How would you rate Uncle Ronnie's ?
Up to three months ago I would have agreed that this was the spot to take your family for a special dinner. In the last three months I had a problem twice. I had an issue with drinks and contacted the owner and I was told the bartender was new. (I guess that was my fault, I should have asked before ordering). In the last two weeks I had dinner there and while eating a salad I noticed brown water in the bottom of the bowl. I told the waitress who did not bring me a fresh salad back. I called the manager and he did not call me back. I called the owner and left my name and number and also left a message. To this date no phone call. I won't go back and I have nothing good to say about House of Kobe in Merrillville
Fun, good size potions, excellent food!
We have been coming for at least 18 years and we love the food. Your portions are large, food is excellent. Sushi is always good. Sometimes too much salad dressing so I ask for it on the side.
We usually bring a family of 6. Our kids have grown up eating here for many special occasions.
Had a great meal! Fun and a few drinks. Worth every penny.
Have ate here for a long time. Great place, great food, an alright service (I've never had a problem). I've never tried the sushi so maybe that would change my rating, but otherwise I give them a 5.
Delicious hibachi! Will visit again! So much meat!
Fun place to eat. Chef cooks right in front of you. Sushi is tasty. I've been only twice but It's a nice place to go back too.
Delicious food, prompt service, fun atmosphere. Great place for a group or date night. A little pricey but worth the money. Go on a weekday and order the chef special for the best value.
To the rude couple tonight Friday 01/08/2014 you ruined my night by being jerks to the waitress with your children right there you should be ashamed of yourselves. If your not patient don't go on Friday night their busiest time. I saw how you were assholes to her. You are pathetic!
Food is amazing they cook in front of you wow. Great if your really hungry too.
Weekday special for steak and chicken has gone up to 17.95. Website said 16.50. Bad upkeep of the snow in the parking lot.
Good for a quick burrito
Wouldn't know how the food was cause we were never seated. Apparently making a reservation here means absolutely nothing. Never will go here again.
The shrimp is amazing! And I love how they cook it in front of you!
Excellent sushi! I suggest the tuna crunch. Great folks and atmosphere. Sushi comes out quick and great!
We were able to get a table on New Years Eve pretty easily. The food was excellent as always!
Great food! Go for lunch for a good deal but to still receive your weight in food! Make reservations, especially on Valentine's Day, or you'll be waiting half the night.
I didn't expect this place to be a hibachi restaurant, so I was a little off-put eating with strangers when I wasn't expecting it, but the food was undeniably delicious and incredibly filling. The daily specials are an excellent deal!
Delicious kobe steak & chicken
This has become a semi-regular lunch destination. It can be pricey at dinner, but lunch is very reasonably priced and the portions are huge. Chicken and Steak is always a good option.
Great food great service
Went for my daughters birthday and had a great time. Great show, food was amazing and had enough food to take home for 2 meals. Definitely will be going back.
The sushi chef is always very nice. The food is good and my kid likes to watch the koi in the small koi pond.
Place was good. You get ALOT of food. Chef was nice.
Good food...our chef wasn't very entertaining as some of the others but he was fun when he did
The food was very good. The price is a little high, but it evens out with how much food you get. It is a fun experience for any occasion.
Fun resturant with great food and good portions. Plus I forgot my receipt and they were able to find it and text a copy to me after dining there, great service
Classic teppan Japanese restaurant. Food is great and the show is fun if you haven't seen it.
The food was excellent. I recommend getting a reservation before going on a weekend, although we managed to get in after a no show in about 10 minutes. Highly recommended!
This is my family's favorite place to eat. They give you a ton of really good food. They have great sushi too.
Best dinner and show I've ever been to. It was my first experience there and honestly I was blown away by the talent of the chef's. They did forget to cook my noodles, yet the server had them cook some up in the back, so I had no serious complaints about any of it.
Very fun and delicious food! The portions are enormous, loved everything!
Haven't been here in years and not sure why, but I can't wait to come back! While it seems a bit pricey, they give you a ton of food. Enough to have 1 or 2 more meals of leftovers. Plus, it's super delicious! The hibachi chefs are amazing at what they do!!! I highly recommend this place!
