Gladys Knight’s & Ron Winan’s Chicken & Waffles continues the Chicken and Waffles tradition. Gladys Knight, together with her son Shanga Hankerson, developed Gladys Knight's Chicken & Waffles Concepts featuring Gladys Knight's Signature Chicken & Waffles and Gladys Knight's & Ron Winans' Chicken & Waffles. Shanga's additional connection to the restaurant industry started very early when his father introduced him to working in a butcher shop in Detroit, Michigan. For a period of time, the family also had a restaurant and learned the pitfalls of owning a restaurant. The hard work in the butcher shop and the first experience of owning a restaurant did not deter Shanga. He continued to display a strong desire and passion to stay connected with restaurants. Shanga had a dream of starting his own restaurant some day -A restaurant that would serve the food that he had grown up with, while also adding to the legacy of his mother. Gladys Knight's Chicken & Waffles Concepts has proven to be a dream come true!

How would you rate Gladys Knight and Ron Winan's Chicken and Waffles?
I ate here for the first time in years. My aunt and her family were in town and wanted to try it out. I had the baked chicken.. (I know....should have had the chicken and waffles. As sides, I had the corn (which was fresh) and the fried okra (which wasnt). My Aunt had the chicken and waffles and she said it was just ok. My cousin had one of the omelets and he really enjoyed it.
Overall I would say it was just average.
The Mid Knight chicken and waffles was awesome, I also ordered the sweet potato cheese cake pie it wasn't good, it had bits of potato that was not blended with the cheese cake and it had strings through out, they should have use a electric mixer to pull all of the stings out of the sweet potato pie mix and it would also make the mix like custard, but other then that the place is awesome and the waitress was a sweet heart, I will be back when I'm in the area.
I was visiting Atlanta from Texas on 7/28, I took my family to your Peachtree location and they all enjoyed the food, and we had a great time and didn't even mind the 45 minute wait. My bill was almost $100 and I paid with my credit card. When I got home and checked my card I saw that on that same day my card was used on-line for a charge of $154.00. Someone copied the information from my card and used it to pay a car payment on-line. Your place was the only place I used that card. My credit card company has removed the charge from my account but I wanted you to know how much this has taken away from our experience in your restaurant. Please do better screening of you employees.
The food is definitely good. Let's get that out the way. You will NOT be upset with the food. The problem is the wait. That is my only issue and reason why i gave this place a 3. If you want to go on the weekend, get there early or just clear your schedule for the wait that you're about to experience. I usually go randomly during the week and not the weekends.
Delicious! We waited almost two hours, however it was well worth the delay. Collard spring rolls, fried chicken, turkey barbeque, corn bread, uptown drink(sweet tea & lemonade mix) all highly recommended!
This location has gone down hill. It used to be a huge deal to eat at Glady's Knight's restaurant. Now it seems just like an every day eatery. The service is okay and the food is okay...nothing to right home about. If you don't mind waiting in the long line go for it, but it is just okay.
Although I came her late after leaving wet willies :) I will say that the food was so delicious and we had very fast service. The next time I visit I will come earlier in day to enjoy my food and I will get the Midnight Train!!! I got the saute'd shrimp and grits and a waffle. I was expecting the shrimp and grits to be like grits with shrimp on top with the bacon and scallions like its usually done . But, I will say I was very please with how well seasoned the shrimp was and the waffles are delicious. Get the Lemonade!!! Only downside is the $10 parking!
Listen, in no disrespect to Gladys Knight I will be objective and honest in my critique. This restaurant is by far, the most overrated establishment I have been to. From the parking (which you have to pay for), to the line outside the restaurant it was a horrible experience. The service is ok and so was the ambiance, but the food, the food was mediocre at best. Fried chicken and some damn waffles was my reward for the hassle of giving this restaurant the privilege of my business. Smh, it wasn’t even like the food was good. The corn is horrible. It lacked seasoning and identity. The chicken was honestly, rather bland equally lacking in the latter. For as many wonderful southern restaurants in the southern United States, my experience at this location was just plain bad. I would never advise this dining experience to my friends and family. I don’t think music artists have the focus to critique the menus to ensure they are producing the best product for their customers as restaurateurs.
