How would you rate The Rib Hut Bar-B-Que & Seafood?
This is the third time I have tried to write a review on this place (the first two were about 5 paragraphs each) but google keeps failing on me. *sigh* So I will make this short.
Rib Hut is a pretty accurate description,
Best food there is out there. Try the Ribs, just amazing... drenched in homemade bbq. I think I just added 10 years to my life after eat them.
Mama will take care of yah! Get a couple orders of the sweet potato fries to try something out of the world, best Sweet Potato fries I ever tried, I started to wonder if I was in a dream while eating them.
This is as Deep South as you can get when it comes to BBQ cookin, Mama knows what shes doin! I cannot stress this place enough! This is some of the best BBQ I ever had.
They have some of the best lemonade in Savannah. I ate there after church and more than happy with the food I got from here on the way home/
No frills fall-off-the-bone ribs with purple drink.
As our favorite Tybee restaurant we asked if they would cater our wedding. They did and it blew our guests away. From the always excellent crab legs to the shrimp and even unbelievable mashed potatoes as well as rave reviews on everything in between the food couldn't of been better! The price was very reasonable and the staff were superb. Very easy to work with and beyond courteous. We had a lot leftover and asked if they donated to local homeless shelters. They do, but the shelter kitchens were closed so they brought the food themselves to those spending the night under the bridge. Amazing people, give them your business you won't regret it!
The steamed shrimp was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Best Ive ever had. This shrimp was better than the low country boil shrimp at Tubbys Tank. Craving it now. Will be returning.
We have been coming to this place for years now and it has gone downhill. The women's bathroom is simply disgusting- no hot water, decent soap, or even a paper towel dispenser. There are two rolls of paper towels sitting on top of the toilet bowl tank and that is it. If you are coming with a baby and need a diaper changing stating you will also not find it here. The food is mediocre- the toast isn't toasted and the shrimp is too small for the price.
Last time in Tybee, Son & I ate supper at this place. I ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell. They were served on a tin plate with ""No Ice" & Oysters hadnt even been ""Cut loose from the shell-Which is suppose to be done while Shucking". Served with ""No Cocktail Sauce or lemon"" Had to ask for some Louisiana Hot Sauce. I wouldnt eat at this place again, If they gave me the food Free""" The waitress we had; was as about as rude as a Baboons Red Rear End. I'll go to Captain D's next time.
This is my favorite place. it's the best seafood in GA... great atmosphere, staff and drinks...
I've not been impressed by the seafood places in and around Savannah. Despite a great outdoor atmosphere that was a welcome reprieve from some of the louder joints on the island, the shrimp we had tasted like it had been frozen and was underseasoned. I also highly doubt they "cook to order" as our entire family's food was luke warm at best when served. It was ok, but definitely made me miss the seafood on the gulf coast. If this is the "best seafood in GA" then GA needs to step up its game.
I came to Savannah on a business trip and a friend of mine insisted we come to The Crab Shack..best choice we made that week. I got a huge portion of Crab Legs and andouille sausage. It was way to much to eat and was cooked perfectly. They didn't over cook the crab is was perfect. The cajun spices they used and the meat for the andouille sausage was something I keep dreaming about. I will definitely swing back in my next time in Savannah.
I was never a fan of crab until I had fresh crab! It was very good. My husband isn't much for seafood so he had a chicken sandwich. There were small bones in it. So that wasn't so great. But the seafood was amazing. My girls had a blast feeding the gators too! Will definitely go back because of the sea food.
This is the best Seafood. Love their platter
For two and the prices are wonderful for all the food you get. It is So beautiful seating outside under the big trees w hanging lights and looking out onto the water. The staff is great. The Gator pond is a plus for all ages. From seeing babies to the big um's and you feeding them w cane pole. Just all round a awesome hideaway Crab Shack. Been going for 9 yrs and always had a blast.
Atmosphere was great everything else was okay. It wasy first time today and I decided to ask if they needed any bartenders. I'm visiting for the summer for an internship and the older woman, who was the bar and server manager, decided to lecture me about how it was lunch hour on a Saturday and continued to talk down to me. Then she told me I could work in the kitchen. She was extemly rude for a manager. Definitely did not feel wanted there...
Love being able to eat under the trees in the open. Majority of the menu is seafood but they do have a couple of things for us landlubbers. Food is good.
Steam platter is a ton of fresh seafood food at a great price! Nothing is fried! All fresh! Handwash stations on the patio are a nice touch. Recommend sitting inside due to flies outside is the only reason I don't give 5 stars.
Great seafood. I came here for first time near Halloween in 2014, first time in Tybee, first time in Savannah, first time in GA and first time in the US! This place is also where I first saw raccoon in my entire life! I know people hate them but I love them, we don't have it in my home country. 2015, I am here again. Food is so good! Oh yes, that alligator pond!
I had BBQ which was awesome. The others in our party raved about the crab . . . very tasty. The setting outside with a full moon could not have been better. Thanks for a wonderful experience.
There are fancier places that merit a 5...but for boiled seafood and chowder, I don't think you can beat this place. Fair prices, and fabulous crab. Great New England clam chowder. Margaritas rocked.
