How would you rate Prairie View A&M University?
Currently doing my MS in computer science. Great faculty in the department who are very helpful. University is located on the outskirts and away from city giving students plenty of time to concentrate on their studies than all the other unwanted activities. 1,600 acres and is located in a beautiful location. Living expense is moderately low. I work in Physics department as a Tutor and I see NASA researchers coming in and working there which inspires me to learn more about the outer space. Faculty there are definitely great helping students with all their queries. I'm glad that I'm here which helped me learn a lot about people and culture. Come visit guys. See it for yourself.
The worst school EVER!!!!! people are in danger the campus police don't do nothing. The graduation rate is 36%. The students are party animals the president is ineffective. please go somewhere else
Senior in Mechanical Engineering, the College of Engineering is awesome. Recruiters always on campus. Many internship and job offers. No regrets.
I Love Pv I am currently about to graduate from this lovely school
I love PV. I am currently enrolled in the nursing program. Although it is demanding everyone is ready to help you in the CON (college of nursing) even the students. Its like every program, you have to be on top of your game. Ask anywhere PVCON graduates are highly respected.
Great school. Doing nursing.
Graduating in 4 years from Prairie View A&M University. One of the best decisions I ever made. Attended from 2010-2014. Graduated with a degree in Accounting. Currently work for Deloitte and Touche Public Accounting Firm(#1 in the World). Prairie does produce productive people!!!
A Historically Black College & University dedicated to the excellence of people from all backgrounds. A beautiful campus. PVAMU faculty and staff are dedicated to teaching you skills for the future.
My son was accepted to other colleges. Prairie View was the only college that sent a complete welcome packet with all expected documents with the acceptance letter. A representative from PVAM sent an email and reached out to us to confirm.
im 11 and i hoping to go to this college or unviversity see u in 2034
Wonderful university! Proud to be a part of it!
I attended Prairie View for 3 1/2 years including summer school. I Initially attended a community college, took some basics then transferred into Prairie View. I majored in Electrical Engineering and enjoyed very much how I was able to interact with my professors and counselors when ever questions/guidance was needed. Professors really cared about the individuals knowledge being gained.
I love my alma mater but the financial aid system is the worst! The only negative is dealing with financial aid and if I knew then what I know now, I would have went somewhere else.
I love it. The support from classes actually taught by PHD's not Graduate Students. You get what you pay for. An education.
Graduated Summer 2014. Four years I will never forget; best decision I've ever made.
This has been the worst experience for both my son and I and he has not even started school yet. We have been trying to contact financial aid for 2 weeks. He's been trying to register for classes for a month. He was admitted and received all his information back in late May. We left messages, he's even been to the school and still no resolve to our problem. And no one else seems to have an answer. I want to promote HBCU's, but I get the same response from everyone who has attended one. He transferred from a predominantly white school up North and we had absolutely no problems getting him admitted and registered. He wanted to move back closer to home, he clearly should have stayed up North.
I am an alum. PV was a family to me. I had great professors who would make time for you.
I love the professors, love my education, but the administration is the absolute worst. Ex:
I waited at the cashier desk for 2 minutes and no one came, so I rang the bell ding ding ding. Another minute later she comes out "I don't know which of you rang the bell but I can hear it. You don't have to ring twice" well maybe if we had service at one of the 4 windows, we wouldn't ring.
I called once a week every week in the month of July to the finacial aid department. Left my name, number, id, and email. Did they call back 1 time? No.
The attitude and service is horrible, i work customer service at my job, it can be stressful, but you get paid for this. Shut up and do your job.
Prairie View is my Alma mater. I loved my four years on the yard. After 27 years since I graduated I still miss being there. I go back every year for homecoming.
Me personally I love my HBCU!!!! Pv!!! You know!!!!!
I love the professors and the administration. I feel like home every moment I am on campus . I am doing my graduate degree in prairie view texas a & m and am loving it.I have never experienced such a feeling doing my undergrad. I wish all the best my university and we will make pvu great together!
For an HBCU, it's not that bad. A few people think this schools is "ghetto", but it's actually surrounded by cornfields.
It's beautiful. We got to visit on a rainy Saturday everything was closed luckily an employee was there on his day off catching up on work. He showed us one of the dorm they have as an example. We loved the cleanliness of the University inside out.
Great food and good service with a smile. Staff was very accommodating of my nephew and I
Campus is huge, clean and the cafeteria has several food options. Dorms are safe with only two people and the room is divided by the restroom after freshman year they offer dorms that are like apartments. H.B.C.U. that is also under the A&M umbrella just like Texas A&M. This University also imparts pride and ancestral knowledge. Proud PVU Mom!
English lost a few students this year already who transferred to PV to continue their education from other universities, such as Sam Houston. Needless to say the hot-headedness and lethargy (whichever it maybe) administration caused them to leave before they even began. I also wish they would adopt the plus minus grade scale. Students with 87's do not deserve the same grade as a student with an 80. Other than that, I love the school, what we're achieving and the direction we are headed. English is the best gateway to law school!
I am proud to be an Alumni, Former Marching Storm Member, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Panther Newspaper Editor and now The 2016 Miss Black and Natural of Houston. PV produces productive people!
Prairie View raised me with the technical and social skills to be the successful mechanical engineer and manager that I am today.
My sister attends PVAMU and she is very happy there. I have visited her several times and see a new part of the campus each time I go. The campus is nice, but there is not much around the University that is walking distance, besides a Subway. Luckily, Houston is only 45 mins away.
