How would you rate CEI Hair Schools?
This institution has been a blessing to me. I moved here 2 yrs ago unemployed w/ limited funds. CEI was referred to me and the services have helped me stay confident while job searching and eventually assisted me in getting my job (my haircut was on point and gave me the confidence I needed). The barber at the time gave me encouraging words and affirmation that I'd get the job... And I did. I still come for services cause the atmosphere is the best and I enjoy seeing others learning and working towards their career. I don't think you all know how you help advance many lives. Thanks for all you do.
I love the staff here. Everyone is very professional, clean and respectful. My Beautician Ms. Tammy is awesome!! The Instructor Ms.Dee is great and it shows in her students work. I had an awesome experience and very satisfied. Thanks again CEI.. Yours truly, SATISFIED CUSTOMER.
My first time there was a great experience the staff is very friendly. I really like my haircut the barber did a great job and i was able to pay less than the other shops and still get a good ihaircut. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Thanks brother Malik.
Awesome place and fast service I went in kinda iffy but the stylist took great care of me and the instructor was never far away just in case we needed anything. I recommend this place to my sister and her hair turned out great too you can not beat the prices !!
I am so glad that I listen to my girlfriend and came here at CEI Hair School. They did a wonderful job on my hair. I received so many complimmany on my hair, so that made me come back and get my hair done again. Also Ms. Jackson is a FANTASTIC Instructor. She made my experience JOYFUL. I wish I could give them all a 10 Stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is my third time going to this beauty school and I must say the first time was horrible. I tried to give it the benefit of a doubt and go a second time. The second time the students by the name Sebastian was amazing. He washed and condition my hair he talked to me about my hair health and my silk press was banging. Now, my third time I didn't get Sebastian, I got a wonderful young lady named Key. This time I asked for a permanent color and silk press. The problem with this visit is not the students it's the instructor Dee. Key advised her that the color did not take, I have dark patches all over and even my crown has dark patches. The instructor Dee just said it was OK and had her deep condition my hair. Now after being in the beauty school for 2hrs. Dee the instructor had to finish my silk press and what a hot mess it is. She rushed through it and put way to much product in my hair. My hair feels like crap and I know she could see how jacked up my color is. Dee the instructor kept stopping and rushed to get me out the chair. I didn't have time to complain because I had already spent 3hrs there and I had to go to work. Trust me I won't be back! I could have done better myself. I give it a major thumbs down. On top of that this mess of a hair style cost me $40.
So far my journey as a future Nail technician is going amazing! I like how I receive and retain a lot of information in class. I came to this school because I was very impressed with the program. I am happy I took that steps to become apart of the CEI Hair School family. Also, the instructors and Ms. D are here to help you anytime. Achieving success in 4 months! I finally feel like I am building my future day by day of course with hard work and dedication!
CEI HAIR SCHOOL IS AMAZING! Endless opportunities for advancement have been brought my way. Mr. Dontez is my favorite instructor! You will learn everything you need to know if you're fortunate enough to take his classes!
CEI has some of the best instructors who are knowledgeable about the curriculum needed to become a licensed barber or cosmetologist. They all have extensive experience in the classroom and real world that will allow you to have to the edge you need to be successful in the industry.
I'm a Cos student, it's a small school so the instructors are very hands on and they are all about us learning. Mr. Shawn and Mr. Dontez are always critiquing even if we feel we have it 100% they taught us we can always get better. Mr. Chaz makes the long days go by so much faster and Ms. Dee has a long list of graduates she keeps up with and is very proud of. I'm next!!! Most affordable program as well.
The opportunities afforded to me while at CEI have truly had an impact on my personal and professional development as a nail enthusiast. Mr. Dontez is the epitome of a quality instructor. I have learned so much under his instruction as he challenges me daily to grow and perfect my gift. I love my CEI family.