We got chicken salad sandwich. I did not like the seasoning so I did not eat mine. Cold french fries. You would expect fresh food at this price. Me my husband 2 chicken salad sandwiches cold french fries water to drink. 33 dollars.
'Award winning' (?!?) Shack Stew was a tiny $6 inedible thick glob.
Mussels 'in wine sauce' appetizer was under seasoned and unappetizing.
Key Lime pie could've come from a vending machine.
Service was inattentive and distracted.
No fried food here.
Unless you really like crab, don't eat here.
If you're going to Tybee, make sure to stop by the crab shack. They've got a back deck under a canopy of live oaks against a tidal river. And live (though not lively) gators!
BEST FOOD IN TYBEE!
This outdoor seafood restaurant had us seated, served, and leaving within an hour. The service was just that good and fast. We ordered the Captain Sampler for 2 people at $39.99.
The sampler had a lot of food so it was WAY worth it. The corn was the sweetest and best corn I've ever had and I can't even begin to describe the great crab legs, shrimp, sausage, and mussels.
We finished our meal perfectly with a slice of key lime pie for $4.95. Also delicious!
Plus its a relaxed atmosphere with adorable cats laying around. Who doesn't like watching a chubby tomcat waddle by the table in all his fluffy glory?
This restaurant was okay. Definitely overrated. The food is okay, its all served on styrofoam and has very small portion sizes for the price. I've had better seafood for less elsewhere. Definitely go downtown and find something else you'd like. I will say the service was great even though the food was mediocre.
The food is amazing. The atmosphere is relaxing. It is my favorite place to eat when visiting Tybee.
Didn't eat, just came in for a beer by myself. My first visit to Georgia, let alone quirky Tybee Island.
Bartender Angus made me feel right at home, even though I was an out of place New Yorker (originally from Hawaii). I definitely stood out amongst the regulars. But I was treated to the greatest hospitality ever. Also got to meet the night bartender Lynne, who's really outgoing and friendly. Loved her too. I'll admit the place looks cheesy when you arrive, but don't let it deter you. The people there will make it an unforgettable experience. Can't wait to come back and see them all again. And next time I'll try the food.
This was the best seafood I've ever had! The staff is very friendly and the environment and location is overwhelmingly amazing! Any chance I get, I'm coming back!
I always eat the Captains Sampler. It's my favorite seafood place around. The atmosphere is nice even if you sit inside the view is great and you feel like you're outside minutes the bugs and despite some people complaining about the cats that wander around. I find them a real nice addition. After all a majority of the seating is outdoors.
Came to the island to visit and googled restaurants and this popped up.
So glad we did.
Food was fantastic, awesome atmosphere, and the bloody Mary's were perfect.
Would highly recommend
The best crab i've ever had, the cold slaw was absolutely great , the smashed potatoes were the best.
I can't wait to go back!
The wait wasn't bad and we choose out door seating. Once we got to our table it was 20 minutes or more before a server even came to our table. The Gnats were awful!!!!! They kept getting in our drinks and food. Our server came to check on us once and at one point I had to go track her down to get something. She seemed frazzled. I think they were understaffed. The food was really good but we couldn't really enjoy it. If you go make sure to eat inside and hopefully they hire more servers so they can give better customer service.
Nice restaurant. We went Sunday right when they opened and the service was great and fast. Gnats were not that bad at all but the weather was kind of cool outside. Crab legs are the vest. They don't fry anything everything is boiled or steamed, I wish I knew that ahead of time. Other than that good experience.
The sampler platter was fantastic--lots to try and so much food! We waited about 10 minutes before our server came to get our drink order, but she was very apologetic and seemed a bit over-assigned to tables. She was very attentive when she could get to our table. Outside was chilly, and waitstaff kept moving the heaters away from our table. I would suggest sitting inside if you are going for more than a drink. It was an interesting place to go to. The alligators were a big hit with the kids.
I've been coming here with my family ever since I was little.. I live in central GA and make short trips to Tybee whenever I can, and eat here on all of them. If you're a tourist looking up best seafood restaurants around Tybee, go to the Crab Shack. It's a very laid back, chill beachy shack that serves the BEST seafood. I will always recommend the Crab Stew as an appetizer, and the Captains Seafood Sampler as your entreé. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, as well as the cute cats who randomly wonder around. Seating is mostly outside, and yes there are nats. Put on bug spray if that bothers you. Also an alligator lagoon. You can feed the alligators and take pictures after your meal, as well as a gift shop next door. Highly recommend this restaurant to those who are looking to eat fresh seafood while having a beautiful view, and a great time.
The Crab Shack never fails to impress. The clam chowder is delicious, and the platters will leave you full and your hands wonderfully sticky. The seafood, as you would expect, is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Go with the crab platter, which includes two types of crab, shrimp, crawfish, mussels, potatoes, corn, and sausage, and you will leave a happy (and full to the brim) diner.
Great seats at the window overlooking the marsh. Otters playing on the docks. Food was great. Quick service by Mary C. Great host and waiter who helped me find my wife!
Can't help but like the place. We'll be back
PS Our driver Ben from the Savannah Tour Trolley turned us on to the place. Good guy even if he is Georgia fan !!
