How would you rate Crispus Attucks Cultural Center?
I felt compelled to write something about Saturday nights performance of "A Christmas Carol" I tried to like this event and saw some potential. A late start and a 30 minute Act one then a fifteen minute intermission that lasted more like twenty three minutes then an act two that was about 35 minutes was more a blessing than a disappointment. The dancing, lighting and creative design were interesting however they were mostly on a par with an elementary or middle school performance. The ticket charges were way too much for a "school play" like venue. In the middle of the second act there was a woman in the audience that yelled out "That's my baby girl, up there" . . . "that's my baby"! In my opinion I'm sorry to say, it was an unexpectedly disappointing experience.
I go almost every Saturday for steel drum lessons and I absolutely love it
The Attucks Theater is a hidden gem if you appreciate historic sites. I've had the privilege of attending a few jazz shows over the years. Musical acts are held in the main theater and upstairs in a venue for a club like feel. I suggest parking across the street to avoid congestion when leaving.
Really sweet people.. they welcomed me and taught me soo much..
I go to camp there its fun
Lt. Gen. Dr. Daniel Griffin, Jr. USAR,USAFNG did Audio/Video/Lighting Engineering with Tree Top Post Production Company back at the old Attucks Theatre when James Brown, O'Jays, B.B. King, Ruth Brown, and many other great plus Black Film Festival, RaJazz, and many other cultural events that Lt. Gen. Dr. Daniel Griffin, Jr. USAR,USAFNG.come get Attucks Theatre Jazz & R & B & Broadway Theatre Musical Experience.
Nice theater if you're interested in the shows they get. Nice intimate setting for the right shows.
Went to the Kwanzaa celebration! Great atmosphere
A very intimate and personal venue. Fabulous decor. Had a slight sound system problem. You definitely need to arrive early. Parking is very limited. But overall experience was wonderful.
Beautiful place but lost a couple of limbs to frostbite. Bring a big sweater in the summer as the AC is brutal
Wonderfully intimate venue for small shows
A wonderful place for any event, wedding, Birthday party and awesome Jazz, churchstreet style. Fun comedy shows? Beautiful and historic.
Didn't realize how nice of a venue this was. Not the best part of town but a true gem.
Nice facility but limited parking.
My Wife and I were first timers to the Attucks theater. Celebrated 27yrs of Marital Bliss tonight. Nicole Henry killed it, what a talent. Hope to see her perform in the future.
Intimate with a touch of old time regal...
Great Richard Ellio
Historical theater that offers great seating. It is a intimate theater so every seat has a great view of the stage on the lower level. If you want to enjoy dinner before your show, the Ghent section of Norfolk is close by. Bring cash and come.early for parking because it is very limited.
A great cozy venue for all kinds of shows!
Well light outside at night. Inside is well kept.
I Played Steel Drums Their For A Few Years And Never Had Any Problems.. Also The Workers Are Pretty Nice People !
I had the most enjoyable evening last night at the Attucks Theatre seeing the play THE MOUNTAINTOP by KATORI HALL featuring Karen Malina White and Gilbert Glenn Brown. Thank you to my friends Larry & Ronnie Deering for my invitation.
Very nice venue. Just the right size every seat has a great view.
Wonderfully restored venue. Intimate aditorium setting whereby every seat is a good seat.
A beautiful event. The theater is lovely and well taken care of. Would love to go back
The one and only Attucks Theater... perfect venue for an evening out! Attended Jazz pianist Marcus Johnson concert! Thoroughly enjoyed the great acoustics!
Very good place to bring your family to see a show .
Very small area for the bar to be as soon as u walk in the door. Makes it hard to get threw a crowd
The interior is absolutely beautiful. Great for any venue
Excellent customer service no top shelf liquor
Historic and amazing! Went to see Lori Williams perform jazz sets!
Saw JD Southern and met him afterwards! Incredible talent and beautiful theatre!
Very nice! The Julian Vaughn Concert was excellent
Historic venue with great sound for music. Theatre seating.
