How would you rate Kuzzos Chicken & Waffles?
Great food, great staff, especially Tete who was working the counter today. She is very freindly and efficient. The food is very consitant everytime I come here! Enjoy!
The food there is GREAT. I had the combo with the fish, chicken, cornbread, and two sides. Yum! The koolaid is not only pretty but delish. My only complaint would be our server. She wasnt attentive at all. At one point a coworker heard us complaining and told her to check in on us. We saw her all of 3 times(take order, drop off food, drop off checks) and she forgot my drink and it took half an hour for me to get it. Besides a crappy waitress the place was nice and food awesome. Ill go back, but maybe get take out or sit in a different section. Lol
Food was good, wait was awful especially since you have to pay to park. No one would give me change for the meter till a customers told me he had change. Server was nice but didn't come by often till we got our food after 1 and a half hours then we kinda felt like they was rushing us. But I'll most definitely go again, the food was to die for
Great food! Like Sunday dinner with koolaid included.
Alexis was very nice and helpful. Wait time was long but worth it. There seemed to be quite a few carryouts which probably caused some delays, but I believe that will be worked out soon.
I have tried to get into the restaurant since it opened but crowds have been tremendous. I decided to get there early and do a carry out. I placed my order and had to wait about 15 minutes. When I got home I discovered they had failed to give me two of the items ordered. I had to make a trip back to the restaurant to get the items.
I am writing this establishment off my list of places to go. I am very disappointed because I have waited to get there since I first saw the work being done to open Kuzzo's.
I will NEVER go back to Kuzzo's again ...first it was at least a 25 minute wait I heard one lady say who was waiting outside because there was no room inside, so we decided to get take-out which was by the restroom...smh...and it was hot by the restroom. Then after getting our order which didn't take long ...that was the ONLY good thing about Kuzzo's. Once we got home to eat the waitress forgot to give us our cornbread muffin and the food wasn't good. My chicken wing wasn't cook well and my candid yams wasn't sweet, my mac and cheese had no taste and my fried corn taste like they were mixed with can Mexican corn from the can. From all the hype about this place I wanted to try it but I won't be going back. Parking was horrible or the lack of. All I can say is go at your own risk!!
For its category, casual dining, it's a 5. Food is delicious, service good and employees friendly. I know chicken and this is good chicken.
I loved this place. It's small and I think that maybe we hit the lunch crowd so the wait was long and we had to continue to feed the meters. But I enjoyed the food TREMENDOUSLY. We had a little of everything. The prices are VERY reasonable, the staff is professional and friendly, and food was excellent. I'll definitely return again and again. I really hope that the quality of the food and the prices stay the same. I'm proud of this young brother and hope that he stays and for a very long time.
The food was awesome! Our waitress on the other hand, could have been a little bit better. But like i said the food was great and it made up for the bad service.
I went to Kuzzos for the first time yesterday since I've seen such good reviews. I got carry out.. so i had to wait by the restrooms to order since there is no particular take out ordering place. The food took about 30 mins. Once I got home.. which is about 2 mins from the restaurant... the food was warm, borderline cold. The waffle was soggy and the chicken was not crispy at all. I was very disappointing. I will never go here again. The portions were insulting as well. I felt completely ripped off.
After reading the reviews I was very skeptical about going here but since this is a new restaurant, I decided to give it a try today on a Tuesday. There was absolutely no wait when I went around 8. The food was amazing and the service was up to par. I ordered the What Up Doe (chicken, waffles, grits ) and it was awesome although the chicken wings were kind of scary big. Our waitress Carzzalyn was really nice and stayed on top of things. My only complaint is the loud music, you can barely hear yourself talk. But other than that I love this place and will be returning!
I usually don't take the time to do this, but based off the horrible experience I had today I felt it necessary. Today after my daughters graduation we decided to take our party to continue our celebration there. We did have a large party and expected to wait. The manager told us it would be a 35 minute wait. This was fine, however 35 minutes became an hour and a half. We spoke to the hostess that told us that because the way the seating was they didn't have any seating for our size party. This is after the wait and with the manager being aware the amount of people were with me. We asked to speak to the manager, which we also had to wait for. Once the manager finally came to speak to us he offered no apology and no empathy. Of course we left disappointed and went to IHOP. They accomodated us quickly and efficiently. I am fully aware that this is a new establishment. They will eventually get it together. Until then I will never go again.
the best waffle in michigan period! the chicken needs more salt. fried to a perfect golden brown but no flavor. large portions. will go back to try other options. menu was creative and prices very reasonable
The utensils were dirty.Out of red velvet waffles. The other waffles tasted like upscale eggos. The food was all processed nothing from scratch. Also I asked for a togo box with some extra butter not only do they use Land O lakes butter but the packet was already used. The location is completly dark not one street light or security guard very dangerous to be a female by yourself. To bad because the waiter was great and it really is a cozy place but I unfortunatly I will not be returning mainly because of unlit area with no type of security. The food was processed but its no different from Applebee's.
First time here, with my wife who suggested it based on her experience. I must say I was impressed. Young staff, yet very professional. Food came fast and hot and was delicious. The lemonade (kool-aid) was also very good. The portions were pass expectations and our waitress was nice and attentive. Mid-day, during the week is probably best time (not as busy). Overall we enjoyed our experience and will go again.
