How would you rate Mr. Brown's Lounge?
Unfortunately I was very dissapointed😔. There was no love in this food. I was hoping that some of the authenticity and yumminess of my north side faves had made it downtown. Unfortunately not. This food lacks flavor. The cabbage should just be called a salad. The plantains were decent but badly burned. The rice and peas were flavorless mush and the Jamaican patty was somewhat decent but still lacking. Also they forgot to put my ginger brew in my bag and I didn't notice until I made it home. I truly hope these reviews are taken serious and changes are made. I want to love it but definitely there needs to be improvement. Respect.
I was sadly disappointed. It took a while for the waiter (who was by himself) to get to us. A bit understandable. We put both our drink order and food order in at the same time. Our food showed up first. We were both done with our sandwich before the drinks showed up. There were 2 bar tenders who were both just chatting with people. Kinda peeved us off and made us feel unwelcome. When our drinks finally showed up, the waiter was stressed out enough that he spilled them. 15 minutes later, we got our drinks. One drink was great. The other was undrinkable. Not because it wasn't good, but because the crushed ice was to large. While the meat in the food was cooked perfectly and was delicious, the rest was common place. Limp lettuce. Dry veggies and Kraft Singles cheese (I'm not kidding). I feel for the waiter. He tried. He didn't mean to spill and he was genuine. But he was overworked while the others lounged around. Also, the table tired over if you put any weight on the left........
Everything was amazing. The food, the drinks, the service. We had the curry chicken, and it rocked our worlds. Most tender, succulent chicken I've ever had. Server was charming and sincere (something we hadn't yet experienced in Chicago). We had a great time and are heading back for seconds tonight!
This place is horrible, I'm never setting foot inside here again.
I've been sitting in this place for 2+ hours without getting my food. Every 15 minutes is another excuse, and now . . . now they are getting the food ready and packed up. 15 minutes later I'm still sitting here waiting on jerk chicken.
After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to going to this place. Me and my friend had a really nice waitress and the food was good, except for the hair we found in it. We did not tell her about the hair but were grossed out by it. Also the plantains were soggy and there rice with beans was cold, obviously microwaved. The drinks were all $10 to $13 a piece, which is fine if your a good bartender. However the rum punch was a 3.5 out of 5 stars, being I am a bartender myself. The shots are way overpriced and I probably will never go here again unless I'm invited by a friend. If you want a real Jamaican experience go to Ja Grill. Food is better and the rum punch is a 5 stars!!! Also the bartender here made us a long island that tasted like nothing but tequila and refused to accept his mistake.
Best Jamaican Jerk Chicken I've ever had this place is phenomenal not sure why the bad reviews but if you're looking for good Jamaican food definitely try out this place the chicken is phenomenal
NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN!
I've been here more times than I can count! The doorman turned us away because my male friend was wearing gym shoes. Immediately following three white males were gym shoes were allowed to enter.
Thanks air Mr. Brown. So much for patronizing black owned business in Chicago.
My family and I dropped in here while we were out shopping. We were so happily surprised that we had found such a solid restaurant. We had great service, our cocktails were delicious. We had chicken wings for an app. There were good and packed the heat. The Mac and cheese was perfect to balance out the spiciness. The jerk chicken sandwich was amazing with plantains right there with the jerk chicken, peppers, and cheese. Definitely recommended. The classic Jerk Chicken dinner was Massive. It comes with plantains, cabbage, a big bowl of rice and beans, and of course heaps of bone in chicken. This has the same sauce as the chicken wings and it did not disappoint.
As we left, we were already planning for our return visit.
Anytime you're downtown, you've gotta go!!
The food is pretty good. The atmosphere is great. The club owner was awesome. He catered to my friend for her birthday and made sure she was good. I will definitely come back.
Hands down, a one of my favorite spots to just dance my face off. Amazing DJ playing the best of reggae and dance hall. I *just* learned that they also have kitchen, so I just be spending more of my time and money in this spot.
Food was delicious despite the steak not being cooked as ordered.
