I have visited the Shepherd location a few times for products & truly loved the atmosphere. So, I was existed to go to the Salon in Sugarland for a Deva Cut. So, I looked on their website & it was recommended that a consultation is scheduled first for new clients. Therefore, I scheduled for a consultation. I arrived at the location & it is gorgeous. I met with the stylist and she was knowledgeable and listened to my concerns, however she then explain that she does not cut hair, there is another stylist that does this. So, of course I was disappointed. I thought a consultation will be with the stylist that will work with you to help you obtain your hair goals, not a fellow stylist. I think that the website should make it clear that only certain stylist are available for certain styles. If I looked over that piece of information...then I apologize, however I will not return for my cut.. I gave it four stars because it is a beautiful salon, but my experience was not what I was hoping for.

Please be aware that this business has low integrity. In seeing that they opened a salon, I scheduled an appointment for Dec 30 for a rod set. The website requires you pay the entire cost upfront, so I paid $95 for the service. On the day of my appointment, I arrive on time and after a short wait, I am taken back to get my hair washed. After that, the stylist, Tonya, quickly looks at my hair and says it is too short to do a rod set and if she does it it won't look good. I'm confused because I've seen a ton of pictures of nice looking rod sets on hair shorter than mine. I'm slightly frustrated and since she is saying she does not know how to properly do the style on my hair there is no point on moving forward with her. I ask my options and am switched to another stylist for a basic blowout which is listed on their website to cost $65 and up. After getting the most basic blowout with the curls already falling, this is when it gets bad. They refuse to refund the $30 difference in what I already paid and the service I received. They even attempt to come up with reasons on why the blowout should cost $95 because my hair is natural. Are you serious? That is the whole purpose of a blowout! After being treated poorly and having to wait almost an hour to get things resolved with the owner Paula, I am told they put in a refund for $30 back to my card. Now it has been 3 weeks and several calls in which I spoke directly to the owner and I still have not received my refund. This business does not have integrity. If you require your clients to pay up front, then refuse to give them the service they paid for and furthermore not refund their money and treat them respect, you are not running a business that will succeed.

The ladies does great hair. However to charge $75 to do 10 plait s in natural hair is insane. Secondly, my card was charged 37.50 and $75 a total of 112.50 which is why whoever came up with this bright idea lto charge your card before your appointment is not ideal. This caused a check to bounce because they over charged my account. Now I have to call them and go through unnecessary changes for there mistake. Smh

I love the salon, the beauty supply and the stylist Akelia. My daughter has a disability and Akelia was patient, knowledgeable and caring. We had a little hiccup with the payment system Jitterbug) they charged my card twice. However, it was resolved within a matter of a couple of days. I went to the hair salon in Sugarland and it was a waste of my time, gas, and money. I don't know when driving 45min to a 15 min appt to let someone play in your hair became worth $35. Went in for the consultation and received no information. All she did was play in my hair and ask me questions. When I said I used the LOC method she looked confused and thought I wanted to lock my hair. (But she's the expert.) Said I needed a trim and that I had to reschedule for it. I didn't understand why the trim couldn't be done at that moment. She said I was supposed to schedule 2 appts and I was like how was I supposed to know that when it says I can't schedule anything until I have the consultation. I felt more so she was rushing me out the chair because they didnt have a stylist available for my consultation, I overheard them say they were overbook that morning, and her client had arrived. I went to the receptionist and she said a stylist was supposed to come in at 10 am and they were going to see if she could do it, but to be safe, they scheduled me an appt for 11:45. Mind you I don't live anywhere near here so I'm stuck trying to waste time before the appt. at 1030 I get a call saying the stylist who was coming in at 10am was late and they wont be able to service me at 1145 either despite having a confirmed appt. No explanation. Just no. So I basically wasted my time and money and my hair still needs a trim.

I came in for the detangling session which I paid for the night before. In the comments section upon payment I also mentioned I wanted my hair washed, conditioned and braided. I was hopeful to find a stylist I could have tend to my hair on a regular basis. My appointment was at 9am and apparently was the same time they opened because the staff arrived a couple minutes before I did. My particular stylist was late by a few minutes which was no problem at all. She sat me at the bowl to wash my hair & within 10mins the receptionist said her next appointment had arrived. I was a bit confused as I had only been sitting for approx 10mins. I included in my appointment comments that my hair had massive product buildup from a treatment gone wrong the night before. I even arrived an hour early & a half early because I wanted to be on time & lived far being unaware of the rush hour traffic flow. With this said I didn't understand how 15mins would be a suitable timeframe to even detangle my hair. As expected the stylist had no choice but to rip & tug at my hair as she didnt have enough time to let the conditioner sit on my hair. The stylist was a very nice young lady that expressed that she was new & didn't quite know how the bookings worked. Seeing I was dissatisfied another stylist came to explain that I needed to book for multiple sessions. I've never seen a hair salon ran that way which I would have been ok with doing had my service needed been listed (you must pre pay on the web) and had the site explained this. The stylist had a bit of a rude attitude & told me that she was booked the rest of the day but she informed management who explained the same process & offered to squeeze me in about an hour and a half later. I declined the offer. The salon decor is beautiful & I had such a great experience with the owners mother at the other location I spent $150 on products. Needless to say I'm disappointed my salon experience wasn't the same. I was looking forward to a stylist that would take time to tend to my coils & of course willing to pay for great service but this salon came up short for me personally. I love supporting black owned businesses & since I'm told this is a new salon I'm hopeful things will get better with the booking. Best of luck

**This review is for the salon part of tendrils and curls**

I will never spend another dime at Tendrils and Curls as it was a complete waste of $90. If I could give zeros stars I would. The owner Paula and front desk staff Erica were not helpful at all in resolving a miscommunication between the shop and their employee. All of my Houston friends steer clear of Tendrils and Curls. The stylist Marissa is at fault for changing a service while I was already in the chair and not informing me there was a change in price, but after calling the owner Paula, the issue was still not resolved and I was charged an additional fee.