Food is amazing and all around exciting atmosphere once you get seated. Been here twice. The first time we had no reservations and we're seated within 10 minutes. The second time we made reservations and it took 35 minutes after reservation time to be seated. Overall great experience.
Been going to house of Kobe for years ...
The newer management has been to focused on cost cutting and not enough of quality staff and staff training.
Some of the older staff are really amazing ... the newer crew is rather rude and generally don't seem to realize that ... as far as for myself , I expect to be treated better then if I was waiting in line at mcdonalds
The wait staff is not the only area where training seems to be lacking. The veteran chefs tend to be amazing, and deliver great food consistently. Most of the newer chefs deliver terrible food every time. We have had severely overcooked and poorly seasoned food on several occasions from newer chefs.
Good food and great service.
It is best to call ahead during normal dinner times to make sure they do not have a wait. For the most part, you normally never have to wait too long anyways.
The atmosphere here is amazing. Definitely one of the best out of them all.
The portions of food you get here is amazing. You definitely get more food here than anywhere else.
The soup and salad is nothing special (same as usual from hibachi grills).
The rice is good. I have had better rice and I have had much worse rice. I personally think they put too much veggies in the rice.
It does not come with noodles unless you pay for them. They are most certainly worth here here however.
The veggies (never get actually get them *double order of rice no veggies*) looks like they were the normal you get at most.
The filet that I always get is amazing. The taste is great and is up there with the rest of the Japanese steak houses I have been to.
After the food:
They normally don't rush you and always make sure you have room for your desert.
The food is great and the service is as well. Definitely worth every penny.
I love this place for special occasions! I took my oldest son for his 13th birthday in January. His first time ever and he fell in love. Great entertainment by the chef and awesome food! Must try once!
Amazing experience and delicious food. Omg so much food you get. It may seem a little pricey but you are definitely getting dinner and next days lunch as well. Love the cooks! The sushi was also very good!
Everything about this place is amazing. The price is a little steep but you get a lot of food and I mean A LOT, but you also get dinner and a show so it balances out!!!! I highly recommend this place.
Not bad. Good Saki and great noodles. The chicken is a little bland and dry, the lobster is good, and pretty everything else is above average so that's nice.
The place is old and wirn but it ads to the charm. It's no Benihana but hey, it's still delicious and actually affordable. I will certainly continue to come back.
The food is always fantastic here, but our last experience was out of this world. Our chef was very friendly and personable. His food was absolutely amazing! He took his time and entertained the whole table. Would recommend this one over the Schererville one any day.
I've been going to the 2 House of Kobe's for years... I have never once had a bad time the service is excellent the food is even better the atmosphere is what you would expect it to be. The prices are always reasonable especially the lunch prices! I'm a lifelong customer
Great sushi, hibachi is good and they have daily specials Monday-Thursday that are pretty well priced.
They do not have the white "yum-yum" sauce that other hibachi restaurants offer.
Very nice place. Chef was very nice and talkative. I loved how they cook right in front of you. The shrimp and steak was great I would definitely recommend. The only criticism I have is we were celebrating my grandma's birthday and we had to sit with another family. I wouldn't mind normally but another group of people sat by themselves and there was around 3 of them in comparison we had 5 people. So great place over all.
Delicious food. Fun atmosphere. First thought was, yikes this is expensive, but the amount of food definitely made it worth it.
Great service, wonderful chef, and speedy service. Food was phenomenal and not too pricey!! You get a big portion for what you pay for
All I can say is the customer service at House of Kobe is wonderful. The meal my soon to be husband and I had was great! My only chief complaint was how awful the other customers at my table were! I swear they must've been in their own la-la land. Great service and food all around and how they handled the situation following. I can't wait to go back again.
We started out trying sushi at Kroger and later found this place. So much better and we live sitting at the bar to watch them make it! Very friendly staff
Awesome place to have dinner and show with good friends and family. This place serves the best, fresh tasting seafood, steak, vegetables, and chicken. They also serve the best appetizers to indulge. The chefs are really fun to watch and make cooking look cool. Everyone adult and child loves to watch the chefs work their magic here. The atmosphere is also great with calm, peaceful waterfall and coy fish pond that really makes you feel like you are in Japan without paying for trip to get there.
My first time there and I loved it! The chefs were phenomenal, and the servers were very attentive. The food was out of this world.