Finally, who the hell would want to eat some fried chicken and couple it with waffles? It’s more of a gimmick that true nutritional value and in my opinion a combination of food the world can do without. Once you leave this restaurant minus some $20 a plate, plus parking, and you entire family standing outside like the line at a BestBuy on a black Friday, ask yourself was this food any good? I recommend a small mom and pop, or even Folks Country Kitchen in Conyers. There the menu is more creative, and will cater to various needs. Much better that filling your body with fried chicken, waffles, and syrup, a most nutritionally irresponsible combination of “food”. Sorry Gladys, I love your music, and I’m sure you’re a great person. Wish you the best on your endeavors.
Great atmosphere and the wait staff is awesome. The Chicken and Waffles really blends well together. I always get the Uptown drink which is half lemonade and sweet tea. If you really want some Sunday dinner get the Mac&cheese with yams!!!
Some of the best southern food here in Atlanta! The smothered chicken with a side of mac and cheese, yams and house potatos is the Best!! I also like the veggie omelet with a waffle of the day. You must get the uptown drink and don't forget a slice of sweet potato cheesecake. Yum!!This place is always packed to me. The services is not the best sometimes.
The food tasted just fine. The chicken could have been fried alittle longer. The restaurant was very busy and service did come slowly.
This way by far the WORST restaurant I have ever been to.
From the time we entered the door the problems began. We walked up the the hostess counter and before we even finish a sentence we were given an attitude from the staff. We were told it would be a 25-30 minutes wait for a party of 6, which was perfectly acceptable. We asked how would we be notified that our table was ready. The hostess then replied with an attitude that we would have to call them every 15 minutes to check if the table was ready. Last I checked it was guests like me who funded your business, why do I have to call you for my table??
Anyway, we walk away and found a corner to stand in and the hosted starts yelling that we were all required to stand outside and wait.... it's the middle of winter and it's freezing outside.
so we go back to car to wait out our time. 20 minutes later we call the number to check for our table and guess what?! It's just the regular restaurant phone that the hostesses don't answer!
so we go back inside to ask about our table. The hostess ignores our question and asks if all 6 people are present, we replied no and she said come back when everyone is here.
so we return to the car AGAIN to wait.
Another 30 minutes later finally the majority of our party arrives, so we again go inside, the hostess tells us our table will be ready in 20 minutes. They again try to shoo us outside this time we refuse. 20 minutes pass and we're finally given our table, and our final guest is out parking the car. (There's a sign that says there is free parking but that's a lie we had to pay $10 to park)
Our waitress asks where was our final guest and we say he's parking the car. She replies I can't serve you guys until he gets here and says she'll be right back.
Now everyone is thoroughly upset but trying to salvage the night. We're reading the menu and we stumble across a small disclaimer that parties of 5 or more can't have the bill spilt and will only allow 2 transaction per table.
That was the final straw. The waitress returns and finally asks what we'd like to drink and I reply I don't think we even want to eat here anymore. the Waitress replies "Oh. Okay." and walks away.
Didn't ask why. Didn't ask if there was anything she could do. nothing. just left.
The food is NOWHERE NEAR as good to deal with the service I experienced at that place.
Clearly they don't want money nor do they care about the customer experience.
N E V E R A G A I N!
If I could give this location zero or negative stars I'd definitely do it!
Overrated! Wait is ridiculous and the service sucks. The food is good but not worth yhe wait. I was so frustrated by the time I got my food I could not enjoy it. I amsure Gladys doesn't know how they REALLY operate.
Nothing. The food was not up to par. The waffles were cold. The fried wings had no seasoning. My husband had the collard greens and Mac and cheese had no seasoning. The restroom was very filthy and they charged us a gratuity for five people or more and the fifth person was a 8month old baby. Just horrible. Only thing that was good was our server Nefetteri. Would never recommend anyone that place.
