How would you rate Bright Starr Pediatric Dentistry?
I was very pleased with our experience. The office was inviting as well as kid friendly. I was able to bring my 5 month daughter along with my son for his first dental appointment that was great for him. He received the doctor along with her staff openly (shocker). I have started referring my friends to bring their children to Bright Starr. I have a found a great pediatric dentist.
Now that we got the appointment day and time right I have to say I really like Dr. Starr. She was patient and playful with my daughter to make her feel comfortable. Very clean waiting room full of toys and books and stuffed animals in all the waiting chairs.. It's located right in the shopping center I frequent daily so it's very convenient without having to drive too far!! See ya in 6 months!!
Dr. Starr is very gentle and patient with the children. I take my granddaughter to her office and she loves visiting Dr. Starr and greets her with a really big hug. The office is a beautiful and calming environment for both the children and the parents. The assistants are super friendly and helpful, always making sure that any concerns or questions you may have are addressed. Having Dr. Starr in Bowie is awesome, we don't have to travel far to find someone of her expertise.
From day one, Dr. Starr was the best thing for my Little Miss. All the apprehension and nervousness went away from my little one. I wish many years ago I had a pediatric dentist like her! Customer service is excellent from the front door receptionist to the dental assistant to Dr. Starr herself. It's the best atmosphere for any child to be in when they have to go to the dentist.
Dr. Starr and her staff are absolutely amazing!! I took my then 20 month old son to Bright Starr for his first ever dental appointment (I think I was more apprehensive than he was). He unquestionably was not the easiest patient for Dr. Staff and yet, she was so patient and kind to him. Not once did she display any levels of frustration with my son and although he cried through quite a bit of his visit, it was due to him not wanting anyone messing with his mouth (same thing I go through at home) and not due to the gentle touch of Dr. Staff. I will undeniably return to the office for his next visit in February 2013!!
Even as a teenager, I enjoy going to this dentist! Dr. Starr and the staff are very nice and engaging. The layout is perfect for younger kids in the waiting room and the exam rooms. You can even watch TV while getting your teeth cleaned in one of the rooms! Bright Starr is a safe and enjoyable environment for a pediatric dentist office.
Great dentist...office is kid friendly, is your son or daughter scared each time you have a cleaning appointment or maybe a filling, after u visit Dr Starr the kids will be the one reminding u of the next visit. She is great with kids and will tell you exactly what your kid needs to getting a great teeth.
Been taking my kids there, this is my second year.
My son came to this practice at age 9 after being with another dentist for the last 7 years. I was nervous at first but when I entered the office and met the staff, I was reassured. Dr. Starr was very engaging and friendly and explained the process to my son. Unfortunately, we had to come back for a filling but that experience also went really well. Hopefully, this is the last time I change dentists, until he is no longer a kid.
We love Dr. Starr! She is engaging, patient and clear with information. My children were relaxed around her and her staff because they are so welcoming and helpful -- and silly right along with my kids! Dr. Starr's work is precise, efficient and gentle. I highly recommend this office!
From the moment my children and I entered Bright Starr we felt welcomed. There is very little wait time and everyone that has interacted with us has always been kind and caring. They make you feel as if you are their only patient. My children consistently ask when their next appointment will be. Highly recommend!
I was anxious to see how my daughter would react going to the dentist for the first time. I must say from the office bright colors, greetings of the staff, toys for the kids put both me and my daughter at ease. It is a very clean and welcoming atmosphere. The enthusiasm and patience of the dentist was phenomenal. I've have made my daughters 6 month appt and I highly recommend Bright Starr Pediatric Dentistry.
We have had the best experience with Bright Starr Pediatric Dentistry! The office is very clean, bright & inviting. The staff is patient, pleasant & kid friendly. It has been a very positive experience for our daughter who is currently 3 years old and has been visiting here since her very 1st visit with the dentist at the age of 2.