I arrived 15 mins after opening time on a Friday morning with a friend of mine. We told the host we would sit at the bar, she told us we had to wait to be seated. My friend & I looked at each other with confusion due to the fact that normally a bar is open seating. As she walked us to the bar with two menu's in her hand we told her that there would be one more person joining us shortly. She stated she could not sit us until our entire party had arrived. Instantly I was confused & agitated. We said "we're sitting at the bar, what do you mean? "Thats our policy" she stated with sarcasm in her voice. Mind you it isn't posted anywhere in the restaurant that you will not be seated until your ENTIRE party arrives. We sat in the waiting area until our other guest arrived to be seated. The restaurant wasn't very packed upon arrival but as time passed customers began to pour in. I was even more annoyed considering that at this moment there wasn't any seats left at the bar to accommodate 3 people as there had been earlier. We asked to speak to a manager. The hostess never went and got the manager. Once our other guest arrived reluctantly two people had just finished their meal & we asked a person sitting between two empty seats if he could move down one so that all 3 of us could sit together. Fortunately he cooperated. We asked our waitress for the manager to express our concerns. He came out & talked with us briefly & apologized for our inconvenience. Together we ordered red velvet waffles, chicken, cheese grits, home fries & mac & cheese. The food was really good, except for the mac & cheese, it was pretty bland if you ask me. They're pretty large portions, especially the whole wings, they look like they're on steroids, but they were still seasoned well & quite tasty. I did not finish my entire meal. I was full pretty quickly. Overall good food, poor customer service from (Hostess) her attitude is very poor, & unprofessional.
This place is overrated and way overpriced. The only good thing about it is the exterior. I ordered a kuzzo long island and the big mama which totaled $27. My long island was basically kool aide and the food was not hot. The cheese wasnt even melted on my mac and cheese. I love supporting local businesses, but you guys definitely have some work to do. I didnt even eat all of my meal. Sadly l dont think l will eat here again.
Not Worth The Money Nor The Long Wait! This Resturant Is Overly Hyped!
People i am a lover of waffles, so when i see an establishment that specializes in waffles throw my wallet at them lol. But this place does not sale waffles (at least not in the Belgian form that most people are used to). You'd be better off going to the grocery store and buying some frozen Pillsbury Waffles because they are actually thicker and the box is the same price as one of their waffles (which is $3.50 by the way).
After learning about the Horrible Misprint of "Dark and Lovely Combo" not being $7 but $11 as other reviewers have noted (which still has not been edited on the menu by the way), i decided that i just wanted 2 waffles. And do you know how much they charged me for 2 waffles with berries on top? $10.60!!!
I waited 30 minutes for these 2 waffles. When i finally got them and opened up the box, they were flat like pancakes. Now people, as a connoisseur of waffles I know if there are different types, but generally when you are a waffle restaurant you only sell Belgian waffles. I demanded a refund. Why would I pay $10.60 for waffles that are the size and thickness of Pancakes?!
P.S. who positions a carryout section right in from of the restrooms (which are one person occupied bt the way)?! I'm surprised i kept my appetite sitting there waiting on my order when person after person entered and exited the restroom leaving behind their funk.
Awful customer service and attitudes in general!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was told 15 minutes for a carry out. Nothing out of the ordinary; Chicken and Waffles and shrimp; that is the name! I waited over 45 minutes. First, no fruit, then no potatoes then " oh we are waiting on the shrimp" I finally asked for a manager. No acknowledgments or apologies as I watched people come in, order, eat and prepare to leave. Sorry, piss poor service. And got upset that I asked for a manager, who was too young, immature and inexperienced. This was my first and last time. I left without food. 8/1/15
Good food! Good prices. Some the wait is long. The bloody mary drinks are good but not worth $12 they charge. Nice spot.
I came here for the first time today 9.10.15 and I really like this place. The place was packed but I got seated quickly by the hostess at the bar. I told the bartender I was new and she helped me out a lot with ordering the right meal. She was super nice. although I was there by myself, the people were so welcoming that I didn't feel alone. My food was good. I had two drumsticks, a waffle, and a side of bacon. Either I was really hungry or everything tasted so good. I never finish meals usually when out eating but i cleaned my plate. Prices were reasonable. I will definitely be going back and bringing my friends.
All staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Red velvet waffles, chicken, and the blue koolaid was amazing. You get a crazy amount of food for a low price. Definetly need to go there at least once!! (My new favorite place)
Well....I went yesterday.....long story short is was EXTREMELY noisy, i couldn't hear myself speak, my friend who was sitting right across for me speak, or even our waitress speak. Constantly had to repeat ourselves, saying "huh??? What did you say????" Over and over
To the food: the Kool aid drink were really good, I love that they were in the mason jars, Really big!! I got the "tender love" meal......the chicken was ok....not great, not nasty but ok. The waffle on the other hand....I could've went without, really. Very thin, has cinnamon in it (which they don't state, nor do I like cinnamon) and the waffle itself had no taste, the only thing you taste was cinnamon! Straight cinnamon.... the syrup was very thin and watery, didn't taste how maple syrup usually does......
So the best part of it was the kool-aid, and I'm not even a big kool-aid drinker in general....prices wasn't too bad so I'm not too mad about the food being nasty, but idk if I'd go there again...if I did, I'd stay away from those nasty waffles. ....
Great Food (Large Portions I Can Never Finish My Food,Bomb Koolaide)& Good Customer Service! Kinda On The Noisey Side But I Will Definitely Go Back. No Complaints
Never got seated, hostess Tasha refused to let my wife and I sit and wait for a booth. When a booth was available she rudely sat another couple ahead of us. When I called to inform a manager or owner she hung up on me. Called back, she said the manager was busy. I have sent numerous friends and clients to Kuzzos CW. My first and last visit. #NoMore
Very good chicken but my waiter was horrible she had a very bad attitude and on top of that my chicken and waffles came out before my eggs. She brought my food out and walked away and didn't say a few more minutes on your eggs I waited for 5 minutes for 2 fried eggs. I can't stand bad customer service one of my biggest pet peeves.
The service in this place is ridiculous. Called to make aa carry out, was told I had to come in. Go there and was told that carry outs were made in the back. There is a row of chairs outside the bathrooms. A waitress came by after 5 minutes and asked of I was placing an order. I said yes and she said okay and walked off. Didn't offer a menu or anything. 15 minutes later she still hadn't returned. Several waitresses walked past without offering assistance. I got fed up and left. I won't waste my time again.
I loved the food. So much food I had to take a doggie bag home. Clean, friendly atmospere and friendly hostess and patrons. I love the place.
