How would you rate Urban Grind?
Barista was friendly, my grilled cheese was good, the wifi was free. However I found the shop dirty and loud. Needs a good vacuum and a dust rag. Overhead music too loud, people setting up for events even louder. I doubt I will frequent this shop.
The drinks, space, and staff is good. What makes this place different from the rest is the events they host. They have open mic, music, comedy. Jahan, who works at the front, makes this place even better.
This place is amazing, best chocolate brownies in the world!!!
I've only been here once with 2 of my friends and we both ended up with drinks that were overly sweet and couldn't find a place to sit comfortably. Wish I could have came during their live entertainment.
Preface: I am an espresso extremist. The espresso here is definitely better than most places I would rate it top 3 of what I have tried in Atlanta. I haven't found anything in Atlanta that I would say is good, but the environment here and the baristas are amazing. Very nice place to study chill, seems like a low key place.
This is a great place to lounge and read. The barista named Jahan is smart, funny and professional. Good customer service and atmosphere. Cool events are hosted here too.
The red velvet is simply heavenly. A great place for creative inspiration. And i really loved the French press coffee too..
Wonderful atmosphere, and the workers are very helpful. The coffee is pretty good too.
Here I found warm and friendly staff along with a great cappuccino :)
I went for the comedy night. I was a little early but it was a nice cozy intimate environment. Would definitely go again and recommend others.
My #1 place to chill, brainstorm, meet and of course great coffee and tea. Great sandwiches too
My favorite coffee shop!!
This coffee shop is like walking into an old friends house in Atlanta.
You can sit in the circle couch area or the tables provided.
They have weekly events that I have never been disappointed at.
You can mix your own fresh tea blends. There tea is hands down my favorite ( I personally feel like more coffee shops drop the ball on teas).
Great place to meet, get work down, or sit sit!!!
One of my favorite spots.. very comfy & welcoming. The food is really good & the staff is so nice. I go out of my way to come here
The very first time I visited was after a long night of hard work so I was really happy to get some coffee to start my busy day. I waited at the the counter for what seemed like years but finally after 7 minutes or so, a very annoyed woman came out of the restroom frowning stating she was in the restroom. When I acknowledged what she was saying the best way i could she proceeded with "yea I have to do that sometimes" . I felt it was distasteful as well as unprofessional. Not really sure what the problem was this particular Saturday morning but my friend and I left and I tell this story to everyone I encounter since I live and play in this area. GOD forbid it happening to anyone else I know in need of coffee. Luckily, Starbucks and DD are always ready on Howell Mill without the horrible attitude.
As of 2/05/17 I love this place and I never saw that staffer from my first visit ever again... My daughters live in the student lofts nearby and we love it and the friendly staff
Great place with a chill atmosphere and staff that go above & beyond as far as customer service! Love their hot sandwiches, chai tea latte, and open mic events
They know what they're doing overall. Coffee is pretty good and the service was excellent.
Awesome coffee and ambiance! Designated parking is very limited but there are plenty of places around the area to park. Urban Grind has tons of awesome open Mic and comedy nights featuring local talent and offer standard coffee shop pastries & fresh fruit along with a variety of panini sandwiches.
I love this coffee shop. It is a great place to get work done. The customer service is always great, the atmosphere is really chill, and I really enjoy the coffee and snacks. I highly recommend this place.
Excellent staff and services. Terriffic atmosphere with great food & drinks
Poor customer service, notably from the newer, younger guy with all of the bracelets on his wrists and a flag hanging from his pocket - is that a thing? Is that sanitary at a coffee shop?
I had hoped that this coffeeshop would do well since its been there so long - 10 years I believe. But when you walk in and the young guy, for example, at the counter doesn't speak to you and you are the only customer - then something is seriously wrong with their customer service. And yes that has happened to me, with this same barista, on more than one occasion. So much so that during my last visit, I asked him if he was a morning person. He said no and mentioned that he had worked at the shop the previous night and so he was tired. I get that, but my thought is that you probably don't want to work the morning shift at a coffee shop if you don't like to say "hello, may I help you" - in the morning.
I have watched him have issues with customers in the morning, and then when the owner walks in, he presents the issue to the owner as if the customer was at fault. Crazy.