I've been taking my kids to Bright Starr Pediatric Dentistry for about 3 years. The staff and services provided are very professional. My kids enjoy going to the dentist. The office is clean. The staff will go out of their way to meet the needs of my children and me if I need anything, receipts, documentation, impromptu appointments. I would highly refer Bright Starr to anyone who has kids.
I've been at this location numerous times with Dr. Starr and other colleagues and everyone has been wonderful with my kids. However, I had the worst experience in the office recently. The Dentist that was available, was unprofessional and did not catered to my kids. She added fluoride all over their mouth and made them look so messy. To add injury to insult, instead of apologizing and acknowledging how I felt, I was told by the receptionist to never return. Really? I had no intentions of returning after being treated by an unprofessional dentist. Stay away from this location unless it's Dr. Starr treating your kids.
I just love this office from the front end to the back, from the office staff to Dr. Starr (now married Dr. Thrower). They are all kind, professional and caring. My sons ( age 3 & 4) have been coming since 18 months and they love making dental visits. Dr. Thrower is always so patient with the children.
Very kind and patient staff you children at ease. Dr Thrower is gentle and patient. Very cute office and waiting room. My kids loved the little prize machine to choose prizes after their cleaning.
My 2yr old daughter had to be seen by a pediatric dentist as soon as possible which is why we went all the way to bright starr in Bowie, MD. Her tooth had abscesses and swelled on the right side of her lower jaw. They did a visual exam and determined she needed it pulled (no brainer). Well they gave me a copay fee of $100 and said that's a low ball fee and that it could be more, all for a visual exam!! No X-rays, no teeth cleaning, nothing. Just simply looking at the tooth that abscessed. Now I wake up to a bill in the mail from this company for $450. The day before my daughters scheduled appointment I had to call in and let them know she had bronchitis and was in the hospital (they had already told me I needed to call in and let them know if she is sick because they'll need to reschedule her and if I don't call in and let them know I'll have to face a $200 cancellation fee. So it can't be part of that $450. Not to mention they accept my insurance! They overcharged and lied on my bill. I'll be seeing bright starr in court if my insurance company can't handle this.
Took both of my children to see her. At first everything seemed perfect. Clean environment, friendly staff, etc. She told me that both of my kid's mouths had several cavities (I am aware that is my fault) and she wanted to do an outpatient procedure to take care of all of them at once. I was thrilled and ready to get their teeth fixed. Several days before the procedure I received 3 different calls from staff "getting information" for the visit. An hour before we were supposed to leave they called asking if we could come in early and said that they had been trying to reach us for days needing us there earlier than planned. Didn't receive any calls about that only the 3 asking for the information and they didn't mention it then. We got there and she took myself and my daughter back to get her prepped. She kept repeating herself saying that if she had to remove teeth while she was in there that she couldn't ask my permission and would have to just do it. I told her that was understandable since she said that they only had cavities. After she finished with my daughter she came out to tell me that she HAD to remove all 4 of her front teeth. She didn't say anything about her front teeth even having issues when we discussed her mouth. My daughter was 4 at the time, that's a really long time to go without her front teeth. Completely devastated for my daughter, I asked her what we could do to make it easier on her until her adult teeth came in. She said that we could look into Pedi-partials but she would have to discuss it with us at her office. She took my son back, said all the same things that she said to me about my daughter EXCEPT that she wouldn't be able to talk to me if she needed to remove teeth. I found it strange that it wasn't necessary to mention that before taking him back but she said it at least 4 times before taking my daughter back. Anyways, fast forward two weeks after the procedure we take them back for a check up and she tells me that they can do partial for her and gives me a price. She said that she wasn't going to run it through our insurance because most of the time they don't pay for it. She was ready to put everything into motion until we asked her to go ahead and run it through just in case they do approve it to save us some money since our daughters birthday was coming up. After that her and the staff were extremely rude to us and rushed us out of the building. Especially the woman running the front counter. Since then we have only received 1 email stating that the insurance had denied it. That was 4 months ago. We have tried multiple times to reach them and have left several messages with no response. My daughter has already starting complaining about the teeth she "fixed" hurting her and half of the cap on my son's front tooth has fallen off exposing rot behind it. (In case you are wondering yes they have been properly taking care of their teeth since the procedure.) I have appointments for both of my children to be seen by another dentist for a second opinion. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone, even if it was a last resort. I fully believe she removed my daughters front teeth only to get money from us. If not, then she either missed a really serious problem with her front teeth the first time we talked about her mouth or was deceiving me and knew they would have to be removed. Whatever the reason is the lack of communication, actually, the entire situation is unacceptable. Please consider taking your children somewhere else. It's not worth even a small chance that this won't happen to your children too.
