Just Fabulous! Where do I start?! The ambiance/vibe, my Server and the food was amazing! I had the Fried Seafood Entree and it was to die for! I will definitely be back when I return to Detroit next month on business. Kudos to the Chef!
I can't get enough of this place. From the ambience to the food. Everything is perfect!!
My only issue is not over eating because EVERYTHING is so delicious! My favorite dishes are Shrimp and Grits, Motor City Broil, The Beefsteak Tomato and Crab Cakes. Oh and their greens are SUPERB!!!
OMG the shrimp and grits is Amazing. The decor is cute and modern. The whole vibe of the restaurant is really nice. I will be back soon.!
The collard greens were horribly salty. The manager, Tonya, said the greens were sitting in its "reduction". She bought out another serving. No thanks. The salmon is dry. Outback has far better salmon. I won't return. The server Lee was great. The banana Foster desert is what made the evening not a complete waste. Outstanding.
Absolutely loved this place!!! Shrimp and grits were to die for! Impeccable service by the wait staff. I will most definitely be back :)
I had one of the most enjoyable experiences at Savannah Blue!! We walked in to such a beautiful atmosphere. Two people greeted us warmly and we were immediately seated. Shortly after our server came to take our drink orders. She was so helpful with the menu, and was patient with us as first time visitors. The drink menu is amazing! So creative! We ordered the fried chicken and the shrimp and grits. We barely got into good conversation, and our food was being served! I expected to wait (with no problem) for such good food, but it was very fast. EVERYTHING......EV. ER...Y....THANG....was delicious! The greens were tender and well seasoned, the sweet potatoes came with a glaze that tasted like Jesus made it, the grits were smooth and tasty, and the shrimp were fresh, huge and perfectly cooked. If I could stand it, I would have had something sweet, but I couldn't stop eating my entree. It was so nice to have great food in a great atmosphere. Everyone was so professional, inviting and just excellent! On the way out, the greeters were just as warm as they saw us off and invited us to come again. Thank you, for such an enjoyable dining experience.
Food was phenomenal. Best Ox Tail I've had since leaving South Florida. Catfish fritters were so fresh you could taste the river mud! Grits were perfectly done too. Cocktails and the whole nine. Home Run!
I googled restaurants in downtown Detroit, I was looking for something different, somewhere I'd never been before. This place came up in my search, the description and the reviews intrigued me.. we arrived at around 8 pm on a Saturday night, it was busy but not overcrowded.. I would definitely make reservations for my next visit because they only had spots at the bar available at the time.. ordered drinks, pricey but tasty.. ordered a special 3 course meal for 35$, The FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING!!! I'LL DEFINITELY RETURN..the vibe and the ambience of the place was great too...
Love this place! I was visiting from Washington Dc and this place was recommended though my food app. I was not disappointed! The salmon was very tender as well as the ox tails and the service was good. I will say if you are looking for a quiet place to dine this is NOT the place for you, its very noisy! I would definitely will come back when I'm in town.
Parking is five dollars in the lot right behind the building. The walk is a couple minutes literally. There are some stairs you walk up so the location is not accessible easily to all. I had the oxtail dinner and my date the fried chicken with Mac and cheese. The food and service was excellent. Their wine is not that great but other wise great time. I would suggest.
Food was amazing. The flavour of the jambalaya was so rich, spiced perfectly, with perfectly cooked shrimp and risotto. I was blown away. The service was good and the place seemed notably well-staffed. It feels like there's always someone nearby if you need something. Will definitely be back.
Awesome all round Mike waited on us. He offered up suggestions with it being our first time. The food is amazing. What an delightful experience. The Savannah Blue is a must, if you looking for soul food or better yet an experience!
My wife and I went back. She order the oxtail. It was great...again. This time though i ordered the ribs. THEY. ARE. EPIC. This place cant make a bad dish. We had the wings for a starter, they too we excellent. This place is a gem.
I have had several good experiences here previously, usually ordering the fried chicken and a variety of sides and appetizers. Usually good food, never a problem with the service, great service. Tuesday I decided to try the Oxtail entree. It was served lukewarm and the risotto it was on top of turned into mush basically. I became very very sick hours later and 5 days later I am still recovering from either food poisoning or the stomach flu ( my only other meal that day was a meatless rice dish for lunch). This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but now I'm scared to even go back unfortunately. Just make sure the food is cooked thoroughly and you should enjoy!
Edit: I have gone back several times and have enjoyed great food and exceptional service. I will continue to frequent this great establishment. Updated my review from 3 back to 5 stars.