Waiter was slow to greeting us, with a very lax and careless attitude. Took drink order, and failed to bring it out until the food was coming out, 20-30 min later, AFTER I had to ask him again...which he responded with blaming the bartender. Mind you this was around 330 pm and there were only 2 other tables in the restaurant that were occupied. Busy was not an excuse. Waiter never asked how our meals were, and was completely absent for most our time there. Ordering a drink and not getting it for 20-30 min after ordering it is one thing if he would have communicated with me that there was going to be a delay...but to be honest, he just flat out forgot about it. I know people make mistakes but being in a hospitality position, at least from what my knowledge and experience has taught me, you own your mistake, and you discount the bill for partial or all of YOUR mistake because no matter what...you messed up, not me, and not the bartender. Can't always blame the tenders for your lack of communication skills. A little "hey your drink won't be out for another 20 minutes" would have helped out his situation a lot. But the lack of communication and basically abandoning his job, lost him his tip and lost my interest for the restaurant entirely. Good food isn't as good without the service behind it.
Sat at a table for 30 minutes and was never greeted or acknowledged. Me and my guest were entirely ignored. The best part was when we decided to leave and employee asked if everything was ok, and we got to say "f off". That was satisfying.
Horrible, horrible...I've been to this place numerous time, but the quality is getting worse and worse with each visit. My husband and I order the Island Jerk Chicken dinner for takeout. When we got home, the rice and beans was regular white rice. They tried to conceal by putting gravy on top of it. We called several times no one answered the phone. When a woman finally answered after 10x of trying to call to inform about our order, she hung up the phone pretending not to hear us. My husband drove back only to receive a refund with no apology for the inconveniences or for giving us white rice with half done cabbage. We will never go here again.
Incredible food! Home made flavor and great atmosphere. The service is a bit lack luster but sitting closer to the bar seems to get you more attention. Hands down the Best jerk chicken ever. Reasonable prices for Amazing and authentic Caribbean eats.
Ok people it's been a long time since I went to Mr. Brown's the reason is bcuz they have really fail off. Let me explain they food was so good and tasting. Me and my sisters used to go almost every week or every other week for the Oxtails and drinks. It's really sad that a great business is going down the hill. So this Friday I decided that we should go out for our ladies nights at Mr. Brown's hoping that everything has changed and has gotten better. The food is a lot better than what it was but the service really sucks the same ole same ole sh** they don't greet you when u sit down no water is brought to the table it takes them forever to even come and take your order whoever Mr. Brown is he needs to get it together because he really need to read the reviews how people are being treated in his establishment. But I guess he don't care bcuz of Mr. Brown's #2.......Smh
Jerk chicken, plantains and rum punch! All solid choices, always. Rice can be a little hit or miss.
Service is great here but patience is always appreciated.
Went on a Friday night at 11:30. The music was good but most people were still at tables eating or ordering food. The bartender was rude and couldn't mix any specialty drinks (asked for a cherry bomb, Jaager bomb, and lemon drop, and got "no" three times before she walked away for another 10 min). Won't be back except for food possibly.
My husband and I went there for lunch on Sunday. Now, this place was hard to find, as it is on the Morton's side of the Hard Rock hotel, but what a find! The cabbage was flavorful, the jersey chicken was falling off the bone tender and the service was friendly. We were told there is live music on Thursday-Saturday night. We will definitely be back!!
I get something 1ce a week. Great food but a the phone service can be improved. That's why things are only once a week. I work late hours so I'm so last minute & some days that can't be accommodated. Other than that it's 1 of my favorite spots
I love this place. My kind of music and food 😻
This restaurant is great. The jerk was the best I've had in Chicago.
The staff was friendly and the food was delicious.
Cool place to eat and drink, music was very interesting. Loved jerk wings and island rum punch. Service could improve little but overall good time.