It was going well until the instructor cut most of my hair off. Challenging attitude - quote "you cut hair"... not customer friendly. I said nothing. Didn't want walk out bald. Just another visitor to the city and will not be coming back. Student Barber did his part. *****
This is a excellent hair school. I have been getting my hair cut here for past two years. I want thank CEI for a great experience. I recommend you to come to CEI.
Young cordial men who work here. Very nice and professional, they really took care of my little brother. I recommend it to anyone who needa to get lined up!
I would recommend anyone to this school. Very professional every time i come. The students are excellent
At times, the wait can be overwhelmingly long because not enough students to serve clients. I normally give myself adequate time just in case; once seated, I normally walk out satisfied with the cut requested. Overall, I am please with the service. For the price, it's worth rhe wait. Remember that these are students in training.
Amazing group of students and staff. Debt free LICENSURE! What an amazing gift for our community.
Whew! Best hairstyle from a Beauty school EVER! Reasonable prices, GREAT experience, welcoming & genuine caring students❤❤❤
I have bern here Several times. Wash n Press, Sew-in, Trim. These are Students and as a whole they do Excellent work! Much better than any of the other schools within a 35 mile radius
Don't come here if you need a guaranteed service. Their business hours aren't even posted. They told us to come back at 5pm for a cut because they were closed at 3pm. We came back at 5 and they said they were closed for the day. Complete waste of time, find another hair school.
I had a terrible experience here on Tuesday Jan. 23, 2018. I waited my turn for over 30minutes and never once complained about it. I was then told to go to a certain chair where the young man was pleasantly waiting and started with my haircut. I explained how I wanted haircut and he began. Granted this is a school, I have had pleasant experiences before. Before I was actually done getting my haircut the instructor came up from behind and told me that it was about time I got up and that others were waiting. I was appalled he told me that I had a time limit and that's the way it was. I addressed the manager and was not satisfied and the issue wasn't addressed. As a business owner you want to keep my business you should try and satisfy your customers. Crazy place.
Student barber cut me twice I didn't make an issue about it. "LJ" comes over to assist and when I tried to confirm what he was doing he got irate with ME. I hopped out the chair and left. Foul language. No professionalism.
As a recent graduate this school was a true blessing. I was able to complete 1500 hours of service in 9 months. All the instructors are very knowledgeable and have tons of experience. They teach entrepreneurship as well as technique and have become mentors to me. Miss Dee does a lot to help her students succeed and knows her stuff. Mr. L.J and Mr. Sutton are two of the best with teaching technique and theory and I can't forget the all-knowing Mr. Chaz. Thanks CEI family.
This place always come through with good service and barbers highly recommend....
If I could give this place zero stars I would. The “Instructor” Ms. Dee is very unprofessional as an instructor and she puts her hands on students if they don’t do things that’s up to her speed. DO NOT ATTEND this “school.”
Blessed to do what I love and empower young people with debt free education! Sometimes it's tuff the slander, the crazy schedules, difficult times we live in but nothing compares to the satisfaction of seeing them licensed!
Every time I come here I feel discriminated against because of my sexuality they don’t give respect and always let people jump in front me and expect me not to be mad
Point blank period. The young lady messed my hair up. I asked to have my hair dyed, ends cut and soft finger waves for my style. When the young lady figured out that she ain't know what she was doing I was passed to another stylist who also didn't know what she was doing. So finally 3 hours later due to a rewash another young lady skinny dark skinned with glasses ended up pulling it off with the moose and I loved it. Let me let it be known I have natural hair.. Gotta do better
I go there all the time. College students gets 2 bucks off but I always tip because they’re pretty talented for a bunch of students. Only thing I wish they had was a display of the times they close the shops for class so I can get in there before then. I’ve missed a few cuts because of it but I’m not upset.
