How would you rate Five & Dine?
First visit was great. Last visit at lunch the bread was stale. Sent my son and his girlfriend for dinner last night. They waited for over an hour to receive their food due to a Christmas party going on. The restaurant was otherwise pretty empty. Waiter was rude and kept ignoring them. Some of the food (waffle) came out cold. Chocolate milkshake was over blended and was like chocolate milk. We try and support local businesses but unfortunately will not be returning to Five and Dine.
We were there for lunch today, 09/29/2014 at 11:30. No one else was there. Service was horrible, slow and inattentive. There was one waitress and one other person. Drinks finally came when the food was served. My Cod fish was under cooked. Her vegi-burger was more rice (pasty), than anything else. Salad had only oil on it . . no flavor what so ever. I WILL NEVER GO BACK!
It was good. Chili was good. Meatloaf was great. I even liked the collards and I don't usually eat them. Nice place inside. The burgers looked good and I'm going back to try them all.
I wend back for the bacon cheeseburger. It was great, not over cooked, well seasoned, just right. The fries were perfectly browned. I think this is the best burger in RH. I can also recommend the cheesecake.
Great food, good service! Went to the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon (1/18/14) and while it was quite busy, we received our food on time and the spaghetti and meatballs was homemade and very delicious! I will definitely be going back!
This place is awesome! The food, service, and atmosphere were amazing. Best pimento cheese I've ever had and the turkey wrap is out of this world. Def a hidden gem in Rock Hill.
Rock Hill has a lot to offer. I had ridden by the Five & Dine a few times on my bike. Decided to go in for a late breakfast. The building has a nice old feeling which is nice. Overall a nice space. The menu is hard to read. They decided to stick with the Broadway font and it makes the menu pretty impossible to read the way they have it laid out. First rule to make sure your customers can read the menu. When I mentioned it to the staff they seemed to take it personally. It's not personal is business and I can't read your menu so that makes it hard for me to order...get over it. When we arrived there were two people in the restaurant. So adding us made 4. The service is very slow and neither of the wait staff seem to have a sense of urgency. One of them did nothing while the other one was running around not doing much of anything either. Coffee ran out constantly. Drinks went dry. Over all very slow and scattered service. Our food finally came out after about 20 minutes and was wrong and was cold. So all that running around she had forgotten to pick up the food and check the order. I ate mine since I was hungry and the other went back to get done again and only took about 7 min. to fix. Overall not bad but would be hard pressed to go there again unless it was a last minutes thing. Food was tasty but needed some tweaking. Clearly they are trying but could use some help getting it together and they need some processes.
Went for Sunday brunch. Food was unremarkable, and my Southwestern omelet was over-supplied with undercooked black beans and was, overall, undercooked. Worst of all, we waited right at 1 hour for our food after ordering, while watching numerous other parties come in, get served, eat and leave. We literally watched the place fill up and then empty during our time there. Coffee was excellent, but although I would return if a friend insisted on going there for lunch I will not go back on my own initiative.
Historic setting, excellent coffee served in authentic cups and saucers, nicely prepared sweet potato hash and eggs at breakfast, friendly service!
The food and service was outstanding!! One of the first authentic Rock Hill restaurants I went to, and I was thoroughly impressed! Try their chicken and waffles - its the BEST!
We came here in Dec 2015. My veggie burger was delicious, the service was great!
Fish and chips were way over cooked. Service was slow. Went once and learned my lesson.
First time here and I really like the food and the history of this place. The facility was clean and the prices were not too high.
This was my first experience at Five and Dine, and I was not impressed. My friend and I sat for at least 10 minutes before we were greeted by our server. Our starter salads took at least 30 minutes to get to us, and the ramekins were only half filled with ranch dressing. Our entrees took another hour to get to us, and when they did, both of our dishes were luke warm at best. The mashed potatoes were so incredibly salty that I was downing the water that hadn't been refilled once by our server. The gravy with the country fried chicken was flavorless. Additionally, the server told me that it would be a $1 upcharge to sub the broccoli for mac and cheese. Turns out, it was actually $5 to sub the side. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, I always try to give the benefit of the doubt. I was very disappointed with my experience at Five and Dine. I will not return.
The food was fabulous! My mom LOVED her milkshake. Can't wait to get hungry again so I can come back.
Must try the bbq nachos. Awesome! A huge appetizer that does not disappoint and I'm not typically a bbq guy. Well done with great service!
This diner is small, but has friendly staff and great food. I've only tried their brunch menu items but I'll have to go again to try their milkshakes, breakfasts, and fountain drinks. I would definitely recommend this place.
Nutella banana sandwich is a staple. Their Mac n cheese is the best.
My son and I really like this small diner. As a historical note, it is located where the McCrory's lunch counter was where the Friendship Nine refused to move until they were served as a part of the civil rights movement. The food is great - from chicken and waffles to steaks to a banana and nutella sandwich rolled in Captain Crunch and grilled. Definitely a stop for comfort food.
We live in Rock Hill and always walked past this restaurant. Tried them during restaurant week. Amazing food. Basic hamburger to high end steak and seafood. We will be back.