Beautiful, groovy setting. Delicious food. Attentive service. Great drinks. One of my favorite spots in Detroit.
Everything was delicious, but the wings stood out the most. Ambience was great and the service was prompt and courteous. Would definitely recommended this little, hard to find gem in the city.
We ate here after a Pistons game. I had never heard of it. I searched for food near me and it popped up with great reviews.
The reviews lived up to the many stars given. The food was exceptional. I had fried chicken, and it was probably the best I had ever had. It came with collard greens which were amazing. They had turkey in them, and while I do prefer ham in my greens, the turkey was still very good. The cornbread was buttery and delicious. It also came with candied yams which were also extremely delicious. The sweet tea was very good also! I grew up in Tennessee. I hate living in the south, but I love eating in the south. This place will bring you home!
PS: The server we had was wonderful! Everyone was very nice! You would expect this everywhere you ate out at, but trust me, it isn't the case.
My only complaint, and this is probably more on me and not the restaurant. It was too loud for my taste. The darker atmosphere with the candles was perfect, but the noise level was so high that I could barely hear my server, or my wife and son talk. I don't take away stars for something like that though. It still deserves 5 stars IMO.
Service was amazing I most definitely will be back Chicken breast was perfect, I under estimated the collard green they were delicious Amazing and The cornbread The Lemonade The Catfish AMAZING! I will be back ASAP. It’s Most definitely a Gem To find we drove around 3 times before we found it
My wife and I just ate there and couldn’t be more happy! Nice rustic comfort food with a fine dining twist! The chicken wings were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the seasoning cut nice against the sweetness of the barbecue dipping sauce!! So good so crisp, sweet and salty balanced!! Service was amazing! And now for the oxtail. Oh my god get this!! Melts in your mouth and blends with the cheddar Risotto perfectly, combined with the texture of the asparagus and garnish - to die For!! And the gravy took me back to my grammas house!! Nice well seasoned well balanced food cooked and seasoned perfectly!! Exceptional service on a busy night, and. Avery comfortable atmosphere!!! Also not too hard on the checkbook!! We will be back!
We arrived early, shortly after 5 on a Wednesday night during the polar vortex deep freeze, and as a result we were the first party to arrive and had the entire restaurant to ourselves. Awesome service, I ended up having the salmon which was perfect, on top of a bed of sweet yams that tasted absolutely amazing! Loved it, would absolutely go again.
My husband took me here tonight and we had a waitress named Brittney she was amazing so knowledgeable about all the food and wines! (Absolutely amazing) The food was so good I had shrimp and grits, my husband had the oxtails! Oh and the catfish fritters were bomb too! The atmosphere is really romantic as well. We definitely recommend this restaurant and we will be back!
Went there for my 21st birthday dinner and everything was absolutely amazing. The servers were kind and professional and the food was delicious! The decor really makes you feel fancy. It IS quite pricey, however I think the money is worth it!
Delicious seafood chowder and braised oxtail with cheddar risotto!! Excellent service and a wonderful vibe. Thank you for a lovely dinner with my mother in law, I will be back!
You always hear that people are quick to leave bad reviews so anytime I have a horrible experience somewhere, I make sure that I leave a review for one of my good experiences as well. My husband had reservations and we went to Savannah Blue on Valentine’s Day. All of the staff was very nice. They have a nice waiting lounge but we were seated right away! The food was great. It was southern style but the atmosphere was upscale. The drinks were not watered down, strong. The music level was even perfect. Although the tables were closer together, the music was loud enough not to here the table next to you, but not too loud where you couldn’t hear the conversation at your own table. The price to portion size was also good. Not overly expensive, but expected for a nice restaurant and the portions were good. The wait for the food wasn’t too long either. Overall experience was immaculate. I LOVED The mac n cheese and crab cakes. Chicken was fried perfectly too!
My wife and I visited Detroit for the weekend in January 2019 and several friends recommended this restaurant. Great food. Large portions. Great atmosphere. I would highly recommend SavannahBlue to friends. If possible, make a reservation in advance.
This place is seriously good. I loved the hummus with black eyed peas and the crab cakes. My partner loved the cornmeal crusted fish. Everything was fabulous. It's hard for us to get out of Ann Arbor for a meal, but this place is totally worth getting a sitter for the evening. A+, one of my favorite places EVER.
This might be the best brunch experience I had to date. Food was excellent. Alcoholic drinks were perfect. Atmosphere was awesome. We will definitely be back for brunch next Sunday.