The food is excellent...the service is HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!! You can clearly tell that the hostesses are NOT trained in customer service...they are rude, don't make eye contact and just plain disrespectful. The mes here are too expensive foe this kimd of treatment! HUGE TURN OFF!!
Food was good, service was good. But my car was booted. It says specific that there is free parking but it doesn't say where. We parked in back but wrong side of the curb. They said that we should have known. There is a very small sign that says parking but no one can see it. They said that it is my fault not theirs. I showed them the receipt and it doesn't matter we should have seen the (very small) sign that was on opposite side of the street. Unbelievable. Never going back.
This was is the worst restaurant ever ... With pan handlers outside begging for money or walking up to you asking for anything which made me feel so unsafe. Walked in and the waiter told me I had to stand outside and they will come get me. I refused to go outside with all the bums hanging around the building. I begin to explain to her that I did not feel safe outside.. This same lady seated us and when she did she threw our menus and silverware down and said there you go. I asked my waiter to speak with the manager who wasn't much help at all. He said sometimes he gets tired and throw things down himself . This by far was the worst customer service experience ever . The food is garbage and the host were very rude. I will never patronize this establishment again.
Hostess staff is iffy, but the waitress was very pleasant. Waffles were pretty good, but not great. Chicken was okay. Mac n Cheese was good! Cornbread was dry. Collard greens were from the can. Wait was super long. Just a one time visit. Shan't return.
Initially, parking was a problem. The sign, on the front of the restaurant was too small to be noticed. It said we should park in certain parking spaces for free. Thankfully the homeless looking pan-handler was watching us circling the block and approached us bravely as we exited our vehicle to offer his help. Gratefully, there was a restaurant representative watching us and others, and approached us to sort things out. Despite that, we had a great experience here, after my husband felt compelled to grease the hand of the panhandler with 2 of the 3 dollars we saved. We ordered the Uncle Ron, chicken and waffles, and Sassy Barbecue Turkey Wings. The turkey wings literally fell off the bone! FELL-OFF-THE-BONES. I was shocked! The chicken was seasoned and fried to perfection. It tasted JUST like someone fried it at home. The mac and cheese wasn't excessively cheesy looking but it had all the flavor of mac and cheese, I was surprised! My husband said the waffle was delish. It looked soft, the way I like mine. One thing I didn't like was the tea didn't have free refills but the glasses are huge and I didn't need a refill. Our server, India, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The yams were freshly cut but weren't candied to my satisfaction. The collard greens were EXCELLENT with the cornbread. Overall, it was a very positive experience.
Everything was delicious! Had the midnight train and a side of Mac and cheese. Everything was seasoned and cooked right! We had no wait, guess because we're here on a Tuesday night. Wait staff very friendly too. Great dining experience!
I dont know a good restaurant that doesn't have an extremely long wait time. Even Texas Roadhouse has a long wait time. Food was great!!!. Don't let the negativity to discourage you. Yes the servers could use some help, but I surely got my money's worth!!!!
That southern fried chicken and light fluffy waffle with a side of fried green tomatoes was delicious!!! OAN THE SWEET POTATO CHEESE CAKE SMOTHERED W/pecans was amazing! Outstanding service and R&B soul music playing made me wiggle while I ate...
The food was the most flavourful food I have eaten in a while since my own cooking. The chicken and waffles were to die for . It was amazing every time I come to atlanta I will definitely dine here. Loved it!
Terrible service on September 10, 2015. The hostess made me feel like I did something wrong because I asked about being harassed by the guy in parking lot. She said they just trying to get some money. Then we get to seat and the waiter is terrible unattentive. Then we receive our chicken and waffles and the waffles are cold and the chicken is cold and not seasoned so we send waffle back and the new ones cold as well. So needless to say we left after not eating any of our food and now our waiter becomes quick to service takes away the uneaten food quickly and is ready for payment. Payment was $63 for food none of us ate. Cold waffles who can eat those. And the waiter could careless. This was the worst experience had here and have been here several times before.