Very good school my son is finishing up and they did so much for him in teaching and also being a real friend also caring he never thought he will finish but he did thanks a lot to the owner and the teachers great job 😀😀😀😀😀♥️♥️♥️♥️
Would of been a better experience if I didn't get kicked out for my "attitude & attendance" according to Deedria. I missed about 4 days of school, I made sure to talk with her and let her know about everything when I didn't want her to know personal business. According to her, 4 days was 70% of my attendance... I was talking with a student about how I wish my school hours & the new job I had just got, after being unemployed for about 2 months, could both work together. Deedria decided to talk to me about it because she "heard" what I was saying, she decided to tell me that she doesn't think I am happy and will send me somewhere else, also got banned from the school, lol don't know how when I wasn't turning up. It's been about a year now, still haven't received the rest of my documents she said she had for me and also my hours I completed plus all of the extra credit she was supposed to give, I don't know if the extra credit really matter..first time student here. But I have reached out to her mutiple times about my documents and she continuously gives excuses. I wouldn't really recommend this school for anyone...well maybe for the people that really got there money together since Deedria would have pop ups going on to where you have to buy this and that. I'll never forget the time she tried to force all the student's and teachers to buy a her CEI $20 shirts for whoever was attending the event after graduation for the lately students last year, that was ridiculous. It got even more ridiculous after she told me I had to pay for a shirt AFTER just telling us all that whoever is going to be a model, host, etc in the event will not have to pay for the shirts. I remember 2 weeks before school started, I asked her about the kit that was supposed to come with my $300 scholarship deal, and she told me that I should be fine if I have the basics. On the first day of school, she gave all of the students a kit list that we had to go buy, just wish I got a heads up 2 weeks before when I asked and also thought it was supposed to come with my scholarship deal...... Well my mother was right about going to a uncredited school, kind of get what you ask for, especially if you cant back it up, like with money, what I didn't really have.
I have went here as a client. But I decided to go as a student. Let me say this for this school. The owner is a wonderful lady. I dont really even know her but when I have interacted with her. She was sincere. Yes she is busy but she has a business to run. These people are learning so you expect some people to not know certain things. It's a school people. So be kind with your reviews. This place is a great thing for the community. We as blacks have so little we own and this is an amazing atmosphere. I start school on the 30th of July. I'm so excited and honored to be attending this school. It's a dream of mines and I'll be debt free when I do start. Cant beat that and she has an amazing instructors. This my honest review. As a person who has been there and experienced these things myself. Bless this school and the effort the owner is making to better us and up lift our proud people.
I've Been To This School Twice To Get My Hair Done. And I've Got It Done With No Problem. I've Been To This School 2 Times Not In The Same Day. The First Time I Went They Was Closing Before Time. Second Time I Went They Was Closed. I've Called The School Three Times. The Last Time I Called And Asked For The Schedule And She Gave It To Me. Soon I Got Off The Phone I Was On My Way. Then When I Got Their A Young Lady Told Me They Was Closed. The All I Wanted Was Some Finger Waves With A Couple Pieces Of Weave In The Top Curled. So I Went Back Today Sit For A While Left And Washed My Hair Came Back Still No One Their To Do Finger Waves. I Could've Went And Gave My Beautician But I Wanted To Go And See Someone Else Work And Give Money To Someone Else. It's A School I'm Quite Sure Every Young Lady Start Off With Finger Waved But Now Don't No One Wants To Do Them. It Was 5 Women In Their Two Wasn't Doing Hair. One Was And The Other Two One Was A Teacher Teaching Another Student. I Understand Stuff Happens, But Everyday?
THIS program IS ONLY MEANT FOR people who can SELF EDUCATE themselves. Monday-Wednesday are dedicated for classroom READ ALONGS. Thursday & Friday you hit the floor to work on an actual mannequin and maybe clients if you've gained enough experience.
NO homework is assigned, yet you must prepare for an exit exam.
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
If you care about yourself DO NOT attend this "school". There's no type of organization here! All they want is your money and the sad part is all you are really paying for is the hours required by the state in order to get licensed not an education. They claim to offer scholarships but when you ask about them you are given the run around or told they are not being offered at this time. Save yourself the headache there are schools out there that actually care unlike this one.