100+years of making students of all races and nationalities productive people!
Unorganized! Staff members are not going to do their job correctly. You have to constantly call and keep check on information they will not provide to you. Honestly the worst customer service!
love this school so much . Cant wait to be there in 5 years
Great school. Am currently an international student of this university and I am very much impressed with how things are being done here. You should definitely visit and see for yourself. Cheers
DELEON JARMON CHILD WAS MURDERED BECAUSE IT WOULD BEEN HEIR TO THE BYRD ESTATE AND DELEON JARMON INHERITANCE FROM THE BYRD ESTATE AND SISTER SHARON ELLERBE AND HER ATTORNEY CAN NOT FIND MRS ALTA BYRD LIVING WILL TO ATTORNEY MS ALYSA WITH LAWYER BILL THOMPSON A PROBATE ATTORNEY. DELEON JARMON BEEN HOSPITALIZED SEVERAL TIMES BEHIND ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON HE TOLD BILL THOMPSON A LAWYER.
Is a school where everybody is somebody regardless of your colour or ascent. Supportive professors and professional administrative staff.
I love PV, I have no regrets choosing this school over UH. I'm a transfer student Fall 2016 in Engineering. Almost all the students are nice, and you'll have many opportunities to make friends. Library is great. The professors are very knowledgeable and support their students in one way or another.
Cons I would say is sometimes if you need something done (especially financial aid), you'll have to make multiple trips back and forth because your information has been messed up. Either that or you'll get transferred to other people, only to get where you started. The food is so-so, you have to find the right time to come in to atlas get a decent meal. Parking is a nightmare if your first class after 1030, so get up early and find yourself a parking spot.
Overall, PVAMU has a great student body. The campus is beautiful, but some offices should get try and prevent student having to make 100 trips back to their office.
Prairie View A&M University molded me into the young woman I am today. I appreciate this institution of higher education for providing me the resources to graduate and creating opportunities for myself. Beautiful campus and people are around this lovely HBCU.
A awesome place to learn...but tainted with a bunch of sorry individuals work here such as those in the finance department and parking administration. For finance: takes too long to process paperwork which is done inefficiently too.
For parking and the committee that decides on the citations, was issued a ticket that was wrongfully overcharged, despite arguing their own rules and their lack of transparency. Moreover, they have yet to resolve their parking issues - too many cars with not enough place to put it.
Lastly, as a recently graduated mechanical engineer, our college buildings get far less attention then they should considering we are one of, if not THE largest out of other colleges on campus. Moreover, department heads are anything but helpful -espicially that of Mechanical Engineering. I have committed alot of time trying to make a difference such as helping out for the department or organizations- but besides the lack of support from students, the negligence from the professors truly sets the tone that perhaps this place doesn't deserve anything but to be utilized for what it is there for and move on without "giving back". It's better to not look back on a biased culture that cares more for status quo than progress and enrichment as the founders intended long ago.
With that in mind, if you must go here, give anyone hell that doesn't treat you right. If you are gonna be an engineer, think twice about mechanical.
I love my Alma Mater. The campus is Beautiful, great education, and my experience of college life was awesome. Family of tradition.
They think everyone is a first generation college student. They act like you don't have a choice. Housing, financial aid and bursur's need to communicate. They never handle your paperwork in a timely manner. The school always seems to be charging you for something, they can't or won't explain. When you complain you get threatened with pay now or don't get your class or pay now or you won't get the dorm you want. If visit ask to see the security cameras work . lol. They never seem to work when something is broken or stolen. No legacy here.
Staff is so rude. Student Staff is not knowledgeable with what goes on with what goes where. Adult staff Very rude to students . my child is just trying to graduate and has had questions of fees for things that could be explained. When ask for help smart remarks given and other students working with limited info. Mandatory meal plan with same food. Very nice campus and great band. They just need to be more patient with students who have questions about accounts.
Very very very ghetto and unprofessional. A few of my acquaintances have told me that most professional employers do not hire anyone with a degree from PVAMU. The student body is very “hood” and they contribute a massive infestation of it to the campus. Google all the negative reviews about the campus, you’ll see for yourself!
Absolutely AMAZING great staff and great students me and my sister both loved an had an amazing college experience!!
I attended a summer program here as a high school student and got exposure to the health care field early. This institution has a lot of opportunities to offer the students as long as you take advantage of it. Honestly PVAMU makes you feel like family.
This school never answers the phone if you want something done you have to go up there sit in their face and baby sit them & watch them do it to get the job done! Housing will try to scam you when moving out fees such as paint and shampooing carpet which they should do every time before moving in new people . Very unorganized!
I like the school. I am familiar with "ivy league" hbcus such as Spelman, Morehouse and Howard. Prairie View has a few things to work on to get to their level. One, the commuter lot by the student center is dirty. I know Texas isn't as green as other states, but PV should enforce cleanliness. Like the ivy leagues, the professors have a Ph.D in their respective fields. Two, the majority of the student body is on the ghetto side. There is a need to attract more types of people.
Overall, I like the school. PV has the potential to be a research university. Of course the engineering program is the best in Texas. There's still so much to do.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! Just enroll. DON’T THINT ABOUT IT JUST DO IT!!!! I’m telling you that you are missing out if you don’t go to school here.
Prairie view is a wonderful college for all ,I have seen.
best school going in i graduate high school hopefully
