Great caribbean food, great drinks, lunch Buffett, small caribbean grocery next door, nightclub club lounge with live dj at night time.

How would you rate MP Island Cafe'?
1) Decent tasting food. 2) Decent prices. 3) Professional staff.
1) Buffet food, although in warmers that are uncovered, is luke warm at best. I had to ask waitress to heat up my buffet food in the microwave. They need to keep the buffet food warm and all of the buffet food trays covered, i.e. not just 3 out of the 19 trays covered. It's only hot, if you are lucky enough to be there when they bring the food out to the trays.
2) I suspect that some of the food in the buffet is from cans, i.e. string beans, etc, as opposed to being fresh from the earth.
3) Coco-Bread I got was not stale yet, but it wasn't fresh and soft.
Dj was good , the security made inappropriate criticism ..
false advertisement no damn 25 cent wings!!!all of a sudden 50 cent wings ....but on the website n flier it says 25 cent on weds.....smh
Groceries, dining, and night club, one stop shop for all you multitaskers.
Too much Damn karaoke
Authentic Jamaican food in Virginia, cooked to perfection. Waitstaff is nice, and very fast. Dont know anything about the club side of the place, since I only go there for the food and grocery. But they have THE BEST ox tail and lunch buffet! *yummy* I drive 2 hours to go there with the family, and can't wait till my next trip
Delicious stew chicken & I Love their Buffet!!!
Ordered jerk chicken. Sauce Tastes like sh*t !
I use to eat there until my cousin from NC told me it was a roach on the buffet counter just chillin, and that was their first time going smh. Food was good but I'll pass now. If i could give no stars I would👎 MP better get that place sanatized before somebody call the inspector smh.
Five stars speaks for itself... I had Jerk chicken for lunch, rice nd collard. It was soo gooood. Also got beef patty w/coco bread. Yummy! Great customer service! Go check it out!!!!! I'm going for oxtails next
Great Service all around, staff is exceptional and service is great. I will be coming back. Food was fresh and the restaurant was clean. You will love the jerk chicken and curry chicken. The best in Hampton Roads hands down.
good food and great people..they work hard to keep the people happy.. keep grindin!! jack of spade
Had such a great time! The food and drinks were on point! Our drinks were $9.50 a piece but I can honestly say it was well worth it.
The customer service by one lady imparticular was horrible. I went to the line where all the food was being served and asked for one item (beef patty). The lady gave me grief because the proper line was on the market side. There's no way I would've known that & instead of politely telling me so she was rude about it. Also when I said have a great day she rolled her eyes. It really makes me not want to come back and to also tell people to not go there.
I come from Fredericksburg,Va for this and it's on point errrr time! Yea 'mon. I need a wheelchair every time I leave here
Curry chicken was good. Had the buffet. Kind of confusing when you walk in b cause there's a sign that says "wait to be seated" and no one came to seat us. I had asked the people in front of us and they said that they didn't know what to do either.
Saw a sign in the back with an arrow and something about menu, buffet, etc. and I had to go to the back and ask.
The place is very dirty. It could be a really great spot but the bathroom, ceilings, walls, etc were so dirty :-(
Customer service absolutely sucked. The lady was rude. Flys were flying around the seafood area. Seafood not stored correctly. Buffet food looked oily.
The Caribbean Buffet is top-notch! Their prices are a bit High when you include a drink with a meal but otherwise the price is reasonable for the buffet. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the mood for Caribbean food, especially stew chicken.
Concern about the condition of the kitchen, the buffet was not temperature acceptable, the plantain was stale. The waitress was good and attentive. I think the owner needs to pay better attention to the cleanliness of the place. The back door to the kitchen was opened at the buffet and i was sick to my stomach looking at the utensils, pots used for cooking. They were old and looks like they need to be thrown away yesterday. I asked the waiter about the stale plantain that looks like they have been there all day and dried out and never refreshed. She said, they were out.
The health department needs to make a quick stop and check the place out.