Student have to CLEAN after class. You pay to go there yet you are expected to clean and take trash out which makes no sense because students are there to learn not to clean a facility. DO NOT get your hair washed! There are pieces of hair in the shampoo, the place is unsanitary overall I NEVER see anyone wash their hands before taking a client. This school is so unorganized im surprised they are still in business.
My experience here has been great thus far! I had ZERO experience prior to enrolling and i have learned a ton! The barber instructor is very knowledgeable about barbering techniques and the business. Ms. D makes sure everyone is on point and growing in their craft. If you are serious about entering the profession this is a great place to start
students are now required to "buy a $15 cei t shirt" yet the teachers do not have to buy it and it is NOT in the contract you sign when you start your program. The tuition is cheap for a reason, you definitely get what you pay for! the laptop used to clock in doesn't work half the time so you have to email the owner to get your hours fixed , the teachers are not professional, and hours are taken from you if you don't take trash out and clean areas you didn't even use. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
I have been attending CEI since February and I am learning so much. Being around so many African Americans that are so accomplished and connected makes you feel at home. Graduating debt free is Deedria's main goal.
I have no idea how this rating came to be. I am a real person, but I never visited this place or even had a reason to. Im not even really sure what this place is. I simply received an email about a response to a review I supposedly had written. Do not believe everything you read people.
I am a mother of young children. The owner of CEI gave me a full scholarship and is allowing me to attend one day a week. I went to two other well known cosmetology school before CEI amd I owe quite a bit of money and wasn't able to finish due to lack of support and a schedule I couldn't live with.
Without CEI and the compassion for my situation, I wouldn't be able to become a cosmetologist, which I very much want to be. I can't wait to graduate and be able to do beauty full time, and support myself doing what I am most drawn to.
It is hard now, I have to maintain family, finances, and myself. I don't even get to practice much outside of school. When I am in school that one day a week though, I feel like I am doing what I love and look forward to that one day a week like I would a vacation. Thank goodness for CEI. I thought I would never get to get through school to do this career I look forward to and already love!
It’s crazy how she promised to issue us a refund after thirty days from the requested refund date which was October 4, 2018. It is now November 12 and you think we heard anything about a refund? Hell nah. We have emailed and called and get no response. I have threatened to take it to court and still no budge. As of now, my wife and I are tired of going back and forth with these people and this “business”.
Update - these lies are ridiculous, nobody was “waiting” on anything. I have the emails that says you will refund us back in 30 days from the day of request and Another email that says you will be only refunding $75 back TOTAL from $1100. It honestly didn’t even have to get this far. This is not how we like to do business by leaving negative reviews on black owned companies. Nobody has time for all of these games, and if my wife still wants to sue you, that’s her option. The same as it was your option to refund us an equitable amount and you chose the latter. Which is now fine because we all have options. I sent you an email twice yesterday and received auto replies back from the same email you use and called the school multiple times. There’s no reason why I needed to come here to get a response from y’all.
I visited the school today, for the first time. I thought Marcia was doing a pretty good job at the services that I requested (wash, blow dry, trim and flat iron). However, as she began to trim my ends, the owner came over, told her that she was spending way too much time on my hair, took the scissors, ask the stylist to step out of the way and began CUTTING my hair!! As she is cutting she says very bluntly, "this is dead hair, why are you holding on to dead hair? This needs to go!" She then accused the stylist of using Grease in my hair after she says she didn't! Marcia tried to diffuse the situation, by asking her how her New Year is going but the owner continued with her erratic behavior. She continued to publicly shame the stylist by telling her that she needed to work on her time management. I felt sorry for the stylist, as I thought she was very personable and showed a genuine interest in my hair. In the future I hope that the owner learns to treat her students with dignity and respect especially in the face of the clients (You never know who may be visiting your establishment). In the event that a stylist is NOT performing to your standards try to make it a "teachable moment" instead of reprimanding in public. Let's try to uplift one another!