Most nastiest place. Meatloaf sand which has no flavor. Bread was soggy. Waitress was horrible didn't offer to take it off the bill when I didn't even eat it. Wouldn't let me speak to the manager. Horrible !!!
I love the pokemon flavored drinks. And even the spicy chicken they have.
In two words, simply amazing. I live in Union County, NC and drive to Rock Hill frequently for the best chicken and waffles that I have ever tasted. The waffles are to die for...going back again soon--real soon.
Historic dinner that has good food and friendly service
Seems like I can't post zero stars. This place started off pretty strong; they at least showed promise. More recently, we went as a party of six for dinner on a Sunday at 6:45. There was only one server working, so it took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. The temperature in the restaurant was 60; apparently it had been all day because the one server, who worked all day, couldn't get the owner/manager to answer her phone and then come fix it. So it just stayed at 60 degrees all day, even though it was 34 degrees outside.
Finally, the food was horrible. Cold, overcooked, seemingly tossed together into a disgusting sludge, in the case of the pot pie, and ultimately, barely edible.
It's a shame, but we won't be going back.
Tried their restaurant week menu, it was terrible. Even the desserts were no good.
Great food in a historic setting
Great bartender and tasty food. I recommend the chicken and waffles with a house made soda
Nasty food. I had the "slow cooked" pot roast, it sucked! Tasted horrible. They say it's cooked for hours but it wasn't obviously. Dad had fish, he said it wasn't done. The insides was slimy. When we got home everybody had the sh1ts. Why would anyone eat this dog poo anyways? Idiots should try to cook their food and make it good instead of lie and make their own reviews.
Had a potpie originally but was a bit under done. Our waitress exchanged it out promptly. For another dish. ( Chicken & waffles) yum! Great service.
I had the worst restaurant experience.. no the worst experience ever at this establishment .. the food was horrible it was under cooked and stale and old looking. The employees were horrible, they didn't look like they knew what they were doing . But the worst of it all was the management. Complete lack of knowledge on how to do her job. She was in the phone the entire time and didn't seem to care about how the restraunt was operating. She did nothing. The employees were noticeably irritated with her for her crap job. My whole experience made the rest of my day so shitty. I had diarrhea and cramps all day, not to mention how awful it was going down. If I was to give advice to someone willing to go here. Rethink. Please.
Nice spot for a quick lunch. Reminds you of an old fashion soda shop. Shakes and ice cream too!
I am not sure what the person ordered who said it was a small portion. The portion sizes here are actually huge. My fiance and I were unable to finish ours and took home the left overs. I got the smothered chicken, and my fiance got the BBQ pork dish. It was the best food we have had in a long time. The customer service was decent, it was bothersome she had her personal friends in there to chat with the entire time. But it didn't distract her from making sure we were taken care of. It is certainly a casual place to eat. I personally thought it was a little upscale so that was my bad. We will certainly be back!!
Food and service very good. BBQ meatloaf and smothered chicken were great. Big portions at reasonable prices.
Food was delicious. Southern favorites with a twist. Loved the Fried green tomato blt. Staff was friendly and attentive. Would love to go back when visiting the area.
Great food. Great atmosphere. I love southern dinning and this was it. I ordered the turkey avacado wrap and my husband ordered the chicken and waffles. Both were fantastic! I will be back.
I've had chicken and waffles before and usually when it's recommend it's just so so. But here it was really great! Tender chicken, soft sweet waffels and wow did the size of the shrimp and grits balls shock the girlfriend! 10/10 would recommend!
Took my mother-in-law here for dinner, and the four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Extremely reasonable prices in general, and the food was absolutely delicious.
The food was amazing! The waitress was very friendly, and relatable. I have nothing negative to say about this place. The prices of the food matches the quality of the food, just saying.
The burgers are about it...I have been several times, and had everything on the menu, the only thing consistent is the great atmosphere, and the burgers. Yesterdays visit involved the Tuna Melt, fries and a cup of soup. The cheese wasn't melted, tuna cold in the middle, fries were not cooked fresh (even thogh I ordered well done), and the soup had an oil slick on top.
A perfect little place to eat in a small town environment. The serve local craft beer and the service is exceptional. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles a generous serving for the price. This is a little bite of heaven with the white maple bacon glaze and candied bacon on top. The chicken is very tender and has great flavor. The dish is perfect with or without syrup. Fine and dine is a must try when in the Rock Hill area.
True gem of down town Rock Hill. Amazing food and service. A cheeseburger and a chocolate shake is just perfect. The chicken and waffles are amazing as well.
I really enjoyed their shrimp and grits. The server was fantastic. We were very pleased with our selection.
Enjoyed a nice brunch with friends today at Five and Dine... great food and service, nice atmosphere, good value, we'll be back again soon!
Food was delicious. Prices are reasonable. Very friendly service and nice atmosphere.
Came in shortly before lunch time opening today. Brittani was very gracious and invited us in. The atmosphere was great, the service exceptional and the food excellent. Came back after many years to enjoy the Old Towne restaurant, but have been pleasantly surprised. I will be making the trip back from North Carolina to eat here again.