As a foodie and a coffee snob, I would recommend that you try Revelator or Drip. I like Revelator for their minimalist vibe. I also love Drip and the people there are at lot nicer than the Urban Grind. :)
By the way, I have frequented the Urban Grind for 10 years. And some of the reviews listed here are correct. The Urban Grind can be cozy. Depending in the barista, you may be able to get a good drink. It was my favorite coffee shop at one point. But customer service and cleanliness are issues if you really look behind that counter when certain baristas are working. The OGs are nice for the most part.
This shop is past its prime and has become more of an event space than a place where you go and enjoy coffee.
Food is good but takes about 45 minutes for a panini. Coffee is sometimes mediocre. Staff can be unnecessarily pretensious. Live performances make this place quite enjoyable, though.
Nice aesthetics and comfort. Quiet laid back at least on Sunday afternoon. Supportive management. Enjoyed myself and got my work done. Will be back.
Chill vibe + expertly crafted espresso beverages.
Suggestions: replace obviously well-worn seating, offer freshly-baked treats
The atmosphere is wonderful.
Mindy and I had different sandwiches, both of which were VERY tasty. Excellent smoothies🙂. And the Coffee's are to die for!! Starbucks is becoming a thing of the past☺️
- This is my third visit and the people working here have always been exceptional!
- Javan, yesterday, was OUTSTANDING!! Friendly, Courteous and Professional yet wonderfully Personable at the same time.
- Nailah is very friendly (and pretty) today. Loooove your skirt, girl!
- I was met by the owner, Cassandra, on my initial visit a few weeks ago. Her passion for this place was obvious and justified. You've a wonderful place!!
- Kudos to whoever chose to hire this wonderful group!! GREAT team and assets to Urban Grind.
- I'm looking forward to returning for their Comedy Nite AND Poetry Reading Nite.
--We will DEFINITELY be back many times. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Good music and ambiance. Beverages were tasty and food delicious.
I was looking for a place to quickly get a drink before work and am so glad I chose this coffeehouse! It was my first time here and the decor and ambience is great, and the customer service is wonderful. I got the chai latte and it's hands down the best I've gotten anywhere. They have a variety of coffee, teas, smoothies, and hot chocolate. As well as a nice selection of food and snacks. There is plenty of seating and they have board games which is a nice touch. Great place if you want to hang out with friends or get some me time.
Love this place! Best chai lattes and the chicken pesto sandwich is everything!
Great place if u love all types of poetry and very friendly bunch of people
Cozy shop is west midtown - enjoy their creative drinks and classics! The atmosphere is friendly and allows you to enjoy chats with friends or being productive.
Great place to have some coffee and just hang out!
Cozy spot. Nice beverage selection and friendly staff.
Service is excellent. Vibe is nice. Food is good. Community is evident.
Awesome experience and vibes. Love the coffees and teas. I heard the food is amazing! I guess i'm still stuck on this Mint Condition Chai Tea lol
Cool spot. Try their veggie burger. Good service.
Very cozy atmosphere with comfy seats and cute cartoon wall decorations. I had a turkey and swiss panini and a zucchini walnut bread and they were both delicious! Prices are good and the service is quick and efficient. Would definitely recommend
Good coffee, friendly staff and the Tuesday night comedy show is always a fun time... definitely check it out
The atmosphere, conversation and customer service was great. I absolutely will return.
Great West midtown location. Great quality, excellent ambience. Really cool events as well.
Great place, comfortable seating knowledgeable staff and good food. Had the turtle latte, it was a little sweet but still tasty. Definitely will be back. For those looking for a local spot to support, definitely check it out. Oh yeah...and it's Black Owned. ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 Phuck Starbucks!
Good spot to get work done. Food is much better than other coffee shops around, and they have some cool events too. And they have a parking lot off to the side that I didn't know about.
Warm and friendly environment. Spoken word was amazing, and the lattes are really good.
Smoothies are always delicious!!! Love the vibe and atmosphere of Urban Grind.
Love the atmosphere, love the selection of teas, and the carrot cake, when they have it.
I dislike the vibes and attitude of the guy behind the counter ( with the locks). It stinks to high heaven!
When you buy a tea, and want some more hot water to use up the teabag, they charge a full regular tea again (well, at least he does). He is rounding up in his favor when given a chance ( charging for a large, instead of a medium), and rounding down when it is to his advantage to do so (putting half the amount of tea in the bag as other coffee houses or tea shops).
I guess, he hasn’t realized yet that it’s not the 50c he can get more in today’s transaction, but the 100s of $ over time that a returning customer would spend.