Food was great definitely was good. Con's the wait is long which is expected at any chicken and waffle spot BUT there is no where to sit barely. Older people was standing up with barely any standing room. That's just unacceptable for the elderly. They need better sitting arrangements for those who have to wait for a hour. Also, was not greeted when I first walked in like most professional restaurants didn't know until ten minutes of standing that you had to give the hostess your name. She slacked by not telling many people & it made some people leave. Need better knowledge as how to be professional! However, my waitress was very sweet she did come often to check on us & the bus boy was great. He checked on us as well. I would give a 5 star based on my food waitress & busser only but since the professionalism lacked the business it self gets 3 stars.
Absolutely loved the food. I ordered a carry out. They told me 15 minutes I got there in 10. It was coming out fresh. I took my food home and it was really good. The chicken was crispy and seasoned perfectly. I love it. They need a bigger building cause it was packed to capacity. Good food=Loyal customers. I will go back again!
Popularity is a two edged sword. This place was over run with folks trying to get in. We had a party of 11. The wait was longer than expected however, tolerable.I guess that's what happens when your one of the hottest restaurants in the D. Our server was on point. She was was nice, attentive and accommodating. The food was tasty. Our party had a little of everything. Chicken and Waffles, Shrimp and Grits, Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles and the Blue LemonadeKool Aid and Mimosas were kicking . The portions were very generous. All plates were brought out hot. Overall great experience and great environment. I probably wouldnt go with as big a party but I will return again with a smaller group. Check it out ! Another hidden Gem in the D
Went to visit not to long ago. I had the shrimp and grits, wasn't all that. I intend on going back to try something else. The bathroom reeked of marijuana from one of the employees taking a break and the service could use some improvements.
The host was was rude and unprofessional. I can't remember her name, but was really rude. The place was crowded, so must have been frustrated. I was told my family of 4 couldnt get a booth, because booths are for families of 5. And was rudely seated at a small table. I was pissed, but that changed quickly because our waitress was so AMAZING! I cant remember her name either and the food was AWESOME!
Long wait was worth the wait in the end. Casual family dining spots like this are hard to find outside of the Downtown/Midtown area... Let me add that I read the low ratings and while everyone is entitled to thwir opinions, I would hope that black folk would try to understand that the wait time is what it is because of the establishments popularity. If you didn't enjoy your food selection...try something different next time but don't just say "horrible...I'll never go back there again..." We have had the same type of experiences at other restaurants yet we give them second chances...IJS As for the takeout waiting area being next to the restrooms...where would you expect the restrooms to be? By the kitchen? Come on people.
Food is great!!! Customer service is above average, that's not a bad thing. My reason for 4 out of 5 stars is the no call in carry out, when you have newborns you want to be in and out. GIVE PEOPLE CALL IN CARRY OUT!!
-A hardworking father
I tried the Chicken And Waffles. Not the best I have had. The waffles are missing a rich flavor to make it unique and a desirable place to want to return to. The chicken and syrup was on point. Overall the dish was still good. I would go back again. I love to see these kinds of small businesses grow in Detroit.
I had TWO terrible experiences ( I always give a sec chance, everybody has off days). Both were terrible. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL.....Slow and the food is always cold. I wont say the food is aweful, because that would not be the total truth. Im just saying that after finding a parking spot, waiting to be seated, waiting on your food, then getting cold food......the food should taste DELICIOUS...well it don't. It was alright though.....Well, It was an experience lol.
Chicken is the bomb, waffles are not so great. Kool-aid on point but customer service is TERRIBLE. Half the staff attitudes are just beyond horrible. Me and my mother waited 10 minutes just to place a carryout order, it was about 5 people standing around. We asked can we be helped they said "well the carryout girl will be out in a minute" which was a lie. So 9 minutes later she came and placed our order and she said it would be "15-20 minutes" which is standard wait time. That was a lie, we waited 50 minutes for our food 😒, just horrible. We finally got our order and left, got home they forgot the eggs. On top of that the staff was arguing in the kitchen, just ghetto. The staff and manager is TRAGIC.
Food was cold when i got it im highly upset because no one answer there phone and this isnt ny first time eating there before food was great and warm i dont understand but somebody should be giving me a free meal i spent 50 dollars and left a nice tip for a carryout and i only stay around the corner its noway my food should be cold
Food was great! Waitress was nothing less than great! Great customer service. Only thing that turned me off was the hostess. You could tell she was ready to close up shop. Everything else was perfect! Clean, nice, fresh food!
Arrived on a Sunday morning at 10:15am...was told there would be a reasonable 25 minute wait for 4 people. We were seated in less than 10 minutes!
Our waitress was kind and patient, and our waters were always full.
3 of us ordered the same thing: The Big Red ($12) - excellent. Comes with an enormous amount of food: A fluffy red velvet waffle with powdered sugar and cream cheese topping. The "frosting" was perfectly buttery and not too sweet. Joining a side of bourbon syrup, I would have been content with just this. The Big Red also comes with your choice of 3 wings or tenders. I ordered the tenders. Also comes with a side!! I ordered the mac n' cheese.
The items were fantastic, and the meal was delightful. While busy, our waitress was attentive and the food was delicious. The ranch here is one of the best I've had...and I love ranch dressing.
Our waitress was accommodating with everyone's cards, and even brought us all boxes and bags. We placed a carry out order and it was ready in less than 10 minutes.
Kuzzo's has it all: Excellent food, high quality service, and reasonably priced. Even if you have to wait, it's worth it.
Love this place! Not too many soul food places around unfortunutely. Glad Kuzzo's openned. Their doing a really great job. Love their Kool Aid jug cup lemonades and their food.
I came in on a Saturday evening around 6 and was immediately seated, to start off I had the suicide Koolaid which was to die for! Our food was served in a timely fashion and EVERYTHING WAS BOMB!!! Everything was seasoned to perfection! I had wings, a waffle, &Mac and cheese.my boo got fries and they were so fresh and seasoned so good I couldn't stop eating them out of his basket! 😂 & it was all for a fair price. Needless to say,I will be going back &I I am totally satisfied.
