How would you rate Fenton's Jamaican Jerk Chicken?
Excellent excellent excellent! The real deal. I have been looking for a place that serve good jerk chicken for a while. Look no further!
When I opened the door, it took me right back to Jamaica. It tasted just like on the streets in Negril. I had the wrap for lunch and it was enough for two. I Am definitely going back again soon.
This was our first time visited this restaurant but it definitely won't be our last. The portions were plentiful and delicious. We had jerk chicken wings, plantains and carrots. Our entire family loved it.
This place is awesome! Ask about what they have that is not listed on the menu. Chicken gumbo, pepper pot soup, the jerk chicken is great, today I had the curry chicken.
The food is delicious let me get that out of the way right now. The reason I am giving them three stars is because i've been here three times to eat, I have tried the curry goat and the oxtail twice and on all those occasions I have gotten more bones than meat in my entree. Now I'm not an idiot and yes giving the dishes I ordered one can expect bones in their meal. Eating this kind of food you learn to eat around them or pick them out and just continue. But if by the time your done picking the bones out and you are left with just a few pieces of meat then that to me is an issue. Especially if you are paying 12-14 bucks for a meal at lunch. Fenton please fix this!
The food is absolutely amazing everytime! We love the jerk chicken, ox tail and curry chicken. The beef patties with coco bread is very yummy and great for children. My husband has had Jamaican food from several different places in the U.S. and he says Fenton's in the best! Good atmosphere, and the owner is a very sweet man! 😀
You could hear the microwave working in the back. Everything is microwaved. There was a layer of water in the bottom of my jerk chicken from the, you guessed it, microwave.
never had the food.it maybe great, but ill never find out because they just sold me some sam's club microwavable beef patties for 3.50 plus tax....now i've been to jamaican spots in nyc,ca,al,atl, chi.and never paid more then $2 for a patty and that was rare..so i assumed for 3.50 made to order beef pattiy i was getting sometime special....smh.......smh...no i got a soggy patty..soggy! because at was heated in the microwave...now the girl there was nice, but i wont be going back no time soon....if you dont know what i real patty is you maybe thinking im trippin, but if you do then you know how i feel...fake patty alert
Been looking for Jamaican food for a while now and found this spot...ordered a large jerk chicken and the chicken I got was sooo dry.... I did enjoy the beef patty though and my husband ordered Ting ..he loves that drink so I give them a 3 star for putting a smile on my husbands face. The restaurant atmosphere also reminded me of back home in Westmoreland..hot nuh backside in deh!" despite my chicken being dry i"ll go back and give it another try... Big up unuh self same way!!
Excellent food @ Fenton jerk, I love everything about this restaurant i have no complaint .staff r also friendly. .my favorite is the oxtail, jerk chicken and the fish
The food is amazing and consistent!! Fenton is a great guy and a very friendly, hard working business owner. You will not be disappointed by anything on the menu. Be ready for some spice, but I love it!!!
Their jerk chicken is delicious and has a kick. I ordered the jerk chicken wings once and was disappointed because you do not get sufficient amount of meat for the price they charge for them. The taste was great though. The place is a whole in the wall, but don't be fooled. Highly recommended.
Very friendly clean affordable reasonable more food for your money
Food was very good but the service not so much. When I went (group of 4) we arrived before the lunch rush and it took 25 minutes to get the main dishes. We had ordered 2 beef patties when took 50 minutes to get and took them to go. 50 minutes for anything is unacceptable.
Excellent service, sizeable portions, fresh ingredients, and wonderful food! Wonderful atmosphere, too. 5/5 would highly recommend!
I trying the oxtail an OMG THIS FOOD SOOOOOOOO GOOD this is my first time here I read the reviews and thought to give it a try an a SO glad i did I've tried other Jamaican spots in Detroit but I must this one IS THE BEST OMG
Best Jamaican food I have ever had. If you are in Detroit, you must come here to eat. The service and food cannot be found anywhere else. This was my first trip to Detroit, and this made it the best.
The food was soooooo good and the customer service was awesome we had the jerk chicken and the curry goat OMG was it good I'm from Atlanta and this has to be one of the best Jamaican food I've had! Thanks keep up the great work 😊
We were greeted and served by a really friendly guy, and the food (we got jerk chicken and goat curry) was delicious. We got small size, the portion was generous so we walked out full.
The food is good. The amount of food you received ???. I understand that your trying to make a living.