All this being said they charge customers before they even start on your hair, this should have been the first indication of how badly things would go. A customer should not be penalized for failure to communicate between their own staff and management. I tried to give the place a fair shot even after reading negative reviews, because I like to support my own. The fact that I was the only client and that there were at least 6 vacant boothes should have been a tip-off to make my way to the nearest exit. I hope that Paula understands that she had just lost hundreds in potential revenue to collect an ill-gotten $15. This is not how business should be done, I give the shop another few months before it goes belly up.

The owner called me to discuss the situation after I posted a review to Tendrils and Curls Facebook page. I told her that I was uninterested in returning for a free make up service but appreciated the offer. The whole experience had left such a sour taste in my mouth that I didn't want to deal with them anymore period. She said that she would refund the extra $15, but has yet to. I asked Paula to give me a call the following day to discuss the situation further as I was still pretty upset.

Before the situation could be rectified two of her employees decided to respond to my post with name calling, excuses and accusations. After two of her employees proceeded to argue with me regarding my experience on a public forum, the salon then reports my post to Facebook to have my review removed. I used no curse words or threatening language so this was just an futile attempt to save face after the fact.

Reporting an honest review to Facebook is shady at best. Paula, the owner should have addressed her employees unprofessional comments instead of having my review deleted. A businesses employees arguing with a customer on a public forum is pathetic, do better Paula. As I stated on Facebook the people at Tendrils and Curls could seriously use a course on business etiquette 101. People beware of this salon. Also, I will continue to post my honest opinion of my experience on every social platform available.

The salon is the worst I have ever visited. My consult when they first opened was okay so I decided to come back. First I will start with the front desk...a girl named Erica was very rude and short with me. I was asking questions after I booked to make sure I understood. But it was as if I was the problem! Rude. Then my stylist...Emma was moving very quickly and did not engage me. It made me feel like I was in her way. She had an attitude the whole time..very ratchet! I will not recommend this place to anyone.

My first time at Tendrils and Curls exceeded my expectations. I let Emma do a very short cut on me and I love it! She, along with the other ladies, were very helpful. They don't recommend relaxing the hair or any harmful chemicals, I was recommended the best products to use for curly hair. The environment of the salon is upscale and comfortable. Sure, they are very pricey, but it's worth the trip(s).

It was a fair experience. Even though I did have to purchase a consultation which is by the way a joke. The chick was like ohhh I didn't know you had a consultation she wasn't going to do it had I not said anything.....also it does not really tell you nothing that will ohh so change your life. Moving forward my daughter received her first silk press it last about two weeks..., she did have quite of bit of burns on her scalp so she wasn't to happy about that.... overall the experience was ok will I recommend hmmmm or come back hmmmmm ....... I just expected more because of the tho they do sell hair products which seems helpful but it's still a guessing game because the products they recommend are not the same that are used the day of your don't know what the future holds still looking for a natural home for my hair maintenance.

Do not get the faux locs!!! I had to go back in to get them fixed and now two weeks after that they are unraveling, the extensions have come out and they do not look professionally done at all. I called and they said I still had to pay the &85 for the retouch. The girl that does them is very sweet but fronthe price they charge is a beginners job. What I thought would last months will not have to be taken out and done over at another place. I'm very disappointed in the job and how the salon handled my concerns.

So typically I either forget or don’t make the time to write a review whether service is good or bad, but today I am so outdone I wanted to submit a review. I arrive for my 12pm appointment a little late like 5 minutes but was hoping it was okay. It was fine and I was even able to step out for 10 minutes to take care of business so I’m back about 12:20pm. The person doing my hair is still not done. Fine. I’m used to waiting at hair salons and honestly since I didn’t book my appointment early I figure there would be a wait. But I waited an hour for another person to tell me my original stylist wouldn’t be able to see me because she still wasn’t done and could I come back at 3pm. I had no choice. I had taken my braids out the previous day and I have an event this wknd. So I come back around 3pm and throughout the whole process I’m asking the lady doing my hair if she will give me a conditioner and things that come standard with my hair appointment. By the end I’m just praying my hair comes out alright so I can now sit in traffic and get back on my side of town. I despise when my time is wasted especially when there is a set appointment time! Don’t know if I’ll be coming here again. There are not many natural hair salons and typically the ladies I’ve had working on my hair do a good job but I am just very angry by the service today.

I was highly disappointed with my experience this past weekend. As a new customer, I purchased the First Timer Package. My card was charged the $95 prior to service, but I did not mind because I assumed it was a reflection of the immaculate service I would receive. My appointment was at 8:30am. When I walked in the owner was unpleasant and unwelcoming. My appointment started close to an hour late, however, the policy posted in the salon claims that they "pride them selves on timely service". I paid a nanny to be there, and was upset that my time was not valued. At the end of the hour wait, the owner said NOTHING to me...but I'm sure my money was in her account. At the end of my appointment my stylist said, "I'm sorry, I forgot your trim. I know you paid so we can do it next time free." I would have much rather preferred a refund of some sort, considering I had to pay the nanny extra for their lack of time management. Typically I would have walked out of an establishment after about 20 minutes with no recognition, but I was so excited about the appointment that I decided to wait it out. Ultimately, I will not be back, nor would I recommend the salon to a friend or family member. I will say, the salon is very presentable and comfortable. My stylist went above and beyond to try to find a style to suit my hair type. It's unfortunate, because a little concern could have resolved the dissatisfaction. My appointment was (Monday), my hair is slicked back in a ball. Waste of my money & time.