This all bad my family owns this place. Bad service bad food but good kool-aid. Not worth my time or money. They should be aslame.
I'm biased because the owner went to my college but this place is growing. Service can be better but it has gotten better since the first time I went when it first opened. Great Wall art and he food is good. Not greasy chicken but prepared properly.
I love this place, anytime it's not crowded (happy hour times). Love anything they make that is fried, and they're drinks are awesome! I'll pass all day long on their pancake/waffle. The service... It's friendly, it's casual. It's not great!
Food and service was excellent. A big shout out to Val our server! She was awesome. The Bloody Mary was good and probably would of ordered another but out of pickles😩. Will definitely recommend and return again. One negative bathroom was out of hand soap..
My lunch as tasty. The service was mediocre. The waitress took it upon herself to keep my spare change as well as my co-workers after we paid our bills. Who does that??? We did not make a bid deal out of it. I guess she needed my .50cent, plus my co-workers. Keep in mind we did tip her in spite having "OK" service. Her position was tacky and distasteful. I will make sure I EXACT change if I decide to go back.
Great food, good atmosphere. Come early or late, but you may have to wait, but worth it. Would be better if you could call in or go online for carry out.
The staff were professional, clean and kind. The wait was OK ,yet I was very dissatisfied with the food. The overly large piece of chicken that I received was not cooked properly the waffle was thin and flimsy. The koolaid was let's just say that if you're a diabetic don't do it.And finally when I tried to call about the under cooked food the number listed was of no use.Not to rain on all the reviews but I won't believe the hype ever again.
Oh man, chicken and waffles. I had gotten over the odd combination a while back. "Is it breakfast? Lunch? Dinner?" All of these. Yes. This is a genius idea - the ability to sell this meal at every time of day.
Of course I gave it a shot the first time I went there! They have these bright red "red velvet" waffles which are really quite good, and the fried chicken is some of the best I've had.
This is definitely "sometimes food because if I were to come here more often, my waistline would suffer.
The food was great, chicken was crispy and moist. The wait was long but luckily we were able sneak into the bar. I got the red velvet waffle with cream cheese, my boyfriend got a regular chicken and waffle plus the shrimp and grits. He said the shrimp and grits were good, flavorful, but wouldn't say the best he's ever had. Would definitely go back for the chicken and waffles though
The food is excellent. Service, not so much. I no longer live in Detroit but I feel like it's a must to support small businesses. However, Kuzzo's service is making it hard for me.
The food tastes like there is a team of grandmothers in the back cooking. The customer service on the other hand is horrific. Currently, I've been standing in the lobby with other patrons for at least 30 minutes without anyone being seated. The bar is almost completely empty but no one has cleared away previous customers plates. The same is true for the dining hall.
Also, the staff isn't as welcoming as I'd expected. Everyone seems to have an attitude about something. I almost feel like maybe the attitude is apart of the repertoire the restaurant is trying to portray.
I've rated them 3 stars because the food is excellent but the service is ridiculously horrible.
Food: 5 stars
Service: 0 stars
Long wait for weekday brunch during the holidays. Well worth it. Big portions of delicious fried chicken and waffles, and full menu of fantastic breakfasts. One of Detroit's best places to eat when you're hungry.
The wait was 45min to an hour. When we finally sat down the food took honestly 40 min to receive. The grits I ordered were cold chicken was rubbery. I should've told them to cook it crispy. Our waitress was extremely nice and helpful. Overall it wasn't worth the wait or the price at all.
I came to visit family from Florida and tried this place and the food was good. The server was very friendly and suggested the tenders and waffles and the food was very good. Nexttime I am in Detroit I have to most definitely come back to this place.
I love this place!! I arrived just after they opened at 8am. So no waiting! The red velvet waffles and chicken was excellent..added pecans. I tasted around the table .. fries beautifully seasoned. Grits .. wonderful. Friendly service. A+ in my book.
Food is great. Wait staff is nice but extremely slow. Perhaps it was just the day we went, but it was very crowded and cramped. Took a long time to get service and our food. Still recommend going but maybe not on the weekends?
Nice music, great food and atmosphere. 100%
Delicious. I moved from Atlanta to Michigan a year ago and walking into Kuzzo's was a little bit like coming home. I got the Big Red -- a red velvet waffle, cream cheese spread, three chicken tenders and a side of mac and cheese (unabashedly greasy and delectable). I went with a group of five at peak brunch time on a Saturday and it took us an hour to get seated. Then another hour to get food + waters. They were packed! (And the hostess forgot about us... she had us wait in the back. If that happens to you, be sure to check every so often with the front). I will gladly wait 2+ hours for a chicken biscuit at Buttermilk in Atlanta, but for Kuzzo... come earlier or as a party of two and ninja your way into quick bar seating.
2nd visit. The Big Mama is my favorite. The atmosphere is great the staff is relatively friendly.... but they could most certainly use some organization as to how they run getting people seated and when they are staffed lighter than the traffic can handle. Pack your patience!
Much has improved here service wise. Food is still incredible. They just need more space. Very popular attraction.
This place was great! Great food, ambiance, music, and crowd. The service was extremely friendly.
The chicken was a bit inconsistent. Slightly too greasy.
Overall it was great!
Food was really good and the staff was very attentive. Ordered the chicken tenders and waffles and a side order of cheesy grits. Food came out quick and was hot and delicious. I had been there once before and waited over 2 hours and never got a chance to eat. This time the wait was short and we were seated promptly. Really enjoyed myself.
My two sons tried to go for breakfast and waited for 45 minutes outside because it was so crowed. They kept checking every 20 minutes to see if their name was called. Finally my son went back in to check and they told him that they had already called their name and would not seat them. My older son was furious. There was a guy that was standing there who may have been the owner did absolutely nothing to resolve the matter. This was not the first time he has bad service. They went to 1917 Bistro instead had a wonderful breakfast. Kuzzo you have lost our business.
