Can't say enough good things about this place. Saturday and Sunday brunch. Delicious. Cocktails are awesome and staff is very friendly.
Came here the other day for dinner when I was in town for work. The place is not huge and has a old rustic kind of look. It has a small bar and dining area. As we walked in, the server quickly got us the table.
This place is a perfect example so to how great service, awesome food takes the whole experience to the next level. Before getting into the details about the food I would really like to point out that our server was just awesome. He knew in and out about the menu and provided an awesome customer service.
I ordered the wings and fried oysters for the appetizers. For the entree had the catfish étouffée. The wings were ok not exceptional but after complimenting it with New Orleans hot sauce it tasted much better. The oysters were very tasty and the side sauce served with oysters had a nice kick.
My catfish etouffee was so delish. It was probably the best catfish etouffee I had in a very long time. It was the right amount of consistency , had great spices and had a great quality of crawfish.
They have a live band on every 2nd Tuesday on every month which I able to witness.
FYI- I would recommend going with a entree and skipping appetizers. They are very generous with the entree portions and they are big!
Saw triple D episode on food network and had to try it. Excellent food friendly wait staff. Pork belly corn dog is a must try. Very tasty
A real date night experience. Go hungry though, the food is comforting to say the least!
Probably the best Cajun food I have ever had. Everytime I visit Boston I make sure to stop by this restaurant. Wait staff and owners are very friendly and give excellent service.
Gumbo, pie, fried oysters and crispy grits. Gumbo was incredible.
I went here with my brother and sister to have some good family bonding and enjoy some fine dining at the same time. It was my second time going here and this place is solid.
Both times I got the veggie gumbo. Now truth be told, I don't know what gumbo is. I don't know what its supposed to taste like, or if by making it veggie it is somehow changed. I do know that it is delicious and has such fun things as wild rice and okra in it. Also it's massive, I made it into two meals and was full each time.
My brother got the non veggie gumbo. He tried mine and commented it was much different... there's some food for thought.
The cornbread (in place of bread to start the meal) is a great idea in theroy, but ours was cold. The butter was great (my brother told me it was homeade, I dont know how he would have known that) but once I went to Masa and they had different butter spreads that were infused with honey or something spicy, now that was cool.
I quite like the atmosphere, it's definitely a little hipster feeling but you are in Inman square. What did you expect? It's Inman. And frankly, I love mason jars, sue me.
TL;DR? It's delicious and not too expensive.
Great southern food - fried chicken and cornbread. Service was a little lackluster when I went, with no water refill.
Can't beat the price and taste of their gumbo. Extra points for fresh butter and corn bread.
Drinks are solid as well. Another high performer in the Inman sq area!
My favorite restaurant in Inman Square, Tupelo, is just the best. I could eat everything on the menu.
In fact, now I'm craving gumbo.
Nice work Tupelo!
Great southern food! Hours are a little tricky, but the brunch selection makes up for it!
The Duck Confit with root vegetables with the "Coronado Sock Knocker" IPA is the best brunch I've had EVER!!!!
Fun atmosphere and good food - generous portions. I had the pork belly which could have fed two of us! We had deep fried alligator to start, which was something new! The starters were really good actually - we ordered a selection to share, which I would recommend doing. Other main courses on our table included lemon sole, trout and fried chicken, all of which were large portions but still good quality.

Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Inman. I love the ambience and the food is nothing short of the best. You won't be disappointed with the out-of-the-ordinary mussel frites.
This place is awesome. Really cool small restaurant vibe and stellar food
Good food done fast and well. I came in for the chicken gumbo and it didn't disappoint. Also not that expensive.
Really well done southern good and very reasonably priced.
Came here in a whim for Sunday brunch and it was one of the best decisions I made! The food is so good and one of the better southern brunch options in Boston! It's also nice that they take reservations or you can just call ahead of time!
It was so good! The portions are big and so delicious, it's hard to describe. I had mussels with French fries - totally recommend! The personal is incredible nice. I would definitely be back.
Have to try the fried alligator, it's delicious! Also had the fries chicken entrée, highly recommend it. Friendly staff. Amazing and quality beer selection as well.
Had bunch here. Loved the alligator po'boy and grits. Also had the Stout with coffee liquor cocktail and enjoyed a lot as well
Fun vibe, southern-style dishes (including alligator!), plaid-clad servers. Food was just okay.