The staff is friendly, the food is great, the prices are reasonable. A small meal will run around $8.50 but you get alot for your money's worth
Good authentic Jamaican food for this area. But the same amount of food that you get for the lunch special is the same that you get from the regular price menu. I like the jerk chicken they just give out the butt part . I don't want to eat no body butt. 👌🏽
Great food with fast service. Lines sometimes be long depending on the time of arrival, but that is all because of the delicious food.
Went last night to the buffet and was not impressed. This place is hyped up the food looked advertising from the to-go side so we sat down. Wrong move DUNS RIVER IS BETTER without the buffet.
It satisfied my craving for some carribean cuisine, but I definitely have had better. Also had no idea that right next door was a club and you possibly could face that crowd depending on how late you go. Overall, I'll try some other places before I go back here.
lots of choices and the customer service was really good . Food was good but not the best if you are familiar with Caribbean Food.
The food at MP Island Cafe is good. I eat there often, but the customer service needs improvement. I can't understand how one can work in the service industry and have an attitude with customers who support your establishment.
I loved the buffet. There are good Latin choices, gluten free and spiced to perfection. Tried each of the meats, pickled onions and carrots, greens, sweet potatoes and corn bread. Yum
My favorite place in Virginia beach... The Jamaican food there is the best. I stop by every time I'm in Norfolk. Food great.. The people's great...
It's a true taste of the Caribbean! Grocery store right next to the restaurant at the Norfolk location that has so many great items to choose from.
There food is just spectacular, all the right seasoning and spices. I just love there oxtails.😄😄
The food was hot and okay tasting yet they ran two of my credit cards both declined. I then called the bank & was informed that it was the resteraunts itself, I told them they still insisted it was my card I had to withdraw money from the resteraunts ATM & get cash also causing ATM fees. Nobody apologized or even acknowledge the resteraunts credit card machine problem, a simple apology goes a long way 😔
The food at MP Island Cafe is just ok. It's not great, it's not worth recommending, and it's not worth the price. The attached grocery store is useful for sourcing good Caribbean ingredients.
Ive been to this place two times and both visits the food was ok. Definitely other places out there who are much better. And what's with the customer service?? Not a very inviting place (not rude perse). Just felt as they were doing me a favor over happy to see customers.. Well, you'll see if you go, as I am not recommending this place.
Just delicious... Oxtail are delish but ask for "more meat, less fat". The mac&cheese is really good when it's fresh.
Honestly the BEST place to get AUTHENTIC Caribbean food. My favorite or all Hampton Roads..Hands Down
Wouldn’t say it’s authentic. Wouldn’t say it’s bad. Just in the middle. Drink specials are good
I have been going to MP's since 2010 until recently when I stopped. I have never had a problem with any employee that worked there until recently. There is a server that works in the morning at the food display counter where you order you food. She has a short hair wig cap and a nasty attitude. She is condescending and I will never go back until she is gone. I will not pay to be disrespected. I ordered my food, she does not give me a utensil packet which is standard for every order I have ever gotten. I asked for a water when I ordered, but she rang up my food, didn't get the water, meanwhile making me wait for her to ring up the woman behind me before she got my water. I realized I did not get a silverware packet then ask the bitch for a spoon, I said spoon instead of silverware packet, so the bitch starts whining "You asked me for a spoon, I gave you a spoon." I say "I meant a silverware packet." (which the bitch should have given me in the first place) Then, I put it back when she gives me the silverware packet. "She starts wining like a 3 year old that I put the spoon back. Speaking to me like she is my mother saying "Why would you put the spoon back?" Because bitch, I could have thrown it at your disrespectful ass, but I didn't. Don't go in the time before lunch, that is when this bitch works. I will be takin my business elsewhere, and whenever she doesn't work there I will be back. I gave the restaurant 2 stars because up until now they had great employees. I think they are loosing business because the buffet hours have been cut. Avoid this server at all cost!!!
