Delicious food with good service. Every time I've been there the food has been on point and service excellent. Chicken, plantains, goat- all delicious. Not many cheaper options, otherwise I'd go more! The decor is a bit off to me with padded tables that remind me of an old pizza place. The chef takes pride in his food and has come out to talk to us each time.
I enjoy Chef Carl Lewis' unique cooking so much I just asked him to cater our office holiday party. The jerk chicken introduced some of our picky eaters to true Caribbean cuisine. Chef prepared amazing roast turkey and stuffing for those uncurious and unwilling to experiment. Fried plantains were also eye-openers to the uninitiated, along with salmon pasta and red beans and rice. We have never received so many compliments from our staff for an amazing holiday adventure. Go. Try. Enjoy.
Loved it! The conch fritters are a yummy, spiced cornbread with bits of conch meat, perfectly fried and served with a sweet/tangy white dipping sauce. Sort of an island-improved falafel. The "large" entree of jerk chicken - delicious and perfectly prepared. And plenty generous, anyone who might order this particular item and complain about portion sizes must have an enormous stomach!
Upscale island inspired dishes in a chic modern space. The Caribbean wings are sweet with a little kick. The rasta pasta with salmon is creamy and filling. Great spot for a date!
I went here for the first time this week and I was very pleasantly surprised. The inside is very neat and clean, fun colors and a comfortable atmosphere. I got the jerk chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, which was great. But what really stood out to me was the service- the waitress was very friendly and attentive, and at one point the young man sweeping the floor noticed our water glasses were empty and stopped what he was doing to fill them. Towards the end of our meal the chef came out to ask our opinion on the food and the service. I loved my experience here, I will definitely be coming back. I really hope this place lasts.
Emaculate n clean faciliy, Good hospitality, great customer service. However, not enough cluck for the buck or spice for the price. In other words too much money for the quantity on the takeout tray. I had the oxtail plate little rice n mostly bones for the entree. I did call to inform them. I intend to go back again in hopes of change but only one more chance will be given as it will be my 4th time.
Greeters are welcoming.
Simple & authentic menu items or other choices with a twist!
Only did takeout.... next time I will eat in!
The taste and flavor was amazing!
Heard great things & they defiantly live up to it!
I ordered the blackened talapia with mango salsa w/ garlic mash & collard greens!
I will be back & soon!
This place is one of West Philly's best kept secret. I've been here several times and often get the tilapia or the salmon entrees. The food is always fresh, the service is super nice. It's a nice and relaxing place to have some good home cooking.
I had the weekend brunch and everything was fabulous. I ordered biscuits and sausage gravy, which was some of the best I've ever tasted. The eggs and potatoes were also great. I ordered a side of scrapple, which was perfectly cooked and very flavorful from a local butcher. I finished with a side of delicious, plump and juicy fried sweet platains. Delicious!
The food is always perfectly cooked , from the rice to the pasta , veggies and meats. Their flavors are authentic and delicious . Sometimes you get a personal visit from the Chef too. I love that its byob! If it's your first time try the island wings and Rasta pasta.
Tastes like home cooked and better. Great portions for the price you pay. Pulled pork sandwich was a wonderful mix of sweet and tangy.
Authentic Jamaican cuisine. Great ambience and friendly staff. This is definitely a place I'll return to for great tasting food.
The chef can out and greeted us and we spoke about the menu briefly.
We had the traditional breakfast, ackee and salt fish, fried dumplings, plantains and for some reason collards, but it was still good. We also had the shrimp and grits which had great flavor and was cooked to perfection.
The ox tail was so yummy and sooo tender.
The Jamaican Jerk quesedilla was great.
The hostess, waitress and chef (he came out to meet us) were very nice, and very friendly and proud of the quality of their food.
I'll be back!
Sounds like they have an amazing brunch.
My food was delicious!!! I had jerk chicken wings cooked to perfection & the pineapple ranch dip was to die for! The peas and rice was amazing! My favorite is the vegetable slaw OMG! All hats off to the CHEF!
The food was great but the customer service could have been better. They did not seem prepared to handle a busy environment. This place has the potential to be very successful. The food is on point, just focus more on the customers make sure they are enjoying their experience even if the place is busy because being busy is a good thing in the restaurant business.
Omg the curry goat was sooooo good!!! That was the most tender and best tasting goat I ever had! The cabbage was also very good.