Nice place for lunch. Food was good. Place appeared clean, but lighting is dim. Makes you wonder.... ;-)
Okay...tonights service was exceptionally bad! Soup came out cold, and then returned warm. And I mean just warm. Food was decent, but the entire table was in need of refills. I had to ask another server to get my server and after she showed up I still had 2 wait another 5 min. Not once did she ever check on our table for anything. Hell I even had to ask for a straw...Then it took another 10 min or so just for her to pick up the check. Again food wasn't bad, but service sucked!!
Always a fun place to go to with a group of family/friends. The chefs are typically interactive with all guests and encourage silliness. My 9 year old daughter cracked the egg and caught all the shrimps in her mouth. Portions are enormous and should probably just be shared! It's a little salty in terms of price and amounts of salt used on the grill, but I feel the entertainment is worth the price.
Was very impressed. Drove from Orland Park to check this place out and it was very good. Great show, food was great, they weren't stingy with their food, and prices were really not that bad for the amount of food you got.
We have been coming here for many many years. 5 stars many years ago. Made reservations, doesn't mean squat as they still don't seat you until the last person is there. I guess we are liars and come second to an empty table. Kinda rude hostess staff too. Server was good. Chef was not friendly or fair with portions. Kept using same utensils from the raw chicken and shrimp to the vegetables. Not food safe at all. No mushrooms for 4 out of 7 meant that he actually took the allotted portion away. Same with the 2 shrimp that comes with the meal, he held back again as 4 out of 7 didn't want the shrimp. That is pathetic. Knowing this, he retained shrimp for the end where they throw into the customer mouth. Food has gone down hill along with the portions being much smaller. 7 people, $287.00. Looks like the newer generation is screwing this up too.
This is my son's favorite restaurant and the price reflects that. It's definitely a place to eat for special occasions. There is always a wait on weekend nights, but you can make a reservation.
The procedure for reservation is:
1. Call and reserve a time (ex: 7pm) 2. Arrive at 7pm and they will put your name on their wait list only when all people from the party are present. 3. You are queued with the rest of the people that had reservations (ahead of people without, but still a wait is required) 4. You get seated after the other people that have been waiting for a 1/2 hour with reservations.
But...the wait is worth it. The wait staff is quick to bring you a drink and take your order. While you are waiting for the chef and his performance, the wait staff brings you soup and salad. (Try the Ginger dressing, it's delicious!) When the chef arrives, he'll check your order and then put on a cooking show. I always have leftovers that are just as good the next day. The meal is pricey, but so yummy.
Local Tip: Go during lunch! The meal is 1/2 the cost and the only items you don't get are the soup and ice-cream. It's a great deal.
House of Kobe and hibachi in general is very good and a good show with dinner. Our party was 16 and the waitress was a little understandably slow but the chef was awesome. Also, you do have to pay extra for fried rice at this restaurant and at others you don't have to but that's minimal. Overall a good time
If you like Japanese Steakhouse this one is excellent. Food is amazing environment is nice. Watching food being prepared is fun!
Me and my wife took my grandson out to eat there for his birthday!!! That is one of his favorite places to go so he can watch them cook in front of him. So it was my daughter her three kids and me and my wife. The waitress was very good during the service. And the cook was very good during the service they both were exceptionally good!!!
The waitress was so good she went out of her way so much to try to make sure that we had everything we needed even stayed on top of our drinks to make sure they were full even the kids too.....
Terrible server. She didn't have any desire to even talk to us. She would walk away in the middle of us talking to her MULTIPLE times, talked back to us, and so much more. We go here every year and this was the worst experience yet. We will NEVER be returning.
If you have your job that much, you should probably quit. Don't ruin our dining experience.
Do not visit this place. Spend your money somewhere else.
I would rate this with 0 stars if it were possible.
First time visited with family. Awesome experience. Chef prepared food table side. Huge portions of food and it was scrumptious!!! Great pricing on the menu!!!
Wonderful place to be. Good food. There was an employee walking around doing funny things to make us laugh.
I took my wife here for her birthday and it was absolutely an amazing experience! The food was outstanding and you better prepare to have to-go boxes because there is a lot of food. If you do Hibachi like we did it is a little expensive but you do get your money's worth with the experience and the amount of food. We will definitely be back!