The atmosphere was unique, a huge shack by the river with options to sit indoors or out on the deck.
Kids enjoyed walking over the alligator pit and hanging out before being seated.
We were seated on deck by the river which was pleasant, but there were bugs that attacked us and random cats walking the rails and roaming the deck which I didn't find appealing while eating.
Table set up was not good. There is a huge stilted platform in the middle of the table full of condiments and such, so I couldn't see my daughter across from me. What's the point in eating out with someone if you can't see them?
We ordered the crab stew which was good but small for the price and the captain's platter for 2 which was plenty of food for us and $40, so not too bad. Mussels, crawfish, crab, and sausage were good, but the shrimp lacked flavor altogether. The potatoes were cold and only got 2 pieces of corn.
Kids tried it but didn't like it, so ordered Mac n Cheese and a cheeseburger. The Mac n Cheese was made with spiral pasta and some sort of white cheese in a small side dish that my daughter hated. The cheeseburger was lonely with no chips or fries...and both were expensive for what they got.
Service was mediocre, bathrooms were not too clean and faucet was coming off, and the dirt surfaced parking lot left us all with filthy feet.
The Crab Shack is nothing to write home about, but try it if you like.
Really great little place. If you're looking for great crab legs and a place with a different feel, this is it! Don't let the crowded lot fool you. They can seat up to 750 people. They've really done a nice job keeping it rustic. They built their outdoor seating area around the existing trees and have nice big fans to create a breeze on hot summer days. Gorgeous view of the marsh. The Tybee Tea (cocktail) was AWESOME! I wasn't too impressed with the low country boil, but it wasn't terrible. My friend ordered the crab legs and they were fantastic. A little on the thin side, but very good. Our waitress wasn't exactly attentive. She catered more to the large party that came in after us. I loved the bird sanctuary. They have a room with rescued birds and they are so sweet! The small gators were neat too, but I wasn't thrilled with their living conditions. They looked happy though.
Ida was an awesome server! She was fun to talk to and great at recommendations. The food was amazing. The cats were fun. The view was great. The gators were mildly terrifying. You'll love it!
Freshest crab ever had. Great view, and great service. Don't forget to go around the place to spend some quality time with the rescued birds and alligators. Yeah, you heard it right.
Low country boil was excellent. Chicken salad sandwich not great but they took it off of our check. Clam chowder and blue crab stew excellent. Atmosphere is nice, we were out next to the water and it was nice and breezy (lots of flies outside if that bothers you but we enjoyed it) and the view was great next to the water. Didn't have platter and but they look excellent. We will definitely come back next trip.
Boiled shrimp here are the reason to visit-- not the kitschy tourist trappings. Fresh, sweet. In the shell shrimp; $17 for a pound. It's also a friendly, relaxed, relaxing place to hang out and enjoy Georgia coastal culture with a diverse crowd.
Fabulous casual dining dress up or shorts, sandals and tees allowed. TCS offers boiled seafood from Low Country Boils to pounds of peel & eat shrimp. Great desserts too. Try the Key Lime pie! Our server Desiree was awesome👍
Great atmosphere, service good during non-busy time. Food is low quality, including sauces. When we inquired where the oysters and shrimp were from, the waiter did not know....other than "all over", making me think it was from sources such as China. Do not recommend.
The Orignal The Crab Shack of Tybee Island. GA. This is a great place to eat and enjoy Southern style fresh seafood food. On this night we had the honor eating at the bar and chatting with the owners, these are great people and wonderful wait staff.. I just recommend if you want crab legs just go ahead and order the 1lb. I just wish they had a instagram account so I can Tag my photos in,...
The Crab Shack is a very unique restaurant on Tybee Island. We enjoyed seeing the baby alligators before going inside to eat. This place specializes in crab and the menu isn't extensive, which I appreciated and nothing here is fried. Everything we ordered seemed very fresh. Our waitress was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this restaurant when visiting Tybee.
Ate here while on a family trip, and absolutely loved it. We sat out side by the water and even got to see some dolphins swimming by. The food was amazing and came out very quickly. They also have a bird exhibit and a feed the alligator area for the kids. The overall environment of this place is truly one to be seen.
This awesome place has the best atmosphere and friendly staff. We ordered the low country boil, which is our favorite item on the menu. If you look up in the trees under the outside dining area, you will see birds in the trees. If you have toddlers, kids and children, you can keep them occupied with all the little hidden treasures to find including tiny alligators at the entrance of the restaurant. Not far off is a fun little boat parked close by with skeletons hanging inside. For the chilly times of the year, they do have heaters which really adds to the atmosphere. I topped off my seafood platter with a chocolate cake. It was sinfully delicious and warm on the inside. This is the most unique outdoor restaurant I have ever been to.
Without a doubt best seafood in Georgia!!!!! We moved here from Maryland over a yr ago and today we FINALLY found our 'go to' seafood fun house!! Mandy was an amazing & sweet waitress making us feel comfortable!! We can't wait until my parents come down from Md in a few weeks....first stop...CRAB SHACK!!!!