Well, i haven’t been there for a couple of months for that reason. Thought I’ll check if it changed. It didn’t. So i won’t return for while again, that is clear.
I wish for them to figure out soon how to build a loyal clientele. There’s not much else around as alternative. Would be a shame if they would have to close. Maybe in a few months the situation may have improved - for now, one star is the most i can give…
Had a great time at the comedy open mic tonight!! Lots of very talented individuals and a nice cozy spot to get your early-week chill on.
Amazing house specials - Turtle Mocha and White Raspberry Mocha (both iced). Not too busy on a Saturday afternoon.
I wanted to find a #BlackOwnedOperatedCoffeeShop...this is what #GoogleRecommended #Nice #Quiet #Friendly👍🏽
Nice coffee shop. However Mason is very rude, and for some reason my drink is never right when he make it. If I’m spending my money at an establishment I think that the employee should be nice.
Great experience on my first visit. Good food and tea.
Nice vibe... Nice pastries... Cafe is a cafe is a cafe...
Introduced to this establishment about 4 years ago. Love each time that I have went. They have GREAT smoothies and cakes. Also the poetry every Thursday is awesome with wonderful hosts. Owner is friendly to all patrons. Would highly recommend if you just want to grab coffee as well.
Great vibe, wonderful service, lovely owner and exceptional evening events every week...who can ask more from a cafe?
I loved the coffee and the entertainment there this evening. The muffin was great also.
Bought a chai tea and it was great. Even had a place to sit and enjoy it.
Best tasting coffee shop. Espressos are Great.
4/5 stars -
5 stars if the gentleman behind the bar will smile. Third time visiting, a smile or hello would make this location 5 stars.
Scenery the ambience the pastries coffee was totally awesome we'll be back and it's just a really nice quiet comfy spot to engage with people for quiet time or to reflect and I will be back for think they have poetry night and the gentleman that was there was his customer service was superb
Chill spot. Good coffee. Great atmosphere for meetings and studying
Great smoothies! Great service and friendly staff! Warm environment with cozy seating, wifi, and printing services.
Coffee is okay! Better than Starbucks. But expectations was little high based on review. :)
might be a bad day for me.
only one person working with very high traffic. the wait time was extremely long. good food almost made up for it.
Great little space to work in! They have lots of comfy chairs and the coffee is good too!
Every time I visit this place, I'm reminded of why I shouldn't. Today, after waiting for 10 mins, I realized that not a single person already sitting down had received their order. Walked in just before 10AM and had a 10:30 appointment in the neighborhood. Didn't think there was any chance I'd be in danger of being late but clearly I was wrong. Ended up leaving without my drink. Didn't have time to talk to the barista about a refund. There are two much better coffee shops on the same block and I'll never spend another dime in Urban Grind.
Awesome place to share your spoken word poetry at an open mic night on Thursdays and to hear others share. Great food, delicious tea, friendly people, and excellent service. AND they have comfy couches. What else can I ask for? They are the best place to go in Atlanta!
I honestly had a great time. The ambiance. The food. It was all great! Also, we were able to see some awesome comedians ! 😊
I love what they are doing here. Very Chic, very low key, urban sophisticated... love poetry night and comedy night. They do it for the locals and we appreciate it.
My Office away from my office.. When I need a change of pace and a nice relax vibe Urban Grind is my go to spot.. Staff is very friendly and the music is relaxing..
Went in today with a friend and ordered cappuccino and latte , we ordered medium sized drinks and both cups were 3/4 filled with foam. When we mentioned this to the barista we were told that’s how they are made. Also ordered mini cake that was dry . Wanted to really support this business but was very disappointed in quality and customer service
Great atmosphere, delicious mocha. Will be back, but please next time let people know you'll be kicking them out for open mic before your take their order. Would have liked to stay for more than 30 minutes. Not everyone knows your schedule. Thanks 👍🏽
They had some technical difficulties at the register when I got here, and I had to wait a little bit, but it was worth the wait. It's a lovely cozy café with plenty of coffee and food options. Really loved the different milk and syrup options.
Super cool place to go to work out comedy material on a Tuesday night. This place really should be considered a writers room.
Urban Grind is one of frequent spots. I've attended their Thursday open mic night several times and it's always a pleasure. The staff is friendly, the food...read this and 83 more
