How would you rate Monument to Joe Louis?
Loved the Fist.
How stupid! How the hell does this represent Detroit? Joe Louis was a great man but this says nothing about who he was. It just looks like Detroit is mad at everybody. If this was supposed to represent Joe Louis it should have a boxing glove on it and not just a fist. "Come to Detroit, we love violence".
Take any visitors you have to to this monument. I haven't had one person not like taking a silly pic with the fist!
A cool & iconic symbol of one of the top 5 boxers to ever live. A symbol of the strength & power that led Joe Louis to victory over Germany's Max Schmeling in the 193? Olympic Games. Should be relocated to a more convenient location, possibly indoors at the Convention Center for better photo opps.
Monument to one of the greatest heavyweights of all time
Very iconic detroit man made landmark
It was fascinating to see "The Fist" Everyone who visits Detroit must go visit this awesome monument of Joe Lewis!
Nice part of Detroit. Look at the statue then take a walk by the water. Not much else there.
I'm honestly not sure how you can review art. Its art and different for everyone. So, art.
A man that should be remembered for so much more than just fighting.
"Nicknamed the "Brown Bomber", was an American professional boxer. He reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949, and is considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.
69 Total fights
52 Wins by KO
Big and black jus like muh dikk, gnomesayin cuh?
An amazing piece of sculpture! Totally worth seeing.
Right in the middle of the downtown of Detroit. Nice view surrounding
If this is truly about Joe Louis, where's the boxing glove? Why not have a lifesized statue of the man? We all know this is a 'Black Power' fist...disgustingly racist.
Love this monument to Joe Louis and had fun reading the history behind it. Especially his fight against the German fighter Max Schmeling in 1938 during the height of Nazi Germany. If you're in Detroit stop by and take a picture! Definitely very unique!
America is a Beautiful place. Get out on the road and check it out!
It's beautiful! I truly miss the joe! Lil Ceasar's Arena has yet to grow on me but its cool and no doubt Joe Louis is an American and detroit ICON! (:
Pictures don't really do it justice. The thing is massive.
Biggest fist I have ever seen.
Nice clean place. Nearby commute available.
Seeing this massive statue of the late Joe Louis' arm and fist is truly inspiring. Symbolizing the American spirit of strength in the light of adversity, we really could use of this unifying spirit in the current political climate. I don't understand how one reviewer can leave such a nasty racist comment about this iconic symbol in the heart of Detroit, but Joe Louis is more than an inspirational figure for African-American. He is an inspirational figure for ALL Americans.
Wonderful monument, outstanding icon for a great city!
Great place to see awesome sites. Great area to walk around! This area has different monuments other than the Joe Louis fist.
This is a very fascinating piece of artwork and great monument to research.
Legendary!; seeing it in person is absolutely incredible.
Joe Louis is still knocking them down! Great attraction and photo stop!
Beautiful memorial. Great quotes to strengthen the soul.
Amazing piece of Detroit artwork. Fun area to walk around.
Nice sculpture around the Detroit down town; located in the middle of the street and surrounded by beautiful buildings around.
It was a cold day but we enjoyed the peace and quiet walking the area around the Joe Louis Fist.
Great tribute. Loved seeing it up close.
Me and my robotics team went to the monument of Joe Louis for a picture and ended staying there longer than we expected just too admire the monument.
Needs some maintenance otherwise very nice.
Cool landmark to see. Blocked off from the street so you can street.
This was a beautiful monument and the park was nice and clean.
Well its the Monument, and its pretty damn good and in a good location.
If you're from here we all are proud of several landmarkd it statues. One is the heart plaza, another is the spirit of Detroit and this one. Also had a good memory of heading to the arena for a hockey game and new years concert with our man Ted.
A must see if you are in the area, even if you cant stop and get a picture you are able to drive right by it and just see how big it is.
My kids loved this fist! One of our favorite stops every time we visit. We try to get creative with posing. Dodging traffic is the only risk you’ll take to visit Joe’s solid knockout!
Beautiful statue, I first saw it from the road I took to get to my hotel. I knew that while I was in Detroit I would have to see this statue up close. The gold accents, green copper, and the white building behind, created a stunning effect that could leave sensitive tourists out of breath or shred a tear of joy.
As a fan of the videogame Detroit: Become Human (yes, I visited the monument purely because of the game, I am obsessed), it was amazing to see the monument in real life! It's located at a nice spot inbetween two roads, so you can go up next to it or walk back further and not have to worry about any cars.
The world famous boxer Joe Louis. One of a kind !
It was a fun 2 day trip to go see detroit from Toronto area. We were able to see all the attractions and stuff in just a day. Now compare to other cities in US, Detroit is a little old and run down but they have nice places to visit like belle isle island, Art galleries and nice eateries. But this place was under construction when we went if you go on the other side of the monument to Joe Louis then you can click pictures however no date on construction to be finished.
I love the fist! Perfect representation of the city.
I love love loved it! His big fist made me look small. Who wouldn't love that!!!
It's a great piece of realistic art close to the waterfront in the heart of downtown Detroit. Nice piece, though I wish we could see it in action.
Take a walk in the newly reconstructed Jefferson/Woodward area. You'll be pleased to see and enjoy the fun features framing the Spirit of Detroit.
I always revisit this Robert Graham sculpture every time I'm in Detroit. It's a fitting symbol of the city and its historical legacy. It's timely, too,...read this and 8 more
