How would you rate Hank's Ice Cream?
Super local super family owned ice cream parlor. I had the cookies and creme ice cream and it was really good with whole oreos in it, it was perfect. The banana pudding also looked very good. Highly recommend.
Excellent staff, flavor of ice cream is beyond flavorful an delicious! Best in the city, it may very well be best in the country!
Delish.....I had the Mango and strawberry cheesecake. They were delicious. Creamy, full of flavor & texture. Tried a sample of the Rum. You can taste the Rum in the ice cream. I will go back real soon...
My first experience ever was most memorable. Got to meet Mrs Hank and enjoy their famous Texas Oreo cookies and cream , she opened up just so we could have some! Sweetest Queen of The Creameries!!
Everytime to Houston, we make a pilgrimage to this wonderfully tasty oasis of dairy delights. The family friendly place provides a happy atmosphere to enjoy the best ice cream in Houston. Come and taste.
Hands down best ice cream in town! Seems like every time I go there there are new creative and delicious flavors. Rum raisin or egg nog are the two best. Added bonus is that it is cheaper than the chain ice cream places. They only accept cash so hit the ATM first.
Best ice cream .PERIOD. And since Blue Bell is down, it's practically the only place you can get excellent icecream. great selection of flavors. just go, already.
I have been coming here for at least 8 years and consistently I have had great ice cream and great service. Butter pecan is a butter pecan like no other and it's worth every cent. Hank's is known for its variety of flavors. ICE CREAM PERFECTION!!!
The ice cream here actually tastes like the stuff the flavor is named after. It's delicious, thick and creamy. LOVE IT!
Very good ice cream, perhaps the best in the city. The nut grape flavor was innovative and delicious. Flavor wise it tops by far Cloud Nine and most of the other modern parlors. Nonetheless, the flavor selection is somewhat restrictive and the cash or check only policy is certainly an inconvenience. I generally leave whenever I encounter a place that does not accept the only form of payment I am wiling to utilize, but I payed cash at Hank's because I understood their old school, eighties, mantra, and I respect that the payment restrictions are part of this environment. In the aggregate it was a pleasant visit to a renowned ice cream parlor that lived up to its name and fame.
utterly delicious, super awesome service. the banana pudding flavor is as good as everyone says. the chocolate-orange was fantastic. every other flavor is superb. with local talent like this, why would you eat any other ice cream?
I don't understand the great reviews. My vanilla and my boyfriend's strawberry cheesecake were unremarkable. On top of the flavors tasting like a million other bottom-to-mid-tier ice cream brands, our ice cream had frosty pieces: the ice cream hadn't been stored properly, it was old, or both. We wasted $8 - neither one of us finished our small cups. Also, don't show up later in the day because they were out of half their flavors.
It's not bad ice cream but it's nothing special at all. It's completely average ice cream, but given the ridiculous praise this place gets on review sites I suspect some kind of review padding to be going on.
The people are very nice but the ice cream is just regular ice cream.
I've been coming here for years. I've yet to find better ice cream anywhere in the the . I'm a sucker for their Vegan Coconut Chunk and any of their sorbets. Flavors constantly change, but as adventurous as they can be from conventional they always succeed at being great.
I'm a HUGE ice cream fan and I have to say that Hank's Ice Cream do their flavors justice!
Located in a plaza, Hank's Ice Cream is a simple ice cream shop with the walls adorned with years of accolades received for their quality products.
I, of course, try a few flavors before ordering but I already knew what I wanted before arriving...because that's what Local Guides (and foodies) do. I enjoyed the pumpkin verrrry much but I ended up ordering a large scoop of their famous BANANA PUDDING and BUTTER PECAN flavors with a sugar cone.
YUMMY! I would come back here again and again but remember before arriving, it's CASH ONLY!
Good old-fashioned ice cream. This is some of the best ice cream in Houston and you can tell it's been some of the best ice cream in Houston for quite some time from the dozens of awards and newspaper clippings from the 00's they have hanging on the walls. I'd recommend the Texas Oreo flavor, they use whole Oreos and they use a lot of them.
Hank's has fantastic flavors of perfect homemade ice cream, and it's a sweet place to date a date or your family. Bring cash & expect a ten minute wait on weekends - stick around, it's worth it!
Really tasty ice cream. They have a variety of flavors they switch out. I have tried the coffee, chocolate, Oreo, and vanilla and they were all great. Staff was really nice too. Only thing is make sure you bring cash because they do not accept credit cards.
Tha best icecream in houston when
This is the best ice cream I've ever tasted and had the pleasure of eating I would highly recommend it to anybody that is in the area or that is fan of just all-around great ice cream
Best ice cream in Houston. Butter Pecan is divine! The limited open hours are a bummer.
Friendly service and great ice cream. We also love the shakes and malts
Amazing local, fresh ice cream with a rotating menu. Be sure to bring cash. Favorites are the banana pudding and PB&J.
Amazing homemade ice cream!!! Butter Pecan is out of this world!!