Start to dislike like dem..when dem..ran out of rice and peas..and want to charge 2 dolla..per piece..of oxtail..and no roce..what kind of dutty..style dat..charge per piece..oxtail...better..u don't sell t and save it for the next day...never heard of a business sell oxtail..like kfc..fry..chicken..kmft
Curry goat lacked flavor, Mac n cheese was blah, the jerk chicken was a little dry and the jerk sauce was water. Service was there. Overall forgettable
Overall decent on the restaurant side. Food is decent. Service can be better but overall gets the job done. They do run out of food occasionally which makes a craving very hard to please. The bar side is hit or miss never consistent. Even if the bar is not packed the bartenders are not excited to serve and make money. They act as if your bothering them while they are standing or writing on receipts. The music is hit or miss. Either you'll be jamming all night or ready to go after thirty minutes. One would think that a well established place would be able to improve on the things everyone clearly says about their business but hey. Wednesday night happy hour is still good from what I know. Saturday night reggae is sad cause it used to be really good. Overall Ok on the night life if your looking to chill. If you wanna actually have fun. Try somewhere else. 💁🏾
Its a Monday night and Max the bartender is being a much needed friend. A nastalgic feeling for all west indians that wish to feel, even for a moment.
food taste average , i would go again, employees are some rude mofos.....considering who they are thats expectable.......
Had an issue with my barrel pick up but the owner fixed the issue. I was very impressed with him stepping in and handling the problem that time at night. Thumbs up to the owner🖒
MP Island catered the food for my mother's repass in January. I ordered over $1600 worth of food. The following day I received numerous complaints from family and friends that they were sick from the food at the repass. I had family miss flights and delay their travels back home because they were too ill to drive. I reached out to the manager and he has yet to return my call. It's been over a month. Although they may not feel responsible the manager should at least call me to discuss what happened and come up with a resolution that both parties feel comfortable with. Not to mention we had to throw away any and all remaining food because we did not know what was wrong with the food. Money and time wasted! I selected this location because my mother was Jamaican and liked their food. However, the lack of customer service and quality of food will ensure that I never recommend this place to another person or visit this establishment again.
This Place is GREAT..!!😍😍 Great Service, the servers are very Nice and Respectable.!👍🏽 And let me save the best for last the food was off the radar. I don’t even think I left a drop of juice on the plate..!!🤷♀️😂
Went in with a friend for the lunch buffet, which Ive visited before. I got some peas and rice, cabbage and curry goat. Whilst eating my goat my fork got tangled in some butchers twine. For those of you who may not know, that is the string used to hold meat together when cooking. Requested to see the manager and they kept sending over servers( none of them mine) and even a cashier. Finally the owner came over and she didnt seem apologetic, nor empathetic, simply saying that it happens sometimes. Will never eat here again. Such a shame cause I used to enjoy this place. Ill cook my own string at home from now on
Excellent Customer Service. If you are looking for a one stop Caribbean Store, MP Island Cafe is the place to go. There is a grocery section with products from the islands and a restaurant side. They also sell barrels and ship items like appliances, household goods and automobiles to the Caribbean.
Its alright for quick take away. And if you love curry
DELISH! I'VE BEEN GOING TO MP ISLAND CAFE OFF AND ON FOR OVER 17 YEARS! GREAT FOOD! FRIENDLY EMPLOYEES! AND REASONABLY PRICED! PORTIONS ARE HUGE!!!! YOU DEFINITELY GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH AT THIS RESTAURANT!!!!