Tried this place out a few weeks ago and their food is amazing! Reminds us of a time we were in Jamaica and had the Jerk Chicken . Can't get any more authentic than this place! So happy my husband stumbled upon this place!!
Very tasty curry chicken! Not too spicy and very filling with rice, plaintain, veggies.
Fenton's food is very delicious! I love the jerk chicken wings!! Best jamaican food in Detroit!
Clean, generous portions, simple menu, fast/friendly service, fair prices.
Authentic Caribbean food. Having been raised in the Caribbean myself, and living most of my life in South Florida, I can assure you that there is not a better representation of authentic Caribbean food in the entire metro Detroit area. I've been living in Michigan for a little over a year, and GOOD and Authentic Caribbean flavors in this area just don't exist. At 1st I thought the prices were just a bit high, but knowing that this type of cuisine is rare in the area, I realized I needed to get over that. I'M SO GLAD I DID. Not just flavorful and colorful, they also have very generous portions, extremely friendly and clean service. Most importantly, the flavors are ALL THERE. I can't stress enough how glad I am I found this place.. I wish them best of lucks. See you soon!
Great chicken at a good price. Highly recommend.
Great place! All home made authentic so watch for bones in the curried goat.
It was Father's Day and wanted to try something different. We drove 28 miles for dinner and it was worth it! My husband ordered the curry goat and the ox tail, because he couldn't make up his mind! We all really enjoyed our food and our left overs the next day!
A nice little spot tucked away in southfield...excellent food, good portions, will definitely return!
Good food and good service I be back.
Food is tasty. However, I would highly recommend ordering ahead via phone, and check your food and receipt before leaving the restaurant to make sure everything is correct. Also call to confirm the hours, the hours listed on Google may or may not be correct, and they seem to change the opening & closing hours/days as they wish.
Fentons food is great. I usually get a large jerk chicken comes with rice and beans and a huge portion. Great food only critique is service can be a bit slow. Even if it's not crowded. For take out I'd call ahead.
I was pleasantly surprised. Ordered the oxtail with rice and beans and I didn't regret it one bit. The brother was really courteous too
I Love this place!.. I've been eating here for 2 months going every week since. I even feel better when I eat his food. No acid reflux problems or nothing and no feeling heavy, full or bloated. Please visit it's Awesome. Love Mr. Fenton Great man!...
As soon as you put a bite of Fenton's food in your mouth and close your eyes you and almost believed that you were in Jamaica. The food is really awesome tasting and he gives you nice healthy portions just the way they do in Jamaica. If you want the real deal I would suggest visiting there as soon as possible!
Found this by luck back in the summer. Excellent food. Goat Curry is outstanding. The owners are very friendly and makes everyone feel welcome.
Excellent customer service. Delicious food and truly giving. I witnessed a homeless man walk into this establishment hungry asking for work in exchange for food. The owner had no work as it was just done but ask the man what did he want to eat the man said jerk chicken quarter and the owner gave him a complete meal with a beverage and told the man to enjoy his lunch... Seeing this made me love this place even more. I love their salad's and their ox tails are amazing.
Poor customer service. Food is overpriced. Limited seating. Limited parking.
First time trying Jamaican food and it was DELICIOUS! Friendly staff, large portions, quick service. The jerk Chicken gave me life! It was flavorful, tender, fell right off the bone and just absolutely delicious! Ask for the jerk chicken juice on your rice and beans, you won't regret it! Would definitely come here again!
Met Fenton and what excellent jerk chicken! Everything was homemade and served piping hot. They even had a guy singing and playing Jamaican music inside. This place is going on my regular rotation.
Great food, great service, authentic Jamaican food. You walk in and the smell is just mesmerizing
Some of the most friendliest people you'll meet. The older male and woman are so sweet. The food is delicious. Even though it's already cooked sometimes they are slow to give you your food. Besides that I love this place! The jerks wings are so good!
Well, upon the first visit...to die for, simply great. Returned approx three (3) weeks later on a Thursday eve, very disappointing. Consistency is VERY important when serving special culinary dishes. My advice...Keep good chefs, always. My vote...I'll give it one more shot.
Unique menu for Southeast Michigan area. Owner is very friendly and an authentic Jamaican, accent and all. All the meat is smoke barbecued the same day. Excellent food and company!