If you want to experience fresh sea food come here to enjoy. Good quality of food at a good price. A total sea food lovers paradise. The only thumbs down to this place is that you have to register your phone number and wait till you are texted and called to have a seat. In that time you can roam around and go clicking the little crocodiles they have displayed for their guest or they have a beautiful lake connecting their restaurant side , just sit and relax in the deck.
This is the most awesome place for seafood on Tybee or in Savannah. Steamed platter is the best choice. No fried food here. Only really good steamed seafood. Great drinks. Nice outdoor seating along the river. Great views. Watch out for the wildlife though. Otters on the docks, cats along the walkways, mosquitoes in the air.
Quirky restaurant with good fresh seafood. We were there in the off season but judging from the size of the parking lot I imagine it gets crazy busy in peak season. It's totally casual & kid friendly. You're not going to get gourmet dishes but you will get good basic seafood
We have been coming here for over 15 years. The food is as great as it was the first time we came, but the portions have gotten smaller. The Captain's platter for two used to fill my wife and I up and we would even leave some on the plate. We ate there memorial day weekend, 2017. We left hungry this time. They have really cut back on their portions.
We love this place. This is a must visit in Tybee. The outside ambience really lets you enjoy the southern weather. We visited everything we come down. The sampler it's huge and we split it with the whole family. It is delicious. I can't wait till we get to go back again.
Everyone that knew we would be in the area advised going here for a good meal. If you are unfamiliar with the low country boil this would be something to remember. It was our first time at The Crab Shack but not the first boil. Compared to others it was not outstanding. Much of the seafood was cold and the crawfish was overcooked. The taste was mostly good. The atmosphere was great. The service was great. Overall, I would go back but it did not meet the hype.
This place is so cool!! Delicious food, view of the water from the outdoor seating, amazingly fun decor, friendly and helpful staff!! I think all the dining is outside but, there was plenty of shade and I really hate being in the sun. There was shade fabric stretch across overhead. Some seats were in the sun and some under this fabric. There was a wonderful breeze blowing through all the time and a gorgeous view of the waterway and boats. The decorations are really interesting and there's fun music playing. I had a good time just waiting on the food! -which didn't take very long at all. My table shared low country boil and deviled crabs. Amazing!!! Very fresh and well seasoned. Even the corn was delicious. After we ate, we fed the alligators and took pictures with the various statues of alligators and a pirate turtle and other crazy characters. I realized at that point that the restaurant was packed!! The way the layout is, we never noticed while we were sitting down. I live 6 hours away in Knoxville and I'm already counting the days until I get to go back!!
My friends and I dined here tonight as part of our vacation outing this week. Great atmosphere, albeit a definite tourist attraction, great food, and pleasant service. I had the low country boil and the flavors were spot on. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the sausage snapped. I'm not entirely sure how I felt about the warm pecan pie, but its flavor was on point.
Very nice experience and I'll be stopping by again before we leave.
Definitely the place to go for a down-home "Low Country Boil". Good food (especially crabs, duh. Check the name), incredible view over the river, & tons of cool stuff to check out. There are live alligators you can feed plus a room full of rescued parrots and birds. The seafood is super fresh and locally sourced. Only downside is how busy it is no matter when you go, but we'll worth it.
The best low country boil & love the 1/2 shrimp & 1/2 crab legs! We drive in from Atlanta for the day to have lunch! Friendly staff & check out the salt hand scrub stations to get the seafood smell off! But don't feed the cats. They get feed very well & have the best coastal cat life! But they live attention! 😺😎🍤🍹💕
This is a must destination for every visit to Savannah. 30+ minutes from downtown Savannah on Tybee Island, worth the drive for good seafood. We normally get the combo plate which gives you a great combination of snow crab, Jonah crab, crawfish, sausage and corn. Baby clams are sweet and juicy. Must have the crab shack soup, thick and creamy. Our last visit we just concentrated on the Jonah crab and baby clams. Snow crab was a disappointment this time around, didn't taste as fresh as previous experiences. Still a very good experience and will always be our go to destination when in the Savannah area.
The Deviled Crab was absolutely DELICIOUS! Also, the Key Lime Pie was the best I've ever tasted (which is saying a lot because I am quite picky when it comes to desserts). The service was a tad bit slow, but the food and atmosphere definitely made up for it. Plus, there are cats, exotic birds, and baby alligators. What more could you want? Highly recommend!!!!
Great food. The go to meal is the Crab Shack Sampler. It is more shrimp, crab, crawfish, mussels, sausage, and potatoes than you can eat. Great atmosphere with lots of things to see and do. You can feed alligators, see their tropical birds, or just enjoy the coastal views. Usually very busy so enjoy the other activities while you wait to be seated.
Great place to chill, eat great seafood,(and nachos,,awesome nachos) and they have a full bar!!
Gift shop is attached to an exotic bird rescue room full of chatty, beautiful birds,,stop in and say hello to Michael! Do not forget the alligators that you can feed,,and be sure to give a nice behind the ear scratch to the many cats that call the property home. All rescues and all spayed or neutered. Eat inside or out in good weather with great views,,great music,,fun for all! Don't forget the key lime pie.😜
Definitely get your money's worth on the king crab. The chicken salad sandwich was huge. Both were excellent. Second time getting raw oysters. No taste and pale looking again (thus the 4 stars). Great service.