I recently visited Savannah Blue on an overnight trip to Detroit. I was very skeptical on whether or not the food would be any good, therefore my expectations were low. I had the fried chicken with greens and yams, while my guest ordered the fried catfish with greens and mac n cheese. We were blown away, the food was AMAZING! The chicken was nicely fried, the greens were REAL, (not glory greens or canned,) real mac n cheese (not boxed or dry) and the yams were a not blend of cinnamon, and brown sugar. The catfish was nicely fried as far as breading and texture but was slightly fishy so not sure if it was fresh or stored correctly. Although this was soul food, the restaurant is upscale so I would recommend dressing up a little. There is a full bar so they can probably accommodate any most drink request. The only con about this place is it's not handicap accessible, so you have to go up 2 flights of stairs, there is a landing in case the person wants to rest. I would highly recommend if you're in downtown Detroit area and looking for real soul food to stop by. Also, they don't have parking so there is a parking garage across the street or a parking lot in back both of which we have to pay for. I parked on the street and it was only $2.50.
I love this place. SavannahBlue is a soul food fine dining restaurant. The Mac & Cheese is a must get but don't sleep on the shrimp and grits. Exceptional customer service. We loved Ricardo. Great date night place or good for parties dinner. The food and drinks are really amazing.
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to! We had the hummus appetizer, the fried chicken, crab cakes and the oxtail. Absolutely everything was delicious, and we’ll be sure to eat here again when visiting Detroit. Great modern twists on Southern comfort food. Stopped in on the recommendation of a chef at the Motor City Casino, he did not steer us wrong! Great food, and delicious drinks. I can't wait to go back.
Food is amazing. Everything on the menu looked delicious. We had a hard time choosing. Staff is friendly and attentive. Location is great. Dinner and drinks for four was reasonable.
I went to this restaurant with my husband for the first time. We were visiting from Toronto. The ambiance, service and food were amazing. I have heard of soul food but this was my first time having it. The portions were a good size and prices excellent. I have already recommended this place to friends. Will definitely go back when visiting Detroit again. Well done to the owners!
Savannah Blue rocks! Don't miss it when you're in Detroit! Our waitress, Jasmine, was such a sweetheart, but also fast, helpful, and professional. This is a very elegant restaurant but the prices are very reasonable. My ribs were some of the best I've ever had. Their sauce is killer. Their dishes are creative and beautifully presented. I highly recommend them in every regard!
This place is fabulous! Crab cake appetizer and grilled asparagus. A little James Brown playing in the background and Felicia keeping my wine glass full. Great experience. I only hope they keep my seat at the bar waiting for the next time I’m in Detroit, as this place will have a line out the door every night!
My friends and I ate here this weekend and the food was great! Each of us had something different and everyone was happy with their food. Service was friendly but we waited a long time to be served water for the table and never received refills. Other than that it was a pleasant experience and we will be back.
A tad on the expensive side, but this was a classy joint with a nice vibe. The food was good, just costs too much. I had fried catfish, mac n cheese, and yams plus a small cocktail. It was very loud and a little too dark. Overall though, it's a decent spot.
The food was good but, it was extremely loud and a tad bit dirty. Our server was great but her uniform was dirty. The table and menus were dirty too. I would suggest laminating them maybe and wiping them down throughout the shift. Keep some clean starched aprons in the back for people to change if they get dirty. The music was loud and the patrons were even louder. But overall food was great. I would patronize again in hopes of it not being so so loud. Noise level made me eat and leave instead of having dessert and drinks. Lastly, it is not business casual! I wasted an outfit and people were in there with sweats and gym shoes. Not so upscale but great food so I give it 4 stars.
Cons: The food was overpriced. Drinks were overpriced. They gave me salt and pepper shakers the size of quarters. Smh. Paid $10 to park next to the restaurant.
Pros: The waiters were handsome. The aesthetic was romantic and dim... candle light... I could have made a better tasting meal myself sadly. Sorry!!! Just keeping it real.
Seems improbable but I recently experienced one of the best meals of my life composed of blackened catfish and grits. The grits brought out and complimented the myriad flavors of the Cajun seasoning on the freshly fried fillets. A+ for the friendly service and funky Detroit themed decor. If you're ever near downtown Detroit definitely try this gem of a restaurant.
Visited this restaurant yesterday. The decor is cool and classy. Nice size bar and lounge area. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The dining area is a little tight but comfortable and it was a little noisy with the people mover passing by frequently (but that’s just a part of being downtown). My two friends both had the crab cake and said that it was delicious. I had the fried chicken, collards and mac & cheese. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the collards were good. I didn’t think it was possible for mac & cheese to be too cheesy but there was way too much cheese for my personal taste. Next time I’m in town I’m going to try the snapper, it looked really good.