Ice cream is off the chain! All flavors are exceptional. Owner is great and help out customers. Only downside is no credit/ debit card but will be back!!
Sign up for their rewards program and get some great deals. Don't and you won't ;)
This place is amazing. I worked on a project nearby for 15 months or so, and we made several trips there. Every flavor I've had so far has been awesome. Will gladly make the longer trip to get high-quality ice cream now (especially coming from the Galleria).
Hank's is one of my favorite Houston establishments! Give me a scoop of strawberry cheesecake ice cream and a scoop of Texas Oreo and my day will be made. It's definitely a spot to hit up and support wether you're a visitor or Houston native.
Pretty good ice cream and friendly people. Would recommend trying the banana or cookies and cream.
Amazing, home made ice cream. Make sure to try the banana bread pudding ice cream.
Great ice cream and cute place. Note: They don't accept credit cards.
I love coming here. Small mom and pop ice cream store. I like to support local stores! Not to mention, great ice cream! The Texas Oreo, Rose, and Banana Bread all taste delicious!
there is a worker there who reminds me of Kid Cudi. He's so handsome!
Wonderful place, always tasty homemade ice cream and very friendly staff. We come here every time we're in Houston. The malts are excellent as are the other 16 homemade flavors. We love the banana pudding, lemon, strawberry, butter pecan flavors and more. Very rich stuff. Said to have 14% butterfat! That's why it tastes so good and rich.
We had cheesecake, Caribbean, and the great ape. The great ape was AWESOME - has salted caramel. I would eat this ice everyday if I could! Employees were very friendly and kind!
BEST banana pudding ice cream in a waffle cone!! THIS IS A MUST when in houston! Friendly staff. Better than the chain store variety.
Customer Service was good and the Ice Cream shop is a small local family business with good ice cream and shakes i am glad i was able to support. It is cash only though.
Try it for the first time yesterday best ice cream ever. Would recommend this place to anyone. Only thing I didn't like is the place is cash only. But still deserve 5 star for good ice cream 🍦.
I like the fact that it's a small business which I love supporting! But it just wasn't "all that" to me. The bourbon vanilla is okay tho. I'd just rather buy a pint of ice cream at the store instead. They only take cash or check :/
Ice cream is great. But, the prices are high. You can get more ice cream for less at other shops.
As you can see from my reviews, I like visiting dessert places. I like clean, maintained, dessert places. This is another one of those places, like Amy's, which seems to never have been improved up on. Both Amys's & Hank's are making tons of money but not putting it back in their shops. The patrons should look at it from an adult perspective. My 2 cents.
I understand no credit cards. But why the styrofoam cups. Spend some money folks. Paper cups are biodegradable.
Great food, but be honest, typical soul food ie salty. slow service. extra points for friendliness though.
It was 3 minutes to 8 and I was in the shop with my family. There was one more table occupied. The owner lady walks up to the door and locks it from inside. Someone tried coming in and pointed to his watch that it wasn't 8 pm yet. The owner lady looked away, ignoring him. Too much wealth effect??? Also, it is illegal to keep the door locked when there are customers inside the shop (Ask the fire marshall)! I am not going back. The ice cream was sub-par, anyway.
Really cool concept especially with the light bulb jar and cotton candy on top. Taste of the drink in my mind wasn't the best or even that good. I think just the overall concept was what made it really cool. I believe I got the almond thai tea or something like that.
Normally I'm a huge fan of Hanks and recommend it to everyone. However, I'm very disappointed with their customer service tonight. Arrived to Hanks at 7:15 (45 minutes before posted closing time) and the front doors were locked. The staff was still there helping their last customers, saw us at the door and did not even acknowledge us. We are regulars and go at least once a week. Very upset and hope that management will fix this problem. Going to Tiffs Treats down the street instead which we will start doing more often if Hanks does not step it up.
My new favorite ice cream parlor of life. I sampled so many flavors and had a hard time deciding what to choose because everything was so good. I ended up going with a single split with honey lavender and mango sticky rice (I know... so exotic) in an ube cone. The ube cone is a must for the picture but I think I'll do without it next time. I think between the two flavors I picked, the mango sticky rice is my favorite. Totally my flavor. Can't wait to come back...tomorrow LOL
Was told that this was the best ice cream in town. We took the family right then but we're sorely disappointed. The ice cream was pretty plain and it's a cash only business as well. There are a lot of competitors in the market that I'd rather visit.
At Hank's, one finds a delicious array of ice creams, fresh and made in-house. The employees there are so friendly, too.
I had the banana pudding ice cream and OMG is was so good. I absolutely love it and it tasted exactly like the real deal!! I also had the pecan praline, which was good as well. Would most definitely recommend this place.
This ice cream is crazy good! The ice cream is creamy without feeling heavy, and the flavor is classic, not artificial, balanced and nearly perfect. This and Fat Katz Creamery are the best ice cream spots in Houston!
Hank's ice cream is a great place for homemade ice cream. Friendly employees and a good place to have a treat. The flavors vary depending on the day of the week.