Food was very good and arrived quickly, and Wait staff was friendly and attentive, though locals had said it was unusually slow for the time. Atmosphere was very nice, visually appealing.
This place was great! Laid back, kind of hipstery/grungy/southern vibe. The service was great as well as the food. I ordered the fried chicken and didn't even want to try anyone else's dish (nor share mine!) :P
Food and service is outstanding! Jake provided us with superb service! Since I am from the south I was a little concerned when we received a recommendation to try a southern restarant in Cambridge, MA but WOW was I pleasantly suprised. The fried chicken, mac and cheese, greens, salad with asparagus, and even the sweet tea were so good. The spices used just mealted in your mouth. I highly recommend this casual restaurant. Too bad I was only visting the area or I would return often.
Yasssssss! As a southern gal, i was initially concerned about southern food this far north. But it was AMAZING!! Fried oysters and cheddar cheese grits to die for.
Cozy southern style restaurant with bar. We had lunch on a Sunday and food was quick to arrive and tastes really nice :) I loved the pecan pie with the bourbon ice cream! Will definitely return
I had the fried oysters, pimento cheese and grits. All were fantastic. The breading on the oysters was extremely good.
Great southern food. Cozy atmosphere.
Everything here is delicious, whether they're serving brunch or dinner. They have a fantastic, though small, beer list. Sometimes there's live music. I like coming here with 1-3 friends because the tables are not huge. The desserts here are also essential to leave room for. I love everything about this place!
Large portions of assertively-flavored food that comes out quickly. What's not to love?
Good amount of choices and good service.
Very average food and overpriced as a result. It is a nice space though with decent beer options so worth stopping by for a drink and a snack if you have nowhere special to go.
Great food. Good to bring a date or just to try a new cuisine. This place has a southern cuisine and vibe.
A hidden gem Inman square! Everything was absolutely delicious. Comfort food but elaborated at the same time. I'm juts happy i live close by. My new favorite souther food place in Boston
I was very impressed with what their kitchen put out and I know southern cooking. This is a great high quality place with a chill vibe and very accommodating front of house staff. I will be back!
Nice ambiance, but the food wasn't overly impressive. The best part was the cornbread and (really yummy) butter they brought before the main meal.
Wonderful southern dishes. The fried chicken was crunchy outside and super moist and flavorful inside. Delicious collard greens and rainbow chard. The fried alligator was also really good.
Unique southern food oasis in the middle of Cambridge. Reliably good food, good drinks selection. Cozy vibe.
Consistently amazing with their drinks and menu. The food is always incredible. One of my favorite restaurants to go to whenever I get the chance.
Nice ambience but the food wasn't too special so not sure if I got my value for money.
If you actually want southern food prepared amazingly well with intense flavoring this is your spot. I visited recently with my wife and a friend. All three of us had an incredibly tasty meal. My ribs were charred nicely and fell off the bone. The collared greens and mash on the side were almost as tasty. My wife got the catfish which was even tastier. My buddy got the fried chicken which possibly stands among the best you can get in the Boston area.
Good beer selection and a great staff. This is a must visit restaurant if you live in or visit this area.
Great brunch, friendly service, fun atmosphere and tasty dishes.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, fantastic service.
I love southern food. I was hopeful. The restaurant is small but cute. We popped in around 6pm on a Saturday night. I ordered the ribs and the pimento cheese. My guy ordered the fried alligator and the gumbo. He said he liked his food. He didn't love it. It was his first time trying alligator and he said it was okay, chewy, but probably wouldn't order it again. Not the restaurant's fault at all. Everything was presented nicely. My ribs were a little too dry and overdone. I didn't care for the sauce slathered over ribs, I favor a dry rub with sauce on the side. It was quite sweet. I also didn't care for the collard greens. I'm no collard green expert, but I prefer a more smoky, less sweet/vinegary version. Again, personal taste. The mashed potatoes were outstanding. I didn't love that I couldn't get a diet soda either. I don't drink alcohol and water or sugared drinks were my only option other than water. Our waiter didn't offer us dessert, so I can't even say what was on the menu. All in all, I was disappointed. I had high hopes, and the mashed potatoes were the only bite that I loved.