The office was bright, with great books and toys to keep my daughter busy. I love the fact that Saturday appts are an option. The receptionist was friendly and the dentist was very patient with my 2 year old. This was her very first dental appointment, and I was dreading it, but it went well because of her attention and patience. Thank you! I plan to refer people to you.
We have been going there for almost 3 years now, with our three kids (One of whom has special needs). Dr Starr is attentive, gentle and personable. I like that she remembers their names. I like the fact that she is very accommodating to my son with extra needs.
Dr Starr is very on point with exams and cleaning. She also makes my child comfortable being there, pleasant and kind hearted with my child. Her staff is very informative and friendly. I do recommend her practice.
Horrible Never Going back! Waited 1 hour before they took my son back the doctor was late her staff tried to pretend like she was there the entire time! Will be looking for a more professional doctor.
Very kid friendly environment .The staff is really respectful and polite. She really makes sure the kids are relaxed during the cleaning or any procedures that is getting done. Excellent Dentist
Dr. Thrower is a great dentist. She was always patient and understanding when caring for my daughter's teeth. Unfortunately, her staff is incompetent. On too many occasions, after I had taken the day off from work, I would get to her office and the girl at the front would tell me that my daughter could not be seen. Once because no one informed that my daughter could not eat before oral sedation, another time because the schedule was overbooked and the last time because whomever scheduled my appointment did not put that my daughter needed oral sedation and they only do that on Tuesdays and Fridays. Their excuse was that there was a new person doing the scheduling...IF YOU HIRE SOMEONE NEW TO HANDLE YOUR BOOKS.....T E A C H ..T H E M. There is no reason for these stupid mistakes. On top of that..I had to go the pharmacy to pick up the sedation medication and they would not give it back. I understand that it is a controlled substance etc. However, that was just an insult. As I stated before, Dr. Thrower was very patient and kind with my daughter, but I refuse to deal with people so STUPID that they can't even freaking schedule an appointment correctly. 3 strikes and you're OUT!
Had a 12 noon appointment.. it is now 1:04pm and we still have not been seen... not to mention the child screaming bloody murder in the back..... I'm a bit scared for my son
Nice office, friendly staff, great dentist and excellent care! You know you've found the right place when the kids don't mind going to the dentist. Very satisfied!
New and beautiful office. The entire staff is just so good with the kids, even with special needs. Totally worth the extra drive.
I Love how great they are with my children. I have 2 toddlers, and they make them feel comfortable every time.
Love how professional the staff is. My son has had all of his dental work done here.
My first visit there, Dr. Thrower was very patient and informative! We found our dental home for our daughter!
My daughter woke up at 6am on a Saturday morning with a swollen face and a painful tooth. I called several pediatric dentists, but Dr. Thrower was the first to call me back and told me to bring my daughter in. She squeezed us into her full schedule and addressed my daughter's situation. The office is clean and inviting. The staff is knowledgeable and takes great care of their patients and parents. We are very grateful that we found Bright Starr and Dr. Thrower! We will definitely be back!