Slow service, good music
Decided to go after they finally re-opened for a favorite of mine, the jerk chicken sandwich on pita. First, the food took long, which is something that usually happens there, but if the food is good and hot, I don't mind the wait. We finally were given our food, not by our waitress but by someone else, which I assume was the manager on duty (blonde lady), she was not so friendly and basically just thew the plates on our table and walked away, didn't ask anything else. I noticed a different smell coming from my plate and as I look down, I see American cheese, grilled onions, red peppers all piled up on our sandwiches, which in all the years and times I've ordered this item, it never had any of this. They also forgot to bring me the extra jerk sauce I requested upon placing my order. Our waitress was working alone so I understand she couldn't attend to us, so we waved the same person down that dropped off our plates and I asked what was all this stuff on my sandwich. She said that's how it came. I told her that I was a long time customer, since the location opened and never had all this been on the sandwich. I also showed her the description on the menu which read, "lettuce and tomato", nowhere did it say anything about all the extra things added. She then proceeded to tell me that the menu was changed, I then told her, well it's not in print. She then seem to have been bothered and finally offered if we would like our sandwiches fixed. My friend didn't want to deal with is, so he just took off all the extra stuff. I told her, yes please for mine. I want to taste the jerk sauce, not grilled onions, red peppers, or American cheese. I could've just gone to any other place for a chicken sandwich on a pita if that were the case. So she takes my plate and returns about 5 minutes later, which I found odd since it took more than a 30 minutes to get my sandwich when I first ordered it. They removed all that other extra stuff and just threw jerk sauce on it, and the same old piece of soggy lettuce and tomato from the original sandwich. Not sure what's going on here, but most places just make a fresh one when there is a mistake, not recycle the same sandwich. Still no extra jerk sauce on the side as I had originally asked, so I had to flag her down again and she brought it back like it was such a hard task. I really wanted to be happy that this place had opened back up, but not sure if I will return after this. No apologies were given, no complimentary anything for the inconvenience, just no type of customer service at all. I also miss the plaintain chips that they used to bring while you wait for your meal. Not sure who's running the place now, but these changes I'm seeing are not positive so far. I hate to have to give this place 1 star, but maybe you should look into who your staff is and update your menus. Our waitress was nice, but she needed help, no complaints on her, or the music. Just the food and the horrible customer service by your "manager on duty" blonde lady.
Small venue. Really "intimate". There are good DJs there sometimes on a Saturday night that play a good variety of music. It can get packed pretty quickly. The food is good.
Service is hit or miss and sometimes the jerk chicken can be a bit on the dry side but the oxtail and curried goat are always good.
Mr. Brown's Lounge is the place to be delicious and terrific good Jerk food ever. Nice setting and well layer out.... I Love It and My husband Love It...
My favorite place i live in Dolton il. And i make it my business to come here!! The food is off the chain!! Keep it up!!!
Bartender was nice when she finally came around. One of us ordered mac n cheese was told it would be 15 minutes, not a problem since we were killing time and had planned to be there at least another hour. Well it finally came, as we paid our tab over an hour later. She was nice enough to comp it, hence the 3 stars and not 2. If you're in a hurry, I'd pass on this place. But, if you're on island time, go for it. 😉
Good music. Cool vibe. Great food! Added to my favs!
Best Jerk Restaurant , food is excellent, great atmosphere.
I haven't been here in years and the food was delicious, wait staff was really cool, cordial and down to earth, I'll be back soon.
This place is great! Rozzi, the bartender was perfect! She had my food and drinks coming out quick and delicious. The spot itself is really amazing! Absolutely love it!
I've never written a review but did so because the staff was rude. Normally I try to work out differences with the staff or go elsewhere. I attempted to set up a Meetup @ this location. I was really excited about going and finding a Caribbean spot. I called, a very rude lady answered the phone & cut me off when I tried to describe to her what I needed (so the Mgr. could make a decision) and if they could accommodate.
I was told to cut it short (not verbatim), and "that's why you can tell the Manager" and that the Manager would get back in touch. The manager called after a week (by then I had made arrangements with Smoke Daddy BBQ). She attempted to be accommodating but to me it was more a courtesy call so I couldn't say she NEVER called back.
Bottom line: I asked to bring my group in during a slow period, we would sit/talk/Meetup/eat & drink for 3 hours and I was clear that the group would not just take up space, that we spend $$$ & would support the venue as of course they're a business (we normally spend about $300 every time we meetup).
I didn't like the rude customer service and the young lady on the phone inspired me to write quite a negative review when I've never written ANY review before.
This is a place I would've gone to on my own and also brought my friends to when we were in the mood for a Caribbean vibe or to learn more about Jamaican culture. I now make sure I steer people the other way.
Could have been me, maybe I didn't explain it right but I wrote this review for the management to let them know you missed out on a very good customer, I know a lot of people and they often ask my recommendation.
Mr. Brown's won't go out of business because of losing me. But it would be helpful if you didn't alienate potential clients who would have been more than happy to bring you business.
Great Rum Punch ! Food was terrible! I had to send my food back because it was burned. Only to order something else that was severely overcooked. Great customer service!
Authentic Jamaican food and music. Full service bar and after 10 pm thete is s DJ and dancing with a late night menu.
Too high on liqour and beer. One beer is 4 dollars thats bad. Dont want to spend that much on one bottlewjen i can buy a six pack for that price
The bartender was rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful! Her name is Dominque. My party and I reported her to the manager Kim, she(Kim) totally ignore our concerns and sided with Domique the rude bartender, The CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS BEYOND HORRIBLE! I plan on talking to the owner.