It was our first visit and we will definitely come back. Food was delicious and good size portions. Our waitress was so nice - knowledgeable, very friendly, and helpful.
About size of a portion - we had a boiled seafood plate for one, but it so big that it was plenty for two.
They have small alligators at the front so you can enjoy feeding them while waiting for your table. Which again - waiting time was impressive. On Saturday night our waiting time was 5 minutes.
If you go to Savannah or Tybee Island you you have to eat at The Crab Shack just for the atmosphere. Either feed the Alligators or feed your scraps to the cats when you're done eating. Its just a cool place to hang out under the old Spanish moss oak trees. You must go once if you visit Savannah. We usually get the big platter that has all the different shellfish and low country boil. Good value you can feed at least three people with it. Me and my wife sharing usually don't eat it all. Great food with beer.
This was our first dining experience in Tybee Island and we won't be back. We were excited because The Crab Shack was highly recommended by friends who visited a few years ago. I had the low country boil and my husband ordered a pound of shrimp and a side of sausage. The sausage was delicious but everything else was underseasoned and tasted like it had been boiled in plain water. The decor was fine but pretty over the top to draw tourists I'm sure. The server was fine. The gator pit was pretty cool. There were some stray cats which they take care of so that was the most awesome part of the experience.
Everyone should visit this place at least once. Great Seafood. Casual environment. Unique dining experience. I recommend the seafood sampler or the crab legs. Don't forget to order the coconut cream pie for dessert.
The Crab Shack was a great experience while exploring Tybee Island! If you are hungry and enjoy seafood, this is a great place to go. The amount of food you get is almost a ton and it tastes good. The only reason I will not give it a five star is because of the price, it is quite pricey, but you do get quality for that price. If you have the money, I recommend stopping here for lunch.
This place is a staple of Tybee. You pretty much have to go here, at least once. They don't do anything fried, everything is boiled or steamed. Really good low country boils, shrimp by the half pound, etc. Good food, funky fun outdoor atmosphere. This is not an upscale kinda place. If you're looking for 5 star dining, this ain't it. I have seen palmetto/water bugs, and they definitely have a few cays running around. If you're living the island life and want some good, fresh seafood, this is where it's at.
So much fun. Great food though they don't serve anything fried. Lots of parking and seats over 750 people (I asked). Indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor is like outdoor but screened off. It was chilly the night we went but they have radiators overhead that keep everyone toasty. The sampler platter is the way to go. It is huge! All broiled seafood here. Oh they have a live gator pond too. The kids will enjoy feeding them. Just don't lean over the rail too far or they'll be the gator food.
It's got decent, fresh, crustaceans. That's all that can be said for food quality. The staff are pleasant, if you like the 'dude-bro' crowd. The kitchen faire is...middling.
The best you can say about the food is they generally won't serve suspicious shellfish.
But it's overpriced.
This is a place tourists come for a Jimmy B. -meets- swamp kind of casual. Christmas lights clash with overly loud jukebox music.
If you want daiquiri, crab and a gift shop to show you've been to Tybee Island, this is your place. Other than that...look for where the locals go.
This restaurant has become a stable on our trips to the area. The atmosphere here is fantastic with primarily outdoor seating. Great views. Quality of food is always amazing. You won't leave dissatisfied.
If you go to Tybee Island and you want seafood, this place is a must. As always, seafood comes with a price tag, but if you have the stomach capacity you will definitely get your money's worth. The Captain's Platter is perfect for those with big appetites. The place is always bustling and has the feel of a tourist trap (like everything else near Tybee). I wasn't pleased with the alligator pond, but again... tourist trap. However, the food is great, the staff are friendly, and it's a great place for big groups and couples dining.
Service was friendly and prompt, they also had a cool gator area outside. You can even buy food and feed the Gators. Their prices were a bit high for me and the food portions were very small. I ordered crab and shrimp and my wife simply got shrimp. They don't offer fries or any thing of that nature with these meals. The shrimp was great but after paying around 35 dollars, we were left hungry within an hour of leaving here because we had no carbs. Just my 2 cents.
The Crab Shack is always a must when visiting Savannah. We LOVE it. Today however our server John M.#423(according to the receipt) did not check in on us during the entire meal which was 1hour. He seemed bothered by us when we were first seated and we had to tear him away from a conversation next to us just to get our food and drinks ordered. We would have loved another cocktail or more water even. Had to get another waitress(who was very nice)to get our check and to go boxes. John was very attentive to the group of 6 outwardly affluent women seated next to us but would not stop at our table or make eye contact with us. This was so disappointing and frustrating because we love the Crab shack.
This is our favorite place to eat when we visit Tybee Island! Going home tomorrow, but already looking forward to returning. Great seafood - we never order anything else. Everything we've ever eaten here has been delicious. A bit pricey, but worth the cost!
We visit this restaurant every time we go to Tybee. This restaurant, hidden right inside of Tybee Island is a very unique gem. From the outside there are alligators and it literally looks like a shack in the middle of a bunch of houses. When you go inside it is lit by neat lights and you realize it was built around the trees. The inside atmosphere is worth it by itself. If you’re in the mood to sit outside, you get a great view of the lake. Most people order the platter which is well worth it. It comes with a ton of food and there are different size options depending on how many people are in your party. None of the food is fried so if you are looking for that this is not the place for you. The food comes out fast and is always good. There are stray cats on the property that they take care of that will visit you if you want them to. Make sure to stop by the gift shop before you head out.