The food was pretty tasty. The manager however was very rude. The location of the downtiwn area had alot of people coming up to you begging for money. It does not seem safe. They have a police officer at the door. I will never return to that location
Very disappointed on the food. I'm from Dallas Tx and we have better food than this. I had smothered chicken and it was not good. The chicken was not tinder and the greens was not good. I also had chicken and waffles. Waffles was good chicken ok needed more seasoning. Wouldn't recommend this place.
They set the standard for chicken and waffles in my book. Get the midnight train with mac n cheese and okra if available. Don't waste your time with other items on the menu. Be prepared to wait, I always visit during the weekday and its a quick turnaround. Also, they have free parking in the back, so don't pay for parking.
It was me and my husband first time going. Had to pay for parking then wait almost an hour to sit down and on top of that had to wait 20min for waiter to come take my order.the food was like waffle house if you ask me.. Nothing special nust expensive and it cost for refills.smh.. Well we will never go back there again.. Ihop is way better then this..
We ordered our lunch at 12.20p and our meal arrived 5 minutes after... cold waffles and stale fried wings. To add to that we had a third guest at our table... the local roach! We had eaten less than half our meal and had no appetite after our guest showed up.
The lady at the register discounted our bill by a WHOLE 20% with no apology. Gee thanks - you are too kind.
Not recommended ever.
I went to this restaurant today after Falcons game, and was so excited to finally eat at this restaurant. As, I walked in my husband and I name was placed on the waiting list and told to step outside in frigid weather and our name will be called. We asked could we stand to the right next to the bench inside. However, the manager rudely told us and others that we had to step outside and wait on our name to be called, and stated"I don't want our restaurant to be closed down because you'll causing a fire hazard" and so I saw a table to our left open and asked if someone can be called to the table that seats eight people easily so that so many would not have to stand in the cold. The manager angrily and unprofessionally told all of us that she would not call anyone name until all of us stood outside, and if we didn't go outside now she would take our name off the waiting list. Needless to say my husband and I left, and went to O'Charleys in McDonough, Ga and had wonderful customer service. We will NEVER eat at any of Gladys Knight restaurant. Management must be trained how to treat customers with dignity and respect, because without customers no matter what famous person name is on the restaurant it will not last.
Great quality food. Service is adequately quick. You get an ok amount of food that will satisfy you. Will def come here again to eat and can say it would be one of the first place if I wanted southern food. Pretty busy so be sure to come during appropriate time.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Our server was phenomenal. She catered to my palate and helped me make a great decision on what to order. The seating service leaves much to be desired. I forgot to order the fried green tomatoes. My excuse to return.
First off was excited to finally eat here as well. Finally got to try it. Was not impressed. The food was bland, no seasoning, like no love was put in it. Yams and sweet potato cheese cake was good. As more people entered the restaurant. The manager was very rude to the customers. He told them about the fire hazard and told them to wait outside in the cold. So I offered to anyone that wanted to sit with me they could so they would not have to be in the cold. #overrated
I was not impressed with the food@ all the chicken was sooooooo dry, I had to send back lima beans because the whole batch was over salted not good, but servers where great and attentive and the ambiance is amazing and laid back, I was told food better at other locations, not sure might try but if food not on point will never eat at any again.
My first visit after seeing it on television. Loved the food.
Service was great and the mac and cheese was good. Their sweet tea and lemonade drink was good too. But the signature waffle and chicken wings was average. I like Chicago's in Chicago better.
Showed up around 9:30 thinking they'd be open for breakfast - should've looked at the times before doing so. Came back around opening time and there was already a line which seemed like a good sign. Loved the interior/decor and our waiter was really friendly. The chicken was hot, juicy, crisp - the waffle was a little bland and I personally would've liked it just a little crisp on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside.