Great service great Ice cream! No cards bring cash(: Had to run back to my car dig up changes since i dont carry cash regularly. Don't be like me ya'll!
Love this place. Proud to be from Houston kind of place. My favorite is the butter pecan.
Weird timings. They open & close when they feel like it. No clarity or thought for the customer.
Delicious Ice cream. Thick rich and creamy. Good service. Was kind of a bummer we weren’t able to pay with a debit card. Cash or checks only.
Ice cream was great but it’s 2018 why are the not accepting debit or credit cards?! I will never go back to hanks due to this very reason! I passed up thousands of ice cream shops that take debit cards! I love supporting small businesses but it’s really sad that they don’t keep up with the times. The old soul food restaurant next door takes cards! Btw the Cash App is free! 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Best homemade ice cream in Houston. Mango and the rest of the Caribbean flavor OH YES. Support local.
I have been supporting Hank's since Mr. Hank could make my scoop himself! The family has continued to satistfy my craving for thick, rich and flavorful ice cream for YEARS. My top three flavors are Butter Pecan, Texas Oreo and Chocolate. I even have a habit of mixing two of these together sometimes when I can't pick just one. They have cones and cups along with other menu items such as milkshakes and sundaes. Aside from the staples, they are always coming up with and showcasing new flavors. They even let you try them out. They have a small seating area for those who would like to stay and enjoy their scoop (or two). Just remember to BRING CASH! (They also accept checks if that's your thing.)
Oh my my.. Now I know how real ice-cream tastes like you can taste the creamy richness and real flavors.
I got Texas oreo and cherry cheesecake(I believe that's what it was) in a cup you can get it in waffle cone also.
Really good ice cream ... especially banana pudding because it has NILLA WAFERS in it!!!
Then there's the BUTTER PECAN! Y'ALL?!?! It's gooood!!!
Ok love this place for a few reasons. One is the ice cream is home-made and delicious. I got the butter pecan and the banana pudding flavors and it was really tasty. I also like how it’s a small family run business which seems more rare these days. Now it’s just cookie cutter franchises everywhere that lack in quality. And lastly, I left my wallet here on a Sunday, and they were closed Monday and I was leaving out of the country on Tuesday. I contacted the owner and she actually came in on Monday when they were closed to give me my wallet. I was so impressed with that generosity and kindness. And she did it with a smile on her face rather than annoyance at my huge inconvenience I put her through. Really top-notch place! Will come back many times.
I just ate some of Hank's delicious lemon custard and butter pecan ice cream. Lemon custard is my favorite. My wife had the Texas Oreo cookies and vanilla.
I can't get there often, but I can't stop going there either. Great product, great people, extraordinary service. It doesn't take long to get to the bottom of the cup.
the staff was friendly and sociable. prices are reasonable i would say. i can see why they have a lot of positive reviews.
Best ice cream! Great flavors, friendly service. Expect a small seating area and about 12 - 15 flavors. Good portions, usually two a scoops is more than enough since the ice cream is really rich. YUM!!
This is the best ice cream shop in Houston. There are alot of unique flavors to choose from and once you try it store bought ice cream want interest you anymore.
My favorite is the banana pudding.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hank on several occasions, he was a great person.
YUMMY, It's been years since I visited Hanks. The quality and taste are still excellent. When your knees buckle, you know that is the one. Customer service; thought my mother was serving me.
Good ice cream but only accepts cash (is been 11 months) and flavor variety changes. Don't get "hooked" on specialty flavors; they may not be available next visit!
excellent spot to spend time alone or talk business. looking forward to a return visit. the place has a nice feel to it. food is like a restaurant in jacksonville i liked.
The prices are fair for the quality of food. Feeling here is like a restaurant in Fort Worth I liked.
The service here is outstanding. The bill was reasonable I would say.
Tastes just like it did when I was a little girl...delicious ❤. The service was amazing! The variety of ice cream was plentiful. I had the sweet cream and my daughter had the vanilla ice cream and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a small and quaint, yet welcoming black owned business.
This little family owned ice cream shoppe is amazing! There were three generations working there today, and they were so nice! The owner had stories of Mary Lou Retton and Beyoncé among others. They were all so personable, full of family values, customer service, and unique and tasty flavors, including rose petal, which actually tastes like a rose. All flavors are handmade and were delicious.
The ice cream here is nice and rich. The flavors are vibrant and they use good quality flavorings. Black sesame & mint chip flavors are good. Like other ice cream shops, metal spoons are provided for tasting different flavors. Then you're given a compo stable plastic spoon for eating. Mr. and Mrs., I'd prefer to keep my metal spoon for eating and then returning the metal spoon. The inside seating is weird. The large table is too big and the benches are difficult to get in and out of. It's near Neighbor bake house (bakery).
Great ice cream! Mine was buttery and sweet and you can't miss that splendid homemade taste!
Best Ice cream I’ve had in awhile. The ladies were nice and told me “oh you’ll be back”. I think I will!
OMG I have been wanting to try this place forever and I was not disappointed! I got the banana pudding and my mom got the cheesecake and both were so good...read this and 305 more