Had a great time at the 100 year Celebration of the Attucks Theatre. Beautiful building, friendly ushers. Upstairs there is a small exhibit of the history. Beautiful art through out the facility. Limited parking.
Went here to see Kim Waters and he was great! The acoustics were pretty good too. I gave it 4 starts only because the seating was really, really tight.
Great acoustics! Small and intimate. Kim Waters was great! Loved the venue.
Historic venue. Some of the biggest names in show business past and present have played at this venue on Church St. In downtown Norfolk VA. Absolutely wonderful.
Very historic theatre with many of the actual features preserved. Accessible parking, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Events are always informative as well as entertaining.
We go here for the jazz and it's amazing. Have been coming here every year they have the jazz festival and have never regretted it once.
I am new here from New York and this was an excellent first theater experience in Norfolk.
The Attucks is steeped in history (which I love). It is sparkling clean and the staff are extremely kind and helpful.
Parking is minimal behind the theater but free, so get to your show early. Additional parking is available close by with a donation in any denomination.
I saw Leslie Jones here. She was part of the line up for the theater's 100 year anniversary (Attucks 100). The sound and lighting was superb. The seating is intimate so you get an excellent view of the stage no matter where you sit. Caution though, the seats felt a bit small so do not carry large pocket books. There is just enough space for you to sit in your chair. Nothing extra!
There is also a bar available so you can sip while you enjoy the show.
Please do visit this magnificent theater.
Nice venue. Viewing the show was awesome. The only issue I found were the rows of seating are too close to those seated in front of you- legs were a bit cramped, and seats are on the small side.
Great venue. We enjoyed Leslie Jones!
The show was supposed to start at 7p.m. and that did happen. However, once it started I really enjoyed myself. Lalah Hathaway performed and she was all that I expected and more. A really awesome experience. The Attack Theatre is ok and service was good but it's definitely not designed for large people. The seating area is tight, very little legroom.
The atmosphere and sound is great. A wonderful place to attend an event.
What an incredible theater! What an historic theater as well
I saw Layliah Hathaway, show was AWESOME as she and her band are AWESOME. 5he Theater is very old and antique chairs. I'm just 5'8", and my legs were very uncomfortable. Show and sounds made it well worth it.
The Church Street Celebration was wonderful. My favorites were Check Five and Different Perspective. What a marvelous way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the historic Attucks Theater!!
Oh my goodness gracious gosh golly wow gee. Brian Simpson was superbly awesome. I have seen him several times but at the Attucks Theatre it was better. Balcony seats which didn't make a difference due to the fact that the setting is intimate. I love the theater, everything and everyone was professional. Gave 4 stars because the seating is uncomfortable. I am 5'7" and mostly legs, ac was too cold. Next time I will bring a blanket...not really. But there will be a next time. Check this theater out.
Seeing the Legendary Mr. Gary U.S. Bonds perform was absolutely amazing, it was a pergect blend of local talents with old school artists and new school artists performing old school music. It was a Wonderful Event!
Historical landmark, absolutley amazing. The "Apollo Of The South" is what the Attucks Theater was called back in the day. In the 20's, 30's and 40's big time acts like, Ella Fitzgerald, BB-King and Nat King Cole performed at this venue followed by many other legends. Renovated Attucks kept some of its historical items like the original stage curtain w/ historic art. Looks small on the outside but enormous inside
Really enjoyed the 100th Celebration of the Attucks Theater. The portrayal of my mother, Bonnie McEachin was outstanding and very heart warming. I truly enjoyed this historical event in Black History!
We enjoyed the show at this beautiful and historic theater. The acoustics are not the best and some seats in the balcony suffer from safety bars obstructing the view but overall it is a well maintained lovely theater. The staff were all kind and helpful. There is a small parking lot behind the theater but the church next door has a large with members were asking for donations for parking, which we were happy to do.
Classy venue. #FUBU before fubu was cool. Full of history yet nicely remodeled.
Small... vintage...intimate...I like it!
This was my second time visiting this venue and I love the atmosphere.
I attended a comedy show a few Friday's...read this and 9 more