The best Jamaican food a Jamaican could ever want to eat. I remember thinking after taking the first bite of my order: at last, a Jamaican restaurant that actually has food that TASTES like Jamaican food. The Chef comes out to interact with his customers! Great tableside manners. The ambiance is unbelievable. A diamond in the rough. Go!! You must!!!
We were seated in less than a minute. Our order came 10-15 minutes later. The food was good!! The chef himself comes out and talks to the diners, which I think is a good thing.
Food was divine! Chef was very kind and makes it a personal experience by stopping by each table to introduce himself and ask for customer feedback. Be sure to bring your wine and spirits, as it is BYOB.

My friend stumbled upon this place a few months ago and had been raving about it since. I finally understood all the hype after dining there last night. We got two orders of the island wings which were TO DIE FOR! Hands down some of the BEST wings I've ever had. For dinner we had the Rasta Pasta which was also very good. Our waitress and the hostess were very welcoming and seemed to really care about how we were enjoying our meal. Will definitely return and bring more friends!
Great food. Pleasant atmosphere. And helpful staff!
Tonight was my second time eating at this fantastic little gem in West Philly. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and Jerk Wings and both were delicious. Was I embarrassed to luck my fingers in public? Definitely not here. Chef Carl's creations are excellent! Not too spicy, just the right amount of heat and always fresh. This will be my new spot to get fat. Don't come here if you want to be skinny!
The food is very good; but since they've recently eliminated the choice on sides, I don't want to order my favorite brown stew chicken. I always got it with garlic mashed potatoes and cabbage or broccoli. Now I'm forced to take Rice and beans and pay for a side of mashed potatoes. I'm not really fond of Caribbean style beans and rice (too dry)!) so I'm forced to pass or
I really like the quaintness of the atmosphere in this restaurant. I also like the professional service. And I like the fact that the chef comes to the table and asks how was your meal? It's awesome! It is close to where I live! And I really truly love this place.
Chef Baba and Lady Bibi with Good Friends and good food at the 48th Street Grille.
Please please please eat where the food is good like the 48th Street Grille.
My family and I love this restaurant. The flavors in chef's food are amazing. I have had Jamaican food before but never this good. The chef who is also the founder came out and spoke to us. He is a very nice man. We had a great time. Our service was great. The atmosphere was friendly. The decor is really on point. We will be back soon. Thank y'all for the delicious food and service.
The ambience was great! A real nice feel to it. The waitress was polite, humble and firm. The food was delicious and piping hot when it arrived. The only bummer was that you couldn't substitute fries for sweet potato fries...whatever came with it, came with it!
Clean friendly place. This was my first visit for take out and we were very pleased with the meat pattie, oxtails, red bean soup, the cabbage was too American. I will definitely eat here again
The food was great! The Ambiance is very nice. It's always impressive to see the chef/owner come from behind the counter a greet the customers, making sure everyone is pleased.
i had the chance to meet one of the owners of this establishment today on a train ride into Philadelphia, and although i have never eaten there before, i highly recommend it to anyone considering. i’ll always support people who spread positivity, words of wisdom, and put a smile on others faces out of the kindness of their heart, and you should to. Not to mention, the food looks pretty damn good too!
Spirits Fresh Grille:
All-Natural Vegetarian Restaurant.,
The food is excellent, always more than you can eat. Soup for the day is awesome their lima bean soup is off the chain. My spirit is definitely refreshed. Russell is one of the head cooks & the serving staff is customer-friendly very delightful place. See you there in (2018)..
Good Old Mr Wilson 😎
AWESOME ATMOSPHERE. I ordered the Rasta pasta and it was amazing good and you can tell the ingredients fresh. I will be going here again, very soon.
Tue brunch was delicious, very fresh and the space is very quaint. I was disappointed that fresh juices aren’t served for Sunday brunch, but overall a great experience.
If you want so delicious authentic good quality food, this is the right place! Went there on Friday night with my boyfriend and we had jerk chicken and blackened tilapia. Both meals were very flavorful, I could tell all the ingredients were fresh. Their desserts also looked delicious, will be definitely trying when coming back. The only downside was a bit of a wait - about 30-40min for our orders, but the food didn't disappoint. Price was also fair: we paid $32 together without a tip. It could get higher with an appetizer and dessert, but the quality and portion size is worth the price.
This place is upscale in my opinion. They are a bit more pricey than an average Jamaican take out place. The quality of the food is great though! I love the curry chicken entree with a slice of cornbread.
