How would you rate Choice Construction Companies, Inc.?
TERRIBLE customer service! It has been 2 months since they started our roof and we still have rubber hanging off the front of our soffit. It looks terrible and is embarrassing! They had a carpenter finally come over after 2 months to do our soffit and it looked so sloppy my husband had to fix it. Their excuses as to why they can't finish their job is because they have big commercial jobs their men are working on. THEN STOP BOOKING RESIDENTIAL JOBS! Of course they have our money now and I'm wondering if it will ever be finished.
I worked with John at Over The Top Roofing when having a new roof put on a foreclosure house I purchased. I couldn't have asked for a better experience working with a contractor. When John came out to give me a quote, he took extra time to explain all the available options to ensure I was getting a quality roof at a competitive price. I was very well informed throughout the scheduling process and when it came time for the install, the guys arrived exactly when they said they would. Not only was the install of the roof quality, the cleanup was great as well. The roof was installed almost a year ago and I have yet to find a roofing nail which was left behind. I make sure to recommend Over The Top to anyone I know who is looking for a dependable contractor!
Fast and professional. Complete tear off and redo in one day. I am no roofer but looks like excellent quality to me.
4.5 stars is more accurate. Would have given 5 stars but they were not able to start for several weeks after estimated start. Mostly weather's fault though I'm sure.
Would absolutely recommend!
Over The Top Roofing did our roof as well as repair that was needed. They tore off 2 layers of shingles, did all the flashing and had the new roof on and all cleaned up in 1/2 day. Unbelievable Finished up the repairs and gutters the next day. We were VERY satisfied with the work and the friendliness of all involved. I see others around where they work on the roof for weeks.
I've had Overt The Top Roofing complete repairs on roofs for two of my homes now. On both occasions they did great work, in a reasonable amount of time for a competitive price. I will continue to use them for any roofing needs that I have and refer them to any friends or family as well.
Prompt communication, professional and friendly staff and they fixed my roof leak at an extremely reasonable price. I will definitely hire again.
I reached out via message and received a response from Nancy on Angie's List. I then provided pictures and she informed me that I would be contacted soon. I received a call the next day from Rick and scheduled an appointment for an estimate @ 10am on Monday. All of that went very well. On Monday at 9:34AM I received a call from Rick asking if we could meet at 11AM instead. I know things come up so I said that was fine. 11AM comes and goes. A little after noon I called Rick and he did not answer. Rick never showed up for our appointment and decided to dodge my call and never call back. Completely unprofessional and a waste of my morning off. This company has an A rating on Angie's List so it's probably a one off but keep in mind you might be "ghosted" by them.
My experience with over the top began with two leaks around my gutters on the front and back of my home. I had planned on getting my house coated (similar to Rhino Shield) over the summer so I contacted Over the Top to come fix the leaks that I was not able to repair on my own. The company sent out a person for a free estimate. He and I got on the roof to look at the currently installed condition and discuss a plan of attack as my painting/coating job was coming up. He determined that too much water was being directed to too small of a gutter. Two diverters would push the water away from the offending areas and solve the problem.
The estimate came in higher than I had expected based on the material we had discussed. I was told that the estimate covered two men for half of a day. Being a highly rated company I deferred to the expertise of the professional.
The roofer was here from approximately 2pm to 4pm. During that time the workman took a smoke/phone call break directly outside of the open window in which I was working. The person left without saying he was done, leaving an invoice, or anything. I had to reach out to the project manager to determine if he was going to come back because I was told this was an eight hour job.
The next day, was told that he was in fact done and that he was their best roofer/carpenter and was able to finish in half the time of a two man crew. While awaiting my final invoice I had a gentle rain in which the leak issues arose again. I had photos and video of each leak which I sent to the PM on June 13th. He was going share these with his boss and get back to me with the next step solution. My house gets painted during the time between the sharing of the videos and the follow up on July 17th. The owner comes out with the PM and says I most likely have a construction defect where the flashing was installed without the counter flashing tape. Water was supposedly rushing up and over the flashing. The solution would be to remove siding, add the counter flashing and replace the siding. The price tag for this work was not insignificant so I got a second opinion.
Within 24 hours I got another roofer to my home who, with a tube of Terpolymer Sealant and 30 min, solved my issues to date (and didn’t charge for it). He also attempted to test it with a bucket of water before leaving making sure he didn’t completely miss the cause of the problem. The issues were: (a) a diverter should have been installed where one was not in the front, and (b) the back kick-out flashing was installed incorrectly on top of, not underneath, the existing flashing. I’m not kidding - the second guy chuckled at the Over the Top installation.
So, the boss never came out an actually looked at the original install to see the error in his “best” roofer’s work. The initial reaction was to charge me for more work that probably wouldn’t have fixed the problem.
So I called to let Over the Top explain why their price was as high for the first work and share the fact that it wasn’t done right to begin with. I had a lot of excuses as to overhead, the PM’s time, driving to get materials, etc as to why they were owed the original amount. Unfortunately for them I’m in the construction business and understand where most of these costs are built into the hourly wages, mark-up on product etc. so a lot fell on deaf ears. In the end I got the total reduced by 32% which probably was still too high, but I’m glad to be done with Over the Top. I’m probably most upset that the owner never got on a ladder to look at the initial install himself. He may have noticed the poor initial install and saved himself this poor review.
In recap: Poor Communication + Poor Install + High Prices = Bad review.
I am very pleased with the work that was done on my house. I had insulation blown into the attic, roof vents installed and an attic stairway removed. Excellent service, excellent price. A very good experience.
I was very happy with the work. Their prices were very competitive. My salesman Jason was a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend!
They were very fast. They cleaned up well and our new roof looks great. Price was enough to make you cry, but the best in the area...
Most amazing people to work with! The owner Rick is a great person to work with. He took time out to listen to what I wanted and needed. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for a roof or construction work! After reading the reviews and looking into it a little bit I noticed that there are 2 Rick's one who is the owner and one who is simply an employee. I would not judge the comments on the owner Rick as he was amazing to work with.
They showed up on time for estimate (big deal compared to some competitors). Fixed my skylight and came in at the estimate (no surprises or hidden fees). Only issue was scheduling. I keep asking for a date and they said we are waiting on parts. Then out of the blue they called and said they had time and wanted to do it in 30 mins, i said no, then they called me to complain about saying no when they gave me 30min notice. That was not great and annoying. But once we got the date and time scheduled they showed up on time and did great work. Only issue was the employee in charge of scheduling.
Had a new roof installed . Workmanship was good. Communication very poor had to call them never got calls returned not one out of Many calls.
Job started 3days late.
After job clean up was a bad nails and Staples all over the yard Driveway was a mess Dumpster stayed almost a week after completed job. Very bad communication. The only good thing was lady in office was nice . Ryan was poor to deal With unprofessional.