The food is superb and the owner is friendly and humble
Its a small hole in the wall place off Northwestern. Pleasantly surprised. Everything was better than expected. Chicken was cooked to perfection. Tender and moist. Melts in the mouth. Cornbread is really good too. We were at the Cornbread & Beans place down the street and it was awful. They have cornbread in their restaurant name and it was half as good as the Cornbread here.
The gentleman here was super nice and friendly. Great guy.
Food portions are really generous. I ordered small and I couldn't finish it, but that's great because now I have lunch for tomorrow.
My wife and I left the movie theater hungry and saw this place across the street we decided to try it. Got out of car and the food smelled so good. We go in and the buffet table faces the customer behind glass. We tell the lady it's our 1st time there and ask her to let us see the food so we can decide what to order. She says no. I laugh thinking she's joking but she's dead serious and tells us chef doesn't like to show his food. WHAT? Soooooooo we say u don't want to sell your food then and leave. I've never experienced anything like that b4. You can't have my business with that kind of practice.
I’m always pleased with my order. The service and friendly and reliable. Fresh tasting food and nice size portions.
In town for business and decided to try this place since I love love love Jamaican food. The jerk chicken here was super delicious! It was fall off the bone good! It was so good I had to order two extra plates for me to bring to my hotel room for later enjoyment. This Fenton's Jamaican Jerk Chicken restaurant is definitely recommend.
The aroma when you walk in is like being in Jamaica, the music is totally Jamaican, the friendly service from Desta made my 1st visit here very special. The gentleman at JR Cigar nextdoor and his co-workers highly recommended the restaurant. Portions are very generous, and the taste Mon, can't compete; it's the best. Air conditioned inside you can sit comfortably and enjoy your food. Don't rush, because there's Jamaican Rum Cake for desert. Come relax and enjoy the taste of Jamaica.
Fenton’s is a very down to earth place with delicious food. I no longer eat meat, but I use to love his Jamaican Jerk Chicken. Fenton, the owner, is an extremely kind and friendly person who wishes to please all his customers.
Best jerk chicken restaurant ever! Curry chicken was amazing! Meal came with tons of rice and beans with a side of vegetables then smothered with curry sauce all over. The food was fresh and management was so nice and kind. We dined in and they brought the food to the table then checked on us later to see how we liked the meal. They move in beans and cornbread plaza in August and I will keep following them for this delicious food!
Just like I had in Jamaica. Great staff, small portion is plenty to feed a large man. Looking forward to exploring more of the menu.
Good grub. Healthy portions. Friendly people. The goat curry is great - spicy and full of flavor. The jerk chicken is very moist/tender but, unfortunately, not smoked or grilled.
Great friendly staff. The food is amazing and comes in great portions. I drove an hour to get there, and I will continue to drive that hour, that’s just how good the food is.
EXCELLENT FOOD, Great Service with a smile from Mr. Brown. I will be back for the Salmon. Oxtail were superb!!!
The best jamaican food I've ever had! Well seasoned! We come here very often.
Thought the food was outstanding! This place has top notch Jamaican. The decor is nice too! The jerk chicken is great! Fell in love with it and find myself going back for more. Very classy place. The owner is usually there to greet you with a smile. The corn bread is also wonderful. I have been to many upscale restaurants this place is the best of the best when it comes jerk chicken with beans and rice! Give it a try, you'll walk away a believer too!
If you haven't tried this yet... YOUR MISSING OUT! Best jamaican food I EVER tasted hands down!
The service here is always top notch and the food is amazing. If you're looking for a meal to test the waters with, I highly recommend the jerk chicken pasta (might be the best thing on the menu). Excellent balance of sweet and heat. This pasta dish is so good, had it been served at my wedding, I might still be married.
Food was good... Big portions even with a small its alot which I like, i save and eat on later or take for lunch the next day.. I'll be back...I had the Veggie Plate..My son had Curry Chicken..
I absolutely love this place!. Great food, Great Service, Great location. Best Jamaican food ever!!
This place is terrific, I highly recommend. Good People, Good Service, Good Times. I wish there were more of them around!
This is not what real Caribbean Food taste like. The only reason people are liking this food, is because they have no idea of what real Caribbean food taste like. Ask the owner if he's ever been cited for health violations? Ask the owner about those health violations before you buy food from there.
Great food! I get the curry goat and jerk chicken, with beans and rice and cabbage! The only place I go for Jamaican cravings! Drag flowers on each table set the decor! Reggae music sets the environment! Great service! Excellent food! Overall great place! Come here! You’ll become a regular! - The Cochran’s
Delicious food and Service with a smile. You won’t be disappointed with your visit. Plus new location with more space.