Poor service even when the place is slow. The drinks were awful and was overcharged for items we didn't even order. Good music and vibe though.
Food still ok, the vibe and service not the same since Yvette left
Chil, cool vibe and cool music. Live DJ spinning tunes while good drinks and good food are served. The jerk spiced chicken is the best thing on the menu for sure. On Sundays, the special is $5 for 10 grilled wings. Huge and a great deal for sure. Service was definitely a bit more island-paced, but overall it was a cool hangout.
I am a bit perplexed by the negative reviews this establishment has received. The service was bested only by the food. We had the Jamaican omelet as well as the fruit punch. Both were excellent.
Food is great but it seems they never have enough wait staff.
Good food poor service, Don't answer phone when its slow or packed. Come to place order you wait 45mins to an hour. I hate this place just can't be great do better. Few years ago had a gathering here thee worst service ever . I just try to carry out when I'm in the area If I can get them to answer the phone!
My husband is from st lucia and we took his brother and his wife for a taste of home. The food was average at best the service wasn't great and the price made it all hard to swallow. The music was okay and the drinks were good
This place was so bad, we had to walk out. It's overpriced, and at 2:01 the lunch "special" ends. We had a much better time at feed, thank you very much.
We went on a Saturday night and the music could be a bit better. The actual jerk dinners are delicious. The drinks could be stronger.
The food was okay, nothing really stands out. The chicken is very soft and moist but everything else was very disappointing. The Mac & Cheese looked like it was microwaved. I must say, that the music was really good.
Went a couple weeks ago and looked forward to trying it out after other friend's reviews. Walked in on a Saturday night, three empty tables were available but no one was around to seat us. Asked the bartender if it was ok to sit anywhere and she was very curt, said it would be a 30 minute wait, but didn't offer to take our names or offer anything else. Acted like it was a chore to even talk to us. Walked out and went and had some great food down the street. Won't bother coming back.
The jerk chicken entree was great. Came with beans & rice, fried bananas and a cabbage, pepper blend. Luckily the Red Stripes were $2 off. The ambience is relaxing and the service is friendly.
Very chill spot, great service and awesome jerk chicken. Ask For the Rum Punch if you feel like getn Tipsy quick...
Very chic bar with Jamaica influences and design. The food is good and the drinks are reasonable. It's two locations and they have events like karaoke night.
The place is very clean and tidy however the waiter occupied with other coustomers , he was friendly upon arriving to our table, you have to pay 1$ extra for condiments but hey FREE refills on the soda the food is a 1.9 wings seemed a bit burnt but masked with jerk sauce the cabbage was horrible it was like eating raw head of lettuce ... The vibe was cool and mellow and music ...Suprised because I’ve heard so many great things about this place.
Looking for houses in the neighborhood so my wife and I are trying out all the restaurants in the area. Came here on a Friday night for early dinner. I ordered the ox tail (only available on certain days of the week), and it was tender and full of flavors. My wife's entree was very good, too. Definitely making this place a regular spot after we move here.
Great food, music and vibe. If you're not into a big crowd, I would suggest don't go on Thursday or Saturday nights. They have a nice bar and the staff is friendly and very helpful.
Worst service I've ever had. I'd probably get better service at a kkk rally. I sat down and the bartender/ waitress didn't say a thing. She just sat down and started folding napkins. I asked could I order but she didn't say a thing..... Wow
Always a good time here. Strong and afforbale drinks. Nice music and grown and matured ambience.
I consider myself pretty lucky for living next door to this place. The chicken has so much flavor and all of the ingredients are super fresh. Really good wings deal on Sunday, plus outdoor seating if it's nice out. Always a buzzy vibe here on summer weekend nights.
Food is good but service is TERRIBLE. Today was my first and last time going here!
I was on a date, we walked in, weren’t greeted or acknowledged so we sat ourselves and still weren’t approached by the waiter for another 15 minutes. Once we finally ordered we never saw the waiter again until he was bringing our food like 35 minutes later. We were not there during a busy time, there was a small party in the back, and our table, that was it as far as guests in the restaurant. The wait was never the issue, just the lack of customer service and attentiveness.
Literally the best Jerk in Chicago. The most tender chicken. Rice and cabbage seasoned to perfection. If you have time, stay and listen to some reggae. If you don't, the to go plate will make you just as s happy.