Loved this place! The drinks, deviled crabs and crab stew were all delicious. My son had the steamed shrimp and thought they were a little over cooked compared to other shrimp we had on the island. The location is super cool- outside seating and alligator feeding.
You should go here. Fresh seafood. Fun environment. Watch out for unusually high tide or else you might not be able to drive in our out. The drinks are good. The food is hot. The service is good. Feed the gators if you like. Enjoy the tiki decor. Take home a carved coconut from I've of the specialty drinks. Next time we're at Tybee Island, we'll definitely make another stop here! Can't wait!!
Full disclosure, we stopped here on the way back to Savannah from Tybee pretty much just to feed the gators and for a bathroom break.
The restaurant was packed, so the food must be good!
Feeding the gators was a ton of fun, $3 a bag, well worth it for the novelty. Bathrooms were clean and staff was friendly.
I’d love to come back and try the food!
We have visited this place about a dozen times. Each time we have enjoyed good service and extra effort from the staff. The decor is super fun and there is a nice water view. The price mark is on par with the service and quality of food. Thank you crab shack tybee staff for our wonderful meal experiences. In an area covered with good seafood, your place has some things that help it stand out. Mainly, your staff.
Great ambiance and setting. Wonderful seafood boils but it was a bit salty for our taste. There were no sauce variety. Service by one of the waitress was not pleasant but the second waitress made up for it. I enjoyed the Dungeness crab. It's a great place to relax on the water
Loved this little eclectic place! A series of little shacks surround the property with inside and outside dining and bars. We sat outside on the deck under the grand live oaks to eat. I enjoyed the low country boil and their to-die-for fantastic deviled crab. Lots to look at...exotic birds, cats, feed the alligators. Great backdrops for pics. Kids would love this place.
Absolutely fantastic. We didn't even know about this place until we saw a little sign on a bench. I don't normally leave reviews, let alone 5 stars. First, the atmosphere of th Crab Shack is amazing, a huge deck and several large screened patios and tons of charm to it. They've got waterside views, beautiful trees and decorations, and even a neat little alligator pond folks seem to love. Second, the food was great. This is some good southern style seafood. There's nothing fried, it's all steamed and boiled. The seafood boils are fantastic, as well as the soups and deviled crabs. Bring your appetite, there's a lot of good food!
A good laid-back seafood place. They have a decent selection. We're fond of the low country boil. Shrimp, potatoes, corn on the cob, and sausage. All on a huge platter to share with your friends while sitting out on a huge deck next to the water (they have a few screened in areas too). Worth going to, especially if you have a larger group.
Fantastic food as ALWAYS! Our server, Jessica, was amazing. She took great care of us. We love sitting outside by the water. However, we miss the sugar scrub for your hands for after you eat. I wish they at least still sold it in the gift shop.
This place is amazing! Fast, friendly service. The food is delicious. It's one of the largest eateries I've ever seen. There were 4 buses that arrived just ahead of us and I just knew we would have to wait at least an hour if not more, but to my pleasant surprise, 15 minutes after putting our name on the waiting list we were seated. Then, after being seated, we ordered and our food was at the table in less than 10 minutes! Now that's my kind of service. 25 minutes from parking lot to eating! Awesome! Highly recommended.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here!! I had the snow crab legs, one cluster was a bit overcooked and the meat stick to the inside of the shell but the other was perfect. My server was fast, attentive and accommodating. My kids loved feeding the gators after dinner and the atmosphere was perfect after a day at the beach. I suggest you sit outside! Beautiful water view and the trees provide good shade.
Wow! We are first timers here and on Tybee. I heard good things about this place so decided to try it and we were blown away. The atmosphere is so awesome with the trees and mist. The service was incredible!! Anna did a fantastic job. The food was so very delicious. We ordered the 4 person captains sampler and everything was delicious. The seasoning was so good. This was the best meal of our trip.
the shack was absolutely delicious and wonderful service. we walked in with no wait or reservation. the waitress was always around and made sure our glasses were full. food was great but I really enjoyed the pecan pie and key lime pie. you'll probably need to wear stretchy pants when you go. you got the option to feed the gators too
Great food, service, and atmosphere. I enjoyed dining outside near the water. I love the Low Country Boil and you can't go wrong with the Key Lime pie or coconut cream pie for dessert. The kids loved the alligator lagoon and the bird sanctuary in the gift shop. I'll definitely be visiting again anytime I'm in Savannah.
Very underwhelmed. On an oppressively hot day they only had outdoor seating. They had fans, which normally would have been fine, however we had just got done with a hot outdoor activity and was looking forward to a cool setting. We sat for almost 10 minutes before our waitress greeted us to get our drink order. Small portions for the price. $3 to get a packet of 4 pieces to feed the alligators. If you are not careful they will fall off the hooks before you even have the chance to feed them. Also, we were there in August which according to Google is shrimp season and we watched several boxes of frozen shrimp being brought in off a US Foods truck. At minimum the shrimp isn’t fresh and I would be willing to bet it isn’t local either.