I have been going there for years and I never had an issue until yesterday 6/17 around 5pm. My mother asked me to go there to get an Escovitch red snapper meal for my father for dinner. I called prior to heading there to make sure they had fish. I spoke with a woman and she told me that they do have fish and she asked what type. I told her red snapper. She said hold on let me double check. She came back to the phone to tell me they do and she said in “ten minutes”. I said “Ok I’m on my way thank you.” (She never asked for a name at that point and I never thought to give my name either.) I get there spoke with a lady that I always see working there. I told her I called for the fish. She asked for my name. I told I never gave my name but the person that answered was a woman and she told me “10 minutes”. I never had a issue with the miscommunication or anything I was polite the ENTIRE TIME. The lady said ok I’ll be right back. She comes back and said “ the fish wasn’t made because she said you hung up on her but it’s being made now.” I said “ oh ok I told her I was on my way after she said 10 minutes but ok thank you.” Then the lady I spoke with comes out from the back with attitude. “The fish wasn’t made because you never gave a name and you hung up the phone.” I said “ No I told you ok I am on my way after you told me 10 minutes. You never asked for a name anyways.” She said “ No! You hung up and I definitely would never say 10 minutes for fish to be ready!” At that point I was infuriated because you’re causing a scene over nothing in front of my son. You’re talking to me as if I’m a child. So to avoid from getting to a Point where it would’ve made things worse I just kept telling her “ok” after everything she was saying. From over hearing the others I believe her name is “Marci” or “Marcia”. That is my last time going to that establishment. I NEVER had any issues at all so for her to come at me in the manner she did especially in front of my son and other customers was completely uncalled for. I always talk about how great the food is and I definitely didnt mind driving from Virginia Beach to Norfolk to get great food but not after that type of horrible treatment.
Food is delicious I had their curry goat, oxtails, mac and cheese and rice the vegetables don't taste all that great the cornbread is good tho and the buffet is off the chain !!!!!!
Great food and drinks. Went on a Wednesday night not knowing what to expect but my date and I had a nice time. Good comfortable atmosphere. Great service. I was pleasantly surprised and I'll most likely go back again
They were very rude, the wait was long ,I spent $15.00 dollars for a OX TAIL DINNER ,I got 4 little bones and that was a LARGE and when I asked for more for my money it got worse, wanted to CHARGE ME FOR AN EXTRA CONTAINER TO PUT A PIECE OF OX TAIL IN THIS IS MY 5 OR 6 TIME GOING THERE AND EVERY TIME WAS A BAD EXPERIENCE BUT I WOULD GO BACK, THINKING THINGS WOULD BE DIFFERENT. ..AND TO TOP IT OFF I GOT THE FOOD FROM THE LUNCH AND I WAS THERE AT 5:00 SO IT WAS NOT GOOD. ...I WILL NOT GO BACK AGAIN. ........SO ON THAT NOTE GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW PLACE YOU WILL BE OPENING
This place was decent but very unsatisfying and the smell of the building was very disturbing. I could not finish my food. My friends and I have upsetting stomachs and I advise anyone who thinks they want to try this place don’t because it doesn’t have any organization and it’s moad in the roof and above the stove
Awesome Caribbean flavors. Food that tantalizingly pleases your taste buds. Failrly priced so you can feed the entire family. Quantity and quality is superior! Easy locations and even a food truck. Take a vacation or at least feel like it with AUTHENTIC CARIBBEAN STYLE FLAVORS TO SAVOR!
Good food an customer service. Food was hot an delicious atmosphere was just perfect good music playing....this was my second time but I waited a year to return. All in all a very ,very good to eat.
As a frequent traveler to the Hampton Roads area, the MP Island Cafe, bar none, is the best Caribbean Restaurant I've visited. It is nice and spacious with an adjoining store to enhance your visiting experience. Moreover, the customer service is great.
Happy that this place exists but holy mackerel everything is pricey. A can of ackee is an unbelievable 12.99 per can. Daily lunch price is very reasonable I will give them that but I think that they need to do a little better with the prices. Those ladies at the food line at the Virginia bch location need a few lessons in customer service. Very unfriendly and rude. This place needs an improvement.
Good place to try out Jamaican dishes. Have good variety and nice clean atmosphere to enjoy you lunch. Nice for a date or family. The food is good but not as great as off the menu orders. Overall good food.