Terrible experience. I really wanted to like this place. I believe our server name was josh. He was very unattentive. Waited on food for over an hour the manager informed me he rung my food in late. he never came to explain what was taking so long, never asked if we were ok on drinks, just left us there and came when the food was ready along with the manager that i asked for before my food got to me. I tasted the grits and immediately lost my apetite. Food is very bland. Only thing good about any of this was the manager she was very apologetic and nice. Unfortunately i will not return.
The customer service has gotten much BETTER. Glad to see FRESH NEW FACES (staff) at the restaurant located on Peachtree Road. Dionnia (greeter/order taker for to-go orders) was so pleasant and her customer service skill was SUPERB. As I stepped aside to wait for my to-go order, I wanted to observe other staff members to see how they interact with the customers. The NEW staff was also pleasant and they exhibited professionalism toward the customers. Jennifer (the greeter) was also pleasant and professional. Thanks for improving your customer service. CUSTOMER SERVICE MEANS EVERYTHING!!! -Angel
In town from Dallas,Tx heard a lot about this restaurant from friends and media. Atmosphere was awesome. Service was good food was delicious.I was gonna leave Atlanta without eating here. I'm glad I didn't. I really enjoyed myself with my party of 12. The best money I've spent on family eating in a while. Will glady recommend this to visitors. Keep up the good work. Service is everything.
Very long wait I would say the food is Ok but the atmostophere was amazing so i give it 5 stars bc im from louisiana but it was ok not better than what im use of eating when im home
As I currently sit here at this restaurant. First it took the server at least 15 mins before coming to the table and introducing herself and asking for our drink and food orders..okay so it took 20 mins for our drinks to get here..which pissed me off because I could've been dying of thirst or anything...we have our drinks now..we have been waiting on our food for 45 mins and the server has yet to come back to the table to check on us to see if we're doing alright or need a refill..which is very aggravating..like none of these ppl here have any customer service at all..except the lady who sat us down..I'm from Alabama and always wanted to come here and I can say this is my first and last time coming here..horrible customer service...the servers are doing more talking with eachother at the front desk instead of tending to their tables..the Owner should be ashamed and should have an mandatory training class for customer service for everyone who works here..it's crazy and it's not even busy for the food and service to be this slow...I'm so disappointed..if I could give this place a 0-star I would. And the fact the employees had the nerve to get together and talk about the customers, like how they look, what they were wearing so unprofessional to its highest. The only person that had great customer service was Ms.Nikki she wasn't even our server but she stopped by our today to take up dishes and asked if we needed anything...if anyone goes there ask for Ms.Nikki to serve you...very professional lady
I gave a one cause there's no negatives. I've had better food at McDonald's. Had to wait for almost two hours for wings that were bigger than an arm and tougher than a tire. You could of saturated the wings in Texas Pete and it still wouldn't have helped. Service was bla. Staff wasn't that pleasant. All I can say is this. If you want the most unpleasant dining experience with food that a seven year old could make better then go and enjoy yaself; at YOUR cost. Personally I could of ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and been more satisfied. Definitely will not be back!!
My daughter and I were totally disappointed with the food, and the customer service. We have a family business. We are especially aware how important it is to compliment businesses when deserved. We are the first to do just that. But in this case, we felt that it was crucial that we told the truth about our experience. The waffles looked, and tasted like store bought waffles. They were flat as pancakes. The sausage was paper thin, and appeared to have been microwaved. The fried chicken had no seasoning. The grits were runny. The staff were not customer focused at all. I pray that Gladys, and or Ron will read this post, and go and see about their business. Their names are at stake.
My family took my partner out to eat at this establishment in celebration of his commission - (He became 2nd lieutenant in the US Army.) As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted with the nastiest attitudes. Having been here before, we knew that we could not be seated without our entire party, so of course we were all there. One stepped outside to make a phone call. The host sat us down and counted us as if we were children and scolded us about not having our entire party. But we were all there. Strike 1. Then it took 30 minutes after they made my plate to let our other guests know that there were no more chicken legs or salmon patties. So every one who ordered legs or patties had to reorder something else and wait another 30 minutes for their food. When the food finally came, it was cold. The waffle tasted like an eggo, all the vegetables tasted like can food, and there was a piece of black hair as long as my weave fried into my boyfriend's chicken wing. Not to mention the dustbunny that fell into my drink. Needless to say, we won't be back.