Solid, delicious food with satisfying portions. I had the Chili glazed salmon (perfectly cooked) with mashed yams (balanced sweetness, filling ) and string beans (cool upon arrival). Left with a slice of chocolate cake that was dense, moist, choclatey and decadent.
Needs a little work on establisting some ambience (soft carribean music, a few splashes of pink, giant bowls of limes or mangoes?) and making it feel a little more intimate (bring tables close together, change lighting,).
I'll be back for that decadent chocolate cake alone. (:
Awesome place. Such a hidden gem. I highly highly recommend it.
Excellent food. Warm & friendly service. Will be back again (and again)!
My cousin and I went today for brunch. The place was clean. Nice ambiance. We received our chicken appetizer. Sweet chili chicken. It was pretty delicious. It was cooked perfectly with a nice crunch. I had the pancakes and home fries. They were very tasty. Nice and fluffy. The homefries were cooked well with all the right toppings. Onions, green and red peppers. I would defintely recommend this place. I will beo going back to try other dishes. The best part about all of this the owner/chef came out while we were on our way out, to greet and thank us for coming. That was really superb. 😃
Love this soul food place. Elegant, safe, classy, great hospitality and exceptional food! My granddaughter lives around the corner and each time I visit her I must go there?
Service was good. Food is good(I had the ribs, mashed potatoes and collard greens). They give you plenty of food.
Best Caribean food in West Philly. Everything is fresh and made to order. Chef is very nice. He comes to your table to talk and recieve feedback. A little pricey compared to other spots like this but you get what you pay for. Helpings are enough for 2 meals. Yum!!!
My first time having there food today 7/13/18 i wanted a chance to go sit inside but my boyfriend did take out i had the oxtails cabbage and rice and beans...Omg when i tell u it was so good and my niece and her boyfriend agree they said they have to come here lol..I cant wait to try other items..
Last night I went there. They offer vegetarian dishes which was awesome! Their are a bit high but the food was delicious. I ordered A disj with salmon and 1 red velvet cake and 1 carrot cake. It came to $35.00 . Yeah a bit high . But the person enjoyed the dish from them.
Delicious food, I got the sweet chili glazed salmon and it was so good that when my friend spilled my food I went back for seconds. Even though the kitchen was closed at the time, they still let us order and they were so nice about it. They understand how good their food is.
I don't get to come here often but the food is fantastic every time. Today I had the lemon herb grilled chicken sandwich and I loved it! Everyone who works here is always friendly and I feel right at home!
I got this delivered to me, and it's not the Oxtail I know and love. I'm also allergic to carrots, and while I told them and they offered alternate meals (I just decided that they probably just didn't want to take off the vegetables), I kept the Oxtail. Needless to say, the oxtail wasn't that great, and braised through with carrots (even in the rice and peas), which made no sense. The food wasn't too bad, but it's not authentic Jamaican food.
This restaurant is amazing!! Tge food tastes sooooo good u wouldn't believe it!! Great customer service and great service period!! I loved everything about this restaurant!! I gotta go there again!!!
Quaint cafe-like eatery. FRIENDLY staff,
Amenable to questions and slight menu changes. BYOB, Great food
Unique place good food been there three times
Beyond my expectations. Passed this place a many times. We had brown fish, plantains , rice and beans, cabbage, chicken stuffed with cornbread, island wings and conch fritters. Everything was very very good. And will be back. Loved our waiter Michael he was very informed about the menu. The chef Carl Lewis also comes around to chat and check on customers. Excellent...
This felt like having a personal chef at home...Bae made a reservation first time...The reception was great...the appetizer spring rolls and jerk iken quesadilla... awesome start. We brought our own wine...fresh curry chicken/rice and beans/cabbage and plantains...Chef came to check if we enjoyed the meal...That was humbling....
Delicious!! Chef is an outstanding cook & a gentleman. Enjoy!
Food good, selection very well thought out
My family and I had a great time at this restaurant. The food was authentic and delicious, including the sorrel and ginger beer. To top it off the atmosphere was also nice and refreshing. Will definitely eat here again.
Great Place and nice setup!. FYI parking was super easy (we parked on the street because we found a spot steps away from the restaurant). Not sure if there is a parking lot. We were so excited when we walked up. The outside is inviting and has a full view of the colorful restaurant. Once we ventured in. a cheerful young man named Keon was happy to greet us and gave us the option of sitting wherever we liked since at the time the restaurant only had a few customers. The restaurant seems to be dine in/take out, which is great to know because the food was amazing. Everything is made to order but it did not take long. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the way our food was plated was impressive. As we waited for our dessert (bread pudding) to arrive, the Chef (Carl) spoke with us to see how if we enjoyed our food. #NiceTouch. We will DEFINITELY be back! The menu has something for almost everyone including vegetarians, the portions are generous, our service was great and you can taste that the food was cooked by a pro. You can't go wrong. We plan to cross-review because we were just THAT happy afterward.