Absolutely love the food here! Especially because they allow you to get more of one side than the other. That fresh fried fish is so good!
The happy hours is great. That's the place to be for happy hour. $5 drinks top shelve. U need to experience it if u have not.
Off the chains...awesome....def will be back....again and again! First time trying Caribbean was here and probably will be the only spot I eat at. I wish I could make the coconut muffins at home...def get the feeling when you bite into a York peppermint patty
Went to this restaurant on 11/3/18 with my family.. We were so anxious to try this restaurant and we all ready for a good meal... I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and the hot water would not come out of the faucet...I was like OK, I can get past that... Got my "plastic" plate to eat my meal and when I got to the bar I thought I saw something crawling on top of the buffet bar..I looked closer and realized it was a ROACH crawling on the bar... Then I looked closer and saw two more crawling on the bar...I took a pic as I was so disgusted... Thankfully I was able to get my money back.. But this a problem MP Island needs to correct immediately!!
I use to love this place. I sat down for the lunch buffet about s month ago and I saw roaches. The food is so good, the people (some) so friendly....but to see the bugs just roaming and not afraid of people was just amazing to me.
It was my first time there, and I enjoyed the food, everything was delicious! The customer service was AMAZING! I will certainly be going back.
All the Caribbean food you can think of. I personally get their ox tails. They also have a buffet too at lunch if you cant decide what all you want. I like them a lot if you want a place to go they are who I would suggest . They are priced moderately be prepared to spend about about 11 to 20.00 by yourself depending on your taste.
I don't even know where to start...
I freaking love this place...
The curry goat 🐐 is my favorite plate...
But sometimes the oxtail 🐂 be hitting the spot..
The fried sweet plantain tatse so good...
The Jamaican lady serving the food is always nice to us...
The tall black guy taking the money needs to relax a bit...
You can't be uptight surrounded by good smelling food and great music vibe...
Every time I stop by, I bring a friend...
They all love the food too...
I brought my daughter here to get lunch. I should've just cooked at home. It seems that when you order white meat , they bake chicken in the back PLAIN, then add sauce to it in the front. Essentially what you get is baked chicken not authentic jerk chicken. We arrived at about 11:30 am and the rice and beans were already hard and old tasting. Im sure it was leftovers. The mac and cheese tasted like cheeseburger hamburger helper noodles with can cheese. I must include the roach I seen running around by the buffet table in the back.
Best restaurant in Virginia, if you want real food. Reminds me of New York. Best food and staff thank you. The new location is beautiful.
The food is DELICIOUS! The staff and service are so friendly and they also are a grocery so you can get quality ingredients for your own Caribbean food. Definitely recommend and they stay busy usually around lunchtime they are packed. Highly recommend trying the stew chicken, Curry chicken, and jerk chicken. Great size portions definitely a great bang for your buck.
Atmosphere is nice. Good music. Good food. When it's time for the night club scene. It's hard to get drinks. Especially a new face bartenders on tend to the ones they know. Stood at the bar for 30mins. I had to get the host to go to the bar. He was served instantly compared to me standing there with money in hand. They serve who they want to serve
Google will have to update the pictures of the street view of the restaurant because their location has changed. Not to worry though because it's a couple of blocks from the old location, on the same side of the street. Being from NC, I just entered the address on the sign and was glad that the new location is so close. About the food, it was great. I ordered a large ox tail plate with cabbage and mac and cheese. No complaints at all. Good taste, reasonable price and plenty to save for later. On my next visit I would like to try the rice and beans.
MP has new look but for the 3rd time I feel that I have waisted money. The food is edible but not enjoyable. If I did know any better I would think there is a white guy name Chad makes there food who is from Branson Missouri. I had the Ox tail, rice and peas with mac n cheese. I'm sure I won't go back and will not recommend this establishment for the food. I hope someone sees this and make adjustments. The people that eat this stuff are just loyal .