Food was very good! Service not so good. After waiting 45 minutes to be seated. Then 20 minutes to order my food, then waited another 45 minutes for my food. My waitress came to my table maybe twice ,she left for the day without letting our table know. Next time I will get a carry out.
This place is a death of pleasant surprise. The food is very good, the portions of very nice, the price is not too exorbitant, and I love the menu. The service is a little slow, and can be patchy at times, but not in an excessive way. Did have to ask for my beverage to be refilled a couple of times and it took a while for them to get done, but the food was excellent. Highly recommend the shrimp and grits, and the red velvet chicken and waffle.
Wow the food was amazing. The What Up Doe was huge and delicious. Great value. My girlfriend had the red velvet waffle, which she said was the best waffle she had ever had. Some of the best fried chicken I have had, and I have eaten fried chicken all over the USA. This is right up there with Nashville and New Orleans as to how good it was. Great and fast service as well. I live close by will be back, don't sleep on this spot for great soul food.
Great dining experience! Excellent food and service. Kyra was our server and she was quick with taking our order and bringing our cooked to perfection, hot meal! We will definitely come again! Loved it 😁😊
Okay, I finally gave this restaurant a chance , I am not sure if it's part of the business plan or not but they treat you like a distant cousin. First we had to wait 40 minutes to be seated and then we waited another 40 minutes to recieve our food. We ordered the What up doe, The chicken was cold with little seasoning. The service from Dionne was like going over to mean old auntie house after she argued with your drunk, cheating uncle. There is no rush to go back.
The atmosphere was great.
My mother and I drove from Ohio to Michigan and decided to stop at Kuzzo's because of how delicious the food looked on their Instagram page. The food was decent but the service was horrible. We had a party of two and were told we had to wait for a booth to be cleared, yet another party of two came in after us and were seated immediately. After we were seated, we waited 30 min before someone even came to take our order! Then we waited another 45 min for our actual food to come out. Our waitress was polite but we rarely saw her. The food itself was decent, we both ordered the Trey- Deuce and the best part of the meal were the waffles, which were average at best. The chicken was sub-par due to the fact it tasted like it was just dropped in the fryer with no seasoning. I do not think we will stop here again on our next visit to Detroit.
I loved this place. We visited on a trip to the D and wasn't let down. They had a line almost out the door so I was nervous about the wait. However they sat mu husband and I within 15 minutes. My food was fresh, hot, and delicious. The waffles didn't need syrup in my opinion and the chicken was seasoned well and was very crunchy. Out server was very busy but she was polite and professional. All and all I have nothing but wonderful things to say about our experience.
It was my first time eating there. I sat at the bar to have breakfast. The waitress was very nice and down to earth. Good conversations and good vibe. The food was Awesome!! I ordered shrimps and grits with fried catfish. The flavoring was delicious. To top it all off, their kool aid was so refreshing. Good food, good people and good vibes!
This was my second time, and my husband's first time eating here! He gave them 4 stars from the atmosphere alone!! After our food came, in a timely manner I must say, he then gave them 6 plus stars!!! Keep up the great work!! #WeSupportBOBs
The waiting is horrible. You see empty tables everywhere and you still have to wait a long time. I noticed that every time I go to a black owned restaurant its so much disorganization.
Really good food and friendly staff. We got here earlier in the morning (around 9am) and got right in! Breakfast was great, we each had grits, fried chicken, eggs, potatoes and toast with a waffle on the side and it was all good (and reasonably priced). Thanks!
My first time here. I LOVED IT.! Best eggs I've ever had at a restaurant . Waffle was beautiful I thought I was going to need extra syrup when I saw the little bit it came with but nope, not at all. Chicken was good too. Best breakfast hands done.
After trying my best to patronize this business ( as it is black owned) for the fourth time, I am once again disappointed. My first visit, i was charged twice on my credit card, the food was good, but service was very slow. I was told to come back to get my extra money that was taken. I was offered no apologies, just had my money handed to me by a manager and he hurried off. The 2nd and 3rd visits were identical, we were able to be seated after awhile, the food was good, but the customer service was awful as usual and it took FOREVER to get the food with no apology. Today was the last straw, same thing long wait, seated and ordered but this time after a whole hour after ordering no food arrived. We just decided to leave. The waitress comes out to say your food is coming now...we can box it for you. I declined. I've certainly tried my best to be supportive of this business, but as usual especially and sadly with the black businesses Ive tried to support, they've been a let down due to the lack of customer service, and the humility to apologize to a customer in efforts to possibly rectify an issue to keep that customer coming back. I definitely would not recommend bringing your business here.
Food was good, service was not. My husband and I arrived at 1pm the hostess took our name and number to text us when our seat would be available she said 35 minutes. It was busy, so we left and went for a walk. Returned around 30 minutes later. Hostess was seating people that came after us. I asked if she seated people according to number of people or when they came in. She said when they come in. We waited for over an hour to be seated. The tables were being bussed slowly which makes for a longer wait and then you wait for your food. It was after 3 before we finally ate. The food is great and I probably would not be upset if we were given the correct wait time. And if the hostess seated people according to when they arrived instead of how many were in their party
They need better management.
Fantastic food, great friendly service (Angie is the best, really knows customer service). We were there for weekday brunch, no wait for anything!! We were told that it's packed on the weekend. So be forewarned... Choose some other time if you don't want to wait... I would come back anytime I'm in the area. Had shrimp and grits... Delicious!!!
First time at Kuzzo's & I had a pretty good experience. I had a craving for a red velvet waffle, which was 💣. Next time, I go I will get chicken tenders and not chicken wings...chicken wings aren't the "brown" they were on the lightly fried side...not the darker brown fry that that I like to see & were a little greasy too. Overall, I was pleased. Grits were creamy... I was happy.