This is the best destination for steamed or broiled seafood! And an all around fun experience feeding the alligators, enjoying the view, and walking through the parrot exhibit. Although the birds look like they need a lot more attention & affection. I raised birds for a few years & many of them in the parrot exhibit need medical attention & lots of TLC!!! Seeing that really hurt my heart. Please care for your birds!! They need love too!!
Best place in Tybee to go! Great service and amazing food! Make sure you don't leave without feeding the alligators, it's so cool and so much fun to do! There is also a nice gift shop and a room filled with parrots! It is a unique, gorgeous, place to eat!! Do NOT leave Tybee island without giving this place a try!!
This place is awesome!! My sons birthday was yesterday, he got married today and his new wife's birthday is tomorrow. We had the greatest time and the food and atmosphere is just so fine. What better way to celebrate 2 birthdays and a wedding. Thank you Crab Shack for the best day ever!!! Debbie
The minute you enter the parking lot you know this place is special. You dine under a canopy of trees, the portions are gigantic and the food is delicious. When it rains they, quickly, bring you inside. There's a pit full of baby alligators. It's a laid back, fun place for the whole family. Since you are dining outdoors I suggest you put on mosquito repellent.
We loved it here!!! Food was amazing as well as the margaritas. Loved feeding the baby alligators. My husband and I can't believe we waited till the last day of our vacation to come here. Server was very nice. Everything was great.
I've eaten here before but was part of a large group tonight. The wait staff was on fire! Kept our drinks full and orders came out very fast. They were all so sweet! There was tons of us there and you wouldn't have noticed, great job ladies! The birds were cool too. One of them had a great conversation with my daughter. Very fun night.
Ranged from excellent to below average. Low country boil was great food and fun to eat. Loved the tables with hole in centre for garbage. The other things we tried were not good. Oysters were dry and looked like they were opened earlier in day and kept in fridge. Wife had ribs and a bit rubbery but maybe ribs at crab shack wasn't meant to be.
I think sticking to what they do good would be a good experience for most.
O my what do I say.... This place is my absolute all time favourite. This is always a must for me and my family when we come to Savannah and we're still loving it. Keep it up. Love the originality. The food. Grand. The big old crab boil. Always gets cleaned out. Delicious.
Fantastic atmosphere. Working cats, baby alligators to feed, a bird sanctuary full of adorable exotic birds, and amazing food.
Get the crab sampler for 2. Its more than enough to feed 3 or 4 people, and costs $50. You get like 3 different crabs, crawdads, shrimp, corn, potatoes, kielbasa, mussels and butter sauce to dip it all in!
Unique seafood boiler dining by the water. Small crabs run around on the deck chased by local cats as you eat. Kids will love the gator pond and can feed them with poles. No fried food is served here just fresh seafood, chicken and ribs. Our server Anthony was pleasant and helpful even showing us how to eat crawfish. Go in the evening since it has no air conditioning.
Enjoyed a Sunday lunch on overheard recommendations. The lunch specials are not a lot of food for sure, but it is good. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Th whole place is a great place to stop for some local flavor and southern kitsch. Live alligators, meandering cats and waterfront scenery. Totally worthwhile stop on Tybee Island.
If you want atmosphere this place has it in spades! You get to dine under large low hanging branches of live oaks! (Outdoor dinning only!) They have a bird rescue and alligator pools that are fun to see while you wait for a table. They can accommodate large groups and great for couples as well! They have very limited bathrooms so sometimes there is a wait. The food is good, but a little pricey.
This is what eating on the coast is all about! Great menu, with dining outside on the water or inside in inclimate weather. Seemed to be reasonable pricing across the board. I believe it to be wheelchair accessible. Plenty of free parking outside. What's better than a bowl of chowder, steamed muscles and a cold beer...nothing!
The service was good, the decor was unique and the place was beautiful. However, the food was a little salty to my palate. I ordered the Captain Crab Sampler platter. I could hardly taste the natural flavor of the crab and shrimp as it was overpowered with that salty spice they sprinkled all over my seafood. I would still go back and order the same but will request no salty spice powder sprinkled on top of my food.
My favorite place to eat anywhere in Savannah. Love the laid back vibe & atmosphere. Sitting outside is a must. Never been during the colder months. King crab legs are my go to along with the low country boil served as platters for sharing. Make sure to see the alligator pond and the amazing birds inside the gift shop!
Real gators are pretty damn cool! There are tropical birds and loveable cats as well. The view is amazing and the atmosphere is great fun.
You get lots of food for your money, you will not leave here hungry.
The wait staff is friendly and attentive.
This place is great for parties!
You won't find a better place for drinks and getting that attention you desire.
Nice tourist attraction. The alligator pounds are very nice to look at and the birds in the gift shops are hilarious. The fact that the birds are all rescues make it even better. The “cat house” did cause an unpleasant odor outside of the gift shop, but at least it was on the way out. The food was good but not as great as it’s talked up to be. Overall it was nice place for my hubby and I to get away for an evening.
