How would you rate Patel Brothers?
Always a good supply of fruits, vegetables, Indian and Middle Eastern groceries, and various assorted items. Prices are extremely cheap. There are a lot of cross-regional products available to purchase and they are all at reasonable prices. The store is a little cramped, especially during the weekend, and people haven't gotten quite used to moving out of the way for others. There is also a fresh juice bar on the side that is quite delicious. Parking is a slight hassle here but if you go with someone, you can have them wait inside with groceries and you can pull the car up to load groceries faster. Overall, a great and reasonable place to get multicultural groceries.
The best grocery shop in all of Devon. Well maintained and attended. JONATHAN
You feel home when you are in here!! Thanks to Patel for having a wide range of Indian grocery
This store carries the SWAD and DEEP brands which is owned by Patel brother s. Some of these items such as wheat flour are mixed with soy bean flour. Soybeans are genetically modified and causes cancer. Don't buy anything that has soybean or corn flour or oil in it. Be careful. Read all the ingredients and look at the expiration dates. If no expiration date is shown stay away from it. Some of the items are made with cheap stale oil, it could be soybeans. These people don't care if packages are expired or if it has GMO soybean or corn in it. Beware. See YouTube videos on genetically modified foods.
Quintessential Little India experience...
Amazing pan. Nice staff.
Is SWAD brand using GMO seeds?
Ya its good
We Purchased Black Daal of SWAD brand from Patel Brothers. When we soaked it overnight, next day blank color washed away and we could clearly see it is Green Daal.
This was never expected that Swad will do something like this, That they will color the daal.
Good collection of Indian groceries at reasonable price.
anything you wish you miss from India you will get here. crazy fast checkout.
Everything you need. But they have monopoly over prices!
If you want to buy Indian groceries in Chicago, this is the place to go. I'm especially impressed by the quality of vegetables that they carry that you cannot get in other places. My only complaint is that it's a bit difficult to maneuver through the tight aisles.
I like how everything is under one roof for all the South Asian food. The pickels, and the helpful attendants.
Lots of verity of indian produce. Located in Indian street on Devon Ave,
Experience was good and will get things cheaper
One of the best Indian stores in chicago, they could keep this place clean though
When I get the opportunity I head to this store for rare finds such as deals on beauty products such as Dabur amla hair oil or bulk spices.
Love to shop for spices and Indian vegetables. The owners and staff are really very helpful in finding the items you need. Nice and clean store.
Best in city. I live in Bloomington-Normal and whenever we visit Devon street, we make sure to buy groceries for months.
Good place to buy any type of indian groceries!
Roti always not done well . Prices higher than other Indian store . India bazar Roti amazing ..they make it home n quite cheap and they don't over stoke even . Love India bazar but really far from me .patelbrothers people attitude also crazy. I hate it
It's one of the largest Indian food store and very reasonably priced too.
You can't expect the ambiance and decor of a shop like Target or Costco but it is equally bustling with people.
Patel brothers have a long history of business in the USA and India and they have done fairly good job at distributing some of the important spices, ready-to-eat packets and other South Asian vegetables to the community of Chicago. The staff are friendly.
The price of indian groceries is reasonable but the drawback is you do not get lot of brands to choose from. Majority products are of brand Swad(which is degraded in quality and taste)
all things Indian in one place! a complete array of Indian grocery is available here and is priced properly. we travel here every few months to stock up on grocery supplies.
The feel of India without any of the charm. It definitely felt like I was in India when I came here but the staff needs to remember that the restaurant is still in America. At the table next to me, a woman started changing her kid's diaper and no one asked her to go to the bathroom to check first.
If you can stand the music being played in the store they have all Indian groceries that I can think of. Prices are reasonable and plenty of staff to keep the checkout lines moving on busy days. Only issue - parking, but that's true for any store on the street.
Great place to buy groceries at a competitive price. Indians love this place.
Dhal like green gram, black urad has very bad quality and they are not original. It is a mix of some other grain abd stones.
I m not sure what they are mixing with. Patel brother, its truely unexpected on the quality. As we are out of india, we depend on your products badly. Sacrificing on quality is not good. I will not buy it any more risking my health.
Well I cannot think of Indian grocery stores in Chicago , without mentioning Patel brothers it's in right on top of the list. The store is well spaced compared to other Indian grocery stores. Don't be surprised if you find it to be a bit cramped the other stores are even more cramped. From vegetables , spices to pickles they have everything.
Best place to go for your Indian grocery shopping. Plus its located on Devon street so you can enjoy Indian food later
All Indian cooking items are available in one place. But should be careful about the expiration date. Check it on every items you buy. Onion here are always cheap.
Great indian grocery store. Wish they'd open a bigger store and more selection
They hair many Bhutanese/Nepali people and their service is great!
Great place to get most of the Indian stuff you need at a reasonable price. Just a little bit far off from main city
If u looking for indian place to shop for cooking indian food they carry all that u need....