The food was good and the service was excellent which really adds to the experience. This is a place I would recommend if you want a good dining experience. The dessert options left a little to be desired but the braised ox tails were awesome and the fried chicken was very good also. Certainly worth a visit. The cocktails could use a refresh but it’s difficult for any business to master food, service and great cocktails. The trifecta is still the gold standard.
Food was great service was slower than you would expect from a restaurant claiming to be top shelf. The darkness of the place took a little something from the happy mood we were in as we were meeting our god child for the first time. If you decide to visit this restaurant request a table near a window.
One of my favorites restaurants in Detroit. Everything I have tried on their menu has been outstanding and high-quality. The location is aesthetically pleasing and off the beaten path just the right amount. Would recommend the ox tail entree and catfish fritters for an appetizer. Also, the collared greens are amazing.
This restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but completely exceeded my expectations. The staff was super friendly and attentive, and handled my food allergies very well. Our waitress went above and beyond for me, and the food was DELICIOUS! If you're in the area and aren't sure where to go, this is the place!
Amazing food and staff! Fried chicken and fried catfish are not to be missed. Do yourself a favor and get the yams and collards as sides. Oh and the jerk wings were fantastic!
Off the charts DELICIOUS. Perfect cook on the veggies on grits. Brown sugar bacon was sweet and salty with just the right stiffness. Eggs cooked right to specification and flavored like a dream.
Husband had the best French toast I have ever tasted. Homemade whip cream had me salivating.
The food menu is excellent. We had a party of 8 who ordered a variety of things and everyone was pleased. The price may seem a little high, but the food is very good! I would definitely recommend for a date night or dinner with friends. There is a slight dress code, but nice jeans and a T-shirt are totally fine.
Food and drinks were great! Ambience is really cool too. Nice to see more and more hang out spots in Detroit. The night we went was pretty busy so the staff looked a little overwhelmed, but can't complain about the service.
This was my first time here. We were greeted by a gentleman at the door who allowed us to park right in front. The hostess was friendly as well. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. The food was delicious. Started with the crab cake appetizer, one of the best I've ever had. I chose the oxtail with cheesy risotto. I had a choice between asparagus or roasted carrots. I chose the roasted carrots. The meal was delicious and I plan to visit again
Tonight I joined four colleagues for a delicious dinner at Savannah Blue, at the urging of our Detroit born/raised host. I took the server’s recommendation of the Braised Oxtails w/ cheddar risotto & crispy vegetables. I did not regret that choice one bit and cleaned my plate! Everyone at the table enjoyed their dishes including fried chicken, whole red snapper, and crab cakes. My Sweet Tea was a nice complement to the main course. The Sweet Potato Pie was equally satisfying.
The Food was Delicious
My Waitress Jasmine was Friendly, Knowledgeable, and On Point
The setting was perfect for Date Night and Birthday Celebration.
My Husband and I Agreed that We Will Definitely Visit Again.
Did I Say The Food Was Delicious.
Good Portion of Food, depending on your Appetite, you will need a carryout container.
The minute We Entered the Building Everyone We Saw Greeted Us With A Smile. Clean, Calming, and Relaxing Atmosphere.
Greeting & wait staff were very friendly & attentive. Atmosphere was classic. Menu combination design was exciting, made you want to try everything!
To have the utmost experience....go on an empty stomach....then fill up on the tasty , uniquely flavored entrees.
Didn't sample the drinks, but the bar was full & wait staff was very busy.
Very good atmosphere and service. Excellent food at a fair price. Had the house dry rub wings, catfish fritters and the whole red snapper w/Savannah red rice. Excellent! Looking forward to my next visit. Will be trying the ox tails or shrimp and grits next.
We came here on my birthday and I ordered the braised oxtail as it had been so highly recommended by others. Well it was the worst meal ever! It arrived and was tough and leathery and inedible! I tried to cut it and it was rock hard! I told the waitress and she sent her manger over who took the meal away. He asked if I wanted something else and I declined. My family finished their meals while I sat there with them. Not once did the waitress or manager come back to apologize or ask if there was anything else they could do. This is an extremely poorly managed restaurant that is not customer centered. Do not waste your money!! Plus the view out the window faces a moving tram car that is quite un appetizing to look at, a view better suited for a diner type establishment! Really bad choice on our part!! I was severely disappointed!!