Friendly, caring staff and Doc is great. Recommends what you need and works with you to help your child maintain a healthy smile.
I'm surprised that there are multiple negative reviews about the receptionist, but the doctor has done nothing to let her go.
I scheduled an appointment for my three year old for Tuesday, 12:20PM. On arrival, me and my wife were greeted with the receptionist yelling at us 'You were supposed to come yesterday'. When I told her that we were specifically told 12:20PM on Tuesday, she said that she has us in the system for 9AM Wednesday (WHAT???) and that she has no idea who I talked to on the phone.
A few minutes later the doctor arrives and tries to rectify the situation. She asked the receptionist 'Are they existing patients or new'. The receptionist rolled her eyes in a very rude manner, acknowledged that we were new patients, and pretended like she would try to fit us in. She called us back to the front desk a few minutes later and said that there was nothing she could do. By this time I had spent some time reading all the negative reviews about her. I told her how I had taken off from work on a Tuesday to be there. She made no effort to take any responsibility of the error and continued to say 'I did not schedule you for today'. Apparently the customer is not always right. Also, there is a big sign outside the building that says 'Walk-ins welcome'. Yeah not really. For now it seems like scheduled appointments are not welcomed either. One word to sum up our experience with the receptionist: Rude.
To the doctor: Judging by the reviews, it seems like you are a great doctor. Please acknowledge that your receptionist is hurting your practice. The first impression is the last and unfortunately we won't be returning. Following are all the other reviews about your receptionist. Bumping them up.
'Unfortunately, her staff is incompetent. On too many occasions, after I had taken the day off from work, I would get to her office and the girl at the front would tell me that my daughter could not be seen.'
'the staff were extremely rude to us and rushed us out of the building. Especially the woman running the front counter.'
'To add injury to insult, instead of apologizing and acknowledging how I felt, I was told by the receptionist to never return.'
'Very rude receptionist...They cancelled my appointment and when I called to reschedule, I was told "well you know school is about to start." I rescheduled the appointment for the following month and when I asked whether any concessions would be made if our appointment was canceled again the receptionist asked me "if concessions were made when you go to the grocery store and they are out of something?" The things she was saying didn't even make sense. When I finally said to just cancel the appointment and that they'd lost me as a client, she said "GOOD!"'
My son is 5 yo and major anxiety about dentist. Last dentist we had was not able to see in his mouth . Dr. Thrower was great at being patient with him and getting him to cooperate enough to see in his mouth. She explained in detail the procedure for sedation. Her staff I interacted with were extremely pleasant.
It's always a great experience for our girls! Dr. Thrower is friendly and soothing to our anxious littlest one and always kind and welcoming. I haven't had problems with the receptionist others noted.
I've been bringing my daughter for years (5 at least), she's scheduled every 6 months for cleaning. Appointment is made before walking out the door. Times are flexible as late as 430 during the week and early Saturday appointments available too. Dr. Thrower has even referred us to a GREAT orthodontist; I don't have any complaints. The staff is AMAZING. The doctor is AMAZING. They provide great service, always feel welcomed. I haven't experienced any of the situations noted in other reviews, hopefully you get to experience for yourself.
I absolutely love this clean, professional and friendly environment. The hours are great for working parents and school age students. My kids have been coming here for 6 years now. I refer them often and plan to stay forever. A big thank you to all the staff at Bright Starr.
This dentistry is great for kids! They have a variety of entertainment in the waiting area & a great layout for them in the back. The awesome staff is icing on the cake!!!
My son Isaiah Ferguson loves this dentist office and they are very professional and work with your time as working parents. He especially loves the coins to get treats every time he comes. Everyone is very friendly and I love the setup......
Our first appointment was last week! It was great! I love that the kids get a token to spend when they are finished. My daughter loved watching the movies, and didn't flinch one bit during the cleaning process. I'd highly recommend Bright Starr Pediatric Dentistry to anyone!