This place is nice to stop for a quick bite & a GREAT RUM PUNCH. THE FOOD IS OK NOT BAD BUT NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT. WOULDN'T BE MY 1ST STOP FOR JERK CHICKEN. THE SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE THE BAR MAIDS WERE RUDE & DON'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE YOU WHEN YOU SIT ON THEIR BAR! THEY CONSISTENTLY WALKED PASSED US WITHOUT AS MUCH A GREETING!! WHEN THEY FINALLY STOPPED TO ANSWER A QUESTION THEY COULDN'T ANSWER IT!! WE WERE LOOKING TO EAT & THEY SAID WE MIGHT BE OUT OF JERK CHICKEN NEVER TOLD US & CONTINUED TO LET US JUST SIT IN THE BAR WITHOUT ASKING WOULD WE LIKE A DRINK SNACK OR ANYTHING !! ONE BAR MAID EVEN ATOP TO HAVE SHOTS WITH FRIENDS RIDICULOUS !! THANK GOD FOR THE PARIS BECAUSE WE WERE HEADED FOR THE DOOR. SHE IS ALSO A BAR MAID & A WAITRESS & SEEMED A LOT LIKE A MANAGER SHE FINALLY GREETED US ASKED HAD WE BEEN WAITED ON !!. THANKS AGAIN PARIS FOR YOUR IMPECCABLE SERVICE. IF YOU DO DECIDE TO VISIT I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO GO ON WEDNESDAYS OR FRIDAYS OR SATURDAYS WHEN PARIS IS WORKING!! MR. BROWN U NEED TO HAVE PARIS TRAIN THOSE OTHER TWO BAR MAIDS SIR!! HOPEFULLY YOU WILL TRAIN YOUR STAFF TO BE MORE FRIENDLY & PROFESSIONAL!! WE WILL GIVE YOU GUYS ONE LAST SHOT!!
This place was great. Came here on a Friday night. got great quick service. Good bartender. Great food and rum punch! Try the jamacian chicken stew.
I usually have a good experience here, but last night was another story. The wait time was ridiculously long. My friend and I seated ourselves. We waited at our table for ten minutes before we were given a menu for food and drink options. We waited another 15 minutes before our order was taken. We then waited an additional 40 minutes before we were served our food and drinks.
My friend and I ordered the same thing, which was an order of Bbq buffalo wings and an order of macaroni and cheese. To drink, we both ordered a Blue Motherf****r. This should've been a pretty easy order to take because it was for two of the same thing. The night continued to go downhill from them. Our drinks were watered down, so we didn't bother to order any other drinks. Our waitress forgot part of my order so I had to wait for her to bring me my order of macaroni and cheese. The waitress didn't bring me any utensils with my order so I had get her attention once again to ask for some. I waited five minutes for utensils until I decided to ask another worker for some. The other worker respected my request and immediately brought me some utensils from the kitchen.
Overall, our time here last night was okay. I'm giving this place three stars because the food and music was good. Hopefully the service is better the next I visit, so I can increase my rating.
Wings were decent. Drink was phenomenal. I choked a little on it cause she (bartender) did not play with mixing it and I will come back for that fact alone.
If you like spicy plenty of delicious selections. Other flavorful choices that are not spicy are served as well. The ambiance is smooth and welcoming. Certain nights theres caribean music. Staff is super friendly and very welcoming!
Food was good. Only complaint is we were the first in the restaurant and our appetizer did not come until 15 minutes after we finished our meal. While two other received their appetizers We just asked for it to go. Hostess was very nice.
If Yvette isn't working the service is terrible , the food is good though. They purposely leave they phone off the hook at times so calling in an order can be difficult. I have witness that happening at least 5 times. They chef obviously needs help cooking because he is always backed up with orders. I gave 2 stars only because of Yvette & the food being good.
This was the first time I have gone there.
We had hot wings and fried bananas.
The restaurant has a Jamaican flare to it.
The food was great, the service was excellent and the pricing was reasonable.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
Went with 6 friends, told it was fine to split the check. We sit down and order, and it takes 15 minutes to get our water. It then takes 10 more minutes to get our drinks. We get our food about an hour into everything. My po-boy was fine, but my friend's veggie burger was absolutely sub-par. Took us an hour to get out of there after we were done eating, and only then did they tell use we could only split the check 5 ways. All in all, poor food and poor service. Not worth it.
Drinks, decor and Food is perfect. Service is aloof, which is ok for many but I had clients in took them there and I was hoping for a bit faster...read this and 327 more