The food was okay. After waiting nearly an hour and a half I expected to be wowed!! I ordered the midnight train, chicken and waffles. The jumbo chicken wings could have used a little seasoning. The waffle was good but, cooled off quickly. It would have been nice to have warm syrup. I must give credit to the wait staff. They were all great!! All friendly and courteous! All in all not a bad experience just not good enough to say that I must go back.
So I keep hearing this is a must eat. So I was in the area with a friend and decided to take the plunge. Staff was extremely friendly. Went for the chicken and waffles cause hey that's the signature dish right. Wait time for food was honestly a little ridiculous. But the waffle was really good. Chicken could use a little flavor. However if you go you MUST try the sweet potato cheese cake!! Pure deliciousness!!
There's a lot of hype about this restuarant but I must say, don't believe everything you hear. Chicken was very tasteless, no seasoning whatsoever. The waffle seemed , store bought (frozen). Had better at waffle house. Maybe they should invest in a waffle iron cooker. Why not make them to order??? The wait we had to endure was exciting and made you very eager. That alone got you wondering, This food is wonderful. I'm about to throw down, Mouth watering....and then youre seated. Plates come out....Disappointed!! Never again. I promise.
The wait time was horrible almost an hour and a half to be seated. There was limited space in the waiting area to sit and the seats they had were uncomfortable and tight. I thought this food would be amazing but the name definitely fools ya. The chicken was barely seasoned and the oxtail was tough as nails and chewy. The Mac and cheese was bland and the black eye peas were salty. The things to enjoy but wasn't phenomenal was the servers, the lemonade, collard greens,
cornbread, and the yams. Oh and let's not forget the cold French fries that taste old. In my opinion, this was the worst $60.00 I've spent in years. I've had better food from places on the side of the road and at gas stations😡😡😡😡
We were in town for Memorial Day weekend. First time we attempted to go, we were told 2 hr wait, we said hell no! Everybody kept saying how good the food was, it was worth the wait. We went back Sunday, waited 45 minutes. What a disappointment!!! Service is awful! Food is worst! We had the chicken and waffle-wings were dipped in flour and fried; no seasoning at all!!! If you like super bland food, this is the place for you. I also don't know too many places that charge for iced tea refills, but of course this restaurant does. I tried it, and won't ever try it again. Shame of this restaurant for having you wait for hours for the nastiness.
I've been going back and forth to Atlanta for some years and one of my staples to eat at before I leave the city is Gladys Knight Chicken and Waffles. You can be almost assured that your wait will be 45 minutes to an hour. However for good service and food, I don't mind!! But I must say that this last visit to this place was less than mediocre at best!! I always get the Uncle Ron's. With three fried wings, Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. The mac and cheese which always is very good, was very dry and tasteless!! The wings were so oily, you could see the oil puddle on the plate!! Honestly, the only thing I enjoyed was the sweet potatoes. Also, this place is known for its flavorful homemade lemonade. What I got was some minute maid fountain garbage... And all of this after waiting for over an hour in 90 degree plus weather!! I was not happy. I will have to give this place a rest for a minute. Hopefully this was just a fluke.. But as it stands right now, I won't be going back for a while!!!
Best freaking comfort food I have had in a very long time. Ordered the mid night train, which is the signature fried chicken and a waffle. The chicken was nicely seasoned and breaded but not too much to be over whelming. The waffle had a nice crisp buttery taste to it. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. In a rough part of Atlanta but it's not too bad. I would recommend parking across the street at the hospital. You will have to pay but it would be more secure.
Ummmm... It took 10 minutes to get noticed. Then when we sat down it took 15 minutes to get a drink. They didn't have ANY lemons. Then it took 20 minutes to get 3 waffles and 30 minutes for a piece of no seasoned blacken fish.. But it took it 2 minutes to get a bill... Waited was good.....