Best place near downtown to buy Indian grossary
Feeling India in Chicago. Almost all Indian stuff of daily requirements is available at reasonable price.
Helpful staff to assist you
One of the oldest classic Indian grocery store in Chicago. Fantastic selection of spices, lentils, fresh produce, frozen items and snacks.
Very rude staff. Definitely not worth a visit. The one in Schaumburg is a lot better.
Excellent place for buying Indian groceries.... The staff is friendly and helpful
Wish they had some more parking space. Great store for all Indian groceries, at good prices.
Great spot for my Indian shopping needs. It has pretty much everything you could need, at quite reasonable prices.
People can be pushy and some men can be particularly curious but the prices of things are good. Not much diversity in vegetables but all the Indian snacks are there. Majority of the shoppers are very nice though.
All kinds of Indian grocery for less price and has good restaurants around for food.
Great gujrati Indian snacks and sweets here, they have the sugarcane juice too!
Great selection.. lot of varieties.. you get everything that you need.. almost all the time complete grocery shopping.. always crowded.. seems little small to accommodate increasing crowd.. prices of some items are higher that other places, bit you get everything under one roof.. and as everyone said, parking is a big problem, but can't blame them of course..
This is an awesome place. Every Indian item is available here at a very reasonable price. The only problem is of space. They're running out of space to put items on shelves and this bothers customers because they do not get enough room to travel.
I bought 30 packets of patel's home made chapati for a party at my place. In only 3 days I observed fungus and foul smell in the leftover packets (sealed/untouched), probably those were pretty old. Please do not sell old chapati's to people, if someone consumes it without observing, it might lead to food poison. I live in suburb and couldn't drive back all the way to Devon just to return those packets.
Great variety at this store including pre packaged items fruit and vegetable. I love the fresh mixes of Indian snacks sold by weight.
Huge range of products available here, especially Indian foods and spices. It had an Indian feel to the place. Worth a go even to just visit the place.
The oldest Patel Brothers store in USA has got almost every Indian thing (especially from Western region of India) one can ask for. There are bunch of their stores adjacent to their main grocery store. Its kind a chaos during weekend evenings due to soooo many customers. Most of employees are friendly and they keep organizing the store as much as they can so customers don't have trouble finding things.
Great selection of spices both ground and in seed form. Prices are very reasonable. I will be coming here for my spice needs for sure!
Large Indian and Pakistani market. Cheaper than Kamdar Plaza down the street, but not as cheap as Fresh Farms, which is two doors down. Has a great health and beauty section, and a wealth of dried goods. Produce is cheaper and fresher at Fresh Farms, but Patel's fresh options are still acceptable.
You'll find almost every Indian grocery and food options here.. Fresh food sections is amazing. Recommended.
This place is cheap and good. They recently renovated and now everything looks organized and clean on top of their competitive prices.
Best place to get indian items in Chicago....
You can actually feel like you are in mini India
A bit pricy compared to other Indian grocery stores. The vegetables are not the freshest. Could do better
all Indian grocery items on offer under a single roof..!! well-organized except for space crunch within the complete shop..!!
Always the complete range of Asian veggies, groceries and other foodstuffs are available a plenty to pick and choose from. Well-maintained and organized store. It's a delight to shop to one's heart content for home cooking items whenever I'm in Chicago.
Parking problems. Rest everything is good. Sometimes prices of stuffs are cheaper in fresh farm.
Probably the best place for Indian groceries. Don't let the bad old indian ambient music discourage you. Really good products, at good prices. Best for Indian snacks and sweets. Veggies are ok.
This store is small when compared to the ones in suburbs but you will find almost every possible Indian grocery here. It gets cramped during weekends. So try to do your grocery shopping on weekdays. Polite staff and paid street parking is available!
HUGE Indian Grocery Store. You can find anything and everything Indian here! From Food, Sweets to Home Decor.
I have noticed there are products that are not expired, but when you use them they smell and look old and expired. For example sooji, maida. The idli podi I opened today had some bugs in it. They ask us to come there to show them about such complaints. I live far from Devon I can not go there just to complain. I would go in my next visit that is after a month. The only thing is they need to ensure is that that the things that are old and almost expired should not be in isles. I bought a mango pickle when I opened it that was tasting bad and in next two days it caught fungus. I noticed in my last visit that had the mango pickle was still there from that batch. Next time if I find something of that nature i wouldn't complain to them, but to city health officials, that is the only way I think that can help stop such things.
I make a trip 3 or 4 times a year to get all my Indian goodies. The masala papadi is to die for and reasonably priced. Staff is great and goes out of their way to help!
Cost effective indian grocery. Good stock and very popular. Wish they had some parking space!
