only thing that was nice was the service not the food!
Best Chicken and Waffles I've ever had, would not recommend eating here unless you are comfortable eating in a small space though. Order your food, and leave. Service was also nice and fast.
The food here is great the waffles are the best! The service is great as well. It takes time to get your food and you stand in line for a bit before ordering but it is worth it. The decor is nostalgic with pictures of famous actors and singers. The music is appropriate to the atmosphere. Kids will like the options but may get restless waiting for food. I suggest bringing something to keep them occupied in line and waiting for the food! All and all this is a great place and I go everytime I'm in town!
20 minutes after we ordered they came to tell us my son's order wasn't available. After that we waited ANOTHER 20 minutes before we got our order. When our food finally arrived it was barely room temperature and mine was wrong. I was HUGELY disappointed, especially since the prices were so high, I expected WAAAAY better. I called myself taking my family out for a nice Sunday breakfast to get our day started and it BLEW UP in my face. I WON'T BE GOING BACK. If New Center Eatery is the location, I'll just have to sit that 1 out! I only gave it 1 star since my waitress wasn't terrible, otherwise they would have 0 or -1.
The food was okay. I had salmon croquettes, very bland. The ambience was zero and the restaurant was freezing. I went to use the bathroom and realized the heat was OFF. I would not recommend; not health conscious. I also did nit find the cashier friendly at all
All I can say is perfect all the way around.. Food perfect service perfect
Every time i go im there it's always smiling faces! The customer service in nearest so amazing The Waitresses are nice they always look decent!! I never had a waitress with the bad attitude or didn't know what she was doing. The restrooms are always clean as well!! Now the food is AMAZING! Has to be the best chicken and waffles I've ever tasted plus they have a variety of other food like soul food. The greens and macaroni and cheese I'm Tasty!! Overall this restaurant is great!!!!!
Update: my waffle was raw inside. It wasn't from the butter or syrup. It was simply undercooked. They brought me another and it was exactly the same.... I get tired of going places with inconsistent quality. Its always a let down when you know how great something can be and it falls flat. 3 stars for inconsistency.
Original Review: The jazzy chicken tenders and cinnamon waffle was so clutch!!!! I don't really like the lining up at the door and paying before you sit down, especially since it still felt like forever until we got our food or were tended to. But the food was great. Atmosphere was great. And the prices weren't bad either. Parking can be trickt if they're packed. Just have to find a spot on the street and feed the meter.
Best chicken and waffles hands down! Everything on the menu is delicious and I always have really nice servers when I'm in there. That chicken is so well seasoned and piping hot! I wish the place was bigger but I don't care, I'm still a fan. Keep up the great work, this restaurant is a gem.
This place is AMAZING..the food is so good, GREAT customer service!!! The only thing I can say that's not good is it's small and crowded!!! They need to add more space. But they do have take out...LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I can eat here EVERYDAY ALL DAY!!!
Not what I thought it would be. Expect to wait in a queue- you have to order @ register before seating yourself- and a long wait for food. I had the Magnolia plate. Chicken was good, but no maple syrup, just table syrup that's thin and makes the waffle soggy- oh , and when they say " with strawberries" there was one strawberry on the waffle cut in quarters.. Not one time did our server check on us for further assistance or beverage refill. Website makes the place appear bigger than it really is...
I found this restaurant on one of those must-have eating places in Detroit! It definitely is a must-have if you visit Detroit. The food, service and the atmosphere is great. It's a bit small and tight, buuuuutttt worth it! Did I say the food was AMAZING!? IT IS!
Looking for some great SOUL FOOD! I was too & found it at New Center Eatery! Great menu. Tried something new! A Turkey Chop! It was delicious as seen in the picture. Also, the Slam breakfast was great! Customer service was friendly and stellar. Needed directions to go shopping and just conversation in general. 70s music was on point! Very nice, helpful staff. Place is Easy to find. Parking available all around. Will go again!
The best chicken waffle you will ever have. Get the chicken gravy on chicken strips . The collard green is really good. Usually a line but it's worth it!
The Grandma Hudson is delicious met the gentleman that said that does the recipe for the batter southern Georgia style waffles best I ever had. Chicken nice and big, golden flaky and the hot sauce is Divine.
The food is great and seating is up close and personal to speak with other patrons about your meal. Its family owned and they did a good job of servicing us for a small staff ordering system is a little different but they make it work. I was happy to add to their success and plan to do so in the future
Very very long wait to stand in line to place your food order.Very limited seating. After you place your order- expect 1 to 1 1/2 hour wait for your food. I was very excited to try this restaurant due it's reputation. I can't tell how the food was because I am still waiting.........
Horrible service, the employees have no idea what's in their food. Asked about a food allergy and got a rude and arrogant response while the other employees/hostesses had absolutely no idea about any ingredients. Did not feel welcomed at all!