Great boys cut from a student, I believe his name was Darryl. We got a line up and a low bald fade. The shop opens at 11am, we waited maybe 10 min for the guys to set up and we were out of there by noon. My barber was professional and efficient and my 11 Year old was very happy with his cut. I was observing the other barbers, they all seem as though they will be very successful.
$5 for a cut plus tip. Pleased with the cut I got. Could be more sanitary. I'd go back.
POOR customer service. Ran down building. NEVER answer the phone. This school is a SCAM!!! The owner is dishonest. Do not trust them. Go else where. These 5 star reviews are fraudulent. Don’t believe the hype.
CEI is The school to attend I’ve learned so much in such a short amount of time , your hours are dependent on you and your performance and our educators are the best .
this "school" is a scam. They claim to have such good state board passing rates but don't ever tell you how many students actually sign up and graduate. you can find the "owner's" mugshot on google, she isn't professional.
Note every time someone leaves a bad review the owner responds by saying its "fake". The owner of this school used to own "cutting edge barber institute" in clayton county it even ended up on the news because Deedria lied to veterans trying to get an education & just took their money. makes you wonder why that "school" isn't open anymore.........
This is the best decision I've ever made for me and my GIRLS. THE instructors are amazing. They give you step by step instructions on how to succeed in the industry . I chose CEI for the instructor program. I was ready to take exam in 18 months. It took 18 months because I traveled from TEXAS once a month. I'm very thankful and blessed to be a part of the CEI TEAM !!!!!
the owner scammed veterans at another "school" she owned in jonesboro GA. do your research it was cutting edge barber institute. shes even on ripoffreport, be careful!
Wow. I was going to come here, but after hearing the owner justify bad behavior is very unprofessional. Thanks to the person who commented about their experience. My first thought was that the owner was having a bad day, but it goes beyond that. The OWNER actually came on here to JUSTIFY the behavior instead of working to win the person back. That put a bad taste in my mouth. Not good. You guys need to work on that and treat people better, if that's the case. Someone is trying to help you improve your services and just like you felt your student needed correction, why can't you take correction yourself? Are you too high and mighty to believe you need to do better too?
They're unprofessional Instead of them being honest and telling me they couldn't do my daughter's hair. The clerk at the front desk told me that they would be able to do it.they lied and told me they can do her hair that was at 3:47 p.m. today The clerk at the front desk told me that they open back up at 5 o'clock she ensured that they would be able to do my daughter hair. So I went back to Pay the $20 at the hair school.I had other employees telling me why would I want to choose a hairstyle That doesn't work for them. Then lady persuade me and my daughter to get hair done A different Way. I asked What she wanted different. I want to the hair store. To by the hair One of the employees came across the street and told me I was buying the wrong hair. I was paying more out of my pocket Then what I asked for I am very disappointed I did not get my money back I Left I'm gonna go pay someone else professional to do my daughter's hair. To go to this Hair Salon school it's ridiculous. I would never recommend no one to get their hair done here. July 1, 2019
So CEI was running a special of $650 for their cosmetology program. I paid my tuition and upon seeing the school decided to withdrawal. Mind you you are eligible for a refund if you have never attended. I withdrew and was NEVER given a penny back after doing so. The owner is extremely unprofessional, and it shows by the looks of her business. To be honest, I’m not even sure if this school is accredited... So you should probably look into that as well. I was given the run around and told to dispute my charges after she lied and said it takes 30 days to receive my refund. First of all, who tells you to dispute a charge??? But anyways... upon her telling me to dispute the charge I find out that after 2 months there is nothing my bank can do about it. Long story short, this school is nothing short of a scam. All these 5 star reviews are fake and probably a form of extra credit that the students receive for doing so. Trust and believe every horror story you’ve read with poor reviews and take notice to how unprofessional she is when addressing them. I’d love to see what response/lies she has for this one. Extremely disappointed in this business. People like her are the reason for the lack of support shown to black businesses.