I got the chef's special which comprised of beef and chicken and noodles which was really good. The chef are animated and it is get welcoming for children and toddlers. The hospitality is inceredile and the food is superb. The amount of food you get for your money is overwhelming and you cannot finish it in one sitting. The noodle soup is an appetizer and that is the best soup I ever tasted
Delicious food and fun to eat on the open grill. You get to meet new people at the table. If you are a party of less than eight. Great experience!!
Steak was ok. Server was absent most of meal. Hostess was obnoxious! Prices were jacked up for Friday and Saturday only! They tried wedging our seven adult person Birthday party into five seats! No real enthusiasm from our chef...we entertained him and made him laugh! So thirsty by end of meal, the ice in our sherbets was a welcomed relief.
The experience is great. The food was very good except for the steak. Chewy. So I'd definitely go back but stay away from the steak. I'd also go (again for lunch) for cheaper price.
The food, and our cook was good, the service sucked. After waiting around at our table for 25 minutes we had to go and find someone to serve us drinks, we were then told our server was very busy,. All night we were given standby servers that we had to wave down for service. This place needs tho do better at staffing enough people to serve ALL guest. Not just a select few.
Typically a really good place for family dining. The chef normally entertain's the crowd while cooking, our last visit not so much. It was way to hot in there and the chef didn't put on the food flying show that you go there to enjoy.
This is the best place for authentic Japanese food. A bit expensive, but, the portion sizes are very generous. The best part is watching the cook bring the food out for the entire table, and, preparing the food in front of the customers. So you know it's nice, and, hot. The atmosphere is very beautiful to look around while waiting.
Very hyped, but I found it average overall.
Food was great, can't fault that. Hibachi grills are among my favorite, but there's simply better.
Building is old and didn't seem super clean. Low ceilings make for a crowded, stuffy place. Add the heat from the grills and it's 80+ degrees in there often.
Service was mostly good, if a little slow since they're always crowded. I think this is exacerbated by so much of the building being cramped; servers appeared to be almost crashing into each other a lot.
The price is a bit high compared to other similar places. However, I'd take a 10% drop in food quality if it meant being 15% cheaper, not sweating in the dining room, and a better building.
Staff and cooks seem great, it's just all handicapped by an old terrible building.
Won't be back. Servers are not attentive at all. The chef was new at best. Dropped everything several times, to include dropping our food on the floor and having to get more. There were zero cooking skills whatsoever. There was absolutely no show. The temperature in the building was almost 100. $9 beers and a $25 dollar plate. Didn't even get my entire food order. I love going to hibachi places but this one was by far the worst and it's really hard to be a bad hibachi place. Good luck if you choose to go here
This place is trash. I went here for dinner, everything was pleasant, got home and got food poisoning. 24 hours later and I'm still puking my guts out. 0/10 would only recommend if you like vomiting. Cool duck decoration tho.
Awesome place to dine! Excellent service, absolutely AMAZING CHEF! My fiance and I went for a late lunch and the chef had us laughing the entire time. The food was delicious, and the prices were good especially considering the amount of food we had. Definitely will be returning!
Love this restaurant! My family’s favorite for birthdays and celebrations. You’re guaranteed delicious food and a great time. The only potential problem I’ve seen here is the waitresses run through and don’t wait for you to answer, but it’s not their fault as they are swamped probably due to a lack of hiring/scheduling. It is unfortunate for them.
This is the best Japanese grill in Northwest Indiana. The food is great, the chef skills are great, atmosphere is great. My family loves going there. Plenty to eat, priced competitively.
Food was good. Service was nice. But man was served our steak that he didn't order. We had to ask for our steak and was told sorry. When speaking to the Manager about the mistake, he acted like it was okay. When asked for compensation he acted as if it were our fault. Gave only 10% offone meal. Probably won't go back!!!
Their sushi has always been my favorite. But After sitting at the sushi bar the last visit all could focus on was that the Sushi kitchen needs a thorough scrubbing. The food and service is great but I can't eat there again after seeing that.
Outstanding food, the chefs are great performers and chefs, the servers are good as well. Dinner for 4 of us was $177. This included 3 soft drinks and two Sakes. Also, since we were a group of 8, each paying different portions of overall bill, (separate bills), we all had a service charge. Ours was $28. Riduculous. Also, the interior hasn't been remodeled in several years.