One of the top 3 places I've eaten. Of course I love crabs. You'll want to eat inside if you have trouble with gnats since the city has a ton of them. It's a very stylish place you won't forget anytime soon. Check out the islands, then come eat here and enjoy the view. The service doesn't take long either, and the food isn't bad as a result.
A little touristy, but great place to hangout. I really love the setting and outdoor dining... just feels like vacation.
The food is very good and so is the service. Always have to go see the alligator lagoon too.😎👍
Prices were a smidge high. This place is very fun for kids and a bit touristy. The bird room and alligator pond are cute additions if you need time to stretch your legs after eating. Also has great views.
My family and I were staying in Tybee Island and they were ecstatic about eating here so we ventured out to this establishment . When we arrived it was an very laid back and fun looking place but wasn't busy on a Saturday night. This should've been a red flag. We shrimp were over cooked and the rest well I'm just saying we will never be back there again.
Good food and fun experience! They have great food. I enjoyed the crab stew and shrimp. They do not have anything fried so if you are looking for that go somewhere else. The BBQ SAUCE was delicious and in house made.
The gift shop had rescue exotic birds including a 63plus year old macaw called bonnie! She was so old she naps on the floor of the cage sometimes. It is nice the Shack does that for the birds giving them a safe home with lots of love. They have cats roaming outside as well makes me happy a animal lover must own the place. Great place all around!
Was a really fun place to eat during our night in Tybee. Seriously the atmosphere and ambiance of the place is so fun and unique, Exactly what we were looking for. The food wasn’t anything amazing in my opinion, but it was fine and reasonably priced for a touristy town. Best part was just the overall experience. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a fun, unique, photo-worthy place to eat on Tybee Island.
This place is wonderful. Not fancy but full of waterfront rustic charm. If you don't like seafood go somewhere else. If you want a fun laid back dinner of delicious seafood this is where to go. The alligator pen / pond is fun too.
My wife and i came out for some of the real 'country' food - low country boil and crawdaddies! We got both and some great atmosphere on a nice sunny day. This place is a lot of fun and pokes fun at itself (they post table manner rules) and nothing is too serious. The setting is very relaxing albeit off the beaten path. The food itself was very good and just what we were looking for. The service was fun and efficient and enjoyed talking about the area.
No idea what it’s like in summer, but in January it was terrific. The place looks a bit odd and amateur-touristy outside but it’s great. Loved the alligator pond, and the room of rescued pet birds. The food was *delicious.* A caveat — I don’t know if it’s a local thing or not, but don’t order the barbecue sandwich unless you really like yellow mustard. It’s a major ingredient. Fortunately, I do. Had just the right amount of spicy. New Brunswick stew, yum. Crab stew, yum. I need a recipe! Fun atmosphere. I bet it’d be a great place to hangout on summer evenings.
I rarely give a restaurant five stars but this one deserved it.
The ambience was wonderful. They go above and beyond to set the atmosphere like you are in the Louisiana bayou. They even have a moat with dozens of live alligators. they are baby alligators, but still very entertaining to look at.
The restaurant is half out, half indoor. It winds around and you can easily get lost on your first visit.
All of the staff we encountered were quite accommodating. We ordered the deviled crab and a low country boil plate. Both were huge portions and very flavorful.
There's a hole in the center of the table you sit at. Underneath it is a trash can to throw the seafood shells into. Good thinking!
We arrived at a busy time but were still seated quickly. There were standing heaters near the outdoor tables which I thought was very considerate of them since it was a bit chilly.
I absolutely loved the experience. It took eating and entertainment to a delightfully more enjoyable level.
This restaurant has an alligator curled up in the front entrance to greet you. As you drive up to the property, you are met with oversized gravel parking lots in a wooded canopy facing the ocean. Very scenic bayou theme with picnic style tables on a huge outside patio. Servers are attentive and friendly. Seafood portions oversized, delicious and extremely fresh. A fun spot with fair prices. Would recommend stopping when you are on Tybee.
Our waiter was the best, sweet and on top of our needs. The atmosphere is pretty much the best thing about this place to me. Their chili cheese nachos were good. I got their low country boil and the shrimp come with the shell on and they are so hard to peel off once they've been cooked. Also the seasoning doesn't get on the meat. The potatoes and sausage weren't even all that good. My mother and son got crab legs and loved them. I'm pretty sure the pies are store bought and not worth it. Also after tip my bill was 160.00 for two adults and 3 children and I hated my meal which makes it hard to spend that much money.
What a fabulously fun, terrifically tasty and incredibly inviting place to spend the evening. The *Original* Crab Shack was recommended by a coworker who was spot on! Such a colorful location to enjoy with equally colorful flavors. The seafood boil for four was amazing. We were lucky enough to be in town for a Junkanoo performance by a group from Nassau, Bahamas.
If you are staying in Savannah it's worth the trek to The Crab Shack.... Not to be confused with Joe's.
This place is totally legit. Price tag may seem a wee bit high but it definitely met its expectations.
Excellent service and decor too.
A must go while in town. Even better in low season.
First visit to Savannah and we park a block away from mother & sons. My wife says, isn't that Paula Deen's resturant? I'm like yeah... we say let's go....read this and 1862 more