A treasure and a pleasure. The food is heavenly and the service is fabulous
The spot has the best wings in the world!!!! On everything! The service was amazing, the food was out of this world (do yourself a favor and order island wings). They also have an amazing brunch menu. Also the atmosphere is hella chill and it's so beautiful.
I cannot praise this restaurant enough. Very great food and service. The collard greens and the veggie curry dish was on point. The owner even came out and greeted us.
Fine location for jamaican food. Great place to relax, people watch, eat good food or all the above. Certainly worth a return visit.
Food was so delicious! I ordered the vegetable curry (next time I will make it spicy), the collard greens (Soooooooo goood!!!!) and plantains (you have to at Caribbean spot). The service was excellent, our waiter was such a sweetie, the hostess was personable, and the chef even came by. I left full and satisfied. Next time I’m getting conch (yes, they have it!) and a dessert. Five stars, reasonable prices, and great portions.
Food was delicious! Place is clean.
Staff was very nice. I had crab cake sandwich with sweet potato fries and salad.
Food was great...Service was AMAZING! The chef came to the table to greet us. I had a good experience and would recommend this place to others. I love supporting black owned businesses❤️
We arrived and was seated immediately. We order our food and it arrived very fast. Hot and delicious! Great customer service too. Chef Carl takes time to visit each table. I highly recommend 48St. Grille.
Nice place for quality Jamaican food. Cool place to meet and catch up with coworkers. Definitely worth a return visit. Kinda of like a restaurant in Los Angeles I loved to visit.
I ordered the stew chicken, it came with rice and beans and cabbage. It was delicious. My husband ordered the oxtails with the same sides he really enjoyed his meal. We also got a side of mashed sweet potatoes and baked mac. The sweet potatoes were good but the mac and cheese was airy and you couldn't taste cheese in it. But overall everything had good flavors and I would definitely visit again
Awesomely delicious Jamaican cuisine! Superb service from the hostess and server. I would highly recommend this place.
My friend and I ate here for Black Restaurant Week. We truly enjoyed ourselves.
I ate here once with a co-worker, and again with other co-workers during Black Restaurant Week. Good food. Pleasant atmosphere. I will definitely eat there again.
Initially, I had a negative experience at 48th Street Grille but after speaking to the manager, Carlene, I was pleased with the resolution. Carlene was empathic, professional, and most of all, ensured the customer's satisfaction. Thank you Carlene for your professionalism, it was most appreciated after the experience.
Last time i visited here with friends to have some Delicious food and we were really satisfied with the services received from the restaurant. The place was very colorful with amazing infrastructure also the staff was very friendly. If i talk about the price was also Decent. Finally as per my experience i would like to recommend this place.
Service was amazing! The owner and chef wven came out to greet everyone in the restaurant and blessed us. Food was so delicious and wonderfully portioned for leftovers. I'll be back!!!
The food was delicious and the portion sizes were just right, to slightly larger than expected. We did not leave hungry. The chief came out and welcomed us and talked to is about the food. Great new restaurant that is definitely worth checking out.
will visit again. food seemed like it was cooked on the spot, not sure though cos it took forever. so if you are extremely hungry be prepared to wait a while but food is great. cool reception. everything cooked right
Food is very good. Service is great. Chef comes out and greet each guess. Great relaxed atmosphere.
Delicious, tasty, and plentiful! The staff is very pleasant. The food is as good as the pictures look. It is a simple spot with bold flavors and seasonings! You can thank me later. Enjoy!!
Food was very tasty. Chef came out and introduced himself. Restaurant was clean and nicely decorated! I’ll be back.
The food is phenomenal, the staff, friendly. What else do you want? The vibe is chill. Great date night spot
Went here w/ a friend for a late Sunday brunch. Small spot, but very cute. The hostess was awesome! Its a BYO beer/wine/liquor and the hostess politely directed me to 2 nearby beer distributor and wine and spirits store (about a 10 min walk away). The service was good and the food was pretty good also. Lots of options on the brunch menu, but I think I'd like to try this spot for dinner.