A great place to done with family. Also has a bit of history to the place. If your not aware of what took place in restaurant you should ask or take the time to look around.
Great food and wine pours ! Loved the smothered chicken and wedge salad ,,,,historic sit in took place on site,,, second visit was great improvement on service ,,great waitress and great music as well ,,, awesome tomato soup and grilled cheese ,,,5 stars for the best tomato soup and live music in area !! thank you!!
The chicken and waffles were awesome. Waffles light and fluffy. Chicken fried crispy. Will definitely visit there again.
Menu has changed for the worse. Very disappointes in the drastic change. I was embarrassed to have suggested the restaurant after looking at the quality of food and the price we were paying.
My daughter and I split the Caesar salad which we both loved. For main course she had Chicken Tenders and French Fries from the Kids Menu and I had the Pot Roast. The Pot Roast was spectacular. Thick, juicy, tender, and plenty of it - three large pieces. I ate two and took the rest home. The vegetables were also very good - potatoes, celery, carrots, and a tasty root vegetable. My daughters’ Chicken Tenders must have been awesome because she ate them all - and she rarely finishes her meal. We were both stuffed, and about to fall asleep in the comfortable booth we were in :-)
A great menu that offers freshly prepared food with an emphasis on "comfort" and a touch of nostalgia for the days of soda fountain lunch counters and chocolate egg creams. Although we were there for lunch this time, this is a great place for supper ad well. There us ample parking, either on the street out front, or in the free public lot in behind the building.
One of my favorite places to dine in Rock Hill. Very accommodating staff. New items are often added to their menu. Best items include homemade Mac n Cheese and their banana nutella sandwich. Try it as a dessert.
Great food! Fun old school atmosphere with a lot of history. Chicken and waffles were awesome.
Love the history of Five and Dine. The food is amazing and atmosphere is relaxed. Try the Shrimp and Grits or even the Chicken and Waffles. Delicious!
Very nice lunch today with colleagues. Service was fast, prices were reasonable and the food was delicious! What more can you ask for? If you're in downtown Rock Hill, you have to stop here.
Well ...very different than the place I went to a few years ago. Our server was completely clueless. She was unable to answer simple questions like, "how big are the sliders?" or, "do you guys still mix your own sodas?". I don't think she was new it just seemed like she didn't care. The food is still amazing though
The menu is simple, but great choices. The food is well prepared, and served with a decent presentation. Atmosphere is very chill and relaxing. Great staff, all around a wonderful experience.
Had a very nice dinner last night. Food was good, service was friendly and fast. All around good time. Definitely going back.
This place is consistently fantastic! The menu items are southern based but with a fun spin. Get a hand made soda and the donut sliders....my mind was blown at how good it was. I’ve been coming here for five years and it’s never wavered in awesome quality
Neat little find. I stumbled upon this place, and was delighted. Lots of different soda options. They had delicious brunch and lunch items. Cute little coffee club too. I don't live close enough, but cute idea.
We love Five & Dine!! We head there for a meal every time we go downtown to the Thursday farmers market. Great staff and great menu items!
What a great little treasure in downtown Rock Hill! They have a very friendly staff and awesome food for anyone's tastes. From the mimosas to the fried green tomatoes, everything is delicious!
They even prepared a dessert not on the menu for us because we didn't have time for a full sit down meal! If I could give this restaurant 10 stars I would. 😁. Definitely check it out because the famous history of this place alone will have you in awe in itself. Enjoy!
Great breakfast. Good use of an uptown space. I'll be back!
This was an excellent experience. The food was wonderful. The staff was attentive and pleasant. If you are looking for a great place to eat, this is where it's at.
we loved our visit so much! the food was out of this world & cooked perfectly! staff was so friendly & the atmosphere is so cozy. highly recommend.
Super busy with local event. Did not seem like they staffed accordingly. Waited at bar for 10 minutes, never got served. Never acknowledged
I'm not writing a review about the diner, but I was hoping that I could get in touch with the Friendship 9 or at least get some information about them. I have to write a paper and do a project on them and need primary sources. If you have any information that could help me that would be great. Thanks!
Excellent food. Great service. Unique decor. They have never disappointed.
Historic location right on main. Take the time to walk the hall and read the walls, and peek into what might have been a ballroom judging by the chandeliers. The restaurant is nicely decorated with fast and friendly service. Fantastic beet salad. Oozing grilled cheese, needed a touch of zing but large portions and great prices. Yummy tomato soup. Others dishes going by looked delicious.
This place rocks! I've lived in Rock Hill for over a year and haven't had a great meal out until I came here. I still can't get over how good this food was! The service was great, the atmosphere was friendly and my chicken & waffles was to die for! I'll definitely be back
Best chicken and waffles hands down!!!!!! My family and I have been 2 times now and same great server and atmosphere!!! Thank you for your awesome service!! It's hard to find in this day and age😄
By far one amazing diner, we've been here for dinner on one of our date nights, and breakfast during the Christmas Ville event that takes place in December....read this and 95 more