I have been going to this practice for about 3 years or so now. Dr. Starr/Thrower is awesome and very personable. My children love going to the dentist because of her. However, because of the experiences with the receptionist I am now looking for another practice.
The receptionist is very rude and apparently enjoys chastising the parents in front of their children. Truly outside the building they have a sign that says walk-ins are welcomed but when you are a few minutes late, she cancels your appointment and tells you your business is not more important than her other clients.
I have tried to overlook the receptionist behavior in the past because I so much enjoy Dr. Starr/Thrower and the other staff that work in the back office, but after this last experience I doubt I will be taking my children back there. I got berated by the receptionist, two of of my 4 children appoints cancelled and the two that got seen did not even see Dr. Starr/Thrower nor receive their little care packages. The place was so packed, people were sitting (literally) on top of each other. It appeared they tripled booked all the appointments and unfortunately everybody showed up and the result was pure chaos.
They always do a nice job with my kids and always make sure my kids are comfortable and safe while being worked on. They accept most insurance. I have amerigroup and now i have carefirst so that is very helpful. My kids love it here and they are also open on Saturday’s. If you do come on a Saturday just know that is when they are super busy and have a-lot of clients because everyone makes appointments for that day. But even though busy they always try there best to keep up with the set appointments.
The receptionist is the first person clients see. When I walked in with my daughter we were not greeted. I asked the receptionist about operating the coffee machine. After following HER instructions it did not work properly. I asked if there was anywhere to dump it. She didn’t respond and passed it over to her colleague (another receptionist I believe) as if she didn’t want to be bothered. I then explained to the nicer of the two that I did what was told. The very rude receptionist says to me “You don’t know to put the coffee pod in”. I CLEARLY asked her if I needed to put the pod in or if the pod was already in the machine (because this was my first time making coffee in their office and had no idea where the pods were stored as they were not out for me to see). I would advise the doctor to REALLY consider who’s representing her company. Her receptionist speaking to clients in a condescending manner will cause them to take their business elsewhere. In addition, we were not advised to have my daughter empty her bladder just before her procedure. She in turn had an accident (she informed them that she had to go but they proceeded to work on her). She was told before her procedure that she would receive her prize token but she never did. I will assume that the doctor was just busy and that it wasn’t done intentionally. Unfortunately we will not return and she will have the rest of her work done elsewhere.
We really liked this office and the dentist. It is cheerful and well-managed. My very young son was never nervous or scared here, and I think that really speaks to how knowledgeable the dentist and her staff are when it comes to working with children.
Unfortunately, we don't go here anymore because they no longer accept our insurance, but we didn't leave due to any issues with the practice itself.
To add to other reviews. My daughter has been seeing Dr. Ebony for a couple of years. She’s a great pediatric dentist. Today I contacted the office to see which date my daughters appointment was scheduled. I was immediately put on a 5 minute hold. Afterwards, the receptionist could not seem to spell and/or hear the spelling of my daughters name. Apparently frustrated, she put me on another hold. Once off hold, another person asked me for my daughters information to which I noted, I didn’t understand why this was so hard and taking so long, and she responded, “Because we’re busy that’s why? Not a problem. I’ll take my business elsewhere. The receptionist have always been lack luster and rude and it’s truly a horrible reflection of Dr. Ebone’s practice.