The food is 5 star. Always consistantly awesome and the only place to get out of this world, bar none, the best chicken and waffles in this world. The waitress was courteous and checked on us several times to see if we needed anything. She was 5 star as well. The table area was clean. The only drawback was this mildew smell that hit you as soon as you open the outside door when entering the resturant. I don't know if they had basement water damage or what, but that smell is very unappetizing. I hope they rectify that soon because this is too good of a place for dining to have this count against them.
Food was excellent. I got the chicken and waffles and my friend got the French toast club sandwich and both meals were perfect. I'd rate higher than 5 stars if I could.
Good food. Out waitress was extremely friendly. The cashier wasn't as friendly, we were first time customers from another state. She seemed a bit impatient with us. Overall, nice environment and good food. The salmon salad was great! Perfectly seasoned!
don't get chicken and waffles anywhere else if you haven't had them here, and if you have get them again. they perfected the detroit delicacy here. wait time can be long, but the food always delivers. really fun location in new center, a place where you can feel the excitement of Detroit building.
Nice place for soul food if you like chicken and waffles! This was one of the only places open down here on Sunday afternoon. They were moderately busy, good sized crowd. Your food is cooked to order so please be patient
They simply MUST clean this place!! There were flies and fruit flies buzzing around. There is an unbelievable foul smell as soon as you enter. The upholstery on the booth benches were torn and the cotton stuffing is coming out.
The floor is sticky. I don’t even want to talk about how disgusting the bathroom is. I was scared to eat anything!!! Come on New Center Eatery you can do much better than what you are doing!!! Looks like it was nice at some point in the past but not anymore!! Your presentation starts at your front door.
It’s similar to serving good food on a garbage can lid
Great place for brunch. the Catfish and eggs is my signature meal but the chicken tenders are also crisp and very tasty. Expect a wait on Saturday morning since it isn't the largest space inside. I'd suggest ordering for pick up. A lot of people say this place is hit or mis but I've never had a ad experience.
I was excited about the thought of coming to your restaurant. I was excited about my the menu choice. Fish and grits, yes, I was excited about the fact that I was about to socialize with my friend for the 15 minute wait to get my food. But when my food came, you would think that after all that wait time, my food would be hot. Nope, my fish was fried to a crisp, dark brown. My grits were so stiff. I was like, what is this, really, they sent this out. Made me wonder if they really care about their customers. Cold, burnt, stiff breakfast on a Saturday morning. Very disappointed. Very disappointed!!
Visited from Seattle for a conference and I’m so thankful that we had a friend from Detroit with us who took us here! So good our group went for breakfast and came back from dinner. Real soul food. Execellent seasoning, excellent service, and a great vibe. LOVE. Eat here! You won’t regret it! I had grits, bacon, French toast and eggs for breakfast and then I had the shrimp dinner, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Soooo damn good.
I have heard great things about this restaurant through family and media, so I have visited this place once before.
One thing you notice right away is the smell of mold/mildew in the entryway. Something leads me to believe this building is not watertight, so it really isn't the fault of the restaurant but needs to be addressed.
Food is decently priced. I realized the waitress was sitting by the register and there were 4-5 booth tables that needed to be cleared, so I was unable to sit at one. Two tables ended up being cleared by the time I ate and left. My food came quickly and it was hot. Average experience. Was met with that mold smell on the way out. Seriously, they need to get that taken care of.
The chicken and waffles are delicious and tasty. The chicken was fried to perfection, seasoned very well. The service was okay but the food was the best part.
I used to love their food... until they had some health scares and the wait for to go service was yucky.. Not sure why they closed down🤷🏾
They have a light selection of very delicious foods often times when I'm running late afternoon I'll stop in at the Eatery just to find something to snack on and the quiet quaint atmosphere lens to a good experience thank you
Ther first time I went was awesome. Subsequent visits were not as good. The place smelled like mold and the chicken was overcooked. The waffles were good.
Good food atreasonable prices.
We went to have breakfast and had to wait in a long line before we even got to order, about 30 minutes. Once we ordered we found a seat and breakfast came in about 30 minutes. We had omelettes, and they were delicious! It was worth the wait. The wait staff was attentive and worked hard, I appreciated their effort. But, I will say, walking through the front door to a broken window in door and bad smell in the entry initially made me want to leave, I am glad we stayed.
This little gem is nestled in across the street from the "Historic" Hotel St. Regis. Let me tell you it is amazing! It is one of those little eateries, deli-style places where the cooks are pros at what do. They may not be chefs by any means but they know their craft and what they are doing. Came here for breakfast and it was hearty and delicious right down to the last bite. Menu is broad and they are famous for their Chicken and Waffles. A friend of mine also staying for the same event had these and she said they were to die for. Service was fantastic and though the food took a bit to get to us it was well worth the wait. Prices are very reasonable and I would visit here again should I be in the vicinity!
Had lunch there after a meeting in the fisher building. Good food 🍲.
Very sad it is closed ..Nice southern style soup
I hate they closed down! It was an amazing place
Place is kind of small but excellent food
Food: Best chicken waffle I have ever had. Make sure to get the one with CHICKEN gravy and chicken strips. It is to die for. The collard greens are also...read this and 185 more