UPDATE: YOUR SITE (which i have screenshotted) Says that you issue a refund and the cancellation fee is $100... So explain why I haven’t received not 1 penny back??? You didn’t address any other facts stated in this. Also, if you all don’t believe me, Just google her name, where her shot will appear and an article of her scamming veterans out of their money as well:-). The nerve of you to even respond. You steady running specials and haven’t paid me my money, City girl.
I work up the street from this place in the state office building & a co-worker & myself went to this location in Atlanta for a number of reasons. She wanted to inquire about loc re-twist and I need to finish only two classes before I can take the state board. I wanted to obtain info on the school & program since it was so close to where I work it would've been so convenient for me. Well, we walked inside (ignoring the rundown look) & every instructor & student present looked us dead in our faces and not one soul in the building greeted us or even spoke! STRIKE ONE!!! I was already ready to go after that but my co-worker is a bit more forgiving than me. After we stood there in the doorway without being greeted for about 3-4 minutes she (co-worker) walked up to an instructor who was just sitting on a stool (he saw us come in & was one of the ones who did not greet nor ask if we needed assistance). He IMMEDIATELY seemed agitated & before she could even get the entire question out he interrupted her by saying "Oh, that's on the other side! (pointing behind him) You have to go over there for that. THIS is the classroom." (Like we were supposed to know). We then walk to the "other side" & guess what people.....NO ONE WAS OVER THERE!!! People just walked by & no one ever offered help. We waited for a while before we just walked out. The instructor was still in the same spot. No goodbye, come again, did you get what you needed? NOTHING. STRIKE TWO!!!! Reading the reviews I believe what the people say & judging by the responses directly from the owner I see why we were treated this way. This type of UNCOUTH & unprofessional behavior is why its so hard to patronize black owned businesses. How we were treated (like we were bothering them) was just wrong & ridiculous. If I could rate the company negative stars & warn people to STAY FAR FAR AWAY I would. Try Empire Beauty School!! They train to be professional AND can do so while upholding the state board rules & regulations. I'm not sure why they have 4 stars...it should be a -10 just off my experience alone.
It’s sad when you send your child to get her hair done an she looks the same way she did when she left home. My daughter went to get her hair wash pressed an trim the girl that did her hair did not trim her hair at all. I read the reviews an I keep seeing from the instructor is state board this an state board that well that student not going to be ready for state board. If you not there to do hair but need so many hours to run a salon get the most out of the class. No one answering the phone to hear my concern I just want my girl hair trimmed she paid for it wit her hard earn money.
So when first walking into the establishment I prejudge what I thought my experience would be but to my surprise everyone was very kind. They kept me laughing and right away it gives the home atmosphere! So many people recommended the place so I took my woman their to get her hair done and the stylist did a remarkable job she came home looking like a model off an ebony magazine cover! Just know my woman and I had a great night!
Walking I was greeted with welcoming smiles and everyone looked hard at work and books opened learning. Which I didn’t expect books as well I thought it’ll be more like the average schools I’ve seen but it book learning and hands on. Any ways a friend was getting a fade and it looked great and the barber make sure he met my friends need and we both walked out happy.
I attended this school from Philadelphia, and the program was fantastic. Mrs. Dee does a great job with educating her students . Shes puts a lot into what she does . I would highly recommend this school to anyone . The experience is definitely one to remember. Keep up the good work . It’s because of teachers like her, one who motivates her students to always strive for the best!
My first thoughts walking into the building wasn’t the best but you can’t judge a book by its cover. Excellent services and a timely manner too. Wish the had a good vending machine but I love my lashes and my nails. Thank you ladies. You all rock. 💋
Every time I come into the school I’m greeted promptly with a smile. Everyone always seems eager to help. I refer all my friends looking to get their education and training in cosmology to this school. I highly recommend!!!!
I love this school they have been servicing my care patients every week with ease. I wish there was more than one location. Anyways keep up the great work. God blessed you all.
The work that they do my 7 year old niece can do better my son looks looked better before he went the after is a horrible mess the owner will not answer the...read this and 5 more