The waitress was nice but the food was terrible. My friend and I both ordered smothered chicken. We got our food unusually fast. The rice was hard, the chicken was tough and the gravy was lumpy. Which leads me to believe the food was microwaved. It was very disappointing because no one wants to pay for leftovers. I wanted to speak to the manager to clarify that the food was cook to order not reheat to order. When she came to the table she gave a very nonchalant apology about how she was "sorry for the inconvenience" and gave 10% off the bill. Which I did not ask for because the situation was more irritating than it was inconvenient. So i will never eat here again or recommend this restaurant to anyone. Which sucks because the entire restaurant could do so much better.
The staff was the upmost disrespectful. On 10/3/2016 @ 1130am The greeter continued her conversation a guy at the front door for 2 minutes while I stood there and waited to be seated. When I said something she told me "I asked you a long time ago I guess you didn't hear me so I kept doing what I was doing". She sat me and I waited for 10 minutes literally and no one took my drink order or even said hello. I went back to the greeter and asked her if they had waitresses today because no one has taken my order, she replied of course we do duh, this is a restaurant. I told her not to worry about it, I'm not from here and I'll take my business somewhere else and she told me good.
I wonder if Gladys Knight is aware that these people are using her name and not providing good service and absolutely no food at all. So... my family and I are here in Atlanta on vacation and stopped by thinking that we would get some amazing food and wonderful experience. What actually happened was we were told we would wait 30 minutes but actually waited an hour and 45 minutes (no exaggeration) only to be told by the manager that we will be seated shortly but will still have to wait about 30 more minutes because the kitchen is so backed up. There were 4 empty booths while my family and I as well as other people tried waiting patiently. We finally left and went to a nearby place and had a wonderful experience. Someone please tell Gladys what they're doing...
This was my first experience at Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles at midtown. So I was with a friend of mine and they told us it'll be a 30 to 45 minute wait, which was fine considering it was Sunday. Maybe about an 30 min. later we sat down, and the table was raggedy ,it wasn't stable it was wiggling the whole time we ate. Now we are ordering our food, we both wanted the Chicken Tender Platter, but our waitress said they didn't have anymore so she went down the list of what they didn't have. It was FIVE menu items, so we went with wings mine was buffalo and hers was lemon pepper. So our food comes out my food was fine , the fries was hot and the buffalo was on point. My friend on the other hand, her fries was cold and and her lemon pepper was lacking lemon pepper it was just greasy butter. They replaced her fries and gave her more lemon pepper sauce but nothing changed with that. So I wanted dessert ....guess what.....THEY AINT GOT NONE.
So I'm rating my overall experience at a 2/5 because, the customer service was nice and respectful and the food (my food )was nice. But the menu was lacking and the place was not up to par (with my standards).
How the hell can you be a restaurant , and run out of food. Go to the Varsity.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! My family and I waited for almost 2 HOURS and still didn't get our food. The tvs didn't works so there was no entertainment for the horrible wait. We all ordered chicken and waffles. 45 minutes into the wait they came and said we're still waiting on the WAFFLE BATTER!!!! What, it's in their name? We also couldn't have come at a better time. Usually at 1:00pm restaurants can serve you easily. We also had to wait for 50 min to just get a booth even though they had three empty ones! DO NOT GO.
The waitress was really nice but the deck was stacked against her.
The wait was about 30 minutes because they said the kitchen was behind.
When we were seated, we ordered and the appetizer took about 30 minutes to come out.
When our food came about an hour later, they said they had run our of fries. Not a big deal.
The big problem was footlong hair in the chicken. We really wanted to like the food but it wasn't that good.
Seated rather quickly as there were 20 tables open. Obviously went because of name recognition. Horrible bland chicken, old waffles, and the 1 HOUR wait for cold bland chicken and a hard waffle in an EMPTY establishment was unexcusable. It was so bad the server removed her tip from the bill (our party was larger than 6) which would have allowed a 20% gratuity.