I must've visited for lunch on the wrong day. I enjoy patronizing BOBs but this food was barely edible last weekend. My green beans had a gray hair in it. I took it back and asked for a different serving of sides. The cashier almost rang it up after I explained the issue. The young girl employee insisted she could not exchange the items but scoffed when I asked for a refund instead. The buffet line server insulted me by saying the hair was an ingredient of the green beans. I would not eat here again if it was FREE of charge. The owner was smart to make this venue a multi-purpose establishment. Hopefully the grocery side of the store is more sustaining.
I really enjoyed my enjoyed my lunch at MP Island Café. I'd ordered rice & peas, curry chicken and collared greens. The food was hot with nice flavor and there was dessert available. In addition there is the grocery store attached in the event you want to do shopping for some items. The atmosphere is nice playing Caribbean music and the place was felling up nicely with people coming in ordering food to either sit down or carry out. The staff was friendly. The one thing I would like to see improved is the availability to napkins. I'd asked for extra napkins and I was given a stingy amount of napkins. It makes it hard to not get your hands messy while enjoying curry chicken unless eating with a knife and fork.
I miss there buffet. Our food was tasty and flavorful. We wanted to try the coconut muffins but they never have any ready the last 3 times we visited. The fried chicken was good. I really like the jerk chicken with stew sauce. Their yams, rice and peas, cabbage, mac-n-cheese if its fresh, are satisfying and delicious. The staff is friendly.
GO TO ISLAND HUT in CHESAPEAKE INSTEAD...., First I want to say that I am big on customer service. With that being said I called in my order on 4.11.19 and while the lady on the phone taking my order was very pleasure. I thought that my order was taken properly. However when I returned to my office their were no plantains that are suppose to be complimentary with the lunch special, and I did not get the correct sauce that I asked for. When I called back I am going to guess that I was speaking to the supervisor, when I advised her of my issue. I was asked if I wanted to come and pick up the sauce and the plantains.. REALLY!!!!!! NO, this was THERE error so I have to waste more gas coming back to your restaurant for just some sauce and plantains that should have been included in the bag. Since someone else picked up the order I didn't think that I needed to tell them to check all platters before leaving. " NOTE TO SELF IF I DO, WHICH I WON'T ORDER FROM HERE AGAIN" And instead be going back to what I know best "ISLAND HUT" in Chesapeake to order any Caribbean food. But I will be going back to get my refund. Portion size is to small for the price and the food is not that tasty.
It smelled amazing when I walked in the front door. I was there to pick up a delivery for Door Dash. The ladies working there were all so nice and welcoming. I will be going back there for myself very soon. I feel like their food is gonna be awesome.
Went for the first time on Saturday overall it was fun but one thing is that they recharge you for entry which is weird to me because they stamp your hand but it is what it is. The club has two sides but I would recommend staying in the room with the ac. Still fun but definitely not a weekly weekend thing for me.
My preferred scene for quality Caribbean food. The service here is attentive. The place has a cool feel to it. They have a lot of great reviews for a reason.
Although I don't indulge in eating it as often as I used to, I love Carribean and Soul food. My mother was an awesome cook and taught me the tricks of the trade. So I know how good-tasting ethnic food should be prepared. I ordered large portion oxtails, yellow rice, candied yams, and string beans. The oxtails were flavorful but I don't think I was given enough for it to be considered the large portion. Everything else tasted like it was from a box or a can with a little seasoning added to it. However, the food was hot and the employees were kind.
Ordered this through Door Dash, as I a on travel for business. Original order was supposed to have plantains on side, but they were out. Instead I agreed to Collard Greens, which I have eaten my entire life, and these have got to be the worse one I have ever tasted. Almost as if they were not cleaned, and no seasoning what so ever. My other side was Macaroni and Cheese....can we say Kraft out of a box. As for the Jerk Chicken, it taste more like baked chicken with some kind of bottled Jerk Sauce poured over it. And yes I have been to Jamaica and had true Jerk Chicken from the stands there, and it is nothing short of delicious, but this stuff, not so much. And on top of that I was missing the soda that should have been with it. They have a lot of good reviews, but I just don't see it. I truly hope this was just a bad day, but I just don't see it. And serving products made form a box....really?