I had the Tweety Bird combo. They gave the best waffle I have ever had in ANY restaurant, and I wish I bought a second one. The chicken was fine, and piping hot too. The only annoyance? The wait time. I came around 1 or 2pm on a Friday, and the place was crammed; it's a bit cramped too, so you might not want to bring more than a group of 4 people total. Would definitely like to go again, though.
The service was very poor! Our waitress was not friendly at all and she seemed to be very distressed! You can tell our waitress did not like her job and could not handle how busy it was! The table was very sticky as if it had not been wiped down at all! When I asked to move to another table, I was told the other tables are being reserved. Two stars are only because the food was delicious but I will not be going back any time soon if ever again!
The service here is very slow from waiting to be seated to actually receiving your food. If you are in a rush or on a time schedule do not come here. It's best to come early before 11ish to beat the crowd. Very small but a nice welcoming atmosphere. I've tried many dishes and my favorite is the red velvet waffle with the chicken tenders. Everything is pretty good. The wings are good but slightly big in size. Look-aid is too sweet for me. The naming of the dishes are very unique and it's definitely worth it for the price.
The service here is EXTREMELY SLOW!! The host "Britt" is very rude and not accommodating. We were seated at a table near the door. Before anyone took our order, we asked to be moved to a table away from the door and she said "you can not move because it causes confusion between the waiters." As we ended our meal, I watched Britt move a couple to a different table just as we had requested. We waited an hour and twenty three minutes before we received any food.
After it was all done, Benta (Lead Server), apologized for the unpleasant experience and promised to make sure that no other patrons have the same experience.
The service is terrible. Just left and did not spend my money. We waited for 15 minutes nobody came to take our order. We had to get the manager to get her back to the register to place our order. A woman, was waiting for her change and receipt. She never got her receipt after being rude to the lady. I refused to order at that point because she was very disrespectful to the lady and myself. She went to get her manager after I requested she do so. I talked to the manager about how long we was waiting just to place and order, all to get attitude back from the lady taking an order. She rudely interrupted and told her boss; “this is the bad one I was telling you about.” He didn’t seem to care blew off my issue and asked if I wanted to order. I said no and I left. This whole staff needs to be retrained or fired. Nobody seems to know what they’re doing every time coming into this restaurant. Even after you can’t take orders over the phone, this is how black owned businesses do you every time you come there. Never will return again!!
Soul Food Restaurant in Detroit, Michigan. People talk about great server, shrimp and grits and great food and service.
We where visiting a friend in town who wanted to check the place out. So, I decided to give it a shot ...
Walked out fat and happy.
If you’ve ever tried the unlikely pairing of chicken and waffles, you understand the appeal. It’s a delectable union of sweet and salty, soft and crunchy, maple and… chicken? I realize it might sound strange to the uninitiated. As somebody who has repeatedly enjoyed this improbable creation, I must insist– don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. Chicken and waffles are a dynamic culinary duo.
The atmosphere was nice however the food was just ok. My meal experience started off with a beverage meant to make your A1C level go through the roof. It was so sweet that even after pouring out half of the lemonade and adding two cups of water, it was still sickeningly sweet. The waffle and fish were delicious. The chicken would've been better with the feathers removed. It's that attention to detail that is appreciated by the customers. The prices were fine but I was honestly expecting the meal to be better.
My experience started at the door with the hostess and it was poor. Food was delicious. Only thing that didn't sit well with me was the hostess did not treat us equally as everyone else I watched her seat. When we walked in she looked at us as if we were interrupting her. I told her we needed a table for 3 and she pointed to the dinning area. I asked "So we just seat ourselves?" Ok cool. But everyone else who came through the door after us was properly seated with menus by the hostess. I was very put off by this experience even though my server was great and the food was good.
I've been sold on the New Eatery Center (or New Center Eatery whichever) for a while now. Heard a lot about Kuzzo's finally decided to give it a try. We definitely were not disappointed. The food was slappin'. The chicken was seasoned to perfection and the waffle although not Belgium, had a really good flavor and were a nice size. We definitely got more bang for our buck at Kuzzo's. The service was average. Ladies were nice but for them not to be that busy the service could have been better. Also good luck on parking!
I went on a Thursday morning. There wasn't a wait which isn't normal for this place. My waitress Dime was very friendly and attentive. I tired the "what up doe" combo. The chicken is juicy! This portion was too big for one sitting for me personally but great for sharing. This breakfast and tea set me back $19...not bad for the portion size.
Been a few times and there is usually a 15-30min wait no matter what time of day, that isn't much of an issue if the experience is worth it to me. They offer a text service when your table is ready allowing you to visit the local shops and gives you a 3min grace period when your table is ready. All the drinks (alcoholic and non) I've had are good. As far as food I've only had some variation of chicken and waffles the times I've visited and though the chicken is always good I like firm waffles and no matter how long you ask them to leave them in they are always somewhat soggy and limp. Aside from that my only other issue is the Greeter/Host. The older lady is rude, callous and doesn't do much in a way to even make you feel welcome. So much so to the point I actually left as opposed to spending my money there last time.
I went about 10:30 a.m. able to walk right in be seated the hostess greeted me with smile and friendly. Waited for my order ten minutes, the establishment was clean, I liked that the manager Kay walked around to see if service was satifying and my waitress Sydney was professional and polite. Over all my first time experience was wonderful and the food was excellent.
I’ve gone twice. First time was middle of the day and we were served in a timely manner. The waitress came around maybe once after our food was served and then it was difficult to find her to get our bill. I had the chicken tenders and they were great! The Mac n cheese left much to be desired. This 2nd time I walked in about 40 minutes to close. Rather than just turning me away at the door or telling me we could only do take out, they sat me. I waited and waited for a server to come but nothing. After flagging one down she told me they were about to close but she would take my order. I told her I could just get take out if that was better and she told me no problem they’d serve me. I waited and waited for my drinks but nothing. Very disappointing to see no staff around.