It was NOT her fault as she was not the cook....the bill for the three in my party was over 65.00 and for chicken wings and waffles, even if prep and taste was on point was still too high. They wont be open much longer.
Upon entering the restaurant the host promptly let us know that they were cash only and not able to accept credit cards. I glanced around the establishment and the booths appeared to be in disrepair. It was dimly lit and did not feel like a warm environment. I went into the restroom and only one stall was in operation. Soap dispenser broken off the wall with a roll of paper towel in a basket on the counter. It also needed to be cleaned. After returning to the table the menu was not as vast as what was displayed online. Gladys reputation is on the line and this was terrible. Management needs to be reevaluated. We left without eating there with no intentions of ever dining in there.
Oh my gosh! I had my last meal there today! Unbelievable horrible service. The server was great. However, after a 45 min wait. I was to Oh we don't have no wings, you want a leg lol.😢 on top of that the workers were quitting by the hand full. I use to love the place food was almost like home. The man at the front said he's jumping before the ship sinks. I know Gladys is probably saying "way to go son"!
I hate not giving 5 stars but 1. The food truck didn't come so the only option was chicken and waffles. Ok since that's what we came for anyway. Food took about 20-30min to come because there was only 1 cook.
The place needs a serious makeover renovation. McDonald's is cleaner and in better condition...carpet..booths, bathroom with 1 stall out of order which based on other reviews has been out of order for some time now. They wait till u pay for parking to tell to park in the back for free! WHY NOT have a sign out front directing customers to FREE PARKING?!
STAFF AND FOOD WERE GOOD.
Long wait, no appetizers, limited sides, menu significantly smaller than online. Crowded for no reason. Wait staff seemed confused. Would give no stars if I could.
Interesting place. My food was OK, but nothing special. I was hoping for the WOW factor my coworkers were talking about but unfortunately I was not blown away. I visited the restaurant during my business trip from Florida. The five of us waited quite a while for the food. Bathroom was not very clean despite the fact it was Early in the day.
Upon arriving we almost didn't go inside the outside appearance looked closed. Seating started out a little shaky, we waited for the hostess to seat us like the sign said but there was only the waitress taking someone's order, she beckoned for someone to seat us but he was too involved in conversation we finally just seated ourselves. The food was good with nice portions. Our waitress was very nice. Like the other reviews said there's a sign stating Cash Only and that there is an ATM to the rear, we were glad we had cash we usually use debit card when we're traveling. Also the bathrooms are in need of renovations and deep cleaning. Does Gladys Knight still own this restaurant or are they just using her name.
Terrible experience!!! Don't waste your time. We waited almost an hour to be seated and over an hour for our food once we ordered. I've never had such terrible service. They didn't have any silverware washed/clean at noon when they open at 11:00. Staff was standing around chatting. Would've walked out but my kids were starving. I'll never go there again!!!
I came with husband for our anniversary. We arrived on Saturday afternoon. They open at 11am, we got seated by 2pm. I was told they ran out of baked macaroni with no substitute s. They cut menu options down to less than half. Service an quality of food has really declined since my first visit 2 yrs ago. Restaurant was cold. This will be our last visit. Gladys knight should take her name off this location.
It was okay, I went when the restaurant first opened and then again a few months ago big difference. Menu has changed and the taste of the food has also. Over it was OK!
It was good when i went I liked the items in menu. After I got the food. I was wishing I had personnel been in the back to cook and season it properly. OMG atomother was cozy and pleasant. I hope Gladys knight chicken and waffle better luck next time. Was hoping to go there today to give them another try and there frfr closed
The best fried chicken I've ever had, hands down!
Wonderful food. Atmosphere of old school restaurant with old school soul music playing in the background.
Food was great and they open late.
It was nice while it lasted!
After hearing good things about this place for so many years, my husband and I had to make this spot one of our restaurant stops during our trip to Atlanta...read this and 1189 more