Good food, quaint place. Had gumbo and sauteed chicken livers for apps. Both were exceptional. Chicken liver was so tender and not dry like most. Had fried chicken for main course and pretty darn good chicken. Would definitely go back.
The fried chicken was delicious, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The ribs were equally great. The alligator appetizer was a little underwhelming; very tasty but small portion for the price.
Absolutely fabulous food, great ambiance, friendly staff, Tupelo is one of my favorite restaurants in the greater Boston area. Try to vegetarian gumbo for a healthy, delicious and very filling meal
Great place for Sunday brunch! Really good price and awesome dishes! Also high quality service from servers! Loved the place!
Best food I have had in a while. I'm a chef and the mussel frittes were one of the best things I have ever eaten
Amazing southern food at a reasonable price!! We loved the feeling here as it isn’t too pretentious like many other “southern” places in Boston can be. The service has always been great. Would recommend the blackened catfish and the fried chicken. Vegetarian gumbo was not the greatest.
Excellent restaurant, I've been looking for a place that serves good gumbo since I moved to Boston a few years ago. The staff is friendly, and the ambiance is very charming.
Great food and service. Had the pan seared duck breast and it was amazing
Great brunch list and solid cocktails. Can highly recommend the biscuits and gravy or the veggie hash. Also try the grapefruit mimosa.
Cute decor, great staff and amazing food.
Fried chicken and moules frites are fantastic. Casual and well priced.
The ribs were amazing and with the BBQ sauce, gives meaning to "fall off the bone". Pairs incredibly well with the almost pickled-like collard greens and garlic mashed potatoes. Great meal that doesn't leave you feeling guilty at the end.
Did I tell you how much I hate(ed) white meat/breast fried chicken?.. 'til I ate it here.' Gator, corn bread, and, really, I tried, I was gonna make it out the door without that piece of pie but, see, what had happened was that it was her own browned butter pecan pie and, well, I was weak an' it was worth it. HEAVENLY!!
Friendly decor underscores this delightful little southern-themed restaurant's diverse menu of comfort foods. The meals are imaginative without being exotic, and I've never had anything I didn't like here! Through a window into the little kitchen, you can see the chef working very hard, and it shows in the thoughtful and attractive assembly and plating of dishes. Drinks and desserts are delightful as well.
Great fried oysters ! The gumbo was cooked well but had too strong of a herbal taste n aroma .
I will ride or die for Inman square. Friendly staff, great beer and wine selection. Unique, imaginitive, fresh and unpretentious food.
Cozy place. Good for a date.
Ohhhhh my stars!!! The food was great and the mimosa was exactly what I needed! I'm the girl who goes to the South once every four months to get my southern fix! No need to anymore because I found a place that can do it for me!!
Go for brunch. Order "The Dude" - single greatest breakfast item I've ever had. 100/100
Super laid back brunch spot with none of the basics infesting other “brunch” spots in Boston. Yuck. Just good food, no nonsense. You will get the Dude, and be happy for the rest of the day. Or, you can opt for the special of the day, which is usually an omelette with whatever ingredients chef has on hand. Can’t go wrong.
Fantastic brunch with no line/wait. I can't believe I've been queueing up at the popular spots all this time, when I can just walk into Tupelo and have a plate of fried chicken and waffles with ginger whipped cream, butter, and maple syrup sitting in front of me within fifteen minutes.
Biscuits and gravy are also solid. Absolutely will be back here soon.
Worth every penny! It was certainly the most I've spent on gumbo, but Tupelo offers an enhanced take on southern cuisine that is hard to find up here in New England.
We really love their date night special. Its every tuesday evening, and you receive a 3 course meal to share for the price of one. My favorite is the fried chicken, but its even better that they have petsie pie and toscanini's ice cream for dessert. Great use of local favorite foods! Also, a great ambiance, my favorite night here was in the middle of a snowstorm, and the bar staff had mulled wine they were handing out. Then the abominable snowman came in for dinner (their sandwich board outside advertised a free meal for the infamous yeti). Really fun night and great experience.
Best southern restaurant I've been to in Boston! I've never been to the south, but this is great BBQ food haha
I ordered the "ST. LOUIS RIBS house BBQ...read this and 678 more