Well, when MP was down the street, the buffet was wonderful. You could also order food off of menu. But now the way it's set up, there wasn't a lot of variety. But the food was good that we place was packed, when we, so evidently a lot of people like the place. I would have liked a better variety. Also,it was pricier than when they were down the street.
Horrible service. I am Venezuelan/Arab but I look white. They were very racist towards me and my husband. Made us feel very unwelcomed with their stares and whispering. This place should honestly be closed down. I've been living in the US for 3 years and this is the first time in my life I've encountered hate. Do not recommend to anyone.
I was a bit disappointed knowing they were moving to a new location. However, this new location is amazing and better looking than their previous spot. Will definitely be coming here on a regular basis
This is a place I've been many times. The beer prices are reasonable, and they have a ton of amazing drinks. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait if you're receiving table service. Most of the bartenders are very friendly and try to get to you as quickly as possible. They have authentic food that comes out from the kitchen hot and fresh. They have a ton of events. also if you get there before a certain time of the evening, there's no cover charge. After a certain time, if you want to leave, you will get charged 5.00 to reenter.
Forgot to give my friend part of her food. Couldnt get ahold of them calling to get a refund or something. Food is good, long wait though during lunch.
Their food is very taste, not too overly seasoned. You taste just enuf of the Caribbean flavors and it's not overwhelming. I love the peas & rice with a little oxtail juice over the top and the cabbage is delicious with dark jerk chicken. That's me....
This is the second time I've been there and just the same as the first time it's absolutely amazing!!! We waited in a long line but it was well worth it!! I would wait for an hour for them oxtails!!!
November 8th 2019, my family and I traveled about 25 minutes there in 25 minutes back to get to MP island Cafe because we love oxtail, we're Jamaicans and we love to eat what we like but the food was absolutely TERRIBLE!. The rice was sour smelling and I know that the waitress knew it because she asked someone "get me some new rice". Unfortunate for us we had no idea just how old the rice really was. We used to eat here a lot but since they moved to the new location it just seems like the food has just changed for the worst.
My first time going here. I got the jumbo fried shrimp which were delicious. The mac and cheese and collards were good as well. Great service and I love how they keep your food in the warmer until all your food is done. Will definitely go back!
The customer service was nice. I Ordered oxtails and cabbage.. To start, the oxtails were terribly tough and bland. The cabbage was good though but I threw the whole plate away I’m total disappointment. Thought I’d try a chicken patty.. nope it was mushy.. no thank you.. first and last time.
The rice n peas was ok, it wasnt the best. The fried chicken had flavour but a bit salt. Overall the food was a 7/10. I liked the fact that their grocery section had a wide variety of authentic Jamaican products.
The service here could be so much better. I waited in line 20 minutes just to place an order. I mentioned it to the manager and she was very nonchalant about it. The food here is good but service and attention to detail make me not want to return. Since relocating, they don't have the AYCE buffet anymore. The new location is cleaner, better lighting but reduced parking. I'd strongly suggest calling ahead to place your order with Hope's that it'll be ready upon arrival. They've also added a few lunch specials to their menu.
Food is good. Wait is long however. A plate is around 13 bucks and its prepared buffet style. Place turns into a lounge at night as well. Jerk chicken is amazing.
The location not good, the owner need a bigger space and open parking space for customers safety... We don't need no tragedy to happen then you finding a solution... Do it now, prevention is better than cure. My in put🤷
Actual restaurant and market! Ample seating. Courteous staff. Awesome vibe. So happy to have authentic Caribbean Food in Norfolk!
I ONLY go here for my curry chicken, yellow rice, cabbage, and fried plaintains! Also got to get the Jamaican cream soda and a couple beef patties to go and...read this and 88 more