The food is great. The service sucks...hard. the servers never smile. They only come to the table 3 times. First for drinks and orders. 45 minutes to an hour later to bring food. And, third to bring the check. Never for refills or to make sure the food is ok. Never a smile. It was bad the first time i was there. I gave them a second chance because the food is good, even though it was brought to the table barely lukewarm on the first occasion. With a different server, the second time, the service was bad. In the future I'll do carryouts only. Never a tip...unless they smile.
I came back because my husband want to try this place. It took 5 minutes for someone to offer to take out carryout order at the carryout counter. The server behaved as though we were bothering her. So the service is just as bad as it was before. The employees don't smiles. I also believe in restaurants the kitchen is only as clean as the bathroom. Because, the bathroom is what customers see. If they are willing to let customers see this, then I'm concerned about the kitchen.
Great food! Terrible service. Total indifference to the customer and what we should mean to a business. The waitress forgot part of my order and in the process if trying to bring it to her attention we were net with rude and down right " I don't give a dam" attitudes. The manager was just as bad. You all have to do better. You can't ask us to spend our hard earned dollars and be treated rudely.
Visited Detroit for my birthday in October last year. I can say nothing but great things! This restaurant was wonderful. The customer service was superb and so were the food and drinks. Definitely a must go to everytime I'm in Motown 😙
Waited 45-60minutes to be seated... Then waited another 35-40 minutes before being waited on!! Finally after taking our order, another 2 hours!!! Then... They ran out of chicken!!!? (Hence chicken and waffles the name!!)
Then!!! They ran out of candied Yams!!
NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN!!! I WOULDN'T CARE IF THEY WAS GIVING AWAY THE FOOD!!!
I've only been one other time which was when it first opened...wait for seating and food was tooo long over 3 hrs. This time we were seated kind of fast but wait for food was very long. The people at the table next to us waited over and hour for their food and told me they would not be back. Service needs work....the food was good but after waiting so long for it could be because I was starving.
1st impression..... Absolutely amazing!!!! The wait was a little long for the food, but it assures me that everything is made fresh to order, and was definitely worth the wait. The chicken wings were a satisfying size, and had ZERO feathers left on it. That tells me that they clean the chicken very well before cooking. And the waffles.... had to be made from Heavenly Manna. By far some of the best waffles, if not the best waffles, I've ever tasted. And topping them with the Natural Maple Syrup put it over the top. Definitely making another trip to this wonderful Jewel of the city.
Today I wanna talk about Chicken & Waffles, never had em before, together that is with eggs and syrup! I'm blown away! Absolutely delicious! Thank goodness there's not a place close by I know about that serves this delectable treat!
I stopped by Kuzzo's while visiting Detroit recently. It was a great choice for my first taste of this combination. Everyone here was so friendly and helpful, mind you they chuckled a bit when they found out it was going to be a first for me. The waffles were out of this world! The chicken was super crispy on the outside & oh so tender & juicy on the inside! Covered in syrup, it was incredible! Oh, and did I mention the sweet tea & lemonade? I've been missing out, seriously! Anyway, the food was delicious, I can't wait to come back,
Great food!!! Popular place so expect a wait for seating and food to come out! Some of the best waffles I've ever had. You'll enjoy every aspect except parking. They really need a bigger lot with the amount of traffic they have.
Horrible experience! I visited this past Saturday along with two other guests. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, they came out too thick and very hard, not cooked completely. Then when it was time to order our meal, we were told they were out of yams and cornbread. The waitress said we could wait for cornbread but it will be a while because the cook had to go next door to find the recipe or we can have toast because they were out of biscuits too. We ordered our food and when it came out the chicken breast was dry, the greens were full of stems which made up of half the bowl, and they gave us half bowls of corn because they ran out, then under cooked crunchy rice. When time to leave they gave us a small plastic pie container and some small bowls to put our food in because they ran out of carry out containers. I was totally disappointed with this visit and will not be going back. The waitress did the best she could but the manager and the cook were acting as if it was nothing and was not trying to accommodate us for the 3 hours of a horrible experience.
Everything was fantastic! I had the 3 piece and 2 waffles. Chicken was tasty, hot and crunchy. Waffles were great also. The rainbow koolaid was really sweet and a good deal. My friend had the shrimp and grits, they said it was awesome. Great place to go for any time of day. Would definitely go back again.
Chicken and waffles are excellent. Salmon Cakes also very good. Nice atmosphere and good music. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because we arrived at 11am was told there was a 25 minute wait. We got a table in 47 minutes but that was not a big deal. It was the 1 and 20 minutes it took to get our food and another hour on top of that to get our bill and cash out.. Also our server only filled our drinks once and that was only after being asked repeatedly during the 3-4hrs we were there. She didn't check to see if we needed anything the entire time nor could we see her on the floor. For this reason I won't be returning. If I lived nearby instead of over 2hrs away it would be a different story.
Each time I’ve visited the food has been good. Nice atmosphere, really nice pictures, paintings and art work. Restaurant is on the smaller side so it’s usually always a wait. They’ve recently added a bar as well. The chicken and waffles, known as the what up doe is the signature meal. Also, make sure you get the 3 flavor look aid. It’s super sweet, but just add some water. The last time we visited, they were out of catfish.
I’m only giving 3 stars because the food is so good if it wasn’t I would give 1. The service is terrible, there is always a wait of 45 minutes or more and they don’t do call in orders. I could understand not excepting call in orders if the wait wasn’t always extremely long. The servers always look annoyed and barely speak to you unless you behave rudely. If you are quiet they skip right over you. Maybe the service staff is frustrated because there is always so many people who are irritated because they have been waiting on their food for nearly a hour... That can be fixed if management allowed call in orders. That way you can get in and out. The food is really good though. But it’s not worth all the frustration.
Chicken is crispy and moist on the inside, some of the best chicken I've had in the metro area. Prices are reasonable and food is delicious! My only complaint would be that the chicken doesn't perfectly complement the waffles the way some places do the spices. But separately both the chicken and the waffles were spectacular so they come together very well.