Terrible customer service with the front office staff! They mishandled several claims and have been rude in the process of trying to resolve them. While in person I notified them of my change in insurance but apparently my records were never updated because I received a call (April 15th) letting me know the claims were rejected. I provided the information again but on May 3rd I received another call and was told that the person in the office handling claims was no longer an employee there and apologetically she asked for my information yet again. I never received another call since yet I received invoices indicating a had a past due balance. I called today and was rudely told that they tried to contact me several times but my phone tracks all missed, outgoing and incoming calls from a specific number and that's how I remember the 2 dates I'm listing here and have no other calls from them. I called Delta Dental myself and they called Bright Starr to fix the issue for me. Apparently Bright Starr was sending the claims electronically to the wrong department. I called them back to ask why they never called Delta Dental and they said they don't do that but other providers clearly do since the automated system for Delta Dental first asks if you are a provider or a subscriber. The office manager at Bright Starr still rudely claimed that they called me several times which is not true at all. Needless to say I'll be looking for a different pediatric dentist office for my kids as there are several out there who I'm sure can provide better service. It's too bad because our experience with the dentist and back office staff has always been great and that's what kept me there but there have been too many negative experiences with the front office. There's been a lot of turnover and I kept thinking it would get better but for some reason they've all been rude in one way or another.
The front staff is horrible..Brittany which probably isn't even her real name.. has a bad attitude. Very slick out the mouth. The doctor is going to loose patients if she doesn't get rid of that unprofessional front staff. They swear they have sent my claims several times to delta dental and keeps getting rejected. Delta dental doesn't have anything. Out of 2 years. So now you are trying to balance bill me because the billing department doesnt know what they are doing. I wouldn't recommended this place to anyone because of the front staff. When you go to a dentist office you want it to feel like you are welcome and cared for. Please be careful they are trying to get over on people billing because they dont know what they are doing.
Rude front desk staff! They're rude in a nice way if you know how that is. Schedule availability is terrible. Would not recommend. Do your kid and yourself a favor and find a more professional, flexible and friendly dentist.
I use to love this dentist office when my son first started going about 3 years ago. NOW......Not so much. The front desk staff/young lady is rude. Looking for a new dentist for my son now.
The receptionist charged me out of netwok rates when she was suppose to charge me in network. When I requested a refund, I was given the run around. The receptionist was extremely rude,
lied about calls to me she never actually made, and always had an attitude. The office manger happened to be put off the country and apparently wad the only once who could rain my money. Even though it was their negligence that caused me to be charged out of pocket, I was made to wait 3 months before being refunded! I almost contacted the BBB. Dr. Thrower is great but she needs to get rid of this receptionist. She is hurting her business. I will certainly NOT be returning.
Dr. Thrower is great as a doctor, but she has to urgently fire her front office staff. When I came in for an appointment for my daughter, they checked my insurance and gave me a paper that said I was going to owe $190 for the treatment. Then they send me a $400 bill in the mail after I paid them the $190! If I knew they were going to charge so much, I would have never gone to them in the first place!!!!!! I attempted to speak with their office manager. She was extremely rude and basically laughed at me, said oh, we don't actually check the insurance. Great! Do not go to this office unless you have $$$$$$$$.
My Daughter's appt went well and they were very accommodating - thanks for all you do
Google should have an option to put no stars ! Wow ! Horrible customer service. My kids were patients of Dr. Thrower and I left the office back in March due to the rude staff and cancelled all appointments I guess they did not get the memo. I received a phone call about an appointment my kids had and I confused them with the new office my kids are now going to and I corrected the day and told her its tomorrow not today..... The girl who answer the phone was giving so much attitude about the confusion on the dates and just hung up. When I realized it was the wrong office I called back to notify them my kids were no longer patient's the girl who answer the phone said " yea, it was me you spoke to and what about it ?" ( in a very rude way) when I told her that her attitude was unacceptable and I will be writing a review and emailing Dr. Thrower she replied "Ok, go ahead I don't really care and said that's great go ahead". It's sad that your practice has completely change since Zuniara left. You should hire professional staff that care about your patients and practice. Unacceptable behavior.
Great service. The doc is informative and knowledgable. The front office staff are nice
Dr Starr is always extremely patient, explains thoroughly what would happen during complicated procedures and her "bedside manner" with all my children is exceptional. Service is always of the highest quality, regardless of if its teeth being pulled or simple cleanings.
I was referred here from another Dentist Office for my daughter. They were so pleasant at this location that I switched all my children here.