It’s best Indian grocery shop in USA. Not so big but enough place. Saturday and Sunday are too crowded but Monday to Friday is good..U get from here all types of vegetables. Leafy vegetables methi leaves, coriander leaves, patra leaves, pui leaves etc. are fresh. Fruits are good.Any types of spices such as cumin powder, coriander powder, poppy seeds, etc. employees are good and helpful. Reasonable price.. Roadside car parking .
ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS customer service! They loaded all of our grocery items into boxes because they're charging for plastic bags. Then we asked THREE different people to help us with our items to be unloaded onto our car and they all looked around because everyone was lazy. We spent $300 at their store and when we got to the exit, the man responsible for watching the shopping carts said, "nobody is available to help you, everyone is busy. And you have to stand outside." I WILL NEVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN!
U get everythijng u need. Indian groceries are all available. Good service
Extremely good selection of Indian groceries. There's stuff you will find here that are hard to find in India. Prices are super competitive as well - everything is very reasonably priced. Well maintained if crowded store. Never had any quality issues - everything has always been top notch. Customer service is really good too - the staff is very helpful. Their vegetable and fruit selection used to be quite sub-par but they have significantly improved it and they now have good fresh selection on veggies and fruits too. They are very Gujarati centric though - they still stock fair amount of options of other regional Indian groceries but you can clearly see the Gujarati focus of the store.
Best place for indian groceries... Its been the gold standard for indian groceries for many years
Great Indian store. South and North Indian food items are available. Vegetables probably cheaper than your regular store
Nice store for shopping Indian spices, good selection available. Prices are not too bad. Good selection of prepared sweets and savory snacks
Neat grocery store, lots of inexpensive produce, snacks, prepared foil pouch meals, spices, snacks. This last trip was especially fun due to Bollywood dance music :)
It's a good place for buying some house stuffs and vegetables but not too much types of vegetables and less space for moving cart
Good place for Indian grocery. 4 lbs urad dal only 2.99. that's a good deal
Lovely place! Pretty much all Indian items are available. Great place for grocery shopping especially if you are looking for Indian products!
So I’m married to an Indian. When my mother in law came to visit from India she would bring special spices, snacks, etc. with Patel Brothers - it’s as if we we’re in a Market in India. You literally get exactly what you get from India. Tell your Momma, Auntie, Dadi & Nani’s. Just pack your clothes!! We get everything here. No need to bring snacks 😂
Good place for buying specially for Indians. You get most of the things which have become part of your daily life.
Very nice array of Indian products at great bargains. Very similar to the same store in Jackson Heights, Queens N.Y., that I was familiar with since years ago, up until my move to Chicago in 2017. I will shop here again for sure.
Ok for indian groceries. Extremely crowded over the weekends. Prefer going on Mondays or Tuesdays (half of Devon is closed so parking will not be that difficult).
Be careful while buying Frozen stuff like coconut or vegetables. Had 2-3 instances where the stuff was bad ( must have thawed completely and then frozen again).
great placr for indian groceries. You will awesome froozen items like samosas, plain/stuffed parathas
An Indian store in Northern Chicago having all products of India - to the extent that some products which we don’t get easily in India(say MISAL, it is not available in Bangalore) is available in Patel Bros. Pricing of the products are competitive and the staff are customer friendly. May be, vegetable section requires improvement as some of the vegetables are not fresh.
Overall, it is a place where you feel at home, when you are away from home(India)
If yo are looking for Indian spices (from multiple brands) or even maggi (ruined American ketchup for me) - look no further. Worth the drive to Devon from south suburbs. Crowded but extremely helpful staff to help find whatever you are looking for.
You get all most all the Indian subcontinent's interesting and amazing commodities for cooking and related here. The price is less compared to the other Indian grocery stores. It's a big size store compared to other stores.
Patel brothers has two shops almost side by side. Bigger portion of one shop has fresh fruit and vegetables, also spice and other thing. Another shop has small portion for fruits and vegetables. But this shop has different kind of deshi sweets and snacks.
Very big Patel brothers which I have visited. Getting all Indian food items. Nice to visit.
They have everything. Period. Fresh produce. Helpful staff.
The original Indian grocery store in the US, this Chicago-based location is authentic as it gets. Find everything Indian from the widest assortment of vegetables to every lentil, spices and snacks. The frozen and ready-to-eat section is pretty sizable. Wish they were less crowded but that speaks to their popularity. Be prepared to park a few blocks away because Devon Ave is always crowded.
A big enough store with good selections. But they have started raising prices and they have stopped carrying some brands and only carry premium brands that make it more expensive. There are other small stores that are relatively cheaper. We now go here for "On Sale" items.
awesome place for all the people who love indian/asian food! cheap rates and wide range of item. visit and enjoy.
Great place for Indian groceries and food products.. Since they do not have any signs showing the items on each aisle.. you may have to ask the employee to find a particular product. They are very helpful
Friendly, user friendly and good for first timers. Good intro for those new to the cuisine☺
Aisle guide would be useful. But love the choice and familiarity