To make it short, food and preparation excellent! Service good. Prices high and restaurant needs some refreshing.
Love coming here, always a fun time with anyone you go with. The put on a funny show everytime and the food is pretty good to I love the soup. Highly recommend for a fun family night dinner
Cook was amazing! Very funny and entertaining. Food was ok but the steak was undercooked big time. Waitress was nice but extremely slow. We had to wait a long time for everything it seemed like. Atmosphere is nice. Overall it's always a fun time. We will be back.
Food is good. Waitresses are slow. I had to flag them down just for refills and they brought wrong drinks. Never seen them after that! The manager checked us out. I spent 173 and they tried to tack on a 32 gratuity fee which I refused to pay because we tipped the cook and didn’t get service at our table! Food prices changed and are steeper now.
Great experience! Excellent food, chefs prepare in front of you.. usually keep you laughing. . On the pricey side, expect 100 plus for 3 or more people.. well worth it though
I have three small kids and the pace of the meal and the chef was awesome. So many times we go out and wait staff drop the ball. Nothing like trying to corral 3 little ones once their bored.
The dinner was fantastic. Kobe Royal delicious. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the filet was cooked to perfection. Husband had the Emperor. Lobster and filet were beyond expectations. Went there to celebrate a birthday. It was a perfect experience.
Great atmosphere. Great food. Great service. Fun environment
This restaurant is amazing. The whole family loves it! They cook in front of you and put on a show if you sit on the teppan side. It's a bit pricey but you are paying for the entertainment as well as really good quality food. Their steak, chicken, sushi, shrimp are all wonderful! The fried rice & noodles are another favorite as well as the ginger salad dressing!
The server and chef were very polite. Our chef seemed a little less sure of himself than the others but it was still fun to watch as a first timer. Over all a good experience and brought home an entire second meal so not bad for 20 bucks.
Love this place! The food is great and it doesn't hurt that the entire staff is wonderful. I truly believe that these guys are doing it right...Jerry is my favorite 😁. FYI you don't have to sit at a show table.
Always friendly staff and great food. We like visiting for the lunch specials which are a bit cheaper but you still get a huge amount of food. We will be back again!
Food was excellent, has been on my few visits. They were very busy and short staffed on my last trip. Their staff did a wonderful job keeping on top of things. Try the sushi if you haven't!
Very entertaining atmosphere. One complaint is it feels like they want to rush you out of there. The other is they use way too much butter. You have no idea the calorie intake of what you are eating. Very fun though once in a while.
I would have given House of Kobe 5 Stars if they managed their reservations better. We had a reservation for 7pm. We were sat at just before 8pm. Thankfully our server and our chef picked up the slack and we had an enjoyable dinner. The occasion was my Granddaughter's 8th Birthday. The highlight for the Birthday girl was ringing the Gong...
We had a 7:00 reservation and did not get seated til 7:30. Why have a reservation when you don't get seated at your reservation. Then the waiter HOT soup on me and never said sorry. Then we didn't get our salads til 8:30 which is 1 and 1/2 hours past our reservation. The manager did comp our birthday cake and candle which was the least he could have done. I have not been to your restaurant in 30 years and it will probably be another 30 years before I return. By the way this was a Wednesday not a weekend. Food was amazing and our chef barely said a word to us. I found the whole experience very boring and the prices you charge it should have been a little more exciting.
They offer AMAZING food. Every time I go I get the Tokyo special and every different chef has their own different twist on it which never ceases to amaze me. They hibachi grill is just fantastic and I think the prices are just right. It comes with a drink, great food, and a desert. It also comes with a great performance!! I keep coming back and so should you!!
My 1st time there.. we had fast service n great food.. I had ribeye n salmon with noodles.. loved it. Staff was very helpful n friendly.
This place use to be such an awesome place. The cooks aren’t as entertaining as they use to. The portion sizes have gotten smaller and smaller than in the past. They also got rid of their amazing ice cream and went the cheap route like BC Osaka. The food is still great but it just isn’t what it was.
Food was really tasty and prepared in a timely manner. The chef was really nice and joked around some. Once the waitress brought the check she took forever to come grab it so we could leave, but overall had a great time!