Great food, service, beverages, staff, and location. I didn’t have to pay for parking or walk too far from my car to the restaurant. The wait was a bit lengthy, about 45 minutes. It was so worth it for the chicken and waffles. This is my go to place for chicken and waffles. And the Kool-Aid is really good.
I LOVED THE FOOD!! It taste just like momma made it. The service was fantastic!! Shanae was the bartender and Janeen was the host they were awesome!! If I’m ever back in Detroit I’ll definitely be back hands down.
Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning and had a great meal. The chicken is delicious and cooked really well. The waffles though were very good and definitely worth getting. A few people I went with got the hot chocolate and were raving about it as well. This is definitely a good place.to check out to get some great food, especially if you're a big fan of chicken and waffles.
Great place for Chicken and Waffles. I cant remember the bartender name but she's definitely awesome and know her stuff. I always try not to go on Sundays because they are extremely busy but other than that great place for food and alcohol beverages.
I do understand that it was a Sunday however a 40 minute turned into an hour and 20 minute wait. Once we were seated it took 10 minutes for our server to come to our table and another ten for drinks. It literally took 55 minutes for us to get our entree's (chicken and waffles) which by that time I barely wanted it and it was average at best. Definitely not going back to Kuzzo's chicken and waffle the entire experience was horrible.
This is the Best Chicken and Waffles spot I've ever been to, PERIOD. Nice balance good flavor. the shrimp and Grits Fabulous. i can't wait to come back to Detroit and stop in again.
I understand that it was Sunday but we waited 1hour and thirty minutes to be seated then an additional thirty minutes to see a server. After we ordered we didn’t see our server again until she was coming out with our food and drinks. I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was cold, others in my party had cold food as well. The bill was wrong by 7 dollars. This meal was a disaster. maybe takeout next time
Food was tasty, definitely not bad. The wait time was the trouble an hour for tenders and pancakes with grits. Other than very family oriented mom and pop restaurant. Nice kick back!
Worse service I have ever experienced in my life. My eggs were cold with no cheese and the grits had no cheese. The chicken and waffles were still good. This was my second time I went there. This experience is far worse than the first time. The server had an attitude and the food took an hour to come out. Very disappointing visit. I won't go back for a very long time. If I could give it less than one star I would.
The food is great, but the service is god-awful. It's bad enough for me to knock off two stars from what is otherwise a 5-star review.
Wait for food takes forever, and that's if you get seated within a reasonable time. Second visit here, we were told it would be a 25 minute wait. An hour and a half later, we left when it looked like the wait to eat wasn't going to get any better.
If they fix their service, this place would be perfect. Hope they do, because the food is excellent.
Came here on late Friday morning. I have passed this place up before because of the lines during the weekends so today was my lucky day to try it out. Let me just say parking was a challenge but I was able to find street parking close by and download the Park Detroit app. The staff was friendless and greeted us and the food was tasty. The pancakes were spongy and sweet that complemented the savory flavor of the chicken. I also had eggs and grits which were also delicious. I asked for my eggs over easy and they came like how I wanted them. Everyone was pretty much relaxed and friendly, and the price point not too bad. Will come back again.
The waffle flavor and chicken tenders were great! Waffle flavor was sweet with nutmeg and not too much cinnamon. But they were spongey like pancakes. Eggs tasted like the liquid kind from an extended stay hotel breakfast. Just thin and runny. I asked the waitress if they served real eggs and she said they were. Maybe they are adding water or something. But they were terrible. Who makes bad eggs and serves cold food? The room temp butter wouldn't even melt on the waffle because they were so cold.
The wait is long and everytime I come here their out of product that's why I stop coming. Decided to give them another chance nothing changed no rice catfish froze. Wow prepare day before I am a cook. You will lose customer and money .
This place is horrible now this is the second time we have received horrible chicken. The chicken was dry and burnt with no seasoning. It also appeared that it was fried in dirty grease. It’s really sad that this place has gone down like this. Oh and you better not call and complain they will get very nasty. This was the meeting place on Sundays well back to The Original House of Pancakes so unfortunate.
What an amazing find. From the moment I walked in the staff was nice and welcoming. The host was a delight, the service was great, our drinks and food came out quite quickly.
The chicken was near perfection. Just enough batter, you still can see and taste the skin which added to the texture. On top of that, meat was very juicy not oily or greasy at all. Then there are the waffles, wow. They have a wonderfully unique taste that is meant to be eaten with chicken. Whipped sweet butter that spreads like whipped cream. I also tried the red koolaid and I was immediately transported to my grandma's house. The interior is so cool, I could write a whole review on that alone.
My only issue is, I don't think I'll be enjoying chicken and waffles outside of Kuzzo's, you are not going to find this anywhere else. I came all the way from East Lansing, and I will be doing it again.
Chicken was amazing. It was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. It had a nice seasoning that paired well with the sweet pancakes and syrup. The lemonade was thirst quenching and abundant. Service was slow but server was nice and kind.
One of our favorite local places. Expect a wait as they prepare the chicken fresh to order but it’s more than worth it. Some of the best waffles I’ve ever had - recommend getting it with strawberries.
To be fair, we came during the lunch rush. But it took about half an hour to take our orders, then about an hour for our food to come out. It looked like they had one waiter for both the bar and floor. But despite the slow service, the food was excellent. I tried boneless chicken, a waffle, and hot chocolate and all were fantastic. So if you have time to wait around, I recommend it. If you're in a hurry, get takeout (call ahead) instead.
As of April 2019, Tues-Thursday they are NOT open til 9pm. They close at 8pm. We suggested they update their hours on their website and on google, because we showed up at 8pm on a Wednesday and they were closed :(
Amazing chicken and waffles. Good prices and bigger than expected menu. Coffee could have been a little better though.
Best waffles I've ever had. Cool decor. Service is very slow so plan ahead.
First visit in a while. Thankfully, this visit fell on a slower day during the week, which really allowed time for TGR and I to enjoy the view.