My family and I first visit was last summer and we loved this place. Returned today on a Thursday, very disappointing. The person addressing dining room greeted me hello, and then I must have stood at the counter for several minutes waiting for someone to take my order. My advice...Keep good and alert staff.
I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews. The jerk chicken is very good compared to some other places. Staff was friendly. I did find a couple little twigs in the rice like someone else said but I just picked them out. Its from the seasons they use... no big deal. The greens were a lil under cooked but still editable and were good. I love their red beans and rice.
The food was ok, not as flavorable as I’d like. The chicken patty is better. The customer service??? Not so much. Not friendly, just very serious looking, no smiles at all. Not even a crack of one both times I’ve gone. I’d probably visit more often had this not been the case on both occasions when I visited. You should greet with a smile, be more welcoming, small talk a little. Show the warmer, friendlier side.
Went during lunch hour on a weekday. My coworkers got curry chicken and I got stew chicken. Both very good and juicy! Meat falls off the bone. Even small size is a large volume of food, and the plantain that came with it was delicious. It does take about 20-25 min for the food to be prepared, so if you're in a hurry, call in advance to place order or else be prepared to wait. This is no fast food! The man who took my order I think is the owner. Very nice man and I am happy to support his business.
This was my first time here and I LOVED it! The food was amazing and the customer service was phenomenal! The food was so good!! I know I said it twice but I had to. I definitely will be back
I just got some sides. Fantastic cabbage and rice & beans. I can't wait to try more if the menu. Clean establishment and friendly staff.
Impressed! Lots of delicious food for a very reasonable price. Friendly and fast service. Can't wait to try some more items.
So far all I had was the beef patty, which was delicious. Flaky and crispy, not greasy dough enveloping a beautifully spiced fine ground beef mixture.
A bit pricey overall, but less than a ticket to Jamaica!
An oasis in a desert full of Coney islands and bland Middle Eastern food.
Oh, my! If you're looking for some authentic, delicious Jamaican food, look no further! Jamaican Fenton's never disappoints! There's now even live music during the lunch hour; what a pleasant surprise!
We arrived at this restaurant for a meeting. This spot was recommended to us by a friend. Well, it was a winning. we were warmly welcomed by the crew and we had a fantastic feeling. The food was just great. We loved this restaurant a lot and we shall definitely come back again. Highly recommended.
I really enjoy their food. I always get good customer service here. The place is clean and the employees are always very friendly. I highly recommend this place.
Always on point! You can dine in or take out. Whatever your heart desire but with any meal that you choose you must get a Ting to top it off. Omg! I'm talking good eats. Enjoy!
Wonderful food! When you walk in to this cute little restaurant the smells of jamaican food and spices make your mouth water! All the meat was fall off the bone. We tried the jerk chicken, curried goat, and the oxtail. The goat tastes a little like pork with a very slight gamey flavor and a light curry sauce. The oxtail was a little more smoky and similar to a prime rib. All were delicious!
Tried this place while working in the area. FANTASTIC...I had the jerk chicken. Spice was just right. Had some kick without being overpowering. Meat just falls off the bone. Very moist and tender. I got the small portion and it was plenty to fill me up. I wouldn't be able to take down the large I'm guessing (but would deffinelty enjoy the leftovers). Chef was very nice and personable. If I lived closer this would be a regular stop for me. I'll be back next time I'm in the area. 👍👍
I adore this place! They prepare high quality food, their menu is nice, The cook in that place is a professional, I love a lot tasting all their dishes. The food is always good, the service towards the guests is helpful. I often eat in this place and I was never discontended. I highly recommend it.
The worst food I’ve ever tasted!!! I had the curry chicken and it was absolutely DISGUSTING!!! Didn’t even taste like curry chicken! Horrible recipe! Wouldn’t even give it to a dog! The cabbage didn’t taste clean at all! Had I tasted it before leaving I DEFINITELY would’ve got my money back! I’ll just stick to The Jamaican Pot on 8 mile or Jamaica Jamaica on 7 mile!
Very bland and overcooked jerk chicken. Ox tail was all fat and also bland even though they said. Spicy.
Have a Jamaican wife and sampled lots of ja food.
This wasn't good. However plantains and coco bread was good.
Both my parents are Jamaican, and I was raised in a Jamaican church. To me Jamaican food is life. Believe me when I say I've been lucky enough to taste the...read this and 105 more