It was my grandson Dominic 7th birthday and we wanted to do something different. Let me tell you they didn't disappoint. The food and the staff were great. It was my first experience where they cook the food right in front of you. It was amazing. Definitely will go again. Great atmosphere for family with kids. They kids were just mesmerized by the experience of watching the cook. Absolutely loved it!
It was an amazing experience. The food was good and cooked really well. Will definitely go back again.
Generally, the House of Kobe is fantastic. A lot of it depends on your cook. if you get a really good cook you will have a fantastic time and enjoy a really good meal. Get there before 3pm and enjoy a delicious lunch special.
I always love coming here. Whether it's for the sushi or for the grill the food is always delicious. Our cook at the grill today was obviously knew but definitely did his best and it showed.
Very fun for everyone. It's very expensive, but they give you a TON of food. I have a whole meal of leftovers. The hibachi is very entertaining for all ages.
Food was great. Service was great. But got food poisoning. I noticed my plate was wet so I wiped it with my napkin. It wasn’t water, it was grease. That’s fine. Could have been an oil splash. Then I noticed another drip fall onto my plate from the cooking hood overhead. I asked for a clean plate. Not sure if that’s related but it shows the place needs a scrub down! About 30 minutes after dinner my daughters started to complain they felt sick. By the time we got home, everyone had postprandial diarrhea and cramping. Will not be back.
They have changed their product a little over the years. No more hot towels to start the meal. No more mushrooms in the soup and the performance of the cook varies. Some are great and some are just ok.
Nevertheless, the food is abundant. Cooked in front of you, usually in an entertaining manner and it's always good. You will be taking some home. Frankly, some of the best leftovers ever.
Service could definitely have been way better. No yumyum sauce and steak was extremely fatty. Most Japanese steak houses offer soup salad and noodles, this place only offered one option. This was a satisfactory option but I probably wouldn’t choose it again.
Fun, we had a great interactive chef. The atmosphere could stand an update. As could the soup and salad course. Overall a fun and tasty experience.
Depending on what you order it can be a very affordable meal that will stretch into lunch the following day (depending on your appetite of course). The show is entertaining even if you've seen it a dozen times before. I've enjoyed the food minus a couple times where the steak felt chewy but they were isolated incidents. I am surprised they got away from serving the dessert ice cream in bowls and instead went to the paper cups. Seems to cheapen an otherwise nice meal.
I highly recommend trying their chicken and salmon. Their steak is really good, too. Going there was such a great experience, and they cook right in front of you, so you know what you're eating.
Amazing food and atmosphere, the chefs put on a great show while preparing our food. I got the rib eye and shrimp, and my wife got the salmon and shrimp. Great portion sizes that left enough for dinner another night. Pricing is about $25 - $41 per person with most meals in the $27-$30 range plus drink. Our bill and tip was $90.
Great visual experience given by the tableside chefs. Food was very good and there was a lot of it for lunch. Fun place to eat.
Delicious as always!! Food was great staff was amazing! Highly reccomend this location. Bit of a wait but they were extremely packed for a Monday.
The preparation of the food is very interesting to watch. The chef was very polite, friendly, engaging and entertaining. He did a good job for our company of guests. Plus we had food to take home🤩
I'm never let down at this place. The food is always impeccable. The hibachi chefs are always on point with a great sense of humor. Pricing is a little high until you realize the astronomical amount of food you get in the dinners.
Not what it used to be. Not only did it appear run down, but there were bugs flying around (similar to fruit flies). I haven’t been there in years & was disappointed. Makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like. Our server was super nice and attentive, but having the little flies around really turned us off. Won’t be coming here again.
The best restaurant I've ever been too. I've probably said that before but this overrides those other restaurants. You basically get 3 meals out of the one serving they give you. And its relatively cheap for how much you get
The food is consistent but I feel that some of the changes they have made cheapen the experience. If they are going to give us flimsy menus and paper icecream containers with tearaway tops then the price point on their entrees should drop as well.
Great food. It is pricey but food taste great. The team members are a little sketchy which is why I gave them 4 stars (yes the American ones too).
This place is closed. Long gone. Too bad too because there really aren't any good soul food places around hereread this and 12 more
